@ThedomiNation In ShinyCollector's gen 1 video from 4 years ago, he lists that *_legendaries, gift pokemon, fishing encounters, in-game trades, and glitch pokemon_* can be shiny hunted in gen 1. Your video doesn't mention that despite your gift dratini gen1.
Has that changed since his or your video for whatever reason?

@@hisaceinthehole3426 6:35 my video does mention this. I didn’t speak about the npc trades but I put it in text in the video at the same time I’m mentioning what Pokémon can be shiny in gen 1. Thanks so much in general too, I only really got into shiny hunting a couple years ago and majorly over the past year, and your vids have been a major source of inspiration, encouragement, and useful info. I've learned a lot from you! My first and most treasured Shiny still is my Azumarill from gen 3 Sapphire, which I just happened on randomly as a Marill while in a movie theater. It was dark and i had missed the shiny flash, it looked slightly different from usual so I just took a chance and chucked a ball at it. The Skill Swap/Trick method in USUM can be done even better by having a Harvest Trevenant with both moves and a Leppa berry, so that you don't need to split up the task between two Pokémon. It's what I use in USUM for my shiny hunts for legendary Pokémon. I then switch out to Primal Groudon to get permanent sun that will guarantee the activation of Harvest. That, and having a Synchronizing Pokémon out in front that can use Thunder Wave turn 1, followed by a Pokémon with False Swipe to whittle down the shinies' HP, makes for a very strong shiny hunting team in USUM!

I am what I'd consider to be a master of the Gen 4 Poke Radar with what is nearing 3 boxes of the possible 8 boxes worth of unique shinies available in Gen 4 and while it wasnt perfect, the Gen 4 Poke Radar section was beautifully explained and remarkably in depth
It goes into detail on many aspects people dont mention in other tutorials such as:
- Aggressive grass having the poke radar exclusive pokemon
- The exact percentages of grass patches
- Catching pokemon adds a flat 10% to whatever grass patch you go into being the correct species
- Mentioning and explaining that shinies are guaranteed to continue your chain and a ton of other advice which was very impressive
Particularly mentioning the superstition of 4, 4 / 0, 4 / 4, 0 having higher odds of breaking your chain and using the bike breaks your chain was amazing to see mentioned
I believe that its likely true but so unbelievably minor that you should not bother avoiding those patches ever
There were a few things that were left unexplained:
- How edge patches break the chain
- Why walking a certain distance breaks your chain
- How objects with grass tiles affect your chain
For example an npc on the first route or the sign in the post game island route beneath stark mountain
I will explain what wasn't to the best of my ability in the replies to this comment
I really wish this was filmed with a capture card with crisp footage so itd be easier to see the grass patches but otherwise everything unmentioned wasnt essential just something curious players will be thinking about
So take it from a pro, you did a fantastic job!!!

< EDGE PATCHES >
Afaik, if you are on an edge with, let's say, 3 patches missing in the first ring around you
There is a 3/8 chance for your chain to break from no grass patches spawning
This means:
- Corner patches are generally a 5/8 chance to break your chain
- Edge patches are generally a 3/8 chance to break your chain
- The patch you made an example of at 31:35 is a 1/8 chance to break your chain, making it usable on lower chains if you're willing to take the risk
- Shiny patches on the edge are still likely to break chains and do not affect the odds of continuing the chain beyond guaranteeing the correct pokemon
I am unsure as to how reseting nearby another seperate patch of grass works with edge resets but grass patches do not need to be in touching to spawn shaking grass tiles
Theoretically, a singular grass tile with no grass around it in a ring surrounded by grass tiles everywhere else on screen may have a 100% chance of breaking your chain which i believe there is one somewhere in sinnoh but i will need to test that myself, its probably more complex than that

• @empolethetaco2450
@empolethetaco2450 11 месяцев назад

< CHAIN BREAKS >
Your chain will break if:
- The console is turned off
- The game is soft reseted
- The grass patch didnt result in the pokemon that begun the chain
- The radar was reset on the edge by either manually reseting on the edge or entering a shaking grass patch on the edge
- The player moves to a different area, whether in a building or a different route without a loading zone
- You move any grass patch off screen in any way
I'd like to note for this one specifically how to avoid it
Generally staying within a 5 x 5 or even a 6 x 6 grid of where you last reset the poke radar will never break your chain
If every grass patch is in a line directly to the left of the player, then moving more than 4 tiles to the right will break your chain
Hypothetically, if the four patches are as close to you as possible diagonally, then you would have the most distance possible to move away from the chain
This is something you need to get a feel for
It comes with experience

< MISCELLANEOUS THINGS FOR WEIRDOS LIKE ME >
Any object that can not overlap with the grass tile is considered a wall tile and, as a result, make any grass patches neighbouring it in a ring an edge tile
Examples include:
- Trees
- Ledges
- Any tiles that would be considered map tiles
Objects capable of overlapping with grass tiles will not function as edge tiles
These include
- All Npcs
- The sign on the sign on the route below stark mountain

I like dexnav method in oras as a meditative time skip, and I believe that the main factor to increase your chance to find a shiny is your search level, and 50'th encounter just boosts your chance that is based on your search level, and 100'th boosts it even more. So if, lets say, you have search level 999, then every encounter 1-49 and 51-99 will have same chances to find shiny. It's hard to chain 5+ in a cave, so I just purposely break my chain at this point and start from the beginning.

Small tip for the PokeRadar in Gen 4:
On the app that keeps track of your chains, keep an eye on the top number counting your mon BEFORE you go into a patch. You will know right away if your chain breaks because the count will disappear before the mon shows up.
EDIT: you can actually see it at 37:23 before the Bidoof breaks it. Look at the top of the bottom screen of the DS.

• @ThedomiNATION
@ThedomiNATION  Год назад +2

Yep! But I hate looking at the bottom screen for it to spoil the result! I swear I never look at it and it keeps the chain and the one time I look at it, I see the current chain go away 😂

Great video, thank you.
One note regarding pokeradar chaining since there are so many misconceptions around this method as you have pointed out. I have done a couple hunts with it recently and there is also a very good guide on Smogon.
Going for an edge piece does not have an inherent risk of just breaking your chain - the risk involved (when picturing the grid around the player character), is that after catching the pokemon the pokeradar choses 4 patches that are all outside of the current gras field. You can for example never be "too close to the edge" as was suggested in the video. Having even one patch of buffer around you will GUARANTEE that at least one patch will shake after the catch because the pokeradar will always chose a patch for 1 tile aways/2 tiles away/3 tiles away and 4 tiles away respectively.
Given that resetting the radar reduces the chance of keeping your chain from 98 to 88 percent, I usually found it worthwhile just going for the edge piece if it was 4 tiles away. And after c. 20 shinies I don't think that I ever had my chain break after taking the edge patch (thats lucky in itself, but still). One can always roughly calculate how high the chance of breaking the chain is based on the position of the player character. For example, on a corner patch the chance of having all new patches outside the gras area is higher than on an edge patch in the middle of the gras.

Trevenant has the hidden ability Harvest and can learn Trick & Skill Swap from TRs in SwSh (as well as from move tutors in USUM), making it the ideal Pokémon for this strat
However, keep in mind that Skill Swap doesn't work on Pokémon with certain abilities (check Serebii for a full list), making it necessary to have a Pokémon holding a Leppa berry use Fling + Recover, as well as finding a way to heal the opposing Pokémon from the small amount of Fling damage, e.g. Heal Pulse

58:05
Important note: KOing a Pokémon gives the next random spawn a greater than 50% chance of being the same species as the KOed Pokémon, making it viable to continue KOing low spawn rate Pokémon, even past 500
The reason I say greater than 50% is because it varies based on the Pokémon's original spawn rate. The game divides in half the rate of all Pokémon for that area, & gives one half to the Pokémon you've just KOed. That way, KOing a Pokémon with a 1% spawn chance has a 50.5% chance of being the next spawn, but KOing a Pokémon with a 50% spawn chance would have a 75% chance of being the next spawn.

To add on to the broken RNG from R/S/E if you want a way to randomize your seed interact with one of the paintings at the Lilycove contest hall. It will reseed your game to the current hex value of your frame. ie: frame 10 would reseed to 000A. So, just get into a random fight then run or beat it then talk to the painting.

Unfortunately if you do that and then soft reset your game, it’ll still go back to the usual frames. So I mean it could work if you really wanted to for random encounters or right before recording a battle video, but it wouldn’t make much of a difference for soft resets

I think my personal favourite hunt was Bruxish, where I restricted myself to fishing in USUM on Christmas Eve and Christmas day only. I wanted the Pokemon with a caught on 24th/25th of December. It took me about four years to finish that hunt, du ti the pretty limited time I had to hunt (my cousin's birthday is on Chrimas Eve and while I do have more tome on Christmas itself, I would still not be able to shiny hunt for more than 2-3 hours that day).
My favourtie shiny over all must be a Tentacruel I got in USUM as well. I searched for Tentacruel since Gen 2 (2001), but it somehow never showed up, despite the line being one of the most commen pokemon in existence and me almost never using repels. Yet when I took up USUM to move from where I left the game to a spot to catch Bruxish the very first encounter on that day was a shiny Tenatcruel. Love her.
Oh, and I once resetted for a Shiny Rayquaza in Emerald, long before GameFreak decided to hand this specific shiny out left and right. I'm still pissed to this day whenever there's a new distribution of that black dragon, because I kid you not, they started thos not even half a year after I finished my hunt. -.-

Something for Gen 4… there’s trade Pokémon that are coded to have different languages of origin and you can breed them for Masuda Method hunts, the Magikarp that the guy who upgrades your dex will trade you in the Sinnoh games and Lt Surge’s French Pikachu in HGSS. In Diamond and Pearl ONLY, all the in game trades (except the German Magikarp) are functionally Japanese, meaning they are also usable for this, the Abra and Haunter are the only males so the only ones that you can use to get other Pokémon. (Source: Bulbapedia and a couple other places, but different places will say different things. I’d say Bulbapedia is reliable, because they also mention specifically if you trade the Diamond and Pearl in game trades to Platinum or HGSS you can get the Japanese Pokédex entries for those Pokémon, which is true)

Something else about Gen 2 egg hunting, you can check the shininess before they even hatch. Look up Tama Hero's "Pokemon Stadium 2 Shiny Hunting" video for more information. But basically the way Pokemon change color in the stadium games allows you to find shiny eggs that are a different color and you can even find the exact shade your eggs are supposed to be.

In gen 2, the odds of hatching a shiny with a parent in the shiny family can go from 1/128 to 1/64 depending on the gender ratio of the species, since the baby inherits from the opposite gender parent. In your example of Ekans and the shiny Gyarados, the odd of getting a female Ekans is 1/2, so you halve the 1/64 chances. I am currently hunting a shiny Eevee in crystal and have the full 1/64 odds since the mother is in the shiny family, so all the male Eevees have the potential of being shiny.

• @ThedomiNATION
@ThedomiNATION  11 месяцев назад

Are you referring creating a save state in like an emulator or just saving your game after hunting? I think creating a save state on your emulator can cause you to hit similar frames and could potentially make finding the shiny harder. If you properly save the game and turn your game off, upon reloading it, the game should randomly assign a new seed and you will for sure get new frames. Same goes for if you just not save and turn your game off then back on next time! This does not apply to emerald though or Ruby/Sapphire with a dead battery but if you’re doing random encounters in those games anyway, it shouldn’t matter as you’re very unlikely to hit similar frames if you aren’t doing a soft reset hunt!
Hopefully this helps! It’s kind of a confusing concept to explain in a message lol

@@bloorazor yeah I’m actually really unsure I haven’t seen any reports for anything other than hitmontop as hitmontop specifically has some extra coding quirks. The way shinies work in colosseum is they are supposed to be locked like any other trainer battle Pokémon, but upon catching the Pokémon, it rerolls the values and they forgot to put a shiny lock for your character. So you can get the shadow shiny but the trainer cannot. The only exception I’ve seen anywhere for this is the shadow hitmontop, as both you and the trainer can get it shiny, if the trainer gets it shiny, it technically can stay but that would be like getting a back to back full odds shiny which is about a 1/67,000,000 chance so it will most likely revert back to a non shiny upon capture. Thats funny u picked ekans as the pokemon to breed shiny gryrados with for your graphic because I actually did that exact hunt. Despite the low odds it was dreadful compared to new gens streamlined mechanics. I got it but it was female so it was useless to breed with. Not that i woulda suffered through that again anyways… new gens made it so much easier

No it isn’t. That was misinformation spread around years ago as no one knew the actual odds and just predicted them until they were actually found recently. I made sure to do a lot of research before making this video to avoid spreading further misinformation

What are the odds of finding shiny when you do escort missions in gen 4? Lower than 3500?

• @ThedomiNATION
@ThedomiNATION  Год назад

Are you talking about having an npc trainer with you like Cheryl or buck? The shiny odds remain the same being 1/8192 (or 1/4096 if it’s BDSP). You just get 2 encounters at once instead of 1

• @CodPatrol
@CodPatrol Год назад

@@ThedomiNATION Ok but the odds are 4000 considering there is two of them? Much quicker to find a shiny this way? Two at once must make the odds more likely than 8000, surely?

• @ThedomiNATION
@ThedomiNATION  Год назад

@@CodPatrol No. The odds remain 1/8192 for each shiny. You just get the encounters faster. Your probability of finding a shiny increases with the increased encounter rate but having 2 Pokémon vs 1 doesn’t magically give each Pokémon a higher shiny rate. With that logic, then getting 8192 encounters would make the odds 1/1 meaning it’s guaranteed which that is far from the case

• @CodPatrol
@CodPatrol Год назад

@@ThedomiNATION Yeah I mean getting two encounters at once improves the luck of finding one because there’s two possible that “could” spawn. Do you know of people who have tried it and had good experiences doing it compared to just regular running into grass?

• @ThedomiNATION
@ThedomiNATION  Год назад

@@CodPatrol as with any hunt. Some people will have good luck with it and others will have bad luck with it. You’ll get the encounters twice as fast but it’ll still take on average 8,192 encounters to find a shiny. So if you have access to one of those hunts, I’d recommend trying it out!

• @ThedomiNATION

No. For the odd egg it is the sum of percentages. As the egg has a set chance of giving you a specific shiny Pokémon so to get any of them combined it would be all their percentages added up
