I can't believe that this video has only 1,412 views. It breaks my heart. In 1977 they were my favourite band. I wore out several copies of Don't Stop the World. Drove my friends nuts with the record!
1977 was a great time for me and i would do anything to go back to this date.... Deaf School were awesome and this was one of the first bands i ever saw but i didn't appreciate them at the time....i am so sorry to say this but Deaf School you were so underrated and you should have sold millions of records xxxx
Insanely cool ! Ahead of their time ! I hear a little bit of Gentle Giant - Sparks - Split Enz - Crack The Sky - Skyhooks - and many other great bands that we all know - sad how no one has heard of Deaf School?
I saw Deaf School in 1977 in Durham and became a HUGE fan! I saw them in again in 2010 and they sounded just as brilliant. They are one of the few bands who sound just as good live as in the studio. Utterly BRILLIANT!!
Awesome! Deaf School created incredible music! They never played Chicago. Too bad because these appearances are mind-blowing! I bought all their albums as soon as they came out and I listen to them and love them!
Why did I wait 20 years between hearing the name of this band and actually listening to them? DOH! What's odd is I know a few music heads from Liverpool and none have ever mentioned them. If they were from my town, I'd be going on and on about them! There are lots of great bands from the 'Pool but surely these are one of the very best?
Love this, just listened to all the albums the other day, I was lucky enough to see them a few times in the seventies. They alongside Roxy and Split Enz were a huge influence on me when I formed Basczax
ION, I am Buzzcocks biggest fan ever and always have been. People always used to think I meant Basczax. Just for the recod, I never did. Buzzers all the way
makes you feel good to be a human being knowing this group brings out your soul singing about stuff weve all been through i saw them last night and im still walking round with a big grin on my face if music can still do this theres hope God bless you all in deaf school land see you soon Coventry Dave xxxx
Ah, the good old days...Deaf School were one of the first bands I saw at Sheffield Uni Bar 2. My big brother took me when I was fourteen and a half and it wasn't no laugh. They were fucking great. Bette in her Swanky Modes dress and Enrico HOT HOT HOT! That's where I met Stephen Singleton selling hi fanzine 'Steve's Paper' in the audience afterwards and we became best mates. He went on to form Vice Versa and then ABC, which I joined when he left& David Palmer left to join Yellow Magic Orchestra.
... I used to watch thes guys all the time in Erics and other venues in Liverpool in 76/77 ..... I later became friends with Steve Lyndsey .... which was lovely for me
Saw them at Hardman House next to Kirklands in 88 I think it was, seen them everytime they've been back to Liverpool! A band you have to see to believe, unbefuckinglievable that they haven't been mainsteam for the last thirty odd years, the shite that has come and gone in between ,Deaf school get better and better....keep it going Boys and Girls!!!!!!!!!
without any doubt the most underrated band ever travelled round the country to see them a few years back saw em in b ham bette bright was awsome and the rev on top form what a way to end it all to be played when i snuff it
Recently picked up 2nd Honeymoon/Don't Stop The World at my record store. I hadn't listened to it there but was intrigued by the song lyrics and album art. I got home and was immediately amazed.
No one listened to the Beatles in Liverpool in the 70s. This was the band live or on record. Seen them loads of times and still listen to their records to this day .Deaf school shirts and badges happy days
I had an album that was handed down from my older sister. I absolutely loved it. In 1989 they did a reunion tour and appeared at the Hardman Hotel in Liverpool. It's still probably the best gig I've seen. At the end possibly Nick Lowe and definitely Suggs came on and sang My Girls Mad At Me. The whole concert was brilliant. Happy times
They were actually quite a good live band. I enjoyed this entire 6 minute video. I always liked their albums but I never saw anything live. Musicians were incredible.
Only just noticed some similarities in madness and deaf school sound. Or is it me....? Update : clive langer deaf school guitarist and producer was the missing link. Wasnt my imagination after all 😊
I bought Don't Stop the World in 77 , My friends thought I was crazy (our scene was Genesis, Pink Floyd etc.) but I still think its grat music.. Capaldi's cafe brrrrrrr !!! I lost the record but found them on You Tube , strange world. Is the album still for sale ?
@KeeganBrooks Spot on. I was at both their Dublin Castle gigs this week and have been watching them since my days at Liverpool Uni in '73. The consensus is that punk killed them off; but what were we doing to allow the monotony of punk to force entertainment like this out of our lives? I was as big a fan of the Pistols, Clash, Ramones, Dolls etc as anyone, and prog rock certainly needed its pompous ego pricking. But Deaf School? I mean *they* couldn't really play their instruments that well eit
I saw them a few times, they had a sort of 'send off' gig at a club in Birkenhead, can't remember the name of the club but the audience was almost entirely made up of local bands all rooting for them. I then saw them at Oxford a bit later after they'd been signed by Warners. They were, rather incongruously, supported by a punk band called Cockney Sparrow who spent most of the time gobbing at the audience, not that many people stayed in for their set. I also remember there was some tension with Kursaal Flyerslead singer Paul Shuttleworth over Enrico Cadillac Jnr's image being rather similar to his.
...I mean *they* couldn't really play their instruments that well either ... how come they got caught in the scattershot?! How many songs from the late 70s New Wave showed the writing and performing skills of Taxi or Nearly Moonlit Night Motel? We all want shooting for letting such a talented out fit like this slip from our grasp. Thank god they've had the sense to get back together.
Eric Shark a/k/a Thomas Sam Davis [the balding guy doing the spoken word parts] passed away earlier this year, January 7, 2010 awaiting a lung transplant. I hope he knows that this band and his contributions will be remembered for a long time coming. I bought the WB dbl pack when it was released stateside in'78. One of my favorite collections. Enrico, Bette, Clive Langer-all of this tremendous talent thumbing their nose at the 'normal'. The new steam-punk scene owe much to this band. FANTASTIC!
I don't know. Apart from the lead singer's lounge-lizard get-up, these guys don't look or sound much like Roxy Music. A lot campier, a lot Kinksier, different sense of humor. Roxy Music were great, too, but at least they got their due, and these guys never really did.
Sort of 'right band, wrong time'. Seemed to be caught in between the Roxys and the first creative, inventive ripples of the New Wave. Plenty of bands were influenced by them, but you can't pay the rent with liner notes.
first song is a rip off of "Airport" (Motors) and "Music" (John Miles)...second song is o.k. ...saw these at Alan Williams book launch in 77/78" don't remember anything except their zany outfits...Split Enz were already doing the zany bit ...but more talented
I can't believe that this video has only 1,412 views. It breaks my heart. In 1977 they were my favourite band. I wore out several copies of Don't Stop the World. Drove my friends nuts with the record!
Up to 96,000 now!
Saw these as a teenager in the 70s, totally mesmerised by their difference. Unforgettable!
Saw them in NYC at CBGBs in the late 70s. One of the best bands in the world.
I have been such a BIG FAN since 1977. What a delight to find this here!
1977 was a great time for me and i would do anything to go back to this date.... I saw them several times in he seventies they were an awesome live band
What a great group. How come I never heard about them until today?
Insanely cool ! Ahead of their time ! I hear a little bit of Gentle Giant - Sparks - Split Enz - Crack The Sky - Skyhooks - and many other great bands that we all know - sad how no one has heard of Deaf School?
One of the most important bands ever
I saw Deaf School in 1977 in Durham and became a HUGE fan! I saw them in again in 2010 and they sounded just as brilliant. They are one of the few bands who sound just as good live as in the studio. Utterly BRILLIANT!!

This is obscenely wonderful.
That takes me back to their gigs I saw at Blackburn King Georges Hall back around 1977. They were one of the best live bands.
Loved them. Was a Scouse kid in the audience, loved Betty and Enrico's quiff
No one listened to the Beatles in Liverpool in the 70s. This was the band live or on record. Seen them loads of times and still listen to their records to this day .Deaf school shirts and badges happy days
I saw them at the Marquee in 77,I remember it being hot, sweaty & smelly, but Deaf School were great.
You and me both, saw then live in 78 at Stoke college, fantastic, still fancy Bette!
この間録画したNHKの番組に入っていて気に入りました。TAXI のほうです。セリフのオジサンがいい味出してますね😃2曲目見るとバンジョー弾いてたので安心しました。(セリフだけの人だったらどうしようかと。。)
I always liked this song

They were actually quite a good live band. I enjoyed this entire 6 minute video. I always liked their albums but I never saw anything live. Musicians were incredible.
Saw them in a small club in Cincinnati. Loved their first album, their second LP not so much. But they were fun to watch.
OMG........ THIS BAND WAS MY YOUTH.
Just like seeing a film in 3.5 mins.
This group where from Liverpool I believe. My first listen to this group they sound friggin great will have to check more on these.
They were so original in the mid 70s. They're live gigs were memorable.
*their
@jasinohio
Couldnt agree more. Love them since I first heard Second Honeymoon. Hooked for years, and I live in Belgrade, Serbia. How about that1
I saw them at the roundhouse in 1977 !! A W E S O M E !!
The Clarences love & support Deaf School!
I never noticed before, but they're using 2 basses.

I am going to watch them in less than two weeks.
Is this from Supersonic???
コードの外し方でガクっとする
does anyone in the NYC area want to form a band like this? I'm hooked.
great rock band from the seventies. but then I must be biased as they went to the same collage as them.
wales admiral tracksuit haha
Anyone know anything about their albums what they released
I only just found them last month on Spizz Energi show on Resonance FM.I think the woman in the group married Suggs from Madness
All except the anthology( which is basically the albums in one lump) are newly available on spotify..... 😊
@saintrobski Maybe THE best Saint!!
Likewise. Very under rated, under exposed. T
How old was bette here .she seems much older than suggs.
why the hell couldn't i have been 17 and not 7 in 1977?

Roxy Sparks.
what a way to end it all sounds like a single mix. Definitely a different recording from the album.
It's there. You just gotta look harder.

Probably "Mr Digbys" (now a gym )
Enrico Cadillac's biggest regret was not being born Bryan Ferry.
