Omg girl, you have the *_exact_* hair type as me 😲 This is so inspiring. Thank you for that tip about one product at a time. I’ve noticed my hair does better with *less* products than *more* . I really don’t need a leave-in, curling custard, or gel, or mouse or whatever aside from olive oil or castor oil and my homemade whipped shea butter (or just plain raw shea butter). I'm about to cut all my hair off and start over. I'm in my early 20s and have only now started to appreciate my natural hair. I had it out this past year and I never felt more like myself but it's never healed from all the chemicals and heat. It's going to take me years to grow it back (it's never been past shoulder length) but I don't care. Wish me luck!
So true about the salons. Everytime I go to a salon my hair gets damaged even more. So I’ve officially stopped going to them. Thanks for the really good advice.
Glad to hear that you too feel like your hair being out and twisting at night is you're protective style. It seemed like no one understood this method. This does work. It's my staple too. ❤
Wow, I'm in the process of going from relaxing to letting my hair going to natural. I have trimmed the ends of my hair, I will moisturise my hair, your hair is so nice!!!!!! Blessings!!!
Anne Marie Chase you can stay relaxed if you put your relaxer in properly & treat your hair properly cause if you go natural & don’t treat your hair properly it can result in a bad state also

Hello! I've been natural, all my life. I must say that it brings me joy to see ladies embrace their natural hair! I love all of your tips to retaining length. although I have been natural for so long? I am still learning how to maintain healthy natural hair. I have a few questions. my first question is, could washing hair do more damage than good? and if so, how?
I don't believe in frequent hair washing. I think co washing once every two weeks is good and shampooing monthly is more than enough in the colder months. Too much washing sometimes can lead to more breakage.
Aquarelle 1978 salons are not bad do research 1st before going to a salon professional hairstylist know the proper way to treat hair make sure their licensed
Oh I feel sooooo much better! I've been without a hairdresser for 5 years bcuz of moving to a new state, but I just don't trust anybody. Whenever I go back home I go to my old hairdresser, but I've just been doing my hair myself. Glad I'm not alone in my feelings, although I do like to sit in a salon to get pampered every once in a while 😉. But my hair is thriving and I really enjoy watching channels like yours for tips on routines for our type of texture. Keep up the good work! I subscribed today 😊
I want your hair!!! All of it!! Lol ..... Great tips. You are really speaking the truth when you say avoid hair salons. Those hairdressers are so rough... I know my hair follicles are literally crying when I sit in a hairdressers chair. You are speaking the truth. 👏😊🇹🇹😇
I have done braids for years and after taking out the braids after every two months my hair loss was so great that i saw no hair growth. I thank you for highlighting that one has to choose the protective style that works for your hair. I have now decided that i will protect my hair with wash and go's. I wash my hair once a week and do the pineapple at night. Every week when i wash my hair their is hardly any shedding compared to when i took the braids out... there use to be so much shedding that it filled both my hands. Thanks for your advice!!
1st HONEST PERSON about protecting styles!!!!!! My hair got SOOOOOOO very thin and it comes out with my hands by touching it. I would keep my braids and crochet in for about 2 months sometimes 3 months and when I take them down, I see more hair in the sink than on my head. It has gotten so thin and the areas that had some length before you can barely catch to braid. I am now, for the first time wearing a wig, daily, so that I can treat my hair more often. Until I saw your video, it didn't dawn on me that I was still causing damage because I still continue to have corn raids under the wig and I noticed that my hair gets very dry fast although I use thick oils between the braids and sometimes spray it with leave in conditioner. So, THANK YOU!!!! I will now try going without the braids for a while so that I my hair would be free and clear for any treatment I need to do. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!!!! Happy Easter!!!
Jabou baa did you treat your hair properly when you color your hair did you do a strand test to see how fast the color will work on your hair did you time the color what volume was used what strength relaxer do you use for your hair type how long did you keep the relaxer on your hair when you did a retouch relaxer did you put the relaxer only on the new growth & not all of the hair see all this matter when doing a chemical all hair can be good hair if treated properly I’ve had relaxed & color treated hair since I was 10 with a relaxer & 13 with color & my hair is healthy & long it’s all about treatments
Thank you for this informative natural hair care tutorial. You are right about finding the right product for your hair type. I had tried various hair care products in the past, and my hair responded differently to certain products. Now I stick to the product that works best for my hair. You are on point about staying out of these hair salons, and that no one is going to care for your hair like you will care for it. Your hair is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Blessing to you.
These tips are so true. I managed to grow my hair to a small length last year which I was quite pleased with. I braided it once last year in October for 5 weeks and it completely fell out. I have started all over again and am definitely not braiding it anymore for a few years
I found you a few days ago and I am so happy I did because, I am also passion about natural hair but it is taking me a while to learn what my hair need. I am finally finding the ones, I want to follow with hair like mine. I started my journey June 2, 2014 it was getting thinner now I am using green tea treatment which seem to help. I am in my late 60s plus lots of health problems which calls for medicines. I have not used any heat since I started my natural journey and don't have any desire to do so. My hair seem to grow slow. Since I found you I like your tips so thank you young lady.
+13 d-greenlaw I am really going to focus on giving a lot of information about growing natural hair and length retention. So I truly hope I can make a difference in your hair journey. Your message inspired me, thank You.😘

Wow. I 've seen a lot of videos on length retention, and this video gives specifics. Recently, I started using a powder in my hair and I need to redo (loc) it ev 5 days. I was not doing that before and I have gained a good inch of growth by doing this within 30 days. I would love to see your wash and moisturizing routine. I know now I am on the right track. I got to keep trying until I find something that works. I just subscribed. You hair is geogeous and I appreciate your realness.
I'm wearing 6 twists in back, 2 on each side, twist on top as pic. The powder chebe, Ms. Sahel, (a new item), I use as an oil for hair and a coffee oil, babiblon kay for scalp. My back top twist are armpit length. I am so excited, because it is now thicker in the back. Now I'm waiting for my top to fill in. Tuck ends away by buns-high or low, wrap around, bend under using rubber bands. French rolls.
Alberta Reid, I did a separate reply. As pic, 6 twists in back, 2 on side, twist on top. The powder chebe, on my hair as an oil, Ms. Sahel new item, and a coffee oil for scalp, babiblon kay. Tuck ends away buns, high or low, wraparound, French rolls, bend ends under using rubber bands.

Why am soo late To know about ur channel 😥😥😥🤗😊just subbed as soon as I saw ur hair...am just addicted to loong healthy natural hair ❤️❤️😅😁just go and watching all of ur videos ❤️😁thank you for the tips 😍beautiful long and healthy hair ❤️
This is so true I feel like I could've been at tailbone length if I kept up with everything that I knew I needed but we all learn what is good and bad for us. For me switching up my products was a veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy bad habit and I have been scissor happy since cosmetology school but I'm glad I know how to fix my issues lol. But I've stopped now
Hi! I am so impressed by the length of your hair... I'm thinking about going natural but I'm scared since my hair is very coarse and I am used to my long relaxed hair (mid-back length). Was your hair previously relaxed? If yes, did you transition for a long time? How long did it take for you to grow your hair so long? Can you make a video on your natural hair journey? Many thanks in advance, you are a great inspiration
This is an awesome video. This natural journey has been a struggle with me:-( I inadvertently big-chopped by going to the hair dresser for a trim and she chopped off over half of my length so Im back at at a TWA. Im a little discouraged (throughout my journey) because I have only had collarbone/shoulder length hair but maybe I will be able to grow it past shoulder length with educating myself on the health of my hair and length retention . Im 4C, low porosity, I guess medium density. You give me hope. Your hair is beautiful!!!!
Just FINALLY CUT MY HAIR to like an inch 😁 I’m genuinely happier like that hair that got off my head made me feel like a weight was lifted off of me , kinda weird . I’ll miss my longer hair but I feel way better with it short !!
Thank you for your tips. I follow a lot of these myself and now I have longer hair around the back and sides. Your hair looks so lovely. Unfortunately I lost a lot of hair on top due to chemo drugs but I love seeing the different natural curls I have and learning how to take care of my hair. I discovered that combing my hair while it's dry caused breakage - now I moisturize and have enough hair to cover over the top of my head and hide my hair loss. I'm glad now I don't have to wear wigs all the time!
How do you tuck all that gorgeous luscious hair under a wig? My hair isn’t anywhere near your length and I am having trouble with hiding my hair under wigs without having bulks and lumps. PS your hair is EVERYTHING!! I am so happy to see a long haired 4c type of woman! Hoping to learn a lot from your channel! I have been stuck at bra strap length for years and I am frustrated and tired.
Great tips thanks. And I feel u on trying to talk to people who give a damn about their natural. Most of my sisters don’t have a clue but they keep complaining about their hair.
Excellent tips - Ive made a comment many times on FB & here to women to just Keep your natural hair routine simple - adding all these products in their hair is not cheap at all & is most likely just wasting their time.
Nice video, I'm starting an 8 month, 8 inch hair growth challenge, my goal, to do everything right and healthy for 8 months then check my length and see if I got my 8 inches. My nape is a little past collarbone length my goal is for my crown to reach mid back. Right now my crown touches my shoulders. You are correct in finding the product your hair likes. I have found my staple hot oils, detangler, poo, DC, and leave in concoction for my protein sensitive, low porosity 4c hair (I'm no longer a product junkie) also the right nighttime moisturizing/tie up routine (On days I want to look extra cute I Bantu the night before, on regular days I want to look cute i twist/wrap/stretch, on days I plan to stay home and chill I keep it twisted/stretch/wrapped and tied and put on a cute sun hat, newsboy, ball cap or fedora if I need to run to the store. Here's the kicker though, I plan to massage my scalp inverted every single day for ten minutes before bed. My curl definition is insane, I have a curl pattern I never knew existed and I love my hair. Great video.
Healthy meaning: drink 3 liters of water daily, vitamins, 1 salmon croquette everyday (great in omega 3 + protein), keep hair tied up every night, scalp massage daily, LCO daily, poo every two weeks, keep small umbrella and rain bonnet in my purse. If humidity is bad, I keep it tied up and under cute caps/sun hats
You are so right about mixing products! I actually tried SO Many products this summer & fall but I'm staring to see a decline in the health of my hair. I'm going to stick to the same products for a month from now on. Also product ingredients is VERY important! I don't know any natural or long haired person that got their hair to their hips or butts w/ out using more natural products or DIYs so I'm done w/ sulfates/silicones & cheap drugstore products. My hair has gotten increasingly drier by using non natural stuff & I knew I had to stop but it's sooner than later. I also need to get waay better at detangling.
Love your hair and love this video! Very informative. But I saw from the first pic that you grew your hair out from a short length. Could you give a tutorial or tips on how you grew out your hair from the shorter length, how you took care of it, your challenges, transition etc? Would be great.
Hello, i love your tips and advise that you are giving us on our natural hair journey. Please advise me on what I'm doing and not doing to have hair growth and retention. I'm natural for over 15 years and my hair is the same length, ived tried so many things and I actually give up because I don't know what I'm doing wrong. My hair weighs down easily with the oil and leave in cream. What ever products i used it doesn't gives me the satisfaction, my has is 3c around and the middle is 4 something. Frustrated!😥
Deslyn Fortune hi there. I came across your question and thought I should respond. So sorry to hear about your frustration with your hair journey. My hair is multi textured as well. My hair is primarily 4b/4c and 4a (looser texture) around the perimeter. So I understand your struggle. I have a few questions for you. How often do you moisture? What types of oils/butters or products do you use and how often? How often do you wash your hair? How often do you deep condition or do hot oil treatments? Do you protective style, if so what? How often do you trim? What’s your porosity? The game changer for me has been really knowing and understanding my hair. For example, what does it feel like when it’s dry or moisturized, or when it needs a protein treatment, or breakage vs shedding. Also, analyzing my hair’s response to different products. Once completely natural, I quickly realized that my hair loves and thrives on natural products. I highly recommend utilizing diy concoctions. You can tailor then to your hairs specific needs. Here are some tips: - Create a regimen that works with your lifestyle . - Be consistent. - Moisturize daily. I use water or my herbal tea leave in spray mixed with fermented rice water, and seal that with my oil and my Shea butter concoction. Water is your friend. - I highly recommend using Ayurvedic products - major game changer for me. - Create a wash schedule. Try using non sulfate shampoo. Experiment with clays (game changer). - Use lighter oils/butters that will accommodate your multi texture. As my hair gets longer my textured has changed. I’ve realized that my hair doesn’t like heavy butters along the length just my ends. So, I oil my hair from end to root (not root to end). Then apply my Shea butter concoction on my ends and whatever remains on my hands is applied along the length. - Always deep condition or do a hot oil treatments after washing. I make my own majority of the time. I do have a couple on standby for my extremely lazy days. These products are mostly natural based as well. I always take them up a notch by adding extra ingredients to (honey, oils, Ayurvedic powders, rice water, etc) - Trim or dust as needed. (I trim every 3-4 months) The less time in between trims the less I have to remove. It is a must for me. - If you protective style, reevaluate your method. I’ve learned the hard way that I can no longer do any single braids with added extensions - no matter how light or loosely installed the added hair may be. I end up experiencing a lot of breakage and thinned edges. So, my protective styles are twists and braids, and mini twists/braids, with no added hair. - When home keep your hair covered with a bonnet or scarf. - Remember your regimen may change based on the season and your hair needs. I usually try to wash/deep condition once a week, well that seldom happens. Lol! I’ve gone 2 weeks+ but continued to moisturize daily. - Be patient. Focus on health - length will follow. - Check out Henna Sooq for and Indian grocery stores for Ayurvedic powders. - Stick with what works. Keep it simple. Don’t be a product junkie. - Check out Bulknaturals on Etsy for oils, butter, and essential oils. I get my main oils (Olive, Grapeseed, avocado, and coconut oil) from Costco. I’ve also gotten a few on amazon (Black Jamaican Castor oil and glycerin). Never buy from a hair supply store. Mix your own. - Sorry for being so lengthy. Let me know if you any questions. I hope this helps.

It's going to take me years to grow it back (it's never been past shoulder length) but I don't care. Wish me luck!
hows it going! did you reach your goal?
Your hair is goals!
+Nurture&Natural Hall 😘😘Thanks babe

Craving Curly Kinks i
So true about the salons. Everytime I go to a salon my hair gets damaged even more. So I’ve officially stopped going to them. Thanks for the really good advice.
+Terry-Ann Francis Yeah me too girl. It is always so depressing.
Summary: naturally moisturize your hair and let it be, with little or no interference.
+Anne Marie Chase Awesome! When you go natural you never go back 😋Happy growing
Welcome to the natural hair community - I have been natural for 13 years with WHL- enjoy the journey and stay positive with each step!! Enjoy!
Anne Marie Chase you can stay relaxed if you put your relaxer in properly & treat your hair properly cause if you go natural & don’t treat your hair properly it can result in a bad state also
She’s so cute. She look like a beautiful 4c barbie.
She is my hair aspirations. New subscriber!

Your hair give me so much life ! I swear you're beautiful
+EmmadLR And you are awesome. Thank you.
+Craving Curly Kinks Okay. you've answered all of my questions! Thank you!
Gorgeous hair and excellent tips!
+MyNaturalMyChoice I am so happy you find it useful.
+MyNaturalMyChoice Thank You. I am so happy you find it useful.😉
MyNaturalMyChoice 😂😂😂
Good advice - it would be helpful to share your usual protective styles. I also avoid hair salons 💇

So beautiful. I love the accent, hair, skin, bone structure. You look like a doll. 😍😍😍
Excellent insight! I'm amazed at how full and voluminous your hair is at this length! Thanks for the tips
+entiice ❤️
I never play with my hair. I just do twists or braids to leave it and undo it once in the week to moisturize again then shampoo and repeat.
Omg thank u. I just started getting this and your sooo right people well not take care of your hair like you...
Your so pretty and your hair is gorgeous love your personality great tips too
+Ashley Adams ❤️❤️😘
Ashley Adams Completely agree!
Beautiful hair. I lost all mine because of hair relaxer and dye for 30 years
+Jabou baa Awe sorry 😘
Craving Curly Kinks Also you debunk the myth about African women not being able to grow long hair.
You are such a beautiful person. Thanks for the advice, I already do many of these things but I need to be reminded!
Me too! I know all this stuff but sometimes a girl needs to be reminded! 😉
These tips are so true. I managed to grow my hair to a small length last year which I was quite pleased with. I braided it once last year in October for 5 weeks and it completely fell out. I have started all over again and am definitely not braiding it anymore for a few years
I've never seen hair like yours before or at your length it's amazinggggg
Kayla Flowers your hair can be as long if you treat it properly rather chemical or natural
Your message inspired me, thank You.😘
Hi Beautiful Lady your Hair is Gorgeous I had your Hair length 12 Year's Ago Got breast cancer Hair Cane out Now I'M Free of Chemicals... Perm free for 2 Year's I've Heard this Finger detangle and your Right I Just Need to have patience and take my Time.. I'M going To Do this Tip Ty Much 😁😁😁💖
Literally your rice water video started me on my natural hair love affair. I've now subscribed and I'm inspired to document my journey. Thank you💯😙
Beautiful hair and beautiful accent!
+Jo Fro 😘💓
Amen specially to Tip no. 8 which I figured out myself, thought i was too fussy and i always tell my friends who are on natural hair journey
+efhawkins19 💯 no political correctness 😀Keep on doing what is working for you, that this the goal.
efhawkins19 hot oil treatment every two week, protein once a month, show us how you style your hair, girl,
I'm wearing 6 twists in back, 2 on each side, twist on top as pic.
Girl I'm with u on that going to salons ,God I don't even know how many times I've walked out super disappointed watching the whole floor covered with ur hair the combs are covered with ur hair it's so heart breaking but not anymore I now know how to take care of my hair and the most annoying part is trying to direct them & they don't listen they do what they think they know ☹☹
Why am soo late To know about ur channel 😥😥😥🤗😊just subbed as soon as I saw ur hair...am just addicted to loong healthy natural hair ❤️❤️😅😁just go and watching all of ur videos ❤️😁thank you for the tips 😍beautiful long and healthy hair ❤️
+Sameera salah You are awesome.
I know right. RUclips be on that B.S. when in comes to showing new channels.
CaramelSista ❤️❤️😁
CaramelSista very true. RUclips be showing me channels I'm not even interested in.
Sameera salah Ikr me too lol
Your tips are best for natural hair. Go girl
You embody brains & beauty! Thanks for sharing. Senior citizen natural here.
Your hair is SOOOOOOO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL!!!!! SLAAAAYYYY BOOOO!!!!!
+Timetrae ❤️
Just FINALLY CUT MY HAIR to like an inch 😁 I’m genuinely happier like that hair that got off my head made me feel like a weight was lifted off of me , kinda weird . I’ll miss my longer hair but I feel way better with it short !!
Okay tip# 8 made me join. Omgah! Salons are not my happy place. New subbie baby! Yassss!❤❤👐🤝😉
Hey girl❤️❤️😍
Thank you for your tips. I follow a lot of these myself and now I have longer hair around the back and sides. Your hair looks so lovely. Unfortunately I lost a lot of hair on top due to chemo drugs but I love seeing the different natural curls I have and learning how to take care of my hair. I discovered that combing my hair while it's dry caused breakage - now I moisturize and have enough hair to cover over the top of my head and hide my hair loss. I'm glad now I don't have to wear wigs all the time!
The way you explain is super amazing!
+maria thomas Awesome! I am glad you enjoyed it.
+Nunya B Exactly you feel me girl.
Nunya B I agree
Excellent tips - Ive made a comment many times on FB & here to women to just Keep your natural hair routine simple - adding all these products in their hair is not cheap at all & is most likely just wasting their time.
Thanks for sharing great tips I love it
And you not the only one I mean no one around me cares about natural hair lol
+Jessica Jasmine lol I know right😘
Nice video, I'm starting an 8 month, 8 inch hair growth challenge, my goal, to do everything right and healthy for 8 months then check my length and see if I got my 8 inches.
Your hair is boom
+THE LAZY NATURAL You are awesome for watching
This is one of the best if not the best retention videos I have seen. To the point and helpful. Thank yoy😊
It's hard for me to leave my hair in low maintenance styles through the week. .
I love seeing natural hair gurus with 4c hair be it long or short! It always beautiful. Here I am and I don't know where to begin.
Your hair is gorgeous, and so are you! Thanks for sharing!!!
+Michelle E I am happy you found it useful.
+doThatGWalk yeah seriously products like those dry out my hair like crazy
Your so pretty and your hair is incredible!
Love your hair and love this video! Very informative. But I saw from the first pic that you grew your hair out from a short length. Could you give a tutorial or tips on how you grew out your hair from the shorter length, how you took care of it, your challenges, transition etc? Would be great.
Ghana represent!!! My hubby is Ghanaian and so our kids have Ghanaian blood:-)
+Maisha Addai Ghana in the house, that's what's up!😀😀 Seriously Ghana food is the best😋
Ghanaian here too
Craving Curly Kinks yes it is!
Ghanaians are so beautiful!
I dont care what anyone says Ghanians have the best head of hair. Im from Cameroon.
Here are some tips:
- Create a regimen that works with your lifestyle .
I always take them up a notch by adding extra ingredients to (honey, oils, Ayurvedic powders, rice water, etc)
- Trim or dust as needed.
Stunning thick and long hair!!💕 glad I found your channel! New subby!
+Beautiful Naturally Leah Hi there girl.
From another crazy naturalista I appreciate you and can listen to you talk about hair all day long.. no eye rolling here! 😉
