Just think about how pop music like this influenced a whole generation of kids. I'm happy and proud to say that I was one of them.
Me too.
I was ten when this song came out. There were alot of songs about unity and acceptance back then.
The 60's and 70's were a great time to come of age. I wouldn't trade those times/mwmories for the World.
@@rogerdodger6025yep
Me too!
We are not born with hatred in our hearts, we learn it. It is taught to us by those who learned it before us.
It had to start somewhere
Unfortunately, that is the truth. I almost wish sometimes that the generation could disappear and just let children grow up free from this garbage.
You've got to be carefully taught.
A timeless message from 50 years ago, far too easily and sadly forgotten. Thank you two for your reaction and for exposing this song to some new fans!!
I remember the Coke ad, holding hands around the world, every type of person singing “I want to buy the world a Coke”. We tried, some of us really tried. btw - that’s fan art, not from the band.
I love you Asia And Bj And i dont even know you ,, Your real .Thats Fantastic . Love your videos
More like over 65 years ago. The song was written as a response to the US Supreme Court ruling in the mid 1950s enforcing integration in the deep south in the US. The first recording of the song was by Sammy Davis, Jr.
Meanwhile the "liberal/progressive" (neomarxists), are pushing Critical Race Theory - a white baby is evil - Disgusting.
This song came out in the early 70's. I was in my early teens. It was great then, and yes it should be played again after all these years. One love!!
You want to hear "Eli's Coming", "Easy To Be Hard", "Joy To The World" and "One". This was released in the late 60s, in response to all the racial tension then. What a shame that it's still so relevant.
"Easy to be Hard" is AMAZING
I love Joy to the world!
Momma Told Me Not To Come is worth a listen as well
@@markh2200 one of my FAVES!
"It's just the powers that be that keep it going."
Spot on my friend.
Because when the people all stand together, their stinking power games are done.
YES!!!! 👍🏻👍🏽👍🏿
If you listen to the lyrics, it's about the end of segregation, particularly school segregation. Fun while it lasted, now they're bringing it back! >:-(
Yup. Amen. It's just a tool that TPTB use to advance their false narratives to gain more power over us.
A&BJ, you'll love their "Joy To The World", "Shambala" ,"Momma Told Me Not To Come" and many more. They were a hit machine in the 70's.
Definitely momma told me not to come. The last minute is straight golden when the singer starts going off. 👍
Yes
Easy to be hard, Out of the country, One, Eli s coming, Just an old fashion love song, some good songs from 3DN
I had the album!
"Eliah is coming" is crazy deluxe too.
I love them more and more.
When you consider this song was written in 1954 and this particular cover was done in 1972, I think it makes it that much more meaningful. I was 7 years old when this version was released and it had quite an impact on me. I think that it peaked at number one the charts was telling as well. This video was really cute, but even without it this song makes me smile.
Wow really? I didn't know it was written way back in the 1950s. But what a powerful positive message that song brought to people. I was lucky to be old enough to remember when this song first came out. This is a song that the younger generation need to hear in the midst of so much aminosty divide and hatred I see today.
What a great song! All kids should learn this in school.
Yeah, we sang this in school forty years ago. We were taught what Martin Luther King Jr. espoused: To judge one another by the content of our character and not the color of our skin. This nation has been on an upward trajectory towards racial harmony and understanding for many decades. Now teachers and schools teach kids that it's not your character that counts but the color of your skin and with whom you identify. They, along with corrupt, feckless and quite frankly soulless and evil politicians and media outlets are perpetuating racial division and hate for nothing more than power and profit.
Should be taught in the home.
It must start at home.
We sang this in elementary school in the 1980s.
@@oregonchick76 another beauty is “ Get Together” by the Youngbloods.
This song was written in the 1950s after Brown vs Board of Education and was recorded by Pete Seeger!
SEPARATE IS NOT EQUAL.
Thank you to the U.S. Supreme Court for stating it plainly so that everyone can understand. An example for American citizens and to inspire the entire world.
Let's remember who we are: stand on Truth and uphold our American Values. ❤❤❤ 🇺🇸🇺🇲❤❤❤
The actor Alan Arkin's teacher father wrote this after Brown v B.O.E., there are more verses to this. And there is only one race, of course. We are ALL earthlings.
@@fredtello Your ignorance is loud and clear with this comment.
Exactly, kids are not born racist, it is taught and that is a very sad statement for all of us !!
I'm amazed that these songs of inclusion among races was recorded about 40 years ago. Thanks for sharing this to new generations
We sang this in 1st grade music class in Newark nj catholic school 1970 . At least we tried to while the record player played the 3 dog night 45 record. As I grew older I was told about the 1967 race riots in Newark nj. I never noticed that, of course I was 4 . 🤔😆👈 we weren't allowed to play outside, But the message was being taught to the kids.
To add some background; Black & White was written by David Arkin & Earl Robinson, in 1954, to celebrate the US Supreme Court decision in Brown vs Board of Education, ending segregation in public schools. Pete Seeger 1st released it in 1956. The original includes a verse later left out (to make it less specifically about the court decision & more about unity in general); "Their robes were black, their heads were white. The schoolhouse doors were closed so tight. Nine judges all set down their names, to end the years and years of shame."
@@wnsafford1854 I'd forgotten that verse! Thank you for reminding us.
This is 50 yrs ago, and in the 60's we matched arm and arm to fight for equal rights
@@donnabruhn6907 You're a hero!
It was in the Navy. First time I ever discovered that there really is no difference in people. Where I learned that you assess folks one person at a time. This is why I believe military service should be mandatory. For no other reason than to impose a little diversity upon some folks. To find out for yourself. Trust me. It is life changing. You make the most unexpected friendships and do the most unexpected things. And it is memorable into your last years upon the earth. Like it has done for me.
I couldn't agree more.
Beautifully and truthfully written
I am sorry but I have to disagree with this concept, perhaps the military forced everyone to swallow their pride and hatred, but that should be done anywhere and everywhere.
Me too brother
lets all hold hands in unity while, together, we fuck up yet another country
Growing up in a small town, we had one black family who had two boys. One was my best friend. We all knew that his skin color was different...that's all we knew. Didn't matter. Our Little Rascals Gang was White/Hispanic/Native/Black. We didn't know anyone was different. Somewhere that message has been misplaced. Yes, to this day...50 years later we all stay in touch.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I was 8 when this came out in 1972 and I didn't think twice about it being a message, because why would anyone need this message? It just seemed normal to me that everyone is the same, even though I was in a small town that was primarily white. A few years later in school, I learned about the history of discrimination and was horrified! I thank my mom for encouraging and instilling the intrinsic moral and ethical values that seemed like second nature to me; not yet having discovered any societal influences. You are both correct - ADULTS probably need this message the most, so they can lead by example as moral and ethical humanitarians who influence children.
@jerickson725. I also was 8 in 1972 and remember when this out.
This is who we are and they aint never gonna stop us, being biracial, I love this, so many of us have both black and white uncles and cousins and grandparents
I love this song. Remindes me of a video of two young kids who were friends, one black and one white. They were going to get the same haircut so the teacher would not be able to tell them apart. They thought that would be funny
I saw that
I remember this song as a kid back in the 70s. Always one of my favorites. Great Band also!!!!
Three Dog Night had TWENTY ONE top 40 hits in a 5 year period!!
That's a 40 year career for some. That's unattainable for most.
These guys were a hit machine. They had 4 or 5 singers that took, shared and changed the lead.
Only the Eagles have that level of versatility.
I have a lot of faves, but my all-time favorite is OUT IN THE COUNTRY. You won't be disappointed with any selection you make!
Cheers
Great video!
Fun fact: The expression “three-dog-night” means a night so bitterly cold you’d need three dogs in bed with you to keep you warm.
This is another song from that era where the message is just as current today as the day it was released. Truly timeless.
Never been to Spain and Shambala are two favourites by them. I have seen them in concert three times. Always a great concert. Cheers
I never will understand why Three Dog Night and The Monkees won't be inducted into the R & R Hall of Fame - they were great!
I love and respect what you said BJ. I am white, grew up in the 60's and when they call it the decade of love, that's what it felt like. All races loving each other regardless of race. I was very lucky to be raised by Jon racist parents, and what they taught me I passed along to my children . Keep up the great reactions! and congratulations on the 100I subs.
This song was written in the mid 1950s specifically to acknowledge and celebrate the Supreme Court decision that struck down segregation....therefore the reference to black children and white children now being able to learn to read and write together. Much has changed for the good in my 73 years in this culture....and there's still work to do......
Exactly. There is always work to do but we have made enormous strides in terms of racial divide. That however is no longer the narrative the elite ruling class wants us to believe. They are corrupt, malignant vultures.
This is the music I grew up with in my teen years. Three Dog Night was great. My favorite band was Sly and the Family Stone. I have had friends from all different races and ethnic backgrounds. I worked in the most diverse school in my state. The teenagers all got along. Then something happened around 2010 and now I don't recognize our country. I believe we will get back to just seeing people as who they are and not what boxes they check on a form.
"Shambala", "One" are good as well. They had several hits. enjoyed the look back.
They are one of the most under-rated groups of all time. Period. Great vocals, great hits, great music.
Far far away from underrated
@@robertkaplan1007 Robert, I think you are missing my point completely...unless you don't like them ? My point was that they don't get the credit they deserve for being so good ?????????????????????
@@Newfie-zc7ug I get the point, and Three Dog Night are Legedary! I think they are far far away from underrated!
@@robertkaplan1007 ...Wow....never mind !
Three Dog Night and The Guess Who are the two bands I believe are the most underrated and disrespected by the Rock n'Roll Hall of Fame
3 Dog Night "Eli's coming" It shows what these boys can really do.
Hide your heart girl
The 1975 video especially is epic.
I had a family friend who drove my Elementary school bus. We would be singing this and Joy to The World on the bus. I did not know it then but he was a minister. I graduated with his son. He was this kind of Rock Minister back in the early 70's. He was a very loving and caring man. He passed a little over a year ago, but this is one song that stays in my heart. LOVE CAN MAKE CHANGE IF YOU WANT IT TO!
Civil rights was a huge issue at the time this was recorded and to drive home the message of the song they used a children’s choir to sing the background vocals. Three Dog Night had 3 lead singers: Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron and Cory Wells. Hutton was featured on this. Sorry I missed the 100,000 subscriber party, congratulations. I dig your positive message, your spirit, and vibe. Stay safe and stay well.
😎✌🏻🤟🏻🖖🏻🤙🏻
This is the music I was raised on. Thank you for playing it. It needs to be played much more!
It's a great message. I'm 72 and a Vietnam Vet. There was no color in our unit except Olive Drab Green. Now out of the service the only color is Red, the color of blood.
God makes all babies beautiful... love all babies... thanks for the feel good song reaction, thumbs up ya'll ! ...yep and Amen.
Love your reactions! This song actually got lots of radio play. It still should. I was raised on AFB across the country. My first crush was Norma, a girl who was black and Korean. Children are blind to color until taught. Such a happy song! Embrace your fellow people!
You can't help but smile during this.
This song brings back so many good memories for the time. I say what you've said many times, that children don't know racism. The new generations seem to have forgotten that innocence.
3DN is one of my favorite groups from my childhood. I pray that with all that is going in the world that we can rise above the racism and the hatred.
"Out in Country" is my favorite song by this band. "Easy to be Hard" would be right up there too.
One of my favorite lines from Robin Hood, when a little peasant girl ask Morgan Freeman, "Did God painted you?" "Forsure little one. Because God makes us all with wondrous color's".
One of the many great songs by Three Dog Night🎤🎼💕🎸❤️
I loved the kids singing along. Awesome sauce 👌great reaction.
Congratulations on 100k love y'all reactions
I remember singing this in 5th grade music class in '73. Thanks for the reaction!
Saw these guys early 70’s. Great music, fun show.
Be Still My Heart. I remember this song well in the 70’s. Thank you for this beautiful song and message. ❤️❤️ And you absolutely right. I agree with every word you said. 😊
Three Dig Night was THE last 'hippie' band of that era. This song came out in 1972. I was a nere lad if 12 and it impacted me in such a positive way. My single-digit years were the 1960s during all the racial riots and turmoil. As a little kid, I couldn't understand it all. This song just put so many things in perspctive
Awesome. Yes, love each other. (Make politicians stop playing with and using us.) Music heals. You guys are great!
Jean S I could not have said it better, I'm so happy and greatful they listened to this great song.❤️
I was a little girl in nursery school when this came out (only 3 yrs. - 4 yrs. old.) The nursery school said that all they had to do to amuse myself, my best friend & a few others was to turn the radio on in the corner of the room & we would (when they let us) stand around it, singing & dancing.
THIS was one of my favourite songs at that time to sing & dance to - because of the music itself & the association I had with it. You see, I was a 3 yr. old little white girl, singing & dancing to this song, along with my best friend - who was a little black girl.
(I wish they had videos back then for me to see us with this song.)
It is NOT TRUE that children DON'T see colour! OF COURSE THEY DO, they just DON'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH COLOUR! Colour (as BJ was saying) just makes life more INTERESTING (& BEAUTIFUL), along with any other differences too.
In the United States, you have your "melting pot", where everybody is supposed to go in & you all become 1 thing - American.
In Canada, we have INSTEAD - our "Canadian Mosaic", as it is called. It is taught that you DON'T become one in the same way as in the United States. In Canada, our background nationalities ADD to the Canadian experience & make us better & stronger (& more beautiful) when we come together. We DON'T lose who we were, we just add to the Canadian experience & join with it - like a mosaic or stained glass window, which is MORE beautiful BECAUSE of the mixture of colours joining as one, but still not losing the full essence of who they are. This is something that I truly love about my country.
(I am not trying to say anything against anybody else or say that we are perfect, as nobody is - including Canada. We can all [& should] recognise our faults & work to make things better, - always.)
Man this took me back to my childhood when we would belt this song out in the playground, and the on the way home from school 💖💖💋
"United we stand, divided we fall."
One of my favorite bands from the 70’s...Great song!!!
I'm 66 yrs now and I think I was 13 or 14 when Three Dog Night came out and the drummer is a 'black brother ' and I was told then that he walked with part of his drumset to the audition over a hundred miles away and wether it's true or not...he got the position. I started a drummer at that age and listened to his soulful beats learning it on the kit at the after school center. Alot of bands like this just came out of nowhere at the time and in particular a band from Canada called The Guess Who. These two came out with hits left and right. There were so much Rock Bands especially after Woodstock! Peace be with you!!!
I saw the three dog night in concert! And I had a crush on the lead singer!
Kids get it...they dont know color..they just know love...this song was a light way before its time and made people realize that it doesnt matter the color...it just matters about human beings...always loved this song...and always loved Three Dog Night...one of my favorite groups ever.
Thanks for listening to this song. : )
Back in the 1970's - 3 Dog Night was one of my favorite groups. I Loved this song when it came out, and still love it just as much today. I am sad, however, that it's been around 50 years now and all those songs from the 1970s that sang about a new hope for erasing racism and ending wars have not come true.
I think we are making progress with the racism...but it's going sooo slow - and as for war...I am beginning to think that will never cease. There are just too many power hunger, land hungry people in this world.
Got to see Three Dog Night in concert. During this song the entire audience stood and sang together...lots of very positive vibes.
Can we do: "Jeremiah was a Bullfrog" from 3 dog night???
"Joy To The World" and yeah I'm with ya.
I feel like ""Joy To The World" is a song of theirs you may have heard before. These guys had some cool hits!
Three Dog Night!! Love them, and pretty much everything they did!
They were my first concert way back in the 70's. Been hooked ever since. Brings tears to my eyes. We need this message so much today. We are all part of the human race.
😍Some Three Dog Night Legendary Timeless 🎶🎶🎤 Group love all their songs and albums especially the song Joy to the World !!
Man, it brought back memories in my middle school years!! Really, the 70s had the BEST music...most diverse of GREAT music, songwriting, and musicians!!! This was a #1 hit back in the day. We had more inclusion, diversity, and tolerance growing up...
We are all one family!!! 👌✌many bands in the 60's & 70's addressed these issues. "Black Bird" by the Beatles is also a song to be inspired by!👍 Unfortunately Our government prospers with divide and conquer😞😠
I have ALWAYS loved this song...You 2 made me happy with your reaction... Thank you both!! 🥰
YESS! THREE DOG NIGHT!!very popular from late 60's to mid 70's
Aloha, This was a childhood song for me...written in light of desegregation in our public schools...peace
Love them! One of my fave voices. One and Easy to be Hard sooo good!!!
These guys also had an integrated band.Lots of peace & love...Joy to the world!
I spent 28 years teaching Elementary school. I can tell you right now that children of all different nationalities races religions come in the school building and they are best friends. They play together they play on Little League teams together . They don't look at each other as different They're all first graders or third graders or fifth graders.
Racism and hatred starts at home with adults. It doesn't help that our nation is also so divided politically right now. I just feel sorry for the children because if we would just leave them alone and follow their example What a wonderful World this would be.
This message came out during a time where we were trying to heal from segregation. And we didn't have a video to go with it but I got the message and a whole lot of people got the message and agreed with it. It was somewhat of an anthem for my generation.
This song came out after the crazy sixties when I experienced racial problems as a youngster, and our neighborhoods started to become separated, as children we didn’t understand why? We had friends and neighbors of all colors! BJ is right unity in the community! It is up to us black, white, people of all colors to make it not matter! Thx for listening to a band that tried to bring joy in all their songs! Listen to Shambala, Mama told me not to come etc, try a live version! They had awesome voices!
It really should be this simple .... good people and bad people, who do you want for a friend? NOTHING ELSE MATTERS! ... beautiful people like you and so many of the commenters are what makes life wonderful
Great reaction. Glad you picked this video with the pictures which underscore the words, and cause that smile that won't go away. Highly recommend their songs "Eli's Coming", "Momma Told Me Not to Come", and their best and most fun song "Joy to the World" which has one of the most iconic opening lines ever!
that was "50" years ago. So much hope back then....yet, here we are. We should be so far beyond what we are right now.
This should be played at the end of every damn newscast on TV. Watch the change. : )
Beautiful video, beautiful meaning....thanks for evaluating this!!! One of the awesome songs from over 50 years ago!!!
Beautiful people God has made ...gifts from His love .
You're beautiful people with an encouraging message ...more please !
This remains one of my favorite songs of all time. If you close your eyes and open your heart, you'll find that every person is a *person* and that remains the most important lesson *any* of us will ever learn.
I grew up hearing this on the radio growing up in 70's . it would make me cry every time.
This is just a beautifull song that should be viewed by everyone!!!!!
Remember when this came out!!! Yup I am old
Very underrated band from the 70's that should be in the hall of fame!! Check out "The Show Must Go On".
I am so proud to have grown up in the early 70's . It was a great time , minds were changing and people were coming together. There was struggle but there was a sense of love and peace that lingered from the late 60's and i really miss that feeling. You 2 keep it up !
The first live music i ever saw exceot for in church! I was 12 and they were playing a small venue in Texas before they became widely popular.
You all know this song makes me cry. Ever since I first heard it in 1972. I’m 68 now and it still moves me.
I listened to this song as a kid. We loved this band and the message was clear. Love one another.
I grew up listening to this song. As a child I remember dancing around the living room with my brothers and sister. The song and the message has been part of my life.
Bravo Asia and BJ
Great video your words inspirational truthful clear love
Just to love young people discover music from another Era. It's not all bad.
This song and video make it perfectly clear WE are the problem , we being the Adults....We teach the kids
one of the BEAUTIFUL things about music in the 60s and 70s, was the amount of message songs... if you have time, give a listen to, "he ain't heavy, he's my brother," by the hollies...
You could see the live performances they were such fun to watch
what you have to realize is when this song came out. Everyone loved it and it made you think. back then we all had things to think about.
Haven't heard this in forever! I used to have the 45 record of this and played it until it was scratching! One of my favorite childhood bands! Thanks for reacting to this! ♥️
All colors are beautiful and precious, all people are beautiful and precious, we need to see each other as brothers and sisters and treat each other with love and kindness. Hugs!
The lady holding the child at 8:05 is Princess Diana of England. ( Prince William and Prince Harry’s Mother) Her involvement with charities that helped children captivated the world’s hearts. She was the first “Royal” to actually volunteer and help not only in the UK. Not sure if you recognized her.
Three Dog Night - one of my favorite groups of all time. "Black and White" was sung by Danny Hutton & Cory Wells; 2 of the 3 main vocalists of the group. The original live video of this song with their 70's swag is awesome; you might want to check that one out. "Easy to Be Hard" & "Pieces of April" by Chuck Negron and "One" are awesome songs; "Out in the Country" & "Liar by all 3, and "Mama told me Not to Come" by Cory. Well, any song they did was a hit.. If you ever heard of Australian singer John Farnham, you should react to him doing "One" live; he's amazing. RIP Cory. x
Music brings all people together , yet look at how our country still is. Cmon people let’s all get along and be the country we claim to be. Be blessed guys, love hearing music from my younger years. That’s right I’m old
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite groups of the period. You should check out the songs "The Show Must Go On", "Never Been To Spain" and "Shambala"
I was seven when this song popped up and grew up with this philosophy, my whole life. It’s a beautiful thing. Love is.
