Zoe's dialogue about the pirated copy also exists, rerecorded, in the reignited trilogy, but there is no way to trigger it in game. It sits unused in the files.

The anti-piracy dialog is still in the genuine version but just ''unused''. You just have to enable a sound test cheat that's all.
For those who don't know, the anti-piracy wasn't designed to be mean with the player, it was to delay the hackers
At that time, hackers cracked a game usually on the same day or day after release and start selling the black label versions. Usually they only tested if the game was working playing just a couple of minutes, so the intention was to make it "appear" that the game was cracked sucessfully.
In the end, the anti piracy worked, I might be mistaken but it took months for them to proper crack the system.
On me it also had the effect of being subtle enough to make me love the game, and once I understood why the game was acting weirdly (a friend of mine constantly gifted me pirated games), I begged my family to buy me an actual original copy.
I remember as kid , like where are the gems , why is game like this , my father and I thought we got unfinished game or whatever ! For years I was asking myself why is game like that until I got original !
I played the PAL version (I'm Italian) and at some point it even starts switching languages. The language switching is the first undeniable sign that something's starting to go wrong.
Yes, this is an effect exclusive to PAL copies. It's a pretty funny effect, so I guess PAL is optimal if you want the "full" anti-pirqcy experience.
@@neog8029 Yeah, PAL is the best way. You'd be just minding your own business in a level and all of a sudden the NPC starts speaking in German, so you hit start to go back to the main menu, but the game refuses to pause.

I have memories of the rocket from Evening Lake giving me an option for Sorceress' Lair but then sending me back to Buzz's Dungeon and after the boss fight (which then replaces the Sorceress completely so that I can never fight her) it takes me to Super Bonus World, where I can't do much since I'm supposed to be here only when I have all the gems and eggs from the last levels that the anti-piracy glitch made me skip
The same happened to me, but it took me to the door to fight the Sorceress. But on the inside, i could not open the door because it required 100 eggs but as soon as I entered the portal to fight her my save was restarted.
@@Ardkun00 (Un)luckily for me, I always had more than 100 eggs at that point, but the door to the Sorceress would take me to the first boss and portals in Evening Lake would take me back to other levels from Sunrise Spring if I had that glitch on.
And Seashell Shore was unplayable because the underwater section wouldn't work properly, treating the level as if Spyro was on ground and leaving him unable to move for some reason
So as a kid I used Christmas money to buy this game from a pawnshop. I remember it was super glitchy, I couldn’t play anything in midnight mountain, etc. I remember being so angry with it as a kid (I don’t remember the Zoe dialogue though). But we broke that game back out after learning about these glitches that were in pirated copies and low and behold it was a pirated one, we got the Zoe dialogue and now it all makes sense why it happened as a kid 😂😂😂
That hilarious. I wonder if the developer knew people were going to be having revelations about their anti cheat more than 20 years later

Hear me out...
Having played this version for all my childhood, it's pretty playable, just a bit annoying (especially Help Bobby Get Home disappearing every 2 minutes). It's only impossible because of the Sorceress reset. It's kinda funny how Dayo was so afraid of the game, that the cheats he enabled caused more problems than the game itself.
Truly a testament to not having quicksave and quickload on adjacent keys (I say as I habitually bind those functions to "," & "." respectively)
With anti-piracy after Spike you can have only green Sparks (If he ate a butterfly he was disappear). Most traumatic experience (after Sorcores of course).
I'm still wondering why bad crack% speedruns of this game aren't a thing (run ends at the sorceress reset of course)
I used to have a pirated copy of this game back in the day. It was hacked by Paradox and has a cracktro right before the game starts. The anti-piracy features were all active and I couldn't finish the game lol.
Back when I was young I also had a cheat for playing pirated copies of Spyro 3! My hacked PS1...

Just so you know, i found a way to bypass the piracy traps in the burned copy in my childhood (had too much free time) without any cheats, some youtuber made a video after i explained to him how to do it. He goes into detail. Basically you have to not pick up any gems until you reach midnight mountain, meaning you gotta skip moneybags, play without sparks etc.
Then when you reach midnight mountain you gotta start clearing in reverse. Long story short you can end up with almost fully completed playthrough, 20000 gems and all eggs except the first sorceress fight. The first sorceress fight is just not doable without that patch flying around the internet, it will always wipe your game 20-30 seconds after engaging her.
This was such a fun stream keep it up Dayo!

I still remember as a kid, playing through this entire game, believing nothing could go wrong. Only for the last part to happen, and all my progress gone lol. Though, I also remember that one time, the special zone was open randomly, so I did get to experience that at least lol.
It would be cool if there were a TAS of this.
Hey Dayo, I wanna ask you something, this run was really nice, I watched live, but how about playing anti-piracy spyro 3 full without cheats? There are a lot of things you haven't experience on this run like:
- Sparks being only green after the 3rd hw
- Midnight bug where all the portals became sunrise spring levels
- Midnight bug where moneybags appear before Sorceress
- Rocket bug where you go to Super Bonus round after beating Scorch instead of Midnight
There are a lot more, and I know that you have seen a lot, but would be nice a run where you try to complete everything and saw all those things without cheating, trust me, it's way cooler than using cheats, I played this version a lot when I was kid and I know you'll have a great time playing that way

Growing up didn't get many games, so piracy was the way. But this anti piracy version caused enough problems. My dad went put to buy it that day 😂
So beating the final boss is borderline impossible even with cheats? Good old Insomniac and their tricks.
Btw, the hidden timer for the anti-piracy payload doesn't start until you move in the final boss.

I had a hacked version, but I didn't know that at the time. We finished the game by 117% without talking to Zoe, but when I decided to replay the battle with the Sorceress, I was thrown into Sunrise Springs, overwriting my save, and only after that I found a dialogue with Zoe. It was weird.
You literally have to talk to her to get into the balloon room though. 😒
@@ShadowNinetales I didn't have it) There was no Zoe and no cheats to skip it. The disk was the same, but the eggs and gems never disappeared, which is why I found it strange. I was a child, so it took me quite a long time to go through the whole game, the question is whether the anti-piracy policy begins with Zoe's dialogue or you can skip it without talking to her.

2 and 3 have the timed collection flight levels, and the fine tuning helps with dpad corrections.
Spyro 1 barely has a need for accuracy so the analog stick just feels nice

I'm glad I'm not alone. He called the lava lizards that stole the bones in Enchanted Towers "dogs," too. And you're not wrong about Zoe's name. "Zoe" has the same pronunciation as "Zoey," they're just two different spellings.
I actually remember having a burned copy as a child. We didn't get it for free, so I guess my parents didn't understand that it was pirated lol. The disc image was black and white. However, it was a perfect copy, as I don't remember it being unplayable.

Imagine being a third worlder kid living in some scummy apartment and your only option is either spending the economical equivalent of $150 for one game or $30 for a stack of burned CD-Rs and you're greeted to this.
I remember havin a chipped ps1 and having a fake version of this game.
I never really noticed anything until i got to the third area. It skipped the thrid boss completely and sent me to the final area. But i could access the boss straight away.
I died and then it let me access the secret area
But it started to drain all my gems back down to 0 😂😂
And every time i left a world my egg count would go down. Really confused me as a kid

I remember my copy of spyro once let me fight the second boss without having saved srg byrd, so i couldn't actually attack him.
Dunno if that copy was pirated or not. We didnt have a card to save the file on, so we mostly just replayed the first home world over and over again

At the sorceress battle, isn't it just a 25 secs timer? I mean, Its just that when you kill the sorceress very fast, the timer just reaches zero after she dies, but before the egg animation. I don't think there is a failsafe, just a low enough timer that it's impossible to end the last battle and see the egg.
I played burned discs but I guess my spyro 3 copies where the patched ones
I was gifted a patched copy that at one point got scratched so bad that the anti-piracy got triggered anyway.

I actually had a a non pirated copy I just learned about the cheat codes that turns on the anti pirate protocol it was pretty scary as a kid no wonder what you do Zoe's always talking to you about illegal copy of the game you're playing.
Did you know you can extract Zoe's warning from your original disc if you still have it. I extracted it from mine with a software I think called Jpsxdec
i bet with those Pirated copies that certain players had to start finding a way to by pass hack get around the anti piracy

The easiest way is to input this gameshark code on emulator (anti mod chip code)

There's no way to do it without cheats unless you have a burned disc of the game on an unlocked console.
Side note, spend like 10 mins in sunny villa to spawn the anti piracy fairy art the end of sunrise spring.

Its a normal ntsc 1.1 iso but with gameshark codes enabled in duckstation, shown at the start
I have different hacked paradox version. One I can activate Zoe but only if I enable the cheats included in the cracktro. And the other version enables different glitches. Like Spyro gets have can't jump up platforms. I can only jump up them if I do the jump where you turn while you jump. And to do normal jumps again I have to turn of the game and re plug the controller.

I just got the right paradox patch version for my Spyro (PAL version) to enable Zoe without activate the cheats in the cracktro.
