I totally agree with you. I started going natural about 3 years before COVID. I braided my hair often & went to the salon for treatment. My hair was ok, not bad but it wasn't thick. However during COVID lockdown, with no option of braiding or going to the salon I started taking care of my own hair. I started watching utube videos, incorporated natural products, doing deep conditioning with avocado, funegreek, banana, honey, amla, moringa, etc. From March 2020 to now I have seen great improvement. My hair is thick & healthy. I follow a strict regime & my hair is flourishing. My hair is always in protective style. Early this year I went to my hair dresser for the first time in 2 years & she was shocked at how full, healthy & long my hair is. My edges are back & full. I am so obsessed with my hair it has become a hobby. I make my own oils & deep conditioners. I wish I had started years ago but better late than never 💙👍.

I’m going to say this. I do believe genetics does play a role in your hair growth. Some people are not going to be able to grow waist length hair and that’s okay. However, using that as an excuse is silly. I believe the majority of BW can grow their hair long. My hair is currently mid-back in the back, and bra-strap length In the front not sure if I I’ll get to waist length but I will try. Hair length is NOT ‘genetic’ . Hair is hair and hair in it’s nature is *supposed* to grow and grow long. It’s just that a lot of people with kinky hair in a state of frustration don’t want to do what it takes to grow their hair long. If you leave the other hairs on your body alone, don’t they grow? Your arm pots, your legs etc. Don’t they just grow when you leave them alone?

Genetics is a big factor. Even with the best of care some heads of 4c hair will never attain waist length because of hair growth rate and genetics.
