  • A silent world without air, until an inventor created a machine that changed it all...
The Ikigai Machine is a Virtual Visual Sound Performance Production by Myles de Bastion created during the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic that forced all artists to present their works from home.
Unreal Engine and a make-shift green-screen studio just 5x5' was used to create this work. Addressable LED strips were programmed to illuminate the performer in reaction to the sound-visualizations to help the performer blend into the virtual background. The backdrop shows a virtual projection of the short film "The Ikigai Machine" that was filmed at the Watershed PDX 2-years prior with local Portland, OR Deaf and signing performers.
This Virtual Production was made possible thanks to Project Grant support from the Regional Arts & Culture Council: racc.org/
