i have recently discovered this band from rough trade at the bbc, really like them alot. Leeds must of been a good place for new wave music back in the day, with the likes of gang of four.
SO awesome! Finally get to see how Delta 5 was live and in action. I was especially curious how the double bass thing worked out and the vocals. Now I know for sure that next to Viv Albertine, Bethan Peters (vocals, bass) is my total Post-Punk crush....wheet-whew!
The Go Go's just got in. Was wondering if a girl band would rise again. It only took ten years after your prime. I guess the time is now! I got your back!
So Where is this from? As it doesn't actually look like a 'Something Else' set ( that usually had a 'naturally lit look') . I'd guess Oxford Road Show- the opening D..E..L..T..A etc lettering is how a lot of 'ORS' design looked..
Fantastic band.... I have their 'Singles and Sessions' album, which apparantly is a lot better than 'See the Whirl' their studio album. But I won't pass judgement until I've had the privelage of giving it a listen
See The Whirl is notable chiefly for the studio version of Anticipation. It's an incredible manifesto of sheer rage, angst and longing. Anticipation is love lightning captured in a bottle and Delta 5 are duly rendered immortal.
More than you might think. During the 90s King Crimson were a double trio with two guitars, two drummers and two 'bassists' (in quotes because both Tony Levin and Trey Gunn played Chapman Stick. Levin also played conventional bass whilst Gunn played 'touch guitar'. Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Flipper and Cop Shoot Cop also had two bassists. In their later tours (not on record) Talking Heads used two bass players. French proggers Magma had twin bass on one of their 70s albums. There's also the collaboration between Holger Czukay and Jah Wobble. I'm certain there was a 60s group with two bass players, but can't think who they were.
@tommyperkins - 'See The Whirl' = Good songs but over-the-top production. BJ Cole guests on pedal steel on one track! Aaargh. Charisma tried to turn them into a pop group
I can appreciate that they were against racism, but you don't have to be a socialist or leftist to take that stand. I love the way certain movements get co-oped by the left with the passage of time. The civil rights laws from America's 1960's would not have passed without heavy Republican support, and they are capitalists not socialists. Thanks for the post though.
uh, this "version" is them playing the song live on tv. they're not trying to "fix" their song: they're PLAYING LIVE, which is what most band do, dumbass.
Wow, you really took the time to comment on all the Delta 5 clips to make sure the world knows you are not a socialist and don’t like socialists. Fine. I love D5, love the fact that they were socialist but most of all I’ happy I’m not a dumb American bigot who doesn’t know what is appropriate when and where. Kisses. No, make that socialist kisses.
I don't know why this group didn't make it big? Unique and quite talented
RIP Julz Sale ..guitarist and singer in delta 5.
this band has very nice basslines and cheekbones
I've never seen a band with 2 bass players. Amazing!!! Lots of great music came out of the post punk late 70s/early 80s scene
one of the best Delta 5 tunes..... excellent guitar sound.......sounds like flanger/reverb on a VOX tube

Saw them live in London back in the day.
Love that bass line and space guitar sound!
This is INCREDIBLE
Yes, you can tell they were pals with the Gang of Four, can't you?
Disclaimer: I was a student at Leeds Uni between 1977 and 1980.
Great artists. There are no longer such (punk) rockers like them.
well...went under the radar...what a great band!!
this is great! the chorus bit really reminds me of 'Contract' by Gang of Four
first time watching them in video. remember john peel playing in his radio 1 show
Bethan Peters, on vocals and ONE of the TWO bass players, is gorgeous, and a tremendous musician as well.
Thanks a lot for uploading this! For me it was the best part of the Rough Trade at the BBC video.
yes!!! agreed
also basslines and cheekbones, this would make for a great song or record title
effing amazing band
This is Awesome !!!!

Her hair was ahead of it's time.
Great!
@43447 Listen to Lewis Black describing the mental phenomenon of 'anticipation'. He nails it even better.
Super linda su música
that crowd needs to settle down someone could get hurt
Escapism yeah holy fuck
Yeah...they're not doing a 'Friday night at the Electric Ballroom' ..
It's from Oxford Road Show I think (I've been wrong before though).
coooooooool
Lucky you. It must have been an exciting time
I had that album on CD Rock Against Racism was awesome
good to see Riggsy banging the old guitar, aint seen the feller for years
Shit business
♥️
does anybody know where can you get the lyrics to their songs?
they would support Gang of 4
The Go Go's just got in. Was wondering if a girl band would rise again. It only took ten years after your prime. I guess the time is now! I got your back!
Roz was hawt.
Still got the 7"... everyone should have the 7". Let's make it a mandatory gift at birth.
Yeah of course you drive a Ferrari
They were a great live band. Like The Au Pairs, better on the stage than on record.
But that 4 on the BBC icon must mean a 4x bigger audience!
brother jbbutterfield says one of the most inovative british bands!
Bit like Gang of four, but better visually
RIP, Kelvin
I reckon this is from Old Grey Whistle Test? BTW Still got the 7" ... Anticipation really is so much better!
I own the 6 song EP on which this song appears
@43447 Yup. He's not consistently funny, but he defo has his moments!
So Where is this from? As it doesn't actually look like a 'Something Else' set ( that usually had a 'naturally lit look') .

@bennyshambles Yep, I'm with you there bro. Although I'd be happy to accept either of them as my post punk lefty student bride!
Julz sale (? 20 September 2021)

can anyone upload their song ''journey''?
Any other groups that featured two bass players?

Original line up of the band Brilliant (Youth and Stephane Holweck)
Anyone know what this was from its not from TOTP.
They look super dedicated but I am leg wondering.
Music unbounded.
way better.
When heaps of flanger on your guitar worked.
Can you fix the title of this video? This ISN'T Top of the Pops!
@tommyperkins - 'See The Whirl' = Good songs but over-the-top production.
BJ Cole guests on pedal steel on one track! Aaargh.
Charisma tried to turn them into a pop group
This isn't from Top of the Pops, and it's revisionary and naive to suggest that Delta V got anywhere near that level of commercial success.
Would have probably been the Whistle Test I don't remember audiences in The Whistle Test
Something Else, apparently.
That's for sure, and most likely they'd not have played live.
Pebble Mill at One?
Such a good band for such a boring crowd !!!🤦🏻♂️

It's out of sync.
that's the point, it's groovy
NOT TOTP
uh, this "version" is them playing the song live on tv. they're not trying to "fix" their song: they're PLAYING LIVE, which is what most band do, dumbass.
Oh Bethan !, but you were such a raving Socialist.
I love their music but, hell no, I'm not a socialist.
