I think next time after I put it in the pan I'll toss some blueberries on top. I like what someone said about using pumpkin puree and wonder how that with mashed banana and applesauce would all taste together. Brilliant recipe - thank you!!

Ok...sooooo I made the sponge cake as described AND added Ghost Whey Cinnabon Powder mixed with greek yorgut as a thick layer of icing on the cake. Thank me later.

I didn't expect it to come out so good. Tastes like mocha cake. I'll try topping it with a ganache next time
Just made this for my family and I couldn’t complain. Can’t believe that it was under 200 calories for the entire loaf (Didn’t have a 9x9 pan so I used a bread pan). Also, I think the candy that reminded you of this were peeps. Keep on coming with these anabolic recipes!
@@RahulKamatAw, I got it wrong! I was going to guess Twinkies just because it looks more like cake to me than marshmallow. But Peeps makes sense if it reminds you of marshmallow.
Applesauce is really nice in old fashioned overnight oats. Use about 50-50 applesauce and Greek yogurt, stir it into your dry whole rolled oats. You can add dried cranberries, raisins, cinnamon, banana chips, vanilla, peanut butter, honey, seeds, nuts, any and all in different combinations to make it your taste. Cover and refrigerate. The yogurt makes this extremely long lasting in the fridge. Makes a great breakfast or snack, hot or cold. It tastes....like cookie dough. Not extremely low calorie like your cake here but it's nutrient dense calories and filling, cheap and easy. If you wanted to make this more dessert like shape into bars or truffles, drizzle with caramel, and dip them in chocolate. I have also used unflavored gelatin to make jello out of caffeine drink mixes and or sugar free Gatorade. It's a perfect summer treat. More gelatin...more rubbery. It depends if you want it more like finger jello or eat with a spoon (and how much protein do you want per serving? This is a fun way to get your electrolytes, a little energy, and extra protein. You might also be able to add your supplement powder like all that shit people put in smoothies?
Oh Wow! My grandmother used to make coffew jello! We loved it in the sumnertime. I never knew exactly how she made it but I will be making it now! I miss her so much its nice to think of those summers!
@@longlongshadows392 you can have fun with that idea and I hope it does bring back memories of Granny...so sorry for your loss! You do want to bloom your gelatin with cold liquid so use a robust cold brew. Blooming is when you saturate the gelatin first...stir it in and it will look like...couscous or mashed potatoes maybe? Bumpy, semi translucent. THEN add hot coffee to dissolve the gelatin until it disappears and the mixture looks like plain coffee. Pour into your mold. If you wanna do sumpin fancy! Use a pretty Bundt pan or decorative silicone mold and add some layers. Make a small batch plain and pour it in the pan or dishes to set. When it's stable enough, make a batch of flavored creamer coffee jello and pour on top. Repeat for as many layers as you want and top with whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa powder or cinnamon. Wiggly Jiggly Starbucks dupe!
I like to eat high volume - I add an equal ratio of water to the apple sauce to give it more. Then I make a frosting with cinnamon, Greek yogurt, and zero sugar syrup. Absolutely delicious and filling with great macros. Thanks Rahul!!! (I also just use a blender to mix hands free in half the time)

Haha. This recipe goes around the darker corners of youtube for quite a few years now. I found it named as "apple marshmallows" and that's what describes it better than "cake" imho. It's honestly pretty good. Btw: This works great with sugar free jams, too.
@@RahulKamat I made it with homemade sugar free strawberry jam and it was really nice. I even used this as a layer in a multilayered cake. It sounds like one of those super alternative calories saving recipes but it really isn't.
@@sarahbartlett9870 In my recipe I used 250g of jam (strawberry, berry mix, apricot ... made with pectin and erythritol), 5g vanilla paste, liquid sweetener to taste (it needs extra sweetener because with that much volume the "marshmallow" might taste bland) and 20g powdered gelatine. Put everything in a pot and heat it on low-medium heat until the gelatine is just molten. Don't let it get too hot. Doesn't take much heat to melt gelatine. Put everything in a bowl and mix for 10 minutes (more or less) until triple the volume and it is thick and fluffy. Transfer to a bowl lined with plastic wrap and chil for a few hours or until set. That method worked for me with apple sauce and different sugar free jams.
This is actually one of the most interesting recipes I've seen for the past years. I hope I can get ahold of those gelatine packages from my local supermarket. Thank you my dude. Also, you put a smile on my face.
Very interesting recipe. Just keep in mind that gelatin is quite a poor source of protein as it contains very few amino acids so it's not very beneficial for muscle growth. It however has other health benefits, especially for your skin and joints.
I can see adding a cherry flavoring as well as the vanilla, sometimes, just to switch things up a little. Anything that would get along well with the flavor of the applesauce.
you can also make 0 calorie marshmallows out of gelatin powder and artificial sweetener. using essentially the same method minus the apple sauce. those cakes are apple sauce marshmallow cakes basically
Oh man I'm definitely gonna try this out. I've been craving cake since I found out I'm gluten intolerant and can't have it. But I live with a vegetarian, so I think I'm gonna try to use Agar instead of gelatin and see if it turns out the same.
Hey you should definitely update us on how that went with the agar! I was gonna do the same because my gf is vegan and would probably enjoy this. I'll try on my own but was just curious what results you got.
Gelatin is a super incomplete "protein". It has a lot of aminoacids but the distribution is really bad so don't think it's the same 16 grams of protein as if you ate eggs or cheese.
You’re right, it lacks the complete amino acid profile (lucine) as chicken/whey/eggs, but as long as you eat enough protein from a variety of sources you should be good! Plus gelatin is great for hair/skin/nails!
Let gelatin sit in applesauce for 10 minutes 1 1/2 cups of apple sauce 1/2 cup of sweetner 3 30 sec intervals mix every interval (so doesn't burn also add vanilla extract, extra whipping if needed!)
FYI guys I tried it with agar agar, It didn't work, then tried to add gelatin sheets because I didn't have the powdered gelatin, and It pretty much worked! So if you only have gelatin sheets, it should work as It did for me

Just made this in like 20 minutes during lunch while my food was cooking. Threw it in the fridge just now, can’t wait. I only have a 7x7 glass pan, so mine is going to be extra thick so I’ll just let it sit in there at least a few hours to make sure it’s all firmed up. Just an FYI: This is just an alternative recipe for Pastila. Its a type of fruit confection thats been around since the 1500's. This is also very similar to confection called Zefir which is nearly identical to Pastila. Zefir is more marshmallow in consistency, and Pastila is more cake like. The only difference in this recipe and the actual recipes is this one didnt include an egg white. This also did technically swap sugar for an artificial sweetener but its still being sweetened either way. Also im sure you could make this actually vegan by just using pectin or agar instead of gelatin. All three are options in Pastila and Zefir so Im sure any would work for this too.

So this is basically: 2 cups apple sausce 2 packets (14 grams) of gelatin (Oprional) vanilla extract, sugar or sugar substitute Mix at room temperature. Let set for 10 or until it falls in clumps. Heat in microwave in 30 second increments for 1½ min, stirring in between. Grab electric mixer (im serious, its gonna be a workout-amd not the fun kind- if you even try to hand mix) and mix for 15 minutes or until very frothy and airated. Add the vanilla and extra sweetner, as well as food coloring for that traditional sponge cake look, and beat for another two minutes. In a 9x9 pan put cling film on the bottom and covering the interior sides of the pan. Pour in batter. Let set in fridge for at least one hour or until solidified. He reccomends probably more time. Cut into squares and eat.

Years ago, a talk show segment featured the story of a little dog named Mugsy who had been hit by a car and was presumed dead by his owners. His grieving family buried him in a corner of their yard. But the next morning at 5:30, there was scratching at their back door.
Much to the family’s surprise, it was their beloved Mugsy. Apparently, he wasn’t dead after all. The persistent pup dug himself out of his grave.
That is what unconfessed sin is like. We may think we’ve buried it, but it will be back. There is only one way to get rid of our sin, and it’s at the cross of Jesus Christ. We can’t cover it. We can’t hide it. And we can’t run from it. It will stay with us until we confess it.
After his sin of adultery and murder, David eventually admitted to God that he had sinned. Later he wrote about it in Psalm 32: “When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long” (verse 3)
David continued, “Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, ‘I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.’ And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone” (verse 5)
He didn’t try to blame someone else for his sin. He didn’t try to hide it at this point. Rather, David called it what it was, and he dealt with it in a straightforward way.
We always want to blame others for our sin and say that it isn’t our fault.
Do you need to own up to something you’ve done? Or, are you playing the blame game? There must come a point in your life when you say, “I’ve sinned. I’ve committed this iniquity. The problem is me.” And that is when things will change for you.

Ok...sooooo I made the sponge cake as described AND added Ghost Whey Cinnabon Powder mixed with greek yorgut as a thick layer of icing on the cake. Thank me later.
I've tried making it. I replaced the applesauce with chayote puree as a low-carbohydrate substitute instead of applesauce. Mixed it with a pinch of coffee and 2tbsp of coconut cream. 2packs gelatine.
That sounds awesome! Coffee jello! I need some of that
Haha. This recipe goes around the darker corners of youtube for quite a few years now. I found it named as "apple marshmallows" and that's what describes it better than "cake" imho. It's honestly pretty good.
Btw: This works great with sugar free jams, too.
Interesting. So sf jam instead of applesauce? Woah I wanna try that
Would you use the same quantity of jam and gelatin as in this recipe ?

For sure, just get your protein from a variety of sources to get a well rounded amino acid profile
hmm add amino acid powder ;D
This works with guavas as well. I tried it and it was delicious. 🎉
Oooh nice!
I can see adding a cherry flavoring as well as the vanilla, sometimes, just to switch things up a little. Anything that would get along well with the flavor of the applesauce.
Great idea, love the creativity!
you can also make 0 calorie marshmallows out of gelatin powder and artificial sweetener. using essentially the same method minus the apple sauce. those cakes are apple sauce marshmallow cakes basically
Oh man I'm definitely gonna try this out. I've been craving cake since I found out I'm gluten intolerant and can't have it. But I live with a vegetarian, so I think I'm gonna try to use Agar instead of gelatin and see if it turns out the same.
Hope you enjoy this! Let me know if agar agar works, I’ve never used it before
Hey you should definitely update us on how that went with the agar! I was gonna do the same because my gf is vegan and would probably enjoy this. I'll try on my own but was just curious what results you got.
If you live near a Patel Brothers market or other Indian market, they often have desserts that are vegan.
Gelatin is a super incomplete "protein". It has a lot of aminoacids but the distribution is really bad so don't think it's the same 16 grams of protein as if you ate eggs or cheese.
Agreed. It is good for skin health though.
Agreed, same thing with like pork rinds and collagen but it's good to include
You’re right, it lacks the complete amino acid profile (lucine) as chicken/whey/eggs, but as long as you eat enough protein from a variety of sources you should be good! Plus gelatin is great for hair/skin/nails!
Let gelatin sit in applesauce for 10 minutes
1 1/2 cups of apple sauce
1/2 cup of sweetner
3 30 sec intervals mix every interval (so doesn't burn also add vanilla extract, extra whipping if needed!)
I made it today and it's delicious. These are exactly the kind of food hacks I was looking for. Thx dude
I got you!
How are you getting to your protein number?
A pack of gelatin is 2g, 3/4 cup of apple sauce is less than .4g. I count less than 4.4g for the cake.
FYI guys I tried it with agar agar, It didn't work, then tried to add gelatin sheets because I didn't have the powdered gelatin, and It pretty much worked! So if you only have gelatin sheets, it should work as It did for me
Wasn't a fan of apple sauce as a kid either. Obviously that's changed given it's great properties in baking!

Just an FYI:
This is just an alternative recipe for Pastila.
Pastila is made with egg whites, sugar, and baked in the oven. It's not even remotely similar.

It made me so happy to see somebody drinking sugar free syrup from the bottle… I don’t know if it was purely comedic but I get flack for this and I genuinely love it lmfao
The first ingredient is water and I wanna stay hydrated so…
So this is basically:
2 cups apple sausce
2 packets (14 grams) of gelatin
(Oprional) vanilla extract, sugar or sugar substitute
Mix at room temperature.
