Now that that's out of the way, hi, welcome to a bit of a heavier video! In this video I wanted to touch on some of the arguments made for and against recasts, and I wanted to show a legit and a recast doll side by side for your own comparison. I don't want to judge anyone too harshly for their choices, like I said in the video I realize that some people are in financial situations that don't allow for expensive purchases like bjd, but I did want to get my own stance upon the matter out there and offer as many information as I could from the top of my head in case someone that sees this is still debating it for themselves.

It really depends where you get the recasts tbh. Most recasts are better quality and are larger than legitimate ones. I think legitimate companies need to step up their game, because I bought six dolls to see the difference, and the three recast were a lot nicer. When it comes to buying recasts, if the bjd community weren’t so toxic I’d honestly say just go for it lmao 😭😭
Even if that's true I'd still argue against buying recasts if you can afford a legit, because it's still usually a very small independent company and I'm v much against bigger factories/corporations screwing over independent artists. I do agree that quality control on the artist's side in a lot of cases could be a lot better (see the fairyland quality control debacle, yikes!)
@@dibelgelo please do your research on that, from the top of my head alone I can think of small artist companies that have been recasted, atelier momoni being one of them (and I'm pretty sure that's just one person.) I'm not going to condemn people for their choices as I don't know their situation, but please don't downplay the impact recasts have on an artist operated market such as this one.
@@dibelgelo that is A. Speculation and B. Has nothing to do with the subject at hand. I'm not here to discuss petty drama, I'm here to give information on recasts. If you don't agree, that's fine, I don't hold that against you, you're more than welcome to make your own video on the subject :)
@@dibelgelo google recast bjd and read anything other than confession blogs and please form your own opinion, den of angels is also a good blog to find info on bjd companies, watch videos from both standpoints. The recast argument is a complicated argument and is not going to be solved in a youtube comment debate.

I'd like to make it clear I'm not here to discuss the impact of recasts on the market as having a discussion on it in youtube comments is not going to help anyone. If you're interested in the subject, a lot of companies have accounts on Den Of Angels where you can view their inner workings, and there is a lot of information in facebook groups like BJD addicts as well! I would recommend reading into the issue yourself to form a solid opinion on the matter (also, avoid confession blogs for info). I just wanted to show a comparison between a recast and a legit doll and share info on where and how to get legit dolls! If there are subjects anyone would want a video on, I'm all ears for suggestions! Thanks for watching once again ^-^

Great video, I think you explained recasts really well. The recast is so much smaller then the original. The difference in quality is very obvious when you compare them side to side. I wish there had been videos explaining things When I had started collecting. It's nice to see legit bjd owners on RUclips! 😊

Not always, most times recasts are a lot taller
I've ordered a ResinSoul Xun, I think she's beautiful. I think the newer bodies are pretty decent posers, too. Worth noting also, is that many companies have events/sales where dolls can be bought cheaper. I got a Dollzone fullset recently that I probably wouldn't have bought at full price (then again, that one will take forever to get here XD).
Good point! Also yess, I really think resinsoul is so underrated, yes they are one of the "cheap" companies but their dolls are truly stunning! Goodluck with the DZ doll, I think my friend waited 9 months on hers :') I really want dollzone gray but the waiting time is my biggest hurdle

Super valid! There are a lot of high quality options at every price point, I definitely notice a difference between my legit and recast bjd. If you ever need help finding anything you can always shoot me a dm!
Are the less expensive dolls on Amazon and like, Wal-Mart, recasts?
I actually don't think I've ever seen bjd on Amazon, and I'm European so I'm not sure about Wal-mart! There is a difference between ball jointed dolls and fashion dolls of course, fashion dolls generally aren't recasts, ofcourse there are bootleg barbies but that's a whole different area :) if you want to be sure you're getting a legit bjd, it's best to buy directly from the company that sculpted it! If you're ever searching for something specific or have questions about a specific doll I'm more than happy to help ^^

@@robynndoesstuff7495 I think the ones on Amazon are "legit" but very poor quality dolls. I think they're called something like Eva BJD.
@@codihite2981 I ended up buying two Eva BJDs yesterday and while they haven't arrived I'm really worried now because I have never heard of recasts until after my purchase :(
@@user-we9en5cg7q Eva's aren't made out of resin, but vinyl, so I believe they're original dolls, despite how cheap they are compared to resin dolls.

Do they feel different by touch? Like the legit is more tough and pleasing to touch and does the other feel more plastic?
In this case it didn't matter TOO much but back in the day when I did buy a recast I was unpleasantly surprised with how "fake" it felt and I did not have that at all with legit Mirwen. It depends per doll I'd say. They are less nice to the touch due to the seams not lining up nicely but this will likely also depend per company
Time to sell some stuff on ebay to buy a legit high quality one

If i buy a legit head but buy a body off wish dose that mean my doll is automatically a recast? and won't be allowed to join the community and not accepted on doa?
DOA definitely will not accept you, the community really depends on which community you're joining. I would recommend looking into resinsoul, they have very affordable bjd bodies for around the same prices as recasts!

I think Denver Doll Emporium also is an official retailer for them. Here is the Den of Angels review page where they also specify where they got the dolls: denofangels.com/threads/little-monica-feedback-all.392053/ in case you want to look at the quality of the dolls yourself (I sadly don't own any little monica dolls so I can't help you with opinions on quality)
