      You are misinformed. The "four eye" front end is ALSO a JDM bumper. The first Integras of this body style ALL came with the four eye bumper. What you are looking at is a Japan-only facelift that happened mid cycle. It is not a case of "this is the JDM front for all integras of this generation". The new design didn't fit crash standards due to shaving the length a few mms too short in front therefore not fitting the mandatory steel crash bar underneath which is about 1/3 larger than the JDM one.

    I've long been fascinated how many small differences there were for such a niche car. Thanks for adding to the knowledge.
    While the JDM R's could come with ABS, A/C, Airbags, they were all option deletes. Ditto for the radio, third brake light, clock, even the rear parcel tray(rear wiper was never an option). Japanese buyers had the most options when ordering. I've even seen two original JDM r's with the smaller Gsr wing from new(it was more expensive than the taller R wing. And lighter). The weights given for the model were based on all those options removed. And that was dry weight too. So that probably explains a lot of the stated weight difference. Though the Recaros are heavier than the USDM seats(my 98 spec JDM had all the deletes except for the A/C).
    Of the wheels the European market 15's were the lightest(I've a set of Ek9(US/Can), EDM 15's and JDM 16's. Cos I'm mad :D)
    Colours like you note were at various times; white, yellow, black and red, with special edition yellow for Switzerland and Australia, silver was a JDM only option.
    Interior differences included the seats and Momo steering wheel on non NA cars. Centre console for NA market only. Same with the cool trunk carpet. Canada got a small run of red back seats too. NA rear seats were different anyway with the plastic tray in the middle. Alloy "racing" pedals were an option in Japan, standard in the 99- Rx model, an option in Europe. Dunno if the rear strut bar was an option in NA? It wasn't in Europe. It wasn't a standard fitment in JDM, but a dealer option. Same with wind deflectors. A roof box and bicycle rack were also available.
    The runout JDM only Type R-x came with the fake carbon trim in a bluish colour, Gathers six speaker radio, clock, alarm(also in the Euro models), keyless entry and fully loaded with all the options(no delete available), tinted rear windows, power folding mirrors, balanced half shafts and a slightly different engine map. It was the heaviest of the R'sand the only JDM model to ever come with a numbered console badge.
    Rear lights varied across the years and markets. US getting red indicators and an extra bulb at the side, Europe getting pale indicators and Japan getting orange(oddly in "my" Irish market we got the JDM orange for some reason. Crazy because if they sold 20 R's here I'd be shocked).
    Nice info on the different pistons in the engines M. Didn't know that. Apparently another reason for that was Japan has 100 octane fuel, whereas Honda felt US petrol/gas was lower, or customers might chose lower octane, so lowered the compression slightly. The JDM 98 spec Vtec engaged 100 RPM later.
    The exhaust manifold was different in the JDM 98 spec on. Catalytic converter was smaller too. Rear roll/sway bar was bigger. Spring and damper rates were different as well. The Australian version came with golden coloured brake callipers for some reason.
    I have a few copies of a JDM Honda dealer options sheet with prices, so if you want one M let me know. I can fire one off in the post.
    Noticed the white Irish county Donegal 98 spec. I may know that very car. :)

    • @roochiecooch
      @roochiecooch 6 лет назад +2

      You're correct he got the lug pattern wrong. The CTR had 15's in 5x114.3 that were the same as the US Spec ITR 15's that are also 5x114.3. They are exactly the same wheel only one comes with Acura center caps and the other with Honda center caps. I was going to correct him too, but then I saw your comment. I don't think Honda uses 5x100 on any of their 5 lug cars, at least not in the US. Toyota on the other hand uses 5x100 on the FRS, corolla iM, corolla sedan, prius, matrix, and the Scion (Toyota) tC's, and Subaru uses 5x100 also on the WRX, n/a impreza, and forester.

    I own a JDM '97 ITR. (96 spec)
    The weight differences are because they deleted EVERYTHING. Mine doesn't even have a rear wiper. However it does have ABS and aircon, which Im pretty sure were options for it though.
    Center console, nope. Dont have one. No storage there, its just the handbrake.
    Dash is different, USDM one has standard red needles. Mine are yellow and the font for the writing is a bit different I think.
    No airbags at all.
    Steering wheel is different as well, the USDM version got a much thicker and uglier one IMO.
    Seats as you mentioned are different. Mine are the black Recaro SR3s and they are the comfiest car seats I have ever sat in.
    Engine is different as you mentioned, the USDM is the B18C5, mine is the B18C (usually referred to as the B18CR because it doesn't have a different number from the regular B18C found in the non type R JDM models iirc) VTEC activation is 5800RPM, redline is 8400 and limiter is 8900. I found the prime shift RPM to be 8600 for max acceleration. (You can drop out of vtec for a split second if you're not careful when shifting at 8400)
    S80 gearbox with the LSD, gear ratios on this gearbox are perfectly alligned to match with this engine alone, if you shift at the red line in any gear you will end up exactly at 5800-6000rpm in the next gear which gives you optimal power at all times. However it does mean its really short ratios so at 100kph(60mph) im doing 3500rpm cruising down the motorway.
    Otherwise obvious front end/wheels etc.

  • @DabDabGoose
    @DabDabGoose 5 лет назад

    a big reason for the weight difference is the 96 spec didn't have airbags, you showed a picture or two of the interior, no steering wheel airbag and no passenger dash airbag.

    The jdm type-rx had a blue tinted carbon look interior trim
    None of the itr wheels were 5x100

    My ITR is currently 2250lbs with all interior trim added back, but it's very basic with no AC, heater core, PS, ABS, or CD player with additional lightweight 15's. It's not uncommon to see much lighter once composite materials replace things like the hatch/hood/doors and gutted interiors. There's always a way to get lighter, but generally it just gets more expensive to a certain point.

    B18c6 was UK engine it was exactly the same other than exhaust manifold and ECU and that counted for a 10bhp loss making 187bhp

    • @Kyring
      @Kyring 6 лет назад

      Americans must have smaller horses so their numbers are bumped. Acura B18C5 = 0.6:1 less compression, Less aggressive cams, same crapy exhaust manifold the UK got, same longer Cat, even worse ECU map as their fuel has even less octane yet they still claim 195hp........?

    glass isn't as heavy over there
    US front end is also heavier
    i don't think they have airbags or it's an option recaro seats are lighter also

    I never understood why the Integra Type-R was sold as an ACURA instead of a HONDA in the US...

    • @MITONFILMS
      @MITONFILMS  5 лет назад

      Because the ITR was considered a luxury vehicle at the time. And as you know Acura is the "luxury" manufacturer of Honda. Same goes for Lexus, Infiniti etc.

    • @Kev27RS
      @Kev27RS 5 лет назад

      @@MITONFILMS Well, it's kinda weird though that the TYPE-R was considered a *luxury* car... 🤔
      I see it as a HONDA sports model, there's nothing luxury and classy about it.
      That's why I never understood...
      The NSX I get it, but the Integra...
      Side note:
      The same bug eye model was sold in Europe as a normal HONDA.
      (well, ACURA doesn't sell there.)

    I think you were saying the B18 c vs B18 c-5 the B18-c was the US gsr engine. And the C-5 was itr. Unless I'm wrong, I didn't know the jdm type R was listed as the same as the US GSR engine?

    • @MITONFILMS
      @MITONFILMS  6 лет назад

      B18C1= US GSR
      B18C5= TYPE R
      B18C= JDM GSR
      B18C= JDM TYPE R
      You cant tell the difference by the code for the jdm engines. (I.e) K20A
      H22A
      B18B Etc.

      That's the American way of thinking. You can build your Type R motor for more power without going crazy, I have a JDM CD video of a Japanese motor builder it's called Acura Honda or some shit and the dude is building a Type R motor. I don't know what he is saying, but I have watch this video so many time that I know what he is doing. He build a perfect Type-R motor... No boost no supercharger just NA.
