That footwork was the great Mama Cass Elliot. My favorite by her, solo is Dream a Little Dream. You get to hear her voice... beautiful... she dances when she sings... and such an amazing artist! Big fan of Janice Joplin, who reciprocated the feeling.
I so loved Asia's reaction to Mama Cass ❤❤❤
Quick FYI... about the song... its about waking up with his love Monday morning and when he came home from work she split... Monday you just can't trust that day!
That’s Mama Cass with the groovy moves! She was an amazing vocalist solo as well. She also had the grooviest parties at her house in the late ‘60’s!
The Mama’s & Papa’s were awesome! Their song “Creeque Alley” tells hiw they formed the group. Mama Cass was incredible, beautiful harmonies & lyrics by John Phillips. Denny Doherty’s vocals! Play California Dreamin & I saw her again last night. Amazing!
Cass "mama Cass" Elliott was a beautiful soul who was the beating heart of the la scene , you'll have to travel far to hear anyone speak a bad word about her , her death at 27 was a tragic blow . ❤️
Yes I totally agree her death was so tragic, but I believe she was 32 years old when she died.
I heard she choked while laying in her bed. Soo sad. So talented.
@@leighsaldivar4439 heart attack
IVE NEVER heard anyone have a bad word about her
Great song from my youth! They have a song "Creeque Alley" that somewhat tells a story about their musical history.
60's guys!
EVERYONE was a singer or in a band.
There were no phones, internet and the telly was crap,so we all soaked up great music and passed it on,we were always out.
Parties galore and good times aplenty.
Damn, but i miss those wonderful days.
If you haven’t heard “The 5th Dimension”you must. Marilyn Maccoo had a beautiful voice. Criminally forgotten.
Yes!
+1 Few realise that Whitney's Saving All My Love For You was originally recorded by Marilyn McCoo
And easy on the eyes...
You absolutely need to watch Cass Elliot sing, DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME. It showcases her in the spotlight she richly deserves. Only John, the guitarist, and Michelle, the blonde, were married. Cass had an unrequited crush on Denny the lead singer. He just didn't share the same feelings. It broke her heart.
I was an infant in 1966, but this song was played often on the radio throughout the '70s. Terrific song.
known as the "cass shuffle"... to see her really get down, watch their version of "dancing in the streets"....
Mama Cass is doing the footwork. I Saw Her Again Last Night is one of my favorites of theirs. The other female, Michelle Phillips, was in a tv show in the 80s Knots Landing.
The late, great Denny Doherty on lead vocals here. Excellent voice talent....
Great song!!! Mama Cass had the best voice of them all. She's the one with the footwork.
Creeque Alley will tell you exactly how they met, how they formed and where they’re from. Great song! “No ones getting fat but Mama Cass”
Their daughter, and the daughter of one of the Beach Boys formed a group called Wilson Phillips that had some hits in the 80's
Good observation! 😃
Chynna Phillips, Carnie Wilson + Wendy Wilson = 1 daughter of Mama Michelle + Papa John + 2 daughters of The Beach Boys' Dennis Wilson.
More details in my Family Tree response.
BJ Bust me up! Loved your reaction to them. Cass Elliot was an all around great singer and performer. You might want to check out a documentary called Laurel Canyon about how in the 60's everyone back in the day would congregate at Joni Mitchells house and where Cass Elliot introduced many artists to each other and they formed groups. It also covers the times and many artists, gives some references to the times and the artists of the day. As always stay safe and much love to you both!
It’s so good that people still pay attention and groove with the classics ♥️ thank you
All these youngsters get to start their lives with all this great music!
All of us that grew up with all of the great music of the 60's & 70's? We were so spoiled, (even though we didn't know it at that time, right?) Look what the younger generations have today? I mean seriously, you can hardly call any of this garbage today, music, can ya?. Anything where you use other peoples music as the foundation for your own, uses a digital Drum Machine, uses Auto Tune and can be put together in your fucking Car. will never be Archived nor Cherished as "Music." God, it was good to be spoiled! Can I get an "Amen?" Keep Smiling...
Mama Cass Elliot… classic, Dream A Little Dream is one her most lovely renditions.
Lol! I’ve always noticed that little jig Mama Cass does with her feet, ur the first person I’ve ever heard that noticed it too! Please learn it then show us! Thank you peace ✌️
The song Creeque Alley actually is how they got big. It refers to several of the other bands that were also local bands that they hung out with and got big, like the Byrds, the Lovin Spoonful, and Barry McGuire.
I think that little step Mama Cass was doing you commented on was a gentle version of the “mashed potato” a late 50s/early 60s dance I’ve never been able to master 😅😅
I never did master the mashed potato. The twist was easy though.
@@woodysthoughts4032 it looks so easy but it’s hard!!
HAHA flashback "...Do the Mashed Potato" Classic!
They had such a unique and pure simple sound. Their songs are so timeless and so easy on the ears. Their voices and harmonies were amazing. Two powerful songs by them: California Dreaming, and Dream a Little Dream.
One of their kids teamed up with a girl of one of the Beach Boys and formed Wilson Phillips in the late 80s/early 90s
You might like The Mamas and The Papas - Creeque Alley (1967).
John Phillips was in a group called The Journeymen and his marriage was breaking up when he met Michelle who was almost a decade younger than him. They became involved and once he was divorced they married and decided to form a group themselves. They met Denny Doherty in one of the many clubs in Greenwich Village where he was performing and asked him to join them. He was friends with Cass Elliot, she had been a member of his former group The Mugwamps, and advocated for them to recruit her into the group though John Phillips wasn't sure if she would fit at first. Obviously he eventually came around.
Other songs from them-Dedicated to the One I Love and I Saw Her Again are very good. Eventually Cass went out on her own, Make Your Own Kind of Music was her biggest hit. She also did a wonderful duet with John Denver-Leaving on a Jet Plane.
you left out the part where Cass had a pipe drop on her head in one of the clubs and she suddenly was able to hit a note that John wanted her to hit that she couldnt before and thats what got her in the band. otherwise a good synopsis for the Behind The Music video on the band.
Funny how nobody mentions Makenzie Phillips relationship with her father...
@@dawnmarieallenkent2495 I'm guessing because no one really knows about it and to be fair both her mother and sister deny it occurring even though they bury him in other areas of being a parent. I myself don't know where I stand on the claim.
Their song "Creequee Alley" tells the story of how they formed. The way they chose their name was they were watching a tv show about bikers, or the Hell's Angels and the men called their women Mama, The 2 women in the group declared they were Mama's and so the guys decided they must be Papa's at least according to the show Biography when they asked Michelle Phillips about it
The foot work was done by the late great Cass Elliot...
Cass Elliot and Denny Dougherty were in a band called the Mugwumps and joined with the couple John and Michelle Phillips to form the Mamas and the Papas.
Famous reaction: Mama Cass, riding this big hit Monday, Monday as well as California Dreaming goes to the Monterey Pop Festival and is blindsided by an unknown Janis Joplin singing Ball and Chain. "Wow"
The harmonies are off the hook, but that lead vocal by Dennis Doherty is buttah.
Remember: This is more than half a century ago! 55 years to be exact. Sadly, only Michelle, the slim blonde, is still kicking today.
Creeque song is basically their story of how they came to form the group. Check it out 🎶🎸😊
It's a pretty crazy story how they formed.theres an excellent "behind the music " on RUclips video. Tells all
The ultimate Monday song is by The Boomtown Rats - I don't like Mondays. Classic track if you get a chance to check out this song, please do :)
R.I.P Mama Cass she was definitely one of a kind. R.I.P Papa John Phillips and Papa Denny as well can't forget those two as well
Mama Cass is grooving some old school gogo dancing.
Your reactions give life! Y'all are so genuine!
Great reaction, you two! Your assignment for tomorrow is "Ruby Tuesday" by The Rolling Stones!!!!!!! Congrats on 101K!!!
"Two left feet..." Who's for these two reacting to "First In Show" now? LOL!
The word "..mon" in Latin means "hill". So Mondays are up hill all day. Just be glad there is only one Monday in the week.
Check out their song "Creque Alley" and "I Saw Her Again"
They called Mama Carr's foot work the Mama Cass Shuffle. But my Mama called it the mashed potato. Lol. It was a dance from the 50's.
Asia was saying she wondered how they came together as a group...they have a song called 'Creeque Alley' that telles the story. I would love to see your guys' reacion to it!
You are both awesome!!
Mama Cass was a great singer back in the day. Sadly she passed way too soon.
If y’all get around to reacting to Janis Joplin’s “Ball and Chain” (live at Monterrey Pop), you will see Mama Cass sitting in the audience and her reaction is priceless.
🤣Asia and Bj. Remember tho', Karen Carpenter said: "Rainy days "AND", MONDAYS ! 😂
Really funny you ask about their formation and there is actually a song detailing it. "Creeque Alley"
Creeque Alley is a song that tells their story. A great song. Give it a listen.
There's a documentary on the history of the mama's & the papa's ! It wonderful
John Phillips, the guy on the guitar, was the song writer and married to Michelle, the skinny blonde. The gal with the footwork was Cass Eliot aka- "Mama Cass" (check out "Dream a Little Dream of Me"). The shorter guy is Denny. Funnily enough, John wrote this song but the other Mamas and Papas didn't like it because they didn't know what it meant. It turned out to be one of their biggest hits. Also check out "Creque Alley", a fun song about how The Mamas and The Papas came to be.
Love this song and this band, one of the best vocal groups in musical history.
And I'm watching this on a Monday, though it's a holiday and I've been drinking beer since this morning, so it's better than average. 👍😉🍺
Tomorrow I'll be singing 🎵"Nothing matters but the weekend, from a Tuesday point-of-view"🎶
The tall guy and the blonde girl were married. Mama Cass had a big crush on the lead singer!
"I don't care for fancy music if your feet can't shuffle around." - Ronnie Van Zant
"Perfect" can't believe this isn't the number one comment (but only if you know who Ronnie Van Zant was) Simple Man, my favirote song of all time!
Mondays are my only day off so I LOVE Mondays! But Tuesdays...Blech! LOL
If I remember correctly, that little dance she was doing was called the Frug in the sixties.
If you want to know how they got together, listen to “Creeque Alley” preferably with the lyrics. It's their story.
Mama Cass Elliott is doin a form of the 'Mashed Potato'. She was really the voice in the Mamas & Papas that went on & had the most success after the group broke. She had a TV show of her own but tragically she died in the early 70s. Check her 'Make Your Own Kind of Music'.
The goddess Mama Cass rocking the footwork 🙌🏼
This is the original studio recording. You can hear the symphony instruments in the background. Common for these 60's-70's groups to lip-sync to their original recordings on these tv shows. I have been reading a lot of references to Dream A Little Dream Of Me. I can't agree more!!! It's all Mama Cass! You haven't had a chance to hear her beautiful voice in full. This should be your next Mama's and Papa's song!
You can feel the soul of the 1960s in their music.
Love your reactions. You both have a great sense of humor.
They started out as the Scooby Doo cartoon but then formed a band! -Terry
Little Walter, Howling wolf, Willy Dickson, Robert Cray, Bonnie rait Some real good blues artist!! Oh, Me love me Mamas and papas No cap👀👀👀👀
Cass could sing and move her feet. I love her.
Hahhaha the mama cass shuffle!
Members were in rival San Francisco bands. Eventually, the bands broke up. The 4 singers moved to LA + formed M+ P.
Written by the late John Philips.
Great song! 😃
RIP John, Denny Doherty + Cass Elliott.
Family tree.
Michelle is the Mama + John is the Papa to actress Mackenzie (1 Day at a Time) + singer/writer Chynna.
Billy Baldwin, youngest brother of Alec, married Chynna. Hayley, daughter of Alec is married to Justin Bieber 🇨🇦. By way of marriage, Justin is a US citizen , yet he hds his citizenship to Canada.
Musical family tree. Chynna is the main singer of Wilson Phillips. Carnie + younger sister Wendy are daughters of Brian Wilson, lead singer + main writer of The Beach Boys.
Suggested WP video: You're in Love.
John Phillips, the main songwriter of the group, was married to Michelle. Denny Doherty did the lead vocals and Cass Elliott was doing that fine footwork and has a powerful singing voice herself. Check out their song "Words of Love", sung by Cass and you'll be amazed. Asia, their song "Creeque Alley" tells the story of how they got together. Groovy tune as well.
Sweet sounds of the 60s!
❤🔥
This is from the 60's and like this band I hardly ever work on a Monday, so nothing better than waking Monday morning and not having to get up early ;-)
Mama Cass Elliot .. R.I.P. I started loving her at 14 years old and I still do
Mama Cass Elliot is the lady with the dancing feet. She is probably the best singer of the bunch. She solos on the song Dream a Little Dream of Me.
Y'all need to check out Wilson Phillips. Girl Trio two daughters (Carnie and Wendy) of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and Chynna Phillips daughter of John (tall skinny) and Michelle (petite blonde)Wilson.
Mama Cass' feet were always moving. She is the best
Love the Mamas and the Papas! Hope you check out Cass Elliott singing solo-Dream a Little Dream of Me-it's really beautiful!
Well, now you should do Tuesday Afternoon by the Moody Blues.
At 3:32 she lifts Mama Cass lifts her right foot and holds it there like a flamingo .😊
Skinny girl on the left was literally a teenage runaway to join the group, not long before this recording, if I recall correctly.
I remember my sister doing the same footwork as Mama Cass 😂💋
An oldie but a goodie!
One of my all time favorites
Mama Cass with that footwork though.. 🤩 I bet she had the Grooviest parties at her house in the 60s for real.. such a tragedy we lost her so early at the age of 31 to heart failure in her sleep.. RIP Mama 💖
How they met you have to listen to the song Creeque Alley and it will tell you how they got together.
Please do "Creeque Alley" next. It's cool.
they have a song that actually tells you their story, around how they got started called, " Creeque Alley " its a cool song, there was a bit of hanky panky going on in the ranks between
Michelle Phillips and Denny Doherty . . .
Mama Cass (dancer) sings with John Denver - Leaving on a Jet Plane
Denny Doherty was awesome, had a fantastic voice.
I hear these lyrics in my head every monday going to work, and it aint no fun
I start dreading Monday on Saturday afternoon 🤣
Mama Cass Elliott moves when she sings
I used to work four 10 hour days with Mondays off so I used to love Mondays 😂😂
We feelin' it also. But you guys making it better...regardless of Monday
Mama Cass had some swag!
...and a ton of LSD
Mama cass was in one of Janis Joplins videos, she was in the front row with the sunglasses on!
Hi Asia and BJ.
Firstly, love your video reaction channel. Always happy and positive.
The only suggestion I would say is when you react to a video of a band that you have not heard of before such as The Mamas and the Papas, as it’s quite an interesting story. Other than that, love you guys and your channel.
Now you can listen to Manic Monday by the Bangles!
You haven
t heard Karen Carpenter from the Carpenters sing ... It's a treat.
*The Office (Looks Like Somebody Has A Case Of The Monday's)*
Only one couple was married. The tallest guy and the blonde lady was married, John and Michelle. The other two were not involved, even though Cass liked Denny, but he only liked her as a friend. Eventually she did marry a different gentleman. BTW Young people called each other by the slang of Mama's and Papas in the day.
A fun song about hating Mondays is: The Bangles - Manic Monday
he is a great singer. women are too.
You guys are so great, I just LOVE Mondays :) Keep up the great Reactions. Actually you should check out " Rainy Days and Mondays" by the Carpenters. She has one of the most beautiful voices ever. In the top 10 for sure. She also played the drums when they performed.
oh! the Mamas and Papas . amazing
Have you guys heard of Gladys Night and the Pips . . . " Midnight Train To Georgia " awesome song from 1973
