I've been running a small business for quite a few years and I do a lot of flip house and remodels and I would say 8 out of 10 jobs I get have wallpaper that needs to be removed or covered. I always just go with the oil based paint it really sucks to work with but it's always going to be a guarantee that it's going to seal it up and you'll be good to go for paint. Best wishes!
Kilz Original = Oil based. Kilz Mold and Mildew = water-based. Apples vs. oranges. Use apples. Wallpaper adhesive is water soluble so water-based primer will dissolve rather than seal it.
I've said it before and I'll say it again...skim coat with lightweight premix joint compound with ad mix (acrylic mortar adhesive) to ensure good bond. Prime with gardz. Apply paint or wallpaper. Job done. Great vid Spencer keep 'em coming.
I’m having these issues. Remixing multiple rooms with wallpaper and the paper backing of it. Very hard to come off. Behind the paper backing they even did light skim coat to cover the original textured walls. I was recommended to try and take off as much as possible, soak and wash off with sponge, then apply GARDZ and one light coat of skim before spraying orange peel. Any suggestions?
@@mpxz999depends, if all the wallpaper came off I would then scrub (use a stiff deck brush on a pole) and wash the walls to remove glue, at that point skim coat and seal with gardz . If you're having a hard time with removing glue you can seal it first with gardz then skim coat and reseal with gardz before painting or wallpapering.
A simple and effective way to remove wallpaper with minimal damage to the surface.especially when the walls are just boarded and not plastered or been previously painted or printed.this work especially good on removing woodchip paper which is the worst kind of paper to remove.all you need is an airless sprayer.warm water.no need for scoring the walls but that will speed up the process even more.i ve know decorators to take 2 to 3 days just to strip one room.just crank your sprayer upto say 2000 psi or higher if you want.and spray directly onto the wallpaper.leave for 10 mins for the warm water to do its job then strip away.because of the high psi it ll pierce the surface easily and reach the paste/adhesive on the wall and soften it because of the hot water.cuts stripping wall paper time 10 fold.trust me it works.worst job in the world is stripping wallpaper .especially wood chips and painted anyglypta s.hope this helps everyone.
I’m confused… Do you like my video DAVID or do you not? I did not read the whole thing, but please, I’m feeding the baby tell me, did I do a good job here or no?
IDK why there are ANY negative comments on here😂! You people have obviously never actually come up against this problem. Had a bathroom eall that had been paneled over with wood then wallpapered badly and incorrectly , paunt and paste as the glue backing 🤷.What a Mess!!!!!!! Did i have time to rip out walls,NO! He's right and it Worked. Primed and SKIM COAT. Good luck to you ' all with your garden pumps and sanders . Lol😂😂
Thank you! After some time has passed since this project, would you still recommend the oil based primer? I've got some cover stain oil primer, but am wondering if I truly need something like gardz.
Conversation will knock you over dead ..esp.in an enclosed area..even with a respirator! We you No Odor Kilz ( oil- base). Water based Kilz or other primers react with the water based glue..and that is why you go with the oil.
I will it and will not and will not hire anyone because it’s a waste of money and I would sheet rock it or panel it I have No patience for that no way.
I completely agree about removing everything. Seriously. The next thing is, why would you prime the wall before removing everything, spackling or skim-coating, and sanding?
Not sure how serious to take you after watching this video. Why would you not remove the wall plates prior to priming your walls? Literally takes you seconds. 🤨 and it would help if you used the tiger tool. Lightly score the walls, spray, remove. Pretty disappointing with this specific video, and I normally like all your videos. Probably a house somewhere in the ghetto I hope, and not a high end house. Lbs
I didn’t take them off because I was in a groove. Moving. Removing. Priming. Doing a video. And you’re not sure how seriously you should take me? “The ghetto?” I don’t work in the areas you’re referring to. I eventually removed the cover plates.
@@spencercolgan well it made you look stupid like you shouldn’t be removing wall paper. Yeah nice to know you removed it after everything was primed. 😂 come on Spence you can do better than that.
Garden pump sprayer not mist, fill with 800ml Diff makes 10lit. Will remove that simple no damage. Then 225 sander with a 180 disc. Then one full coat Zinsser Gards. Then do your filling preparation. Spot then two full coats colour of your choice. But you can clearly see from your videos you are a chancer and not qualified decorator.
That’s a funny comment. Your solution would never work on this product. Andrew, you may in fact be a decorator who in fact is doing it wrong. This is wallpaper that was applied directly onto sheet rock; how is it that your solution would work so easily? Don’t you think other people know how to get wallpaper down easily? Your comment shows that you have an exaggerated sense of self, in my opinion
Made my whole manufactured home from the 90’s with this video 😅 thank you
Christopher walken vibes
Definitely
Lol. He does sound like him.

@@YoBoySosa if the paper backing is not bubbling and hard to scrape off seal with gardz, skim it smooth then spray texture and prime and paint.
Question: regarding the order... After the wallpaper is stripped, should I skim coat FIRST? Or prime with gardz first, and skim coat after?

Steamer is great if you take off the handle and use the hose only.
Good idea, take the wallpaper off with your nails, I’ve been doing it wrong for year, I’ve been using a 6 inch knife 🤣

He is showing what to do though if you do have to pull wallpaper off walls and damage it. The oil based Kilz original works well first for that.
@@nikluv21 I know.and I'm only saying how you can get around damaging the walls completely by using sprayer
Did you skim coat right over the Kilz original when you were done?

Original is oil based. The new killz is water-based

Paper tiger perforation and wall paper stripping solution
What about Gardz then primer?
Gardz is enough.
That is my wall and painted it over as my agent told me. It I'd terrible and waste of money. Can i still prime it?
Yes. Apply Zinsser Gardz. Put 2 coats. Skimcoat Sand. Prime with a good sealer…gardz in excellent over skimcoat. Paint. You’re done.
Think this was a job for the power washer 🤣
Maybe next time scrape walls first, sand them, wipe them, then primer???

Amateur. You don't leave any paper
If you do, he shows how you fix it. Nit all wallpaper is alike.

What should I use now that I removed everything but some of the paint under the wallpaper came off too? Which primer on exposed drywall?
