Lukewarm actually comes from the Middle English word lukewarme. It was a combination of “luke" and “warm," and the “luke" part was an alteration of the Middle English word lew, which meant tepid.
Tepid means neither hot nor cold…or about room temperature. In fact, tepid is a synonym for lukewarm, because lukewarm is used to mean neither hot nor cold.
So the plot twist was that “Luke” originally meant tepid or “lukewarm” and somewhere along the line someone thought it would make a good boy’s name. lol
Edit: The Middle English form of Luke meant tepid. Once it became popular as a name in ENGLISH (Luke has origins in Latin and Greek) then using luke as meaning tepid became out of fashion.
Given the origins, I believe it was Luke’s birthright to murder his roommates by spoon and claim discovery and namesake of lukewarm water.
