Spoiler alert! I learnt many wood working things. Enjoy

Mark something weird clicked yesterday (Sunday). I heard a voice in my own head talking to me like I was offering myself a new job Monday morning if I wanted it. Being an "unwanted probably never work a regular job again" old bloke I decided to turn up to my own new job and I started this morning! Dug out all my scrap wood and yep this time I just. got. started. It is amazing what I already had lying around - old screws, old wood, even tools I found in the local tip electro-scrap like a planer! By the middle of the day I was covered in sawdust and sweat but was busy measuring, cutting with my newly bought used mitre saw, gluing and screwing! Then my screwdriver went to sleep as it is quite old! Back in the charger for tomorrow's new blast of work! Of course I could have bought a bench but building a new bench of my own is so satisfying! I am/was an academic type but this "doing" is so therapeutic for me. Usually I'm outside this time of year planting or mowing people's lawns but it is pouring with rain so now I have an indoor creative outlet! This is all thanks to you Mark! I'll video the bench when it's done.

Mark, have you considered building an extension jig that could be used with the table saw, thickener, router table? Using pipes similar to the pipe clamps. Build a pipe cube so you can add height as needed and have wheels on the four bottom corners for portability. Just my thought. 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸

I love it, and by the looks of things, you had a great time building it. A few errors along the way, but that's ok. With each error, we force ourselves out of our comfort zones to fix it either with a design change or using an unfamiliar skill. The worst thing that could happen now is if you never make a mistake again, because only through mistake do we really ever learn. Btw, your butt clamp is a lightweight compared to my own, though I'm not sure I should brag about it 🤣🤣🤣👍👍

Great job. I like yours better than my current bench. Which means, I'm going to have to make a new primary bench and use the 2 old ones I've already built for my miter/slide saw. And I'll include all of your fancy design qualities in mine, too. I like symmetrical the stuff.
Question... Did you use lag bolts to fix the top to the base?

@@dainermade Lag bolt, in Texan, is a self-seating bolt with a hex head. Coach bolt, in Texan, is a regular bolt with a nut fastener, but much bigger that a machine screw, with a hex head.
I know there's a language barrier, so to speak. I had a client in Melbourne and sometimes it took pictures to get on the same plane (not the flying kind).

@@dainermade LOL!!! What's "wrong" is one dialect is "right" in another. Its just understanding each dialect.
I'm reminded of a story told by a famous female Latin talk show host. She was from Cuba, but lived in Miami. She was interviewing a person from S America and used a word that totally offended the interviewee. She said it numerous times, and finally the interviewee stormed off the stage.
She didn't understand what went wrong. Got a lot of hate mail, email, etc. Finally, a few days later, someone filled her in on the word she was using which was no big deal in Cuban Spanish, meant the equivalent of "dick head" / "penis head" in the interviewee's Spanish dialect. She revealed this tidbit in an interview with Oprah, which I was forced to watch by my, now, ex-wife. It was the best part of the interview.
Cheers mate! Now grab yourself a beer and a fag, and have a good time.
