An icon of 20th and 21st century music, the voice of the civil rights movement, and the undisputed Queen of Soul-there is only one Aretha Franklin. In her incredible six-decade career, Aretha evolved from teenage gospel star to reigning pop and R&B diva, recording classics like “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “Chain Of Fools”, “Think” (lyrics by Aretha Franklin), definitive versions of the songs “Respect” and “I Say a Little Prayer”, and global hits like “Freeway Of Love,” “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)”, and “A Rose Is Still A Rose.”
Altogether, 112 of her singles reached the charts, with 20 No. 1 R&B singles, the most ever by a female artist. She won 18 Grammy Awards (including the first eight trophies for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance) and, out of recognition for her for indelible contribution to American music and culture, received both the Presidential Medal of Freedom and a Pulitzer Prize.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever made and wrote the choir background singers finish it off
I dedicate this song to my sons and daughters❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful?
Beautiful voice rip
We pray by giving thanks🙏🏾🌹
The moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I say a little prayer for you
While combing my hair, now,
And wondering what dress to wear, now,
I say a little prayer for you
Forever, and ever,
(You'll stay in my heart and I will love you)
(Forever) Forever, and ever,
(We never will part Oh, how I love you)
(Together) Together, forever,
(That's how it must be to live without you)
Would only mean heartbreak for me, ooh
I run for the bus, dear,
While riding I think of us, dear,
I say a little prayer for you
At work I just take time
And all through my coffee break-time,
I say a little prayer for you
Forever, and ever,
(You'll stay in my heart and I will love you)
(Forever) Forever, and ever,
(We never will part Oh, how I love you)
(Together) Together, forever,
(That's how it must be To live without you)
Would only mean heartbreak for me
My darling, believe me
For me there is no one but you
Please love me too
Answer my prayer
Answer my prayer now babe, oh-oh
Forever, and ever, ever
(You'll stay in my heart and I will love you)
(Forever) Forever, and ever,
(We never will part Oh, how I love you)
(Together) Together, forever,
(That's how it must be to live without you)
Would only mean heartbreak for me, nobody but me
My darling, believe me
For me there is no one but you
Please love me too
Answer my prayer
Answer my prayer now babe
Say you love me too
Answer it right now babe
Answer my prayer

Her voice is so relaxing, but extremely powerful and beautiful. I love this song, I love her voice and even the backup singers’ voices. Amazing, just amazing. Happy heavenly 82nd Birthday to Aretha Franklin! ❤🥳🎉🎊🕊️3/25/2024
Дай бог здоровья, с днём рождения
✌🏾 relaxing,POWERFUL and BEAUTIFUL is an apt description of her voice!! 💯 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. ❤️🙏🏿☝️✌🏾
I'm a 60 something year old white guy, in Texas of all places, who was 9-10 yrs when she did this. Even then as a boy I knew she was very special. My mom, as a young widow, had a lot to do with my music appreciation. Man!! That women could sing. Won't be another one like her...... not even close.
Eu amo está música, está para mim transmiti um alto astral imensurável, sem contar que a Aretha é explendita 🎶🎶💕
You have great taste in music..
The Holy Spirit had a hand in this song. :)
@@julianagimenes6819 Maravilhosa
Aretha transcends music behind color, people, or country. I'm 52 white guy from StL. My mom would listen to Motown back in the 80's, I'll never forgot all those dreams songs.
Aretha really lets the backup singers really shine.
ur the only comment
oh wow
She sings WITH backing singers not over them 🙂
Simply Fantastic exceptional 👍🏼 Unique, ♥️🌹🌹♥️ ARETHA FRANKLIN 🌹
@@V-nMontague morning
The were her sisters no?
I remember the first time I heard this on the radio about 50 years ago. That voice blew me away then, and still does today.
Total
.... OOH , YEAH ... Same here mate ... Im hearing you .... ROCK ON , QUEEN OF SOUL ... MMMmmmm....
I hope you have a good health to live this live!!
I remember hearing this song about 10 years ago this month and I thought her voice was amazing and it still is today
hiiiiii🤗
Anyone in August 2024?😊
Early September 2024? 😊
I was a a heroin addict/opiate addict for 5 years. Everything in this song reminds me of what my mother probably went through .R.I.P. mom
stay clean. Wish you all the best 🙏
I’m sorry for your loss beautiful soul. God bless you… stay clean and away from that poison in honor of your mother❤
🙏🙏
❤️
Keep up darling ❤❤❤
Rip Burt Bacharach 🙏🏼 who wrote this song so Aretha Franklin can Bless us all with this Classic 🎶🎵🎶
I think Aretha Franklin has the greatest voice to ever sing into a microphone. One of the "evers" at the end of this song always touches my soul when she hits the note.
Rsrsrsrs
Good music
The evers give me goose bumps
1 of, no doubt man. Comparing things of true greatness is a tricky business 😉
Nope: Queen HAS one of the best voices EVER:)
This is definitely the best version of this song.
Its very very good, but I like Dionne Warwick's original cut, its what I remember on the radio in 1967
@@lynndollar1013 Yes, I love that one as well. The reason why I like Aretha Franklin's the best is because it is the first version I listened to, and it just stuck. I wish modern music was as good as the music of the 60's and 70's.
The only
The intro and backup singers are so sweetly beautiful, but Aretha still takes the cake
This is only one of two songs where I prefer the remake. The other “ I ‘m Every Woman “ Whitney Houston. There is just something sweeter about Aretha’s take on it.
Little known fact: Hal David wrote these lyrics imagining the thoughts of a young girl whose boyfriend is fighting in Vietnam. To the veterans and their families -- this is your song. Prettiest song of the 1960's.
I did not know this. Thanks for sharing. She was simply angelic ❤️🕊😥
WRONG! Burt Bacharach wrote this song for Dionne Warick. Arthea's version is a remake.
@@judychang8760 You didn't read what I said. I didn't say which singer he wrote it for. I said what he was writing ABOUT. In fact, I first head about the meaning of the lyrics from an interview with Dionne Warwick. Hope this clarifies things.
Hey George, Thanks for sharing this info … it provides rich context to a tremendous song.
Fire
One of the amazing features of this recording is that the only instruments are a piano, stand-up bass, acoustic guitar, and drums. Aretha’s voice and the back-up singers are so strong, it fills it out like you’re hearing an orchestra. Rare and exceptional talent.
Great comment, you're absolutely spot on. 👌
Aretha Franklin It’s great money
You know what I love, Aretha Franklin❤
its fukin outstanding
Yes, and it's a nylon string acoustic.
I didn't even realize I had tears in my eyes just how beautiful is her voice ,the lyrics ... Rest well The Queen of Soul.💕🙏🏾💕
Ditto that.
❤❤
They sing with feeling. Old school music is beautiful!
R.I.P. Great lady of soul.
Words cannot express how good this song is and how well Aretha sings it
Burt Bacharach and Hal David launched a bushel of superstars in the 60s and 70s with his compositions. My musical tastes are pretty eclectic anyway but Bacharach was among my favorite composers as a kid, right in the midst of the British Invasion and rock revolution. Guess I'm an old soul but even as a kid I got off on Adult Contemporary, and Burt Bacharach _owned_ the genre back then.
The voice.the piano.the chorus.everything sounds so good here
voce e baiano
Sometimes I just can't stop shedding tears when I hear this song.
Same here.
It will be okay Mikemccabe
Still listening in 2020. This was alway one on my favorite songs by Aretha
im here 2021 never ever get tired of this song .
One of Miss Aretha’ s
Best!!!
Dionne’s was beautiful and melodic
BUT Aretha gave it meaning, made it real
One of her very bests of all her greatest
This and “A Natural Woman” should have Topped the charts Even though it was the “B” side to“The House That Jack Built”.
Too many of Aretha’s great hits didn’t go all the way to the top.i.e
“Until you come back to me”…
of pop charts that is.
I saw a couple of elephants sang to this song
@@terryoneill9525 im in 2022 and im never tired of this song
Miss this lady. What a great singer!
Dedicated to my mom who would have 45 this year and introduced me to all the good stuff❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Simply one of the best recordings ever.
Is it ever
Still listening in 2024
This song has been in my mind for about three weeks. My grandmother loved her.
Queen of soul 😎🎵👆
Not just anything that sounds can be considered a song. This is and can be felt over the top. A great composer, Burt Bacharach, a unique performer, Aretha Franklin + a great mix: the choir voices and the complete instruments sound in their proper measure and without waste; they are valued and complemented under a unique percussion register.
Anybody that is listening this is from me to you😊
Bom diaaaaaa!
Aretha's vocals on this song give me goosebumps every time! RIP Queen of Soul.
I miss Aretha, but we sure got her Songs! Coronavirus 2020

@James Hama I am good thank u. 😀
I'm an old white man, been to 23 counrues, speak two foreign languages (Arabic & German) and I LOVE ARETHA, (PS" G'nite SHANA--- sweet one with the squeeky high voice--- wherever you are....).😘🥰😇
Nothing forced, no ego, full vulnerability. Today's era calls this type of candor "lame" I love it.
One of the greatest female singers of all time ❤
She has a healing voice…reaches my soul each and every time 💜🌸💜
Una melodía en verdad subliminal en la extensión de la palabra. Toda una delicia escuchar tan hermosa canción en seguir retumbando con el correr de los años.
I'm 70 years old 2024🎉 and Aretha Franklin was my Mom favorite singer to which I know all of her songs by hard STILL Because my Mom played her records so much ❤❤❤❤

Just gorgeous. We love you Aretha. The stars shine brighter than ever.
One of the greatest songs ever recorded in popular music 🎶
I am quite sure about that.
Perhaps my favourite Burt Bacharach song done by the queen of Soul RIP Aretha and Burt
Beautiful song and the amazing voice of Aretha !
The back up singers are her Sisters Carolyn and Emma.
Didn't know Aretha had a 2nd sister named Emma
The famous saying " Old times were better" applies perfectly here. The one and only, an American treasure! She is amazing angels with her unmatched voice and admirable life! R.I.P. SOUL QUEEN!
The arrangement on this version is Sublime.
Me encanta esta cancion por aretha
RIP Aretha Louise Franklin (25/3/1942 - 16/8/2018) we missed you but your songs are immortal 😭😭😭
The queen of soul was born this day, March 25, 1942. God bless the queen..
I really like Dionne Warwick's version, but I absolutely LOVE Aretha's rendition. I love what she does with the background vocals on her rendition. My high school marching band played Aretha's version 50 years ago, and every time I hear it, it reminds me of marching in a parade downtown and playing it. Great memories! The queen reigns! ❤❤❤
Me Too… Dionne was Great. But Aretha Lays Down the Soul ❤️

The greatest singer of all time…just incredible.

It sounds like most people remember the very first time they heard this song. Add me to the numbers. I managed a Walgreens, and it's still probably the most boring job I've ever worked. All we had to rely on to get through the day was music. Sadly, they played the same playlist nearly every day. With this song, though, I would stop and listen and indulge in the simplistic beauty of it. Yes, it's beautiful all by itself. Just to hear it is to love it. Yet, if you've ever felt love. Like really, down in the pits of your soul, whether you lost it or have it to hold today, the most beautiful memories blossom while her melodic voice and words fill your heart, even if only for a few moments. We were blessed by the Queen of Soul's presence and impact on our world. In the words of the honorable Rev. Dr. Jim Lawson, "The great gift of life from creation is also the gift of the powers of love...The big task in the 21st Century is that wemove to let LOVE be the power in which we organize every facet of our society."

This song is amazing... Why I didn't know about this great song Before....
I love Aretha Franklin! She was so talented. Her songs are timeless. They will live on forever. R.I.P. You are deeply missed by me and the world!!!
She just belts this out with perfect tone, without a single blemish, with a vocal range that would shatter glass. You just can't teach vibrato and note progression like this, this is 100% natural talent. God blessed her many times over. Gotta say, too, that whoever was doing backup was on their game. Perfect 3-part harmony and every note hit with precision.
I cry of joy and sadness everytime I heard it. "Che la terra ti sia lieve" Queen Aretha!
after watch Sing 2
does anybody here get good vibes from sing 2 where meena is trying to pretend that yak is alfonso the boy she likes i hope that all gives you a hint
Dice Dios el amor al prójimo lo cambia todo.una belleza de melodía del autor.bonitas palabras a dios por mi amor.gracias por esta gran melodia
Great song. Without a doubt it has surpassed time and it's still a super good song that makes us feel joy and makes us dance
Bacharach and David were pure genius, and Aretha's cover could've easily stole the show from Dionne Warwick if Aretha had released it first. _Both_ of them did the song justice, and I thought Bacharach's selection of Warwick to launch it was a coup for Adult Contemporary.
This sends chills still in 2022. I’m sure Soul is the angels music.
To me as well..I was 11 when this came out ..still chills at 65 ..love this song
This is definitely one of the best songs I've ever heard ❤️✨

Simply one of the greatest songs ever !!! Just wish the late great Teddy Pendergrass or even Daryl Hall or Samuel T Herring from Future Islands would record this.

I've been listening to her cd (that my mom had) since I was a child. And this song is amazing! I love how you can hear the guitar on the left and the piano on the right. And her backup singers are killing it.

Burt Bacharach composed the melody. It was Hal David that composed the touching, moving, and soulful lyrics.
