Every time I hear a sonic boom over Hannibal I wonder if it's a new Hornet being put through It's paces. I've got to admit though, the Viper is still my favorite.
Canada is looking to replace its' entire fleet of original [or legacy] F/A-18s and one of the front runners is the Super Hornet Block III, which is the reason he is referencing the RCAF in the video. Many reasons for this; twin engines, follow-on continuity with a familiar and reliable aircraft, and the RCAF prioritizes interoperability with the USAF and US Navy. Super Hornet Block III brings a lot to the table in terms of ordnance load-out, technology and of course twin engine reliability over our northern territories when intercepting Russian aircraft. Just an opinion of course, but I think when the smoke clears from the fighter jet competition, the RCAF will choose the Block III over the F-35 and the Gripen. Those are great jets but with only one engine that is a huge disadvantage in this competition considering the vast frontier of patrolling the arctic.
how do you protect democracy with fighter jets? the Americans use this jets to invade sovereign nations disregarding democracy and human rights. there are countries that had no air force for a long time and yet they still have their democracy. the only way you fight for democracy is at the ballot polls
Nope, but the F 35 A, hmh! But, the F 35 A is Better Jet, than the Super Hornet, alltough It is a AirForce Jet and not the NAVY, like the Super Hornet is! But the F 35 A can lift 9 % more, than the Super Hornet and is more stealthy and so on = aso, but It is not yet 100 % ready, like the Super Hornet is and I like the Colour and the looks etc of the Super Hornet more, than the F 35 A and even more, than the F 35 C, which by the way is the NAVY F 35 Version.

@@tubertuber3757 Until the USN either finds a way to easily use the CFTs or that Boeing is able to create a later version of the CFTs which are easier to use. As it is, the Australian Air Force can definitely use the CFTs for their Super Hornets.

I heard a centreline drop tank is being designed for the FA-18 Super Hornet with a very low radar signature. The tank might even be built out of a composite material.
Great piece of kit. Just one question though. Does all these enhancements have any negative effect on its dogfighting skills? Is it a better dogfighter than the previous versions or is it better. I’m not talking about any technical reasons why it would be such as a better radar or a less prominent cross section, I’m talking about the close in knife fight in a telephone box. In close n dirty. If anyone knows I would be happy to hear. Thanks everyone n so glad Canada is finally getting this jet.
The conformal fuel tanks make her a tad sluggish when they're full, but if the weight is reasonable, there is no _real_ difference between a Block II and a Block III.
The Hornet/Super Hornet is a multi-role fighter. It was never designed to be a air superiority fighter, and among the US teen series fighters the Hornet is the slowest and least capable in a dogfight. It is however, a great multi-role fighter with a big tool box of capabilities and missions. The F-35 will progress Naval aviation significantly, and the new blocks of Super Hornets will supplement the F-35’s well into the future. Especially as a tanker, ordinance carrier, and electronic attack platform(Growler).
Despite the pictures, USN will not use the conformal fuel tanks because in testing they brought too many problems for carrier use. They were on offer for new export orders if the customer would pay to finish development, but there haven't been any of those since this video was made, and the Super Hornet line is scheduled to shut down in 2027.
Canada is trying to replace its legacy hornets. There is a competition with the the super hornet, F-35, and the Saab Gripen, both of which are single engine jets. The jets would be patrolling over the tundra and the Arctic ocean, so he is showing how the superhornet has a greater chance of making it back to relative safety if something goes wrong with the engine.
For the layman; Are there any external visual distinctions between the super-hornets & her upgrade ~ Block3? Or, is it all internal? Newer & faster computers/RADARS/Sensors/ etc.? B/c Honestly, I cannot tell a difference. Hornets beautiful, all!
