Her voice is so relaxing, but extremely powerful and beautiful. I love this song, I love her voice and even the backup singers’ voices. Amazing, just amazing. Happy heavenly 82nd Birthday to Aretha Franklin! ❤🥳🎉🎊🕊️3/25/2024

One of the amazing features of this recording is that the only instruments are a piano, stand-up bass, acoustic guitar, and drums. Aretha’s voice and the back-up singers are so strong, it fills it out like you’re hearing an orchestra. Rare and exceptional talent.
When you realize the power your hear and feel in these beautiful voices is the churchs they came from. The love and community that made these talents possible.
I'm a 60 something year old white guy, in Texas of all places, who was 9-10 yrs when she did this. Even then as a boy I knew she was very special. My mom, as a young widow, had a lot to do with my music appreciation. Man!! That women could sing. Won't be another one like her...... not even close.
Aretha transcends music behind color, people, or country. I'm 52 white guy from StL. My mom would listen to Motown back in the 80's, I'll never forgot all those dreams songs.
I really like Dionne Warwick's version, but I absolutely LOVE Aretha's rendition. I love what she does with the background vocals on her rendition. My high school marching band played Aretha's version 50 years ago, and every time I hear it, it reminds me of marching in a parade downtown and playing it. Great memories! The queen reigns! ❤❤❤
Burt Bacharach and Hal David launched a bushel of superstars in the 60s and 70s with his compositions. My musical tastes are pretty eclectic anyway but Bacharach was among my favorite composers as a kid, right in the midst of the British Invasion and rock revolution. Guess I'm an old soul but even as a kid I got off on Adult Contemporary, and Burt Bacharach _owned_ the genre back then.
I think Aretha Franklin has the greatest voice to ever sing into a microphone. One of the "evers" at the end of this song always touches my soul when she hits the note.
Little known fact: Hal David wrote these lyrics imagining the thoughts of a young girl whose boyfriend is fighting in Vietnam. To the veterans and their families -- this is your song. Prettiest song of the 1960's.

It sounds like most people remember the very first time they heard this song. Add me to the numbers. I managed a Walgreens, and it's still probably the most boring job I've ever worked. All we had to rely on to get through the day was music. Sadly, they played the same playlist nearly every day. With this song, though, I would stop and listen and indulge in the simplistic beauty of it. Yes, it's beautiful all by itself. Just to hear it is to love it. Yet, if you've ever felt love. Like really, down in the pits of your soul, whether you lost it or have it to hold today, the most beautiful memories blossom while her melodic voice and words fill your heart, even if only for a few moments. We were blessed by the Queen of Soul's presence and impact on our world. In the words of the honorable Rev. Dr. Jim Lawson, "The great gift of life from creation is also the gift of the powers of love...The big task in the 21st Century is that wemove to let LOVE be the power in which we organize every facet of our society."
Aretha speaks for my heart, and as I feel for my man that I will forever love! I believe in God's answered prayer. God makes all the moves, including this one. God bless us
@@lynndollar1013 Yes, I love that one as well. The reason why I like Aretha Franklin's the best is because it is the first version I listened to, and it just stuck. I wish modern music was as good as the music of the 60's and 70's.
This is only one of two songs where I prefer the remake. The other “ I ‘m Every Woman “ Whitney Houston. There is just something sweeter about Aretha’s take on it.
As soon as it starts you just fall in love with her voice and this song. I love the backup singers as well. This song is forever timeless, amazing, and iconic, and the same could be said about her. Not just anything that sounds can be considered a song. This is and can be felt over the top. A great composer, Burt Bacharach, a unique performer, Aretha Franklin + a great mix: the choir voices and the complete instruments sound in their proper measure and without waste; they are valued and complemented under a unique percussion register.
I LOVE ARETHA AND YET, BOTH VERSIONS ARE SIMPLY EQUALLY ICONIC. Aretha's could be argued more soulful and yet the arrangement and Dionne's diction and tone is simply magical. It really depends on what mood you might be in. I love the trumpet solos on Warwick's version from the 60's it's just the best, but Aretha highlights the BG singers and it to is surreal the emotion it brings. Whatever version I just happened to hear when it comes on I find myself just as happy to hear.
