This is what we did for our family too, lost my dad in 2019 and we felt very empty. My mum especially found no purpose to wake up as she was my dad's carer as well. We got a little Shih Tzu puppy towards the end of the year and he made us all so much happier. Doesn't replace the emptiness of dad being gone but our little Jack saved us all from a very dark time.
So sad for this lady's loss of her husband. So happy she has found a wonderful little companion dog. I am sure her husband would approve. It's a wonderful match.

Does Bruce go home with Janet ?
He does, but according to the series’ website, Bruce doesn’t last long with the family and is returned.
She experienced another close bereavement and wasn't in a state where she could continue to care for Bruce, so he was rehomed.
