Ok so Telsa is in one of the highest insurance groups so that’s a no no for me in the U.K. the model 3 would cost more than my Range Rover Sport! I saw the Tucson today 30 miles a day (claimed 50) and costs £2 a day to plug in and charge at home. So that’s about £40 - £50 a month in charging costs the same with the Rav 4 plug-in and then petrol on top of that if you go past your 30 mile limit.

Hey Matt, just test driven the Ioniq 5 which I was ready to place an order on having seen all the gadgets, sat in the cockpit and wowed (see what I did there) at the exterior design & lights. And then I did the drive, which was all going well until it absolutely chucked it down with rain on the M5 just outside Exeter then going into the A30. The view through the rear window was just a blur, I couldn't make out if the car behind me with its headlights on (and thank god it did or I just wouldn't have known it was there) was 10 feet behind me or 100. Such a danger & such a shame. I love the design & was happy with the price but as the wife pointed out when Hyundai don't do a sunroof option for the UK because of the inclement weather then why the hell did they not include a rear wiper considering the sometimes awful weather we get. A real shame but I suspect the Ioniq 5 mk 2 may well have a rear wiper fitted as standard. Watch this space!
Interesting, and not the first to make this point. If worst comes to worst, I understand the rear view camera stays clear (and can be switched on permanently)
The best part of this video was 06:17 & 07:39, to actually get to know all pros and cons of the product you are following since long!!!. Thank you for posting such honest content.
Thanks Matt for noticing the seats and pointing them out. I sold my Sportage because I developed back and neck pain after driving it for long hours and I liked the car otherwise. I think the seats are too small and not made for taller people. No such problem in Touareg.
Good review as usual. Superb looking car. We test drive a standard Hyundai Ioniq last week. The difference in design & style between the Ioniq & Ioniq 5 is truly remarkable tbh. It's honestly like the car came from 2 different companies.
Why the exterior design team don't communicate with the interior design team? In all new hyundai models the exterior is very angular but in the interior all edges are rounded!
Fuck it! I'm a massive petrol head, I love classic British cars, Aston DB5, E type Jag, I love classic American Muscle... After a whole year of leasing one, I'm going to furiously proclaim,... It's brilliant. It just is. Couple of minor gripes - the stereo system isn't great (and the DAB radio refused to pick up DAB until it was updated over the air a few months back). Materials in the front are a bit cheap on anything but the highest trim, too. But that's it. It drives beautifully, is immensely comfortable when cruising at motorway speeds, the regen braking system is PERFECTLY judged, it has a vast interior, it's nippy, disguises its size well. Quiet, stylish, fun, relaxing, very efficient in summer months (middling in the depths of winter if you don't get the heat pump) and, so, costs pennies to run. It's just a really great car.😊
I sat on one today, it's about 830 million idr (46k pounds), for the long range single motor, signature trim. Beautiful car. Really considering to getting one.

This car is awesome, and it's not really expensive for what it is. Personally I would go for the single motor long range version. As it is adequate in terms of power, and has the most range. If you drive it propperly you can exceed the advertised range with up to 15%
Honestly a good review! It's a great car.
I wish the Tucson had gotten this type of review. This one felt genuinely interested in the features of the car; whereas on the Tucson's review, it was just kind of bagging it the entire time and missed a lot of nice features that are otherwise praised on other vehicles.
Feel like if Marty Mcfly needed a new car for Doc to work on as the next time machine, this would be the 2021 DMC Deloreon! Stunning car especially in silver!
Had the privilege of seeing one of these in the showroom and sit in it. Looks incredible in person and the inside actually really nice quality but feel the screens will look old quickly… An EV I would buy though!
Why will they look old?
@@judahdaneshtaol I feel it would look dated.
Like looking back at old cars like a Lada, that clearly don’t look new. I feel these screens would look dated quicker than normal vehicles would
@@MultipleMadness1 "normal vehicles" have analog dials in the dashboard which already look ancient.
Why would the screens date that quickly?
Not sure if many reviews mention how large this car is. It's got a similar wheelbase to an Audi A8!
The length of the wheelbase is 3000mm.

At last, Ive been waiting ages for this. Thank you Carwow!
Just seen in one and that brought me to come and watch this review. It's futuristic and simply beautiful. Well done, Hyundai.
Well done, mate. Made me chuckle. I like the car. it's on my list when I'm ready for my first EV.
6:30 - The main reason for the reduced capacity of the front boot on four-wheel-drive versions of the Ioniq 5 is because most of the space underneath is taken up by the front motor. That’s why rear-wheel-drive only versions have a bigger front boot than the four-wheel-drives, as they have no front motor taking up space.
Model Y AWD has a huge frunk. Or froot if you like.
@@mcplutt downside is that it's a tesla.
"the coolest EV in the world" indeed! I want one if it's on Japanese market.
I think it's going to be released. Hyundai is preparing to enter Japan and saw a picture of IONIQ 5 being tested in Japan. 😃
@인성 Speaking of internal combustion cars and Hybrid Japanese cars are still better, but EV.

I never thought my dream car would be a Hyundai
Ok so Telsa is in one of the highest insurance groups so that’s a no no for me in the U.K. the model 3 would cost more than my Range Rover Sport! I saw the Tucson today 30 miles a day (claimed 50) and costs £2 a day to plug in and charge at home. So that’s about £40 - £50 a month in charging costs the same with the Rav 4 plug-in and then petrol on top of that if you go past your 30 mile limit.
It looks much better than ID3.
It competes against the ID.4
ID3 doesn't look any fun at all. It's really ugly, BUT I loved to drive it. The ID4 looks good but it's boring, even with 300 hp. I'd prefer the ID3........Enter Ioniq 5, damn....I'm sold! I'm buying that!

Been waiting for this. Matt has the magic touch when it comes to reviews!
If worst comes to worst, I understand the rear view camera stays clear (and can be switched on permanently)
original ioniq never had a wiper either.
The best part of this video was 06:17 & 07:39, to actually get to know all pros and cons of the product you are following since long!!!. Thank you for posting such honest content.
If DeLorean was made into a SUV.
Giorgetto Giugiaro, who designed DeLorean, also designed the Hyundai Pony which is a motivation of the ioniq 5.

I have to admit, cars like this mean I'll probably change my hot hatch for an electric sooner than I expected. Also "Glove drawer", I want one!
Why the exterior design team don't communicate with the interior design team? In all new hyundai models the exterior is very angular but in the interior all edges are rounded!
A very odd decision from Hyundai
The EV6 is far better on the inside but the Ioniq wins the exterior design battle. Wish I could mix them.
If we get an N version of this with the powertrain from the Kia EV6, that would be pretty epic 😃👍. Awesome content :)

This car reminds me of that 80's futuristic sharp lines... I want to hate EV's but this car makes it hard to do so, it's a gorgeous piece of automotive design, I hate to love it... but aesthetically love it!
Love the outside not so much the inside …
For me still the Kia EV6 GT 😍
We love the inside! 😳
Honestly, this SUV will always stand out, and I absolutely love that.

Love Your Videos! I have a really fun and delightful time spent, every time you review cars. And I trust your reviews more than anyone elses!
Important note on the ioniq 5 (my absolute favorite car)
Its got a reeeally low actual payload. So you wont be able to carry a family on vacation with the luggage needed. Barely the family.
Ordered a matt gold one today. Two weeks can't wait 😊
The wheels looks impressive.....and also the gauges cluster😀😀👌👌
It's like what people in the '80s thought future cars would look like 😂
That's because cars from the 80's used cheap plastic as well. I think it totally ruins the car.
I prefere old fashion USB than newer because every cable I have use this USB

Hyundai really know what they are doing when it comes to the new generation cars like this.
However, like Mat was saying in more recent times the price of cars are starting to really get way more expensive than the average person can really afford.
Good news for the public transport industry.
That is an awesome car in many ways and you are hilarious and entertaining to watch, something different to what I see in the states. Thanks. Thumbs up.
This car also has a nice acceptable 'future' look to it, not bland like others.
2:55 Matt, the reason why the steering wheel has 4 dots is because 4 dots is "H" in morse code. H as in Hyundai !
This is my favourite EV right now, purely because of the way it looks. Hyundai nailed it with this one.
I love horse and EV's. I would love to see if you could explore the effect on range towing something is!!
The fast lane car and truck channel on youtube do a lot of this - EV range is more or less unusable for long range towing.
@@peglor this is my main reason for not switching at the moment, there are times when I'm towing a small tailer with 4 bikes on the roof on family holidays etc.
I have to get this off my chest. The Ioniq looks like an Opel/Vauxhall Mokka/Crossland/Grandland from the front.
Those rims are dope!! 🔥
And 4.8 in a little, completely silent car is nice too!
I just can't understand the problem with seats 🤷🏻♂️
