I bought a trombone at the thriftshop with a stuck mouthpiece, and managed to remove it after playing the instrument for a while. Glad it was stuck as it was worth about three times what they were asking for the bone, which was also fairly rare and valuable but had a ton of red rust on the bell and outer slide to the point you could ‘t even tell what the make was unless you knew enough to recognize the 78h printed on the slide/handle.
"don't attempt to repair your horn. Leave it to a pro!" 2:13 drops trumpet
Lowest common denominator people
I am not a trumpet player but here is my story. I was scrapping some steel and droping it off at the recycler. In the pile was a bent trumpet. I took it and could not be leave that someone would throw it there. The end with the bell is bent, the mouthpiece is missing, but everything else seems to work. I wanted to get it repaired and keep it on my dads wooden sailboat as an emergency horn.
+Benjamin Armstrong That's such a cool story!
Agreed
How Do you poke a hole in the Bell
As my friend Boyd used to say in high school band rehearsal around 15 years ago:
"Very carefully!"
U don’t! It will break it
When trying to repair a fold or dent, if you don't anneal the metal it work hardens and cracks instead of stretching cleanly. For moderate to severe damage, the lacquer needs to be removed, the metal annealed, then the damage needs to be fixed, perhaps requiring a few annealing steps along the way, then polishing and putting a new coat of lacquer on finishes the job.
When I was teaching in Catholic school, a kid got his mouthpiece stuck and his father attempted to remove it with his trusty pair of pliers. Needless to say, he pulled the leadpipe right off the trumpet both disfiguring the leadpipe and pulling off the braces.
Lmao i once had a friend in 7th grade who's trumpet had it's mouthpiece stuck. The director wasn't there, but the sub who played the trumpet was. Rather than search for the tool (He couldn't find it at first), he decided to do it. He just destroyed that thing
Rowan Hall Same story but except with my trumpet :(
This whole series is awesome! Love it, thanks for posting!
I knew about the hot water thing because one of my private instructirs made that mistake when he was a kid. The interesting part is that the re-lacquering process improved the trumpet.
My old band director's name was mr Barton. He was a cool guy
good for you
lol
WyvernKiller02 So is my math teachers lol
Oml that’s insane! Thanks for sharing!
I have a sterling silver trumpet i got in East Germany as a kid, no one seems to be able to fix the supports right and it will not stay soldered. Trumpet has a 925 stamp on it for being solid sterling silver and not silver plated. The lip of the bell has a small bend as well. Who the heck can I get to fix this? The horn is of great value to me. I just can't seem to trust most shops with this repair as the horn is not brass.
A jeweler will have experience soldering sterling silver. Maybe you can find one who is willing to expand his horizons.
@@williamtate4339 Just don't. It's not their profession. Depending on where the brace is, a bad soldering job can cause a slide to become stuck. Just find a good tech.
Excellent video! 10/10.

I have an older king silver flair (2055). What is a good way of "chemical cleaning" to do a deep clean for this horn? What about a brass trumpet I know there should be a difference?
Very good video!
please link to your video on what you SHOULD do
Good videos....very helpful!
Can you help me... my first and 3rd valve slides have deep scratches and I just got this trumpet... how could I fix it?
I made the mistake of pushing the cleaning snake down the main tuning slide without lubrication of any kind--soapy water---without knowing how dirty it was. The brush became lodged when I tried to remove the snake. It came loose at the bend in the slide and I cannot remove it. Any suggestions? I inherited this trumpet from a friend who passed away last year. I feel terrible about this. Can you please help?
Rick Croucher Go to a competent brass repair tech.
my 10 year old son has a dice stuck in the bell. How do I get it out?
+Hazel Parker This could be tricky as you don't want to damage the horn in the process. Have you tried putting anything in the horn to dislodge it?
+Hazel Parker Ahahahahaa! I read it as "dick" and thought it was a joke then saw His reply. I laughed...
Jon Dough Jesus Christ that's funny as hell.
"Don't want to damage the horn."
...smh
Hazel Parker The tech would have to take the bell off the body and then insert a small dent ball and take the die out that way, then resolve the bell back onto the body of the trumpet. Expensive but, necessary.
How do you feel about removing tarnish from silver plated brass instruments using hot water, baking soda, and aluminum foil? Thanks for the videos; very informative!
I have an object stuck down the bell of my trumpet. The plastic stub on the trumpet stand came off when taking the trumpet off the stand. I'm in Trinidad and I'm wondering how do I get this out of the bell. Blowing it doesn't help. Any advice is welcomed. The instrument is brand new its a Jean-Paul.
We recommend taking your instrument to your local trumpet repair person as they will be able to assess and fix your issue.
were you ever in an infantry unit
How about a bell almost popoed off its own socket on a trigger trombone?
dont you have a "what not to do" video flute instrument?
We do have a great flute fundamentals video! ruclips.net/video/wVWRzO2_r_Q/видео.html Just do what they say!
Yes SIR!!!!! Thanks
Dude u helped me
I ave a broken brace. its been broken for years. Can I just leave it like that?
Without knowing the specifics of your problem, we recommend taking your instrument to a local expert repair person. They will know how to proceed!
Should and how do I remove scratches on a Bach Strad 37?
Take it to a tech and he/she can buff those out.
Are you able to hammer the tuning slide so it can get out
Bhad Badsadie I wouldn't try that.
I would not recommend taking a hammer to anything made of brass. It doesn't usually end well.
Plastic or rubber mallet
A pen got stuck in my trumpet in the hole where the sound comes out and I don't know how to get it out.If anyone has ideas on how to get it out then I would really appreciate it
peter larkin Pick the trumpet up and slowly rotate it.
It's Voarna Not towards the lead pipe, btw that 'hole' is called a bell
Krimson Grant I didn't say it was a hole. Lol
i would try j. b. weld for cracks and breaks
Definitely not.
Hi, so today my friend dropped his phone on my trombone bell (that was on the floor because I thought that was safer than in my hands at the time) and now there is a pretty good dent in the skinnier part of the bell, it is a brand new Conn 88H and I am completely crushed and sad that this happened! Please, what can I do to completely remove it!
Mr Hipponator my local repair shop broke my last trombones slide! so i don't trust him with this one! but thank you anyways!
help I had have a wobbly valve and I resembled it the right way and now it gets stuck when I push it down
Fallout Bro Make sure you're valve stem is tightened.
Why no euphonium
show
my trumpet does not want to play. I have to blow so much and it still does not sound right. Last time I played my trumpet it was easy and I didn't have to blow a lot!! help
+Adriana Barrera In what way does it not sound right? Can you describe the problem in more detail so we can send a more specific question to our repairman?
Oh don't worry I fixed it already but thank you! It was just blocked and couldn't play.
it was probably just misarranged valves
Wall this do it
Oh no. My trumpets lacquer is fading. Dang it was probably the water. Why didn’t anyone tell me this.
Oh by god I need help plz
seeing all these dented trumpets is making me cringe. Now what if that happened to my reynolds emperor trumpet.
I learned nothing. #armytho
So arrogant.
NewUnderTheSun How?
I agree with Bien Javier. How is this "arrogant"?
Care to explain, NewUnderTheSun???
