One of the best sounding 240p videos I've ever found!
omg... he's the best guitarist I have ever seen. And will be for a long time, most probably for ever ;)
OH MY GOD! look at his hands!!
awesome!
He plays it like a guitar! I like!
beautiful
bloody hell. hes amazing.
I like the dr pepper shirt. and the amazing song.
It's 15 years later (2022) and I'm still listening to this. Great music here by a great artist!
woah!that was amazing!cant beleive that someone can actualy play that good!!
Jake, you're the man!
Jake is awesome
Love this and it brings the Ukelele into the light. Just bought one and ha ha it would take me a life time to play like this and lm old already, lol
Great recording.
amazing bro.
hey I love dr. pepper too... and this guy's playing! Never knew that you can do that on a ukulele... amazing.
133 dislikes? plz stop the planet so I can get off
"Top that suckers!"
Brilliant!
COULD YOU IMAGINE THIS GUY ON THE GUITAR?! HIS SKILL IS INCREDIBLE. HE IS LIKE T.E ON THE UKULELE *bows to Jake*
he woudl easily be an actual Tommy Emmanuel or a Tuck Andress without doubts

That's baby makin music that's what that is
Like,"Wow!," Love it, he's so good! thanks!
Still watching this amazing video in 2020
💕
THIS. IS. AMAZING!!!!!!!
dude its not elevator music it GOD music.
144p?!?! What was wrong with you 2007 stone age people?!
Jake makes the uke seem like a guitar
srsly, it's both amazing and mind-boggling at the same time
I also love the feeling he puts into his playing, good cover :)
Does anyone know the tunings on this version? It definitely sounds different from all his other live performances of this song.
Hmm, I guess that's either improvising or he simply worked on it over a period of time, so it evolved.
You are amazing... I've not seen anyone who handles the ukulele as passionate as you. Way to go, Jake. Good luck.
wow never thought you could play the blues on a ukelele.
you can feel the blues on any instrument.
This is a rock song not blues !
Wady Basir
guess where rock originates from.
Jalal Bin Falah I dont need to guess .rock and roll originates from the blues and country music but as i said this is not a blues song its a rock and roll song!
Wady Basir
the scale he is playing is a blues scale, there's no need to deny.
Brilliant!!!
you do the hokey pokey and shake it all around
This is REAL talent. Well done!
Anddddd that ladies and gentleman is an excellent example of size dont matter, its how you use it!
Wonderful, goose bumps, Love it!
i saw myself in the past... im a proud... or just sad
DAYUM.... Bought a ukulele just now. HAhah ... Eff my guitar lol Ukulele has such a wonderful sound.
I would not say nothing, but seriously, the original is better. It´s way harder to play a guitar than a ukelele btw. People might miss out on that little fact.
Still, jake is fucking good mate. I don´t know why someone would say this is nothing. (even though in his video due to his excitement he kind of changed the time in some parts and it was weird.
Regards,
-gabe_fox
I love it. You should check out The Rugg Brothers on youtube if you love uke. You'll like them. I know I do. Great video! Keep it up!
i still love the version the way it is... i have nothing against jake.. i adore his talent.. but not with this rendition.. im an avid fan of george and beatles as well..ne way thanks for asking bout my opinion.. he almost got it..maybe soon he'll do it the way it should be
Saw 'em yesterday at the local mall-benefit
for kids. Him & his brother announced new CD.
I heard him do a rendition of "Time After Time
(Lauper version)." The range of notes, tone, and control, tears at the heart.
Keep wigglin' Jake, when you're an old fart-
no more wigglin' like a teen!
It would really look less impressive than it really is if the person seeing it had less passion for the art and music. But one who's in the craft would see the passion and artistrty that was put in by jake, and thats what make its very, very impressive. Nuff said.
what im tryin to say is that its in a female pitch.. he should play it on a male's pitch.. key of G its suppose to be like that.. since there's no one singing with him.. just like the rendition of eric clapton... and george harrison is very sensitive to that
Aloha, love the footage of Jake. I just did a show on RUclips on the "Right" or "Conservative" view speaking in favor of the Super Ferry. I will be balancing the show with the view from the "Left" as well. Imua Free Speech. Mahalo
Darnit, I wish you would have videotaped the audience instead of Jake. If I wanted to see Jake again, I would just watch the Central Park clip. I want to see if the audience shares my facial expression of utter amazement.
he's a good ukelele player.. but he's doing it at the wrong key... jake please dont change the original key.. i love this song too much.. your talent is really great.. can you do it on a male's pitch..for george harrison pls..
Show boating?
Please explain. The stuff before the song?
I really don't understand - he's showcasing his talent - how can anything he's doing during HIS solo performance be considered showboating?
His uke plays it all, feel the jealousy creeping... while my guitar gently weeps. With every mistake I must surely be learning- but no! So my guitar sits there and weeps. ;-P
What I'd like to see? Him and Eric Clapton. The only two people that can send shivers down my spine just by strumming anything.
Should have renamed it 'while my ukulele gently weeps'
If you REALLY want to play this song, then put down the ukulele and get a GUITAR which this song was ment to be played on.
Still listening in 2023.
I always thought it was wierd that my guitar had more strings than I had fingers for! In Jake's hands, the Uke is a superior instrument! So sweet, this song.
I remember seeing his first video outside in that park must of been a year or 2 ago.
was going to buy his cd lol!
This is brilliant !
George would love it too - he loved ukulele ... and this is a great ukulele version of one of his songs
what do you mean?
guitar and the uke are totally different.
guitar aint harder.
its like asking a violinist to play a piano.
Oh of course Hawaiians wouldn't accept him. That's why he's won so many Na Hoku Hanohano Awards (Hawaiian grammys) and been voted best Entertainer of the Year by public poll.
He's a 4th generation Hawaiian. How long does a person's family need to live in a country before you consider them as being from there? By your standards, you can't call yourself American. You shd be calling yourself 'a British born in Japan'. Then again, I doubt Britain would want you back.
The thing of it is stage presence encompasses more than posture, and he certainly has one. If you see a recording of segments of his live performance it'll give you an idea of what that is, but not until you actually sit with him before you will you get an idea of it. His demeanor, they way he conducts himself all just has a very positive ambiance. His stage presence is one of friendship and warmth.
"Peace, Love, and Ukulele"
I know that you're entitled to your opinion, but dude, come on, you're passing off your own mandolin based opinion as a purported actual fact, which is a falsity if I ever saw one. And who ever said that Jake is looking to "compete" in any sense of the word? He's just happy doing what he does best, playing the ukulele.
he gets up there and goes, aloha, now, IM THE MOTHAFUCKING KING, WATCH ME WARM UP, ILL SHRED THE FUCK OUT OF THIS UKELELE
but then he goes, look how good i am, i can actually play one of the greatest songs of all time on a ukelele with so much emotion, and flawlessness. I would take my hat off to you jake if i had one on
Shut up lol. The only reason you wont be that gud is if you think that you wont be that gud. He was as skillful as you in one part in his life. Just practice, u can be sickkk. People with talent only means that they will develop faster. Sozz, i jus hate it when ppl put themselves down, looong backstory to it so i wont go into it lol.
Yeah, I saw the little logo, but still, it amazes me how this amazing performer can go so largely unnoticed, oh well... Jake is getting his fare share of attention lately, maybe because of the talk shows he goes to and all that but I wish people supported him even more, Thanks for uploading this though^^
Tell you what.
Those who gives those crappy comment?
They are probably the ones who thinks the "meaningless and corruptive heavy-metal style" is then called interesting.
Towards such hypocrites,
Just have to tell them one thing to shut their mouth:
"This performance (Jake Shimabukuro) is
MUSIC TO THE EARS."
actually I follow the beliefs of tree worship and do not believe in the devil or god. I believe that the spirit of tree's created the world around us and that the great california redwood will rise one day to live out its millenial reign upon the earth where every knee shall bow to it's immaculate and amazing power. the Final day of the Arbole is calling.
what kind of camcorder do you use? And, did Belly Up let you plug in direct?
Well done Jake and videographers! =)
@ChampangeSuperNovaz This is a good performance yes, but he plays that same song, while my guitar gently weeps, later on in life and it is amazing. It should be just to the right of this video and he called it Ukulele weeps by Jake Shimabukuro. You'll love that one. its just as crazy except better.
Great video! I saw Jake play this song at the Blender in NYC and it blew me away.
Apparently, he was in the middle of a Japanese Tour and he flew all the way back to NY to play the show, then left the next morning to return to Japan to continue his tour. A true professional.
I am well aware you were commenting on my tree worship post, to be honest, I wish i was that cool, I am actually LDS but some guy told me i was basically satan worship so that was my response. I was merely changing the subject cause it is a page dedicated to this video.
@RipTheMangarez
I would compare him more to Chet Atkins, but the comparison is understood and liked.
Folks this is four strings. Go listen to a real player on 6 strings!! Wes Montgomery? D'Jango Reinhart? come on.
When we are lucky enough to have a talent of this caliber come along, all that we can do is sit back and try to absorb/ embrace it all in that moment as he releases every beautiful thing form those places inside us all that w/o him could never be reached.
The wonderful world of the internet.. So funny, always the same stuff.. The guys that talk shit (I could do that blindfolded, This sucks, blablabla, I didn't hear anything astonishing and such..) are always the ones without any videos
Hehe :)
weird, people say he moves like a monkey yet I dont see that at all.
He moves his upper body always but more like with the feeling of the music as many good musicians do.
A musician thats carried away by his music is a good thing.
A beautiful song well played will always sound beautiful. For me Harrison has the biggest honor making out of his soul this song, but since Harrison is gone, i can't imagine a better person to play this song but this talented guy.
It's easier to play in front of a large crowd when you are more into to the music and forget about everything, that's also what gives his cover to strong emotion he needs. So yeah playing still you'd be playing like a blank robot.
Mormon's are christian and they are getting pretty expanded as well, maybe not yes as much as catholics or protestants.(plus you can count baptists as seperate i guess since during the reformation protestants and catholic's alike didn't like anabaptists)
maybe it comes from your heart and you haven't planed it but why do you move so much ? another thing, your name is ..hah ..interesting ;)
and you seem to be a nice guitarist , well done
and i have to work more ;D
@babaluboo123 lol right... im just into metal where everyone is goin crazy in flashing lights, just an atmosphere with A LOT more energy. but i love listening to all types of music just depends on the mood.
Hey Michelle, I remember when this was 1080p on Stage6 back in the day. Now that RUclips can do 1080p, mind reuploading the vid for us in HD? I remember it sounding and looking so much better back on stage6.
I saw Jake live and he can get that ukulele to sound like a number of instruments including a piano, banjo and sitar. It was amazing. He signed my uke, but it has since worn off which is just as well I decided.
Anyone else thing that the begging (1:10-2:20)sounds like it could be played using the pentatonic scale on the guitar? could be just me... Anyway Jake is a great musician, hes the reason i started to play the Ukelele.
The guy is great but hes not a stage artist i presume because he doesnt condeuct himself as such. He looks like hes on "air guitar nation" Come on dude. Take a stool, sit, relax and give us great music. hes awesome nonetheless
sorta wish i could get it on dvd... since there's so many footage of jake's playing... i just bought his other 2 dvds, still waiting for shipping on those :)
i didn't know jake played with tommy emmanuel, i love tommy!
Cool uke video.
Also, bet u can't name these tunes in the ukulele medley!:
you tube name the tunes on ukulele
Who knew you could such beautiful and complex sounds out of the ukelele. The guy knows his instument intimately
He is so great that you even forgive him for wiggling like a madman!
I love it.
It's called "FEELING IT"
@kemplerbrave
Either that, or they were too mesmerized by the song and clicked the wrong button :) Me being someone that always sees the good in people think it that they were too mesmerized :)
Yes, While my guitar gently weeps...recorded by the Beatles, and written by the late, and very great George Harrison. Great ukulele version! Mr. Shimabukuro, your the man! thanx to the upoader :)
nothing astonishing?...im sure everyone...( including myself).. is patiently waiting for "stanleyklosrogerscom" to put up a video of him/her doing a cover of one of Jakes renditions on thier ukulele.....
you have to move your body to keep rhythm and timing and FEEL IT you wouldn't know if u don't play and if you don't move while YOU play then you probably play colder than Hillary Clinton in bed LOL
he plays better then the majority of guitarists out there. and he has 2 less strings and half a neck less than us too. also has more feeling then most players out there too. champion
I was skeptical about this when I had heard about it. But oh.. my god... this is amazing.
Shimabukuro totally won me over.
Great work man and I'm looking forward to hearing more.
To be honest, the jazz section at the beginning, while not necessarily more interesting, looks more challenging. The rest is cool but does not seem all that impressive. To me at least.
WOW! How cool is this guy and how talented, I had heard about him but this is the first I have seem of him. I do not impress easily, and I am so impressed. Aloha!
WOW! How cool is this guy and how talented, I had heard about him but this is the first I have seem of him. I do not impress easily, and I am so impressed. Aloha!
I am SO stoked! Jake is playing a FREE concert on 6/28 in Schenectady's Central Park. It's the day after my birthday, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate.
Not that he should be a statue, but it's just so exaggerated that it looks phony, and that gets in the way. By comparison the videos where he's sitting down are superb.
Are you serious? This stuff's absolutely captivating. He has more soul in 4 strings than most guitarists have with the standard 6. Hell I could watch him for hours.
Other people in this league of playing are as follows:
Jimi Hendrix, Michael Angelo Batio, Jimmy Paige, Sam Totman and Herman Li. I'm soryr, but this is really good.
Yes because best guitar player ever=fastest guitar player ever. Everyone knows that! I mean yeah, people class Jimi as the best cos he could play at 220bpm OBVIOUSLY! :)
this song shall be played on my wedding and funeral. too bad i cant be played anymore at my birth.
HE'S SUCH A GENIUS!!! I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE HE'S REALLY DOING IT O___O
