I loved deaf school, I remember seeing them live in Liverpool in the late 70s,i was overwhelmed because every one thought I was Betty... Fantastic memories of a great era and fantastic band ❤️
Bette Bright -- what a great female vocalist. Deaf School was in that same area of rock as The Tubes. Theatrical in the presentation when they performed live. Their biggest song was "What a Way To End It All."
j0hn Iastrada I fear n0t m0n ami the tubes were a theatricaI pr0ducti0n, they hired a ch0regrapher, direct0r dancers ffs it was vaudeviIIe n0t art r0ck but had n0 styIe, sIeaze yes, but n0 eIan deaf sch00Is music is crafted, meI0dic and r0cks aIs0 has way better tunes and infIuence the tubes are duII by c0mparis0n
One of the kids I was in school with in 1980 said his parents were in Deaf School. He kept it very quite and only told me after I knew him quite well. His name is Zachary H. If I remember right they were also teaching art somewhere in Liverpool Pretty sure that means Betty was his mum, she was the only female member of the band. Zach did have dark red hair
@@melgrant7404 2, zach had a older sister who was 16, when we were 14. Deaf School weren't a famous band in Liverpool at the time. Not like the Teardrop Explodes or Orchestral Manoeuvres. So when he mentioned Deaf School it didn't sink in till years later. Betty was the only female member of the band. What I do remember was his parents were not in the house very often, which was a bit unusual in 1980, usually the mum is in. The family lived in a pretty nice part of Liverpool called Aigburth, its the same area George Melly the jazz singer grew up in decades before
fantastic, I loved it when I was 18 and I have finally discovered you can buy it on itunes! I Saw Deaf School in 1976 in Cardiff Student Union... I seem to remeber Bete, fluffing her recorder bit and being reprimanded, and then the reverend taking on some hecklers to great applause. A really stupendous band it's really good to hear this again " i can't be late, it's a charity date, I've got to cut the ribbon at the vicars fate, next bus don't leave till 8 well done on putting this up! :)
I somehow got into them thru the retro=70s Hollywood cover art. I thought they sounded sort of art school arch like a low rent Roxy Music. But a little more theatrical. Catchy stuff nonetheless.
@RAFLyneham I love the album English boys and working girls, cant seem to get a copy of it though. any ideas. by the way, my Dad used to be stationed at Lyneham, and we lived in Calne in the 70s. I live in LA now, but still miss the place.
I had a US promo in the antediluvial epoch prior to the federal flood of 2005 (post-Hurricane Katrina). Still do, but haven't touched it since . . . it' likelygrowing all sorts of neat mold in a tub in my basement. If I ever recover it for myself I'll happily transfer it to CD for you. Or have you found a copy in the mean time?
I was there Liverpool empire 1977 what a concert... 62 now live in the canarys...but shall never forget that night
I followed the band from the start, saw the original (and fabulous!) line-up in Edinburgh! On two occasions! They were amazing!❤

@Jude Jad Flixportal :)
@Santiago Chris Thanks, signed up and it seems to work :D I appreciate it !
@Jude Jad happy to help =)
The reverend is the husband of my friend :) so funny to find these videos
Buy the LP it's cool
I'll say it again Bette Bright is a very lucky Lady to be married to Suggs.
Hearing Hi Jo Hi....you can see where Madness got the piano sound for Driving In My Car
She must be lucky because he could have had anyone as he was so handsome.
They should have toured with Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Very similar sounds.
Any members of the original Deaf School remember me?...........Lex (Tim was my good friend)
Great band. What the hell genre could you slot them into? Music Hall Revival? Ala Paul McCartney? That'll do for some of their stuff.
Saw them a few times Probe Records end of Mathew Street above pub sure it was called O'Halligan's parlour excellent live band
Kite Stream Poor you. This is awful.
