This was a pleasure to do! And it's a pleasure reading through the comments. We had no idea, when making Spyro, that we were making MORE than just a game. We knew we had something special from the very first time we saw (a little green) Spyro running around a flat plain of grass, but simply put, we knew we had a 'hit game' but no idea that we had a game that would truely touch so many people far into their adult lives.

You guys did such an incredible job!
You really helped make some of the best years of my life extremely memorable. You also helped me form an accurate opinion of beauty and nuance at a young age which gave a me a lot of peace and solace when my life became unbelievably hectic as an adult.
Thank you for your time and dedication, not just to the Spyro that ended up being created, but to the aesthetic quality that made it so magical.

I just wrapped up the final game in the trilogy for the first time. What you guys at Insomniac created are some of the most charming and fun 3D platformers ever made. Everyone did an amazing job!

Wow, this is amazing, Dayo! I loved how you pointed out a lot of the beautiful details he seemed too humble to point out himself. As a child I really appreciated the depth from the parallax in Skelos Badlands that Craig mentioned at 45:03. I had no vocabulary to describe it at the time, I just remember thinking it looked so cool and that something about moving around that level felt so realistically "layered". And you're telling me homeboy created each of those stars in the Fracture Hills skybox individually?! That's insane. Makes me appreciate it even more 💜 Maybe you'll have to give the "Spyro God" title to Craig now. 'Cause he said "Let there be light".... Or at least let there be an uncountable amount of meticulously painted and positioned polygons that will look like light ✨
I hope he knows just what kind of safe paradise he made for me as a little girl. He is amazing.

Spyro skyboxes should be warranted their own "aesthetics" movement, so beautiful and evocative as they are. They are among the first things I remember when I think about the trilogy.

Wow, I never even knew Shady Oasis had an open ceiling. The actual level in game has a fog which makes it feel like you're deep in some sort of sewers, so looking up didn't even cross my mind. I'm not even sure you could see the sky box if you looked up in game because of the fog.
This was amazing to watch. Dayo, thank you for making this with Craig and it is very surreal to see a game that was so magical to me as a kid being dissected and discussed so thoroughly. Even being on the PS1 with its limitations the magic is still present in these games, and I think that goes to show the artists like Craig are what instill beauty into a game in a way that technology cannot create on its own

Yes Ocean Speedway and Metro Speedway have the best skyboxes to me. It’s mainly with the contrast between the rising or setting sun and the rays and then you see the purple reflections on the clouds and the rain showers. It always fascinates me.
I’d love to see somebody recolour this skybox into a green or a bright blue icy! Or a dark red!

Zephyr has more going than you realise. Especially compared down to spuro 1 worlds. The colouring of the green hills is so good and the simplicity of replicating a sun and shaded blue skies not just blue all over. And the world has the sun virtually right above it giving that vibe of peak sun time its brilliant. And I think its a world that it works for. Other worlds would have felt worse off for for having this worlds sky box.

I think it's because most of those guys are phoned in when they do a video with creators like dayo, so the frequency range that's captured ends up being the same. Same kinda thing happens when you listen to old xBox 360 messages that were done with those shitty mics they gave all of us 😂
