Sphinx of the Second Sun is working as intended. Its trigger occurs at the beginning of your post-combat main phase, and that trigger creates a beginning phase AFTER "this phase" (being your post-combat main phase). The way it works, and is intended to work, is that you get an untap, upkeep, and draw directly before your end phase. It would need to be an "end of combat" trigger in order to make that beginning phase happen before your second main phase.
@@jamescooley5241 I think it does some cool things. Can trigger things that care of about upkeep. Its also a shitty seedborn muse. Just because they didnt have reasons to be playing doesnt mean reason to play it dont exist.

On the discussion of old vs new border; I've been playing for over 20 years, but I actually hate the old border. And not just "the old border on new cards" like Richard. I actively think that the old borders LOOK BAD and date the cards/game. The new border is infinitely better. I frequently feel like I'm the only person who holds this view, though. Every show, podcast, and forum related to MTG that I've ever seen is full of people waxing nostalgic about the old border, where I couldn't be happier that it's gone.
I kind of agree. I can still lean toward Richard's view, but new borders are just cleaner. I can actually read the words from a distance instead of the horrible font on older stuff against a more chaotic background. I guess these people just like more of the frame art? I mean...why don't they like Either Edition then? And if you hate the white borders, how about Ninth Edition to M14?
I fully agree with you. I just think the new frames look far prettier and let us enjoy the cards awesome art instead of a very blocky and (in my view) ugly frame. But at the end of the day, beauty really is in the eye of the beholder
@@Graatand Not perse mono coloured. I'm just kinda tired of seeing 5 colour piles. You can make pretty much every strategy tick because you have the best support cards. 39:33 if you use Rite of Replication to make five copies of Scourge of Valkus you will end up dealing 180 damage! 😁 All five of the copies plus the original will all see five dragons entering the battlefield, so they will each trigger five times, that's 30 triggers dealing six damage each!

I think at this point Richard is so focused in that weird and inefficient Ognis combo that he legit forgot that you can just build this deck as a grand warlord radha deck that has black. Ognis works best at an aggro deck than whichever jank he was trying to pull, tbh.
but ognis is a bad attacker(worse then rada at least) you cant use the mana the same turn, and only works with haste creatures compared to working with everything.

Sphinx of the Second Sun used to be bugged when combined with Paradox Haze. When it cam out I played them in shrines and Sphinx triggered properly, after my 2nd main, it gave me a beginning phase but because the upkeep occurred twice, for some reason the game thought it was the actual beginning of the turn and went to my first main phase, allowing me to cast spells normally. Then the turn ended when I moved to combat. I tried it later when Go-Shintai came out and it seems to be fixed. Richard: have you thought about Urborg + Filth to make your creatures unblockable so Ognis can attack?
In response to the old border conversation. I'm a newer player and I like most of the old border card frames, bit I think mono red and gold cards look butt ugly in old border.
Yeah, they'll do ANOTHER drop based on the Wedges, each with 3 Shockland that has old border, and FUCK IT, also have the T tap because yes. My Sisay Shrines deck is a mixed bag when it comes to speed, it can win turn 4 sometimes, but also can get stuck and take forever to win, and since the deck had no space for interaction due to 11 (mostly bad) Shrines, the deck did manage to find space for a few ways to actually win. I was amused when I realized Zur can find both Sanctum Weaver and an untapping Enchantment, at which point you have infinite mana in a Sisay deck, and if you can't win that turn you're doing something wrong. AFAIK the issue is rushing Zur out, and everyone else figuring out 'just kill Zur?', at which point you're just digging out Shrines and the deck feels bad. Also, dealing damage via Shrines can be a hassle, the Sanctum of Shattered Heights can't target players, just creatures and planeswalkers. I feel like Sisay speeds the deck up a lot, but also makes you more of an archenemy. In Sisay you can (and probably should) run those clunky Group Hug ramp spells, so in my case I've got lots of basics, I guess Go-Shintai would just ramp and fix a bt and be satisfied, there isn't much point in helping everyone else to generate extra resources to get to WWUUBBRRGG or WWWUUUBBBRRRGGG, which Sisay is eager to hit (and wins super-quickly then). I think there is actually a Blue Anthem from back then, possibly more than one, that could buff your Camarids more than a single Homarid. You could also use Unstable Mutation with a well timed Homarid to get in some serious swings before sacrificing it right before it'd die anyways. It also would have worked as a combat trick back then, damage used the stack actually. As far as low-budget old school goes, mono-Blue Homarids aren't as bad as they sound.

“Dragon Tokens” lol
I'm with Phil on this. I loooove my cards a little rough around the edges.
This card says "Richard wins the game."
That can't stop me because I can't read.
I started with Ixalan and I'm 100% old bordered they have way more flavor and despite what you might think the art pop out more on old bordered.
Game 1 perfectly shows how Seth plays magic, with out thinking
Not sure on Seth's turn three here. I dont think he really needed the mana, and having Setessan Champion draw 2 cards on turn 4+ I feel like is way more massive in a Shrines deck.
rilakkuma
newer player, vastly prefer old bordered lands. there's just something about it that is so nice. my favorite set basics are invasion.
Deathbringer regent I think
What a punt lolol
Is Richard Canadian? I thought he lived in California? Or do y'all call the American $1 coins (which is a thing that exists but is NOT common in the states as far as I know) loonies as well?
He grew up in Canada
@@MTGGoldfishCommander Cool, didn't realize the fish crew had that much Canadian blood 🍁🏒
"Third times the charm" fourth attempt 😁
Insta clicked for shrines and ur dragon.
omg, if never fails. I hate watching Seth play decks I like. “Maybe Shrines are just too fair” is a statement uttered by NO ONE who is a good Shrine player or played against a good Shrine player. Even if Seth doesn’t play the deck well, fine. But don’t sit there and dog a really good deck because your not good with it. At this point, I would like them to play a week where every deck Seth complained about while play it, is played by the others and let him see how good they do with them.
One of my friends absolutely HATES Shrines. That’s why I made one :)
Phil's opener game one was obscene, so I just skipped to game 2
Big agree, turn 3 walking sponge is way too strong
sell the plushies!
ottawa soaring city
Give me white border!
Another lame Tomer win with the dumb Ur Dragon deck, who could have predicted.
I really don't understand the appeal of old border... it's just... ugly...
Please house ban sol ring
Seth: has heroic intervention to survive the final turn. Decides to die instead. ???
Heroic Intervention is good at saving permanents, but it doesn't protect your face :(
Saying clash on is a privilege not a punishment.
border discussions are wierd, it shouldn't matter one way or the other.
I don't like white borders.....
I really dislike Tomer's deck. It's just 5 color good stuff, and 5c good stuff is one of the things I believe to be wrong with the format in my opinion. This is why Golos got banned: No reason not to play him.
Are 5 color dragons really 5 color good stuff tho?
My intent wasn't to bring a Goodstuff deck. My deck was a tokens deck that turned the tokens into Dragons and then specifically use Go Wide Dragon strategy.
Nintendo please DMCA that cringe brawl intro please. No hate on commander clash I just hate that intro so much.
And I love it. Every pot has a lid.
Not only do i love it, but i think that brawl intro is public domain now.
