  • Hey guys, in today's video I am comparing the 2 Mopar Wagons, the Dodge Magnum which was available in North America, and the Chrysler 300C Touring, which was available overseas in Europe, Australia, and other places. This video goes in-depth on the specs, history, and cancellation of both wagons. They were unique, fun, and powerful, but unfortunately by 2010, they were both cancelled. Which wagon do you think was better?

Quick note, the 300 touring wagons were built in Austria and in fact very successful in Germany. I recall seeing a lot of the diesel versions as German drivers thought them to be a budget version of the e class. They got fairly heavy use in the taxi industry as well. The U.K. is a very poor reflection of the European car market, as tge French and German markets are much larger in size and more accepting of large diesel powered station wagons. From personal experience, the mag steyr cars suffer a lot of similar electronic and build quality problems as their US equivalents, like blend doors, heater switch failures, ecm and window switches going out early, and the infamous 2.7 v6 sludge issue

I love my 300C Touring CRD! It's reliable, quick, has lots of room, is decent on diesel and has road presence like no other for the money. Definitely prefer the 300 nose to the magnum but that's obviously a matter of taste. Over here in the Netherlands they're incredibly rare (especially the wagon) and I think I've seen about 3 or 4 others on the road in the past year.

Despite the 300 marketed as a full size with 120" wheelbase, the Magnum/300 wagon only had 71.6 cubic feet cargo volume and 133.1 cubic feet interior volume, in the EPA midsize wagon class and barely larger than a K-car and smaller than a late 70s Aspen.

Just hear me out, now I understand from a business standpoint why Chrysler chooses time and time again to make nearly all of their Dodge/Chrysler vehicles run on the same platform (makes parts cheaper to mass produce and use on multiple vehicles) but honestly. What reason do you give people to buy certain cars if there’s like no incentive other than a nameplate? Like the Charger and 300 have been the same god damn car since they started! Arguably the furthest they’ve been apart since production in 2005 is the current gen models, and that can pretty much all be attributed to the fact that they give no more shits about even bothering with the 300 at all. Like why would I pay $5k-6k more for a 300 over a Charger when they look the same. Perform the same and all the features can be shared between the two! I have a 2018 Chrysler and when I order Mopar parts I just say I have a Charger because it doesn’t even matter. Js. Rant over.

    • @JB-xp8xl
      @JB-xp8xl 4 года назад

300's are a little more upscale with options Magnum and Charger couldn't get, such as a light in the glove box, that's why you pay more for it.

One thing I really loved about my Magnum is that it was AWD. Those are hard to find and useful as hell in bad road conditions. Thankfully it was an RT. So it had a little punch too. I was an idiot to let that thing go.

Yeah people do it over here (Magnum to 30C) if you buy the 300c bumpers and other parts. You can take it all the way to the interior too

Why Chrysler didn't sell the wagon version in North America is a mystery to me. Whoever was marketing for Chrysler needed a good boot in the ass. No wonder they're in trouble. They need to hire someone who knows what they're doing.

i have 300c wagon awd, 5.7, if remove rear seats, you can put in easly 2mtb,5 big suitcases, 1additional lpg tank with 90 litres to extend range to 600km at 200+km/h, what it can easly keep no matter of highway uphill

1:31 almost all tourings right hand drive ? Where did you get this info from ... there are endles tons of these in Europe with left hand drive. Especially in Germany.
5:44 no you didnt get the Srt wheels. You got the SRT design wheels (they are different)
11:30 the 300c 3.5 got only the 4 speed while magnum got 4 And 5sp ? Thats non-sence. Of course the 3.5 had 5 speed. Every single 3.5awd touring was 5speed. Only the old sedan rwd 3.5 had the stupid 4 speed auto ...
Anyway. Nice video, keep up the good videos about these cars. I wish i could edit videos i would do some content with 300c’s in EU. I have three of those. By the way wagon we say KOMBI in europe. I have two kombis 2009 crd white And 2005 hemi awd black. Plus 04 sedan hemi rwd. But im far from knowing How editing videos works.
I love those cars But they’re Also pain in the ass.

Endless tonnes ?? I wouldn't say that - surely it was sold with LHD, but it is still a niche car. Passat, Golf, A4 - these are in tonnes in DE.

If they would’ve offered a manual transmission, instead of the 8+ different engine options, these cars would still be on the market today. The 300c without any badges would look exactly like a Benz wagon until you opened the door and look at the cheap interior. I would actually buy a 5.7l magnum if the opportunity presented itself.

The smartest thing car manufacturers have done is to take a station wagon, add 4WD and call it an SUV. That way you can suck in some of the high performance crowd. It makes no sense to put hemis in station wagons.

Question; Does Chrysler make crappy engines and transmissions overseas like the do here in the US? They are not exactly known for reliability up here but maybe they make better cars in Australia and Europe because it’s a different company manufacturing their vehicles. Maybe! lol

They don't make transmissions anymore I think ZF makes the majority not their transmissions and what engine do they currently make that is crappy?

My EU 300c is doing great after 330.000 kilometers on the clock. Shifts and drives perfectly. Now, I do have the diesel so the engine is Mercedes, and I think the transmission might be too?

    • @mattcrooke8321

Both the engine and transmission are Mercedes made in pretty much all of the Euro cars, the diesel ones anyway. The auto box is the Mercedes 5g tronic.

idk how those two brands are still a thing, garbage quality and reliability for decades now , ancient tech, horrible warranty/service , symbolic resale value, and definitely not known to be drivers cars, there is no pros to owning anything made by them
