Nice video. This was a much needed one for the shiny hunting community, in my opinion. ShinyCollector98, I really do commend you for making this video. Also I am really excited for it too. The reason is that back in 2008-2009 I've came up with this theory and even written a guide to easily get a shiny. But since I was only 14 and didn't think anyone would be interested in an old version of Pokémon, I jus tossed the notes into my collection/personal notes pile. I want to thank you for proving this (even if its years later). For now any thing I come up with I'll share instead of keeping it a secret. I also hope you do well in all future endeavors. Keep up the good work.
Icon Gone Solo actually I didn't prove that it was broken, that's been proven for many years. I just proved that it shouldn't be feared to hunt in Emerald
The bit about the battle recorder is news to me, very interesting. Has this been proven? Also, I thought it might be helpful to note that keeping your gameboy on for as long as possible while random encountering (keeping it plugged in even when not hunting) helps to keep the odds a bit more consistent. Most people probably only hunt for an hour or two a day, which, in theory, would restrict you to 25-50 shiny frames. Of course, you could potentially have even fewer to work with during the first 1-2 hour interval. Jumping around those same frames every hunting session is limiting in that access to shiny frames past those bounds is prevented. Think of it like this: A particular file may only contain 20 shiny frames within the first 2 hours, but a cumulative 80 within the first 4. The odds would be much lower within the 2 hour interval (1/21,600) than within all 4 hours (1/10,800). You can never know for sure how bountiful in shiny frames your spread is within any given interval of time (unless you use RNG Reporter which would defeat the purpose), so it's better to be safe than sorry. So yeah, the longer your game is on, the more natural your chances will be.
A different pokemon youtuber/shiny hunter told me about the battle recorder exploit and used a program to show the actually frame and how it skips, but I haven't seen anyone hunt using it successfully. Yeah this does make sense, but 20 frames isn't bad, and the frames might only be 1/21,600 if divided like that, but it's still technically 1/8192 just poor luck when generating in that fram (not necessarily explaining this for you, but for others that might read this and get confused) but likewise leaving it on for a bit might give you a worse span for frames, I guess really the best bet would be to vary back and forth between leaving it on and going from the start every now and again. Good insight though, definitely a good point to think about.
So I just got a shiny tentacool 30min into hunting for a feebas, my Emeralds battery is dry, so basically with my rng I just need to stay encountering the same patch of grass until one pops up?
Thank you for the information about such common misconceptions! I, personally, had backed away from Emerald hunting because I never knew about the shiny frames frequenting every 3 or so minutes like you mentioned. I definitely look forward to getting into Emerald again to give hunting there a try!
Great video man. Been k/o ing linoones nonestop and not beimg able to understand the rng and how it worked gave me real bad hopes. So, odds do still repeat and do not just happen within a certain time window of leaving the game on if i am understanding your explanatiom fully.
I don’t fully get how you’re trying to word it, you lost me. Frames wouldn’t repeat unless you turn it off/on, but even if you do, it’s not likely you’d hit many repeats. Each frame is 1/60 of a second, so hitting the same ones accidentally would be rare
The way I think about it is, you want to try to play for longer periods of time if possible and vary the windows of time you play from after the game loads. You’re more likely to hit repeat frames if you, say, play for only 5 minutes every time, since you’ll only have that range of frames to hit
This video is still confusing. I've been soft resetting for a Shiny Groudon in Ruby for two weeks now on a dry battery. I did some test catches and found that it has different natures and IVs each time. So does that mean I can still find a Shiny, or have I been wasting my time?
You’ve been wasting time. A few might have different stats because frames are on 1/60 of a second intervals. However, you’ll at most find the same one or two hundred Groudon, and will most likely not have a shiny frame within those 100-200
3:32 "Everything as of yet said also applies to pokemon ruby and sapphire with a dead internal battery". So this means that if ruby and sapphire didn't have a dead internal battery it would be like any other game? Also, if I were to have a pokemon emerald gave without a dead internal battery, would it be any different from the things in the video?
Emerald, regardless of battery life, acts like this And more or less yes about ruby/sapphire. A lot of the games have their own unique RNG, but yeah it’s not “broken” if they have a live battery for R/S.
Honestly for RS it’s much better to just change the battery or get it changed. Most tech stores such as Best Buy, RadioShack and more will replace it for you for just the cost of the battery
I'm soooo confused. I've been hunting for a shiny mudkip starter by soft resetting and have already gotten 11 shiny poochyenas yet no mudkip.... is there a mistake I'm making and that I have no chance to get it with my current framed or am I just really unlucky? plz help me. is there a way to calculate it?
Yes you can get it. Because you're seeing mudkip I assume you're hunting in Ruby/Sapphire rather than Emerald. Is the battery dead or alive? If it's alive you're just very unlucky. If it's dead you're literally 1 frame of all of those times from getting your shiny starter. So you aren't doing anything wrong and either way, yes you can get the shiny. Best of luck, hope this eloped but if you're still confused please tell which part(s) you need clarification on.
ShinyCollector98 thank you for replying. the internal battery is dead. but can u help me understand something? if I keep on getting one frame off, how long would I have to wait or be ahead to make sure it won't end up a poochyena? if that's not what needs to be done, am I just being really unlucky?
CrappyDuelist 5 15 20 you literally only needed to be 1/60th of a second faster. So that's not much to be off by, not much that you can really try to make a difference, keep going at the pace you are and you will end up getting the starter when you accidentally go 1/60th faster
ShinyCollector98 thank you. it'll be my first time having a shiny as my starter and I had no idea how tough it is with the RNG broken. thx for your help!
Does anyone have a guess as to why they made Emerald this way? Was it just an oversight or did they want to put less strain on the battery or something?
Thanks for a nice video on this! I'm sure it'll help a lot of hunters. I personally don't wish to hunt in Emerald cus the game is so expensive now but I know several people still want to.
Yep! A dry battery in R/S makes the RNG behave like Emerald’s. So as long as you selected the starter quickly and had a dry battery when you got the shiny, then you have an early shiny frame, which can be used for SR’ing other targets
Important Info I feel this video didn't point out: Soft reseting does not reset your frame count. To reset your frames completely to the beginning, you must Hard reset. (shut down your GBA) Frames start counting down as soon as you start the game up. (meaning frames are counting in the title screen) For random encounters, certain shiny frames only work with specific pokemon, using something called "Encounter slots." Example: If Duskull is in Encounter slot 1, and Shuppet is in Encounter slot 2, and the shiny frame is linked with Encounter slot 2, then you can only find a shiny Shuppet on that specific frame. In order to get a shiny Duskull, you'd have to find a different shiny frame that is linked with Encounter slot 1. In every area of the game where you can find Pokemon, there are exactly 18 encounter slots, even in an area like Mt. Pyre that only has 2 Pokemon.
Is this the reason why even though I had an everstone on a jolly nature seedot in the daycare, not a single jolly nature seedot was hatched even though it's supposed to be a 50% chance to get jolly on the baby seedot?
I'm currently going after mew (RA's) even after doing a bunch of research on this subject, and watching the video, I'm still confused about the frames. and I know the answer is right in front of me, but I'm still lost. do the frames reset each time you turn the game on and off and save?
Zack Kazyak frames are just time markers. 1/60th of a second is how long a frame is. Same thing with videos as you've probably heard more often (60 fps) it means sixty frames per second so 1/60th of a second is one frame. Just a time marker for us. The seed starts at a constant, 0. And then the seed moves up per each frame, frame 1 is 0, frame 2 is 1, and so on. If the other factors in the formula are the same, the only variable is the seed, which is a constant based on time. So the seed does change, but the formula in the end is the same. The same factors stay. The factors will only change once you start a new game then ID and Secret ID in the formula change from the previous game file, however throughout the new games whole play through they stay constant to the new formula. So the seed does change the farther into the game you play, but when you start up the game next time, it'll start from the same starting point.
I have a Ruby with a dead internal battery and I have been shiny hunting for a starter, I now know about this broken rng so I won't waste any more time. If I wanted this shiny indefinitely how would I do it? Make a new saved file, encounter 50 torchic and then delete and make a new file? then keep repeating that? So essentially do 50 SR's then make a new file, 50 SR's then make a new file etc etc
I found my secret ID so I'm using a synchronize pokemon to find shiny and it works. I don't understand if the pokemon that I encounter at the specific "early shiny frame" can change or not.
im doing the method where you run from a legendary, im doing rayquaza and i feel like it will never happen because i havnt seen a shiny in all my 27 hours in and emerald is broken
I found a completely random shiny geodude last night on emerald on my gba sp! I think that’s only the second or third shiny in my life. Pretty sure I’ve encountered other shinies throughout the years but I probably accidentally killed them
So I’m safe to hunt for a shiny duskull through egg hatching right? I’m just looking for some sort of validation because all these videos have me hesitant about continuing my hunt.
Hi, I replaced the dry battery from my zapphire game, does this now mean that it's back to normal? Or is it once the battery has run dry once the shiny hunting will be affected forever? I want a shiny Beldum :c
I was trying to get a shiny roselia from the daycare with a shiny ditto, but if this video its telling the true, there's not a chance to get a shiny roselia? plx help
WobbuffetBoy that's not at all true. You can hatch shinies in Emerald, basically what this video says is you just can't soft reset shinies in Emerald. I recommend stocking 3 or more boxes full of eggs before turning off the game. Then save with the eggs and hatch them at leisure. Repeat this until you get it as a shiny
WobbuffetBoy but your odds are 1/8192. For Rosalia it's much faster if you random encounter. Having a shiny parent won't affect it in the slightest. And keep in mind this video is only applicable to emerald (and Ruby Sapphire if they have a dead battery), not any other game
Da Chef no, In Emerald you can never soft reset unless you do the starters like I said, or the battle video like I said. In Ruby and Sapphire you can normally soft reset, but not with a dry battery
ShinyCollector98 Sorry about saying RE. I am planning on hunting raquaza and wanted to ensure I wasn't going to waste time. I wasn't sure if a RA was the same as the RE! Thanks for all of your help!
so, emerald, even with a working battery, has a seed of 0, and ruby and sapphire with a dead battery have a seed of 0? and only ruby and sapphire with working batteries have changing seeds?
The initial seed in R/S with a dead battery isn’t 0, it’s 5A0, but yes it’s a consistent initial seed. Works the same though, you have it down in concept!
I’m trying to get a shiny Mudkip in emerald. So to get it I need to SR 50 times, then make a new save file but then what do I do after with that save file ?
Correct, you cannot get it with a dry battery and soft resets. And unfortunately, they don’t respawn in RS like they do in Emerald, so you cannot do runaways either. You’d have to change the battery and then do soft resets, thankfully it’s fairly easy and there are many guides for it on YT, I’m sure you can find one easily :)
Wait, so I'm shiny hunting Mew in an Emerald emulator (through RAs) and haven't found a shiny throughout the rest of the game. does this mean it's impossible to get a shiny mew (considering I don't know the shiny frame)?
@@shinycollector sorry i watched it before but couldn’t remember! Was hoping someone would just lmk 😆 I didn’t know it before and was soft resetting for Latias, i got really lucky 😂
So this Problem Effects also Natures and IV ? I habe been breeding for a Jolly Sceptile, and I seem to get always alot of of the Same Natures but after 5 Boxes not a single Jolly one. Might this be the reason or am i just unlucky?
you are just unlucky. if you stock up about 2 or 3 boxes without turning the game off, then you can save and turn it off at your leisure and hatch them, you should definitely have the right nature by then, unless one of the parents is holding the everstone.
Hi there question I've had for a while if I reset my pokemon games with new save files each reset as emerald has a fixed seed and then my pokemon ruby and pokemon sapphire both have dry batteries also resulting in fixed seed if I just start a brand new game each individual reset will that be something that would prevent me from running into the same frames as its a new individual save file each time?
I’m gonna keep it a stack, I can barely understand what you’re asking. Initial seed is a constant in Emerald as well as Dead Battery R/S. New save won’t change your seed, but it’ll change your TID & SID giving you different PID rolls
Hello, I want to shiny hunt trapinch in pokemon emerald via random encounters. I also want to attempt to synchronize adamant onto it. Ok so, just to understand the video a bit more, if I were to shiny hunt a treeko and SR 50 times, and make a new save files, it pretty much randomizes the chances of me getting a shiny ya? Like it changes the numbers and such And if I find a shiny zigzagoon, that file I save and keep SR'ing over and over again til I get my shiny starter?
@@shinycollector O alr thank u And I got one more question if u don’t mind, and that is, do u HAVE to reset the save file back to the beginning or can u shut ur ds off and turn it back on?
I'm playing Emerald on an emulator on my phone and it says the internal battery has run dry. Does this affect my chances of encountering shinies or something? Btw im not a shiny hunter
Apologies if you answered this before, but I have a question. I would love to hunt for say... Shiny Groudon in Emerald. Obviously, I wouldn't SR over it, since (if I understand this correctly), I'd still have to delete the save every 50 SRs or so, which would be too insane. However, the method I've been doing is encountering Groudon, running away, leaving his cave, coming back in, and repeating that - you know, the Run Away method. With this method, shiny Groudon IS possible, right? I'm not wasting my time?
VGE yes, you are 100% correct. Soft resetting would be mind numbingly painful because you would either do that, or more towards the end the thing I said about the battle video, but the battle video isn't tested yet. So yes, if you run away and come back, more frames pass in that time so it is more likely to find it. If you do that for a while to no avail, (like 5 or 6 thousand times, not in a row though) then consider leaving the game on for an hour or two before you start hunting. Hope this helped and good luck! Groupon is an amazing shiny!
I shall seriously consider continuing that hunt on Emerald, then! I might dual hunt it with Soul Silver, but now I wanna get a third gen shiny Groudon even more now!
I'm really confused. So I want to find shinies in the wild. Could I soft reset for those.. or do I just keep going through encounters? I dont know what to do..

I didn't see this anywhere in the comments, so I wanted to see if you knew, can you hunt eggs? I was planning on using my Emerald for the ISHC full odds egg gimmick, but I have no idea if that works or not.
SherryBomb it does work, but I recommend stocking up about 3 boxes minimum (you can stock more) without turning off the game, then you can save and hatch/turn it off at your leisure. Once you're done if no shiny then repeat it by stocking more boxes
you said this applies to ruby and sapphire as well if their battery has run out? so I can't random encounter in ruby/sapphire without reseting every 50 encounters?

BottleRocket13 best of luck! And yeah until I thought about how often the frames occur I've been iffy about hunting in emerald as well
Thank you and best of luck on your hunting, as well! Thank you for hosting this upcoming ISHC, as well! Looking forward to it!
BottleRocket13 so am I, I'm excited!
See, Emerald isn't a scary place to hunt ... gosh guys. -_- Oh, wait! I was one of those scary hunters too. LOL Thanks for clearing things up LJ.
Thy Foamy no problem, it was a lot of fun to make, and will do! Thanks Foamy!
Emerald, regardless of battery life, acts like this
And more or less yes about ruby/sapphire. A lot of the games have their own unique RNG, but yeah it’s not “broken” if they have a live battery for R/S.
I was playing though emerald again and I went to cut though some grass to avoid some trainers and the first Pokemon I ran into was a shiny numel
joe parks that's awesome! Numel has a great shiny sprite!!!
Thank you so much! I've been unable to find any information on hunting R/S with a dead battery so this was really good to explain everything :)
Honestly for RS it’s much better to just change the battery or get it changed. Most tech stores such as Best Buy, RadioShack and more will replace it for you for just the cost of the battery
@@shinycollector ok, thank you so much for the advice!
DANMIT SUNKERN IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT
when i record a shiny encounter battle and then over and over i would get every time im in this frame a shiny right
Yes, the same frame gives a shiny every time. But this is hard to do unless you try to hit the same frame.
*helped
Not eloped.
SH- Clockwork yeah it's definitely expensive, around 35 on average. Thanks for the compliment :D
if i have a dead internal battery in ruby and i got a shiny starter can i SR for the legendary or is there something i need to do?
Yep! A dry battery in R/S makes the RNG behave like Emerald’s. So as long as you selected the starter quickly and had a dry battery when you got the shiny, then you have an early shiny frame, which can be used for SR’ing other targets
I played through emerald 3 times and never found a shiny and i basically still havent found one
I did not even know that this was a thing on Pokemon Emerald. Please make more and keep up the good work :)
Xavier Eger a lot of people don't know it's a thing, and try to SR Pokemon and can't, glad I could help 😁
Important Info I feel this video didn't point out:
Soft reseting does not reset your frame count. To reset your frames completely to the beginning, you must Hard reset. (shut down your GBA)
Frames start counting down as soon as you start the game up. (meaning frames are counting in the title screen)
For random encounters, certain shiny frames only work with specific pokemon, using something called "Encounter slots."
Example:
If Duskull is in Encounter slot 1, and Shuppet is in Encounter slot 2, and the shiny frame is linked with Encounter slot 2, then you can only find a shiny Shuppet on that specific frame.
Nah
I'm currently going after mew (RA's) even after doing a bunch of research on this subject, and watching the video, I'm still confused about the frames. and I know the answer is right in front of me, but I'm still lost. do the frames reset each time you turn the game on and off and save?
Zack Kazyak no, each time you turn it on, it starts from the same frame as the previous time regardless of saving.
Zack Kazyak the only thing that would make the frames start different is starting a new game
ShinyCollector98 thanks man! so basically the only thing that changes is the seed correct?
ShinyCollector98 gotcha, thanks for the help!!
got my first shiny after like 20 years of playing, maybe we saw one as a kid but hyped! thank you!
Damn my ruby's battery is dry... oh well, at least I can do Random encounters
If I receive an egg on a shiny frame, is that egg shiny when it hatches?
I believe shininess is generated when the daycare man gets the egg
I found my secret ID so I'm using a synchronize pokemon to find shiny and it works. I don't understand if the pokemon that I encounter at the specific "early shiny frame" can change or not.
So that shiny zigzagoon I caught meant I could have had a shiny starter if i went through it at a slightly different speed?
If it was one you caught and now the uncatchable one, no
What if your copy of Emerald has a dead internal battery? Does that change any of this at all?
Gilbert Bends doesn't change any of this for Emerald
im doing the method where you run from a legendary, im doing rayquaza and i feel like it will never happen because i havnt seen a shiny in all my 27 hours in and emerald is broken
It’s 1/8192, it’ll take a while
I found a completely random shiny geodude last night on emerald on my gba sp! I think that’s only the second or third shiny in my life. Pretty sure I’ve encountered other shinies throughout the years but I probably accidentally killed them
That’s dope, congrats on the Geodude!
So I’m safe to hunt for a shiny duskull through egg hatching right? I’m just looking for some sort of validation because all these videos have me hesitant about continuing my hunt.
Ye, you’d be fine
Hi, I replaced the dry battery from my zapphire game, does this now mean that it's back to normal? Or is it once the battery has run dry once the shiny hunting will be affected forever? I want a shiny Beldum :c
Starchy AT in sapphire replacing the battery should make it back to normal, good luck on Beldum!
I found a shiny zigzagoon early and made a save file during the fight and caught him but i dont understand any of this lol
I got a shiny rayquaza on my 2nd soft reset in emerald. I was playing on an emulator so idk if that changes anything.
You got lucky and have an early shiny frame, most of the time people won’t have one until a minute or so in at least
Can you soft reset if your game doesn't have a workin internal battery. It says after that click. Based events won't happen. Thanks.
Da Chef no, In Emerald you can never soft reset unless you do the starters like I said, or the battle video like I said. In Ruby and Sapphire you can normally soft reset, but not with a dry battery
ShinyCollector98 Can you still find shinies by random encounters and run aways?
Da Chef okay now I know you're just messing with me because I spend the whole video explaining that one.

I play Pokemon Ruby with a Dry Battery, i want to shinyhunt groudon, so i cant get it with the dry battery with soft resets?
Correct, you cannot get it with a dry battery and soft resets.
And unfortunately, they don’t respawn in RS like they do in Emerald, so you cannot do runaways either.
You’d have to change the battery and then do soft resets, thankfully it’s fairly easy and there are many guides for it on YT, I’m sure you can find one easily :)
Wait, so I'm shiny hunting Mew in an Emerald emulator (through RAs) and haven't found a shiny throughout the rest of the game. does this mean it's impossible to get a shiny mew (considering I don't know the shiny frame)?
Yes
Does dead battery ruby and sapphire have this problem?

So basically the frame starts at 0 everytime I turn on the game and I have the chance to find a shiny every 2.5-3 minutes?
So this Problem Effects also Natures and IV ? I habe been breeding for a Jolly Sceptile, and I seem to get always alot of of the Same Natures but after 5 Boxes not a single Jolly one. Might this be the reason or am i just unlucky?
you are just unlucky. if you stock up about 2 or 3 boxes without turning the game off, then you can save and turn it off at your leisure and hatch them, you should definitely have the right nature by then, unless one of the parents is holding the everstone.
@@shinycollector if I synchronize for a naughty nature while breeding will I never find a shiny unless I have a naughty shiny frame?

I have read you are free to random encounter and not worry about shiny frames but I'm not sure about synchronizing. Should I bother trying to synchronize adamant onto a random encounter shiny or not? @@carsonschill1635 thx a lot. I think that is right. I havnt noticed my
Berries growing.
