G'day Mark, so great to discover a fellow Aussie woodworker on RUclips mate. Always support Aussie's when I find them. I'm a hobbyist woodworker in Shepparton Victoria. I'm very much a beginner focusing on good 'ol chopping boards with live edges learning tools and finishing. I've done a few small boxes for the shop for tools etc using pallets so I will be looking up your tips and tricks on breaking down pallets - I'm fairly crippled with fast moving arthristis's (lots of spare parts inserted :)) so I'm always looking for ways to do things that don't rely too heavily on strength. See i dont get that. Using a chisel is great fun and keeps your skills well rounded. trying to only do power tool woodworking is boring and i dont get any gratification from it. I understand time is money but i dont sell my projects and i get so much fun and feel so good when i complete my projects. My friends often see them and ask me how much. I tell them its from a pallet and they are amazed and still want it. So i give it to them as i can just go to my local mower shop, bunnings, motor cycle shop heck practically anywhere that brings in their goods on pallets. Go for places that sell heavy things like motors and such because they use better stronger pallets. Getting back to my point. I wouldn't even do woodworking if it was not enjoyable and rewarding to me. Not using hand tools in the build and relying on power tools for accuracy instead of honing my abilities to become a better woodworker is just not fun. I value skill very much. Making something from my own ability is what i'm about. I do have some power tools but i dont use them exclusively. Table saw for ripping boards to width (which takes a lot of work doing by hand) makes that step so much faster. If a mortise is needed i find it faster to just grab a chisel and make it than have to get my drill get the right size bit drill the excess wood out then still have to grab my chisel to finish the job. I can get it done much faster without all the extra steps. same with many things as most power tools require set up and hand tools dont is what im saying.👍😉
