The topic of deformity and its running theme in the rouges gallery reminded me of the legends of the dark knight story “Faces” where Two Face kidnaps a bunch of people with birth defects and deformities to make a new society of out casts who reject the world that has shunned them. Then at the end it’s revealed these people have come to terms with their appearances and want to go back to their real lives. It’s Two-Faces equivalent to the “maybe it was just you all the time”.
I know that Joker is iconic but honestly, i wouldnt mind if he dosent end up being the series because that might mean we would have more stories and charaters we never known or heard of before. I think it would be interesting what they would do for the show and Batman without Joker at all
I think the matching suit trio are Penguin henchmen, it's not uncommon for purple to be used with the character and from his silhouette it looks to be a more classic super villain Penguin than more modern mob boss version and it would make sense for him to dress up his goons like in Brave and the Bold.
If I had to guess, the purple on those guys' suits could mean they're Penguin henchmen. And that could mean that Selina is working with Penguin to help him kill Batman, like their partnership in Batman Returns.
One thing I noticed about Clayface in the trailers is his outfit resembles the Shadow. The Shadow normally wears a black cloak, red scarf, and black hat so that could be a nod to the Shadow.
A running narrative is a good idea. I just finished watching "Beware the Batman" and liked how although most episodes could be self contained, you also had Anarky acting as an overarching enemy to Batman. A shame that show never got another season, I liked what they did with a lot of the characters, especially Anarky and Prof. Pyg.
That's an interesting theory about Clayface. i had also assumed the same thing as you had initially about the man with rhe fist imprint on his face. Looking forward to watching this series!
Thinking about what Batman is like in Caped Crusader makes me wonder if the running narrative will be similar to the theme of The Batman that was also done by Matt Reeves in that Batman will gradually realize on how by removing any traces of Bruce Wayne from him it'll only make problems for him and others around him go from bad to worst since his human side AKA Bruce Wayne is what's keeping him from truly going over the edge and that he needs it more then he realizes to both truly heal himself and the city. Especially if it begins to negatively influence people to take the law into their own hands because of how his misguided actions inspired them. Reason I brought this up is because with how the show's Harley Quinn is taking a twisted path of bringing justice and how she's Bruce's personal psychiatrist she could end up being like Matt Reeve's Riddler and be inspired by his actions to bring justice but in a more twisted fashion making it both a personal and gruesome wake up call to Bruce in that matter to put a stop to his current ways and to try to save her from his mistake. If that ends up being the case then it would be fitting for Harvey in his Two-Face mode to point this out to Batman as a way to say "Buddy what you're doing isn't exactly helping people anymore then before especially to yourself. Trust me I got a nasty wake up call on that front a while ago to my face."
On a somewhat unrelated note…will BTAS Alfred ever get a video essay? Since him and Ace are the final members of the Bat Family you’d have to cover, I’m just curious if they’d be combined into one essay or get their own specific episode.
I was going to, but my Robin and Nightwing essays were a bit of a flop, and Batgirl isn’t exactly setting the world on fire. I will do it one day, when views are a bit higher across the board.

I hope this is a faithful adaptation to the golden age of Batman comics, unlike My Adventures With Superman which deviated too much from the Man of Steel mythos by being more like Neon Genesis Evangelion where our hero has been framed and discriminated by a group of hypocritical and delusional government agents. Oh, and also turning Kryptonians into intergalactic conquerors ala Saiyans and Viltrumites.

It looks like this Batman is not a technical pacifist given how he runs over those goons with the Batmobile. Yeah, they could've all survived, but such a maneuver could very well have killed at least one of them and likely lands all three of them in the hospital if not the morgue. Of course, a Batman willing to kill when necessary is not a new idea, as he racked up quite a body count in the '89-'90s live action movies and in certain comics eras, but it is something we haven't really seen for a while.

In short, the DCAU and later cartoons (plus anime, because why not; oh, and even older yet surprisingly well made shows like The Real Ghostbusters up to Season 2 and at least six eps from Season 3 onwards) have spoiled me very much against basic camp, cheapness, once beloved tropes from the 80s and 90s, and other roughshod bits that kids would have enjoyed, but self aware adults won't. That's soul food. Making chicken salad out of chicken you-know-what. I really hope to see these characters pop up in other place, even as just easter eggs for now. They're part of the lore now and who knows they might Onomatopoeia there way into the work of a popular writer/staff.
I must admit I dropped out of the CW shows around Arrow Season 5. With The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Black Lightning, there were waaaay too many shows to watch. I know Gotham Knights isn’t the same continuity, but I didn’t check it out by virtue of being on the same network. I saw their Two-Face, and thought he looked pretty good though.
@@SerumLake That actor is good. He had a lot of carry. Hopefully you'll eventually see it. I can't really recommend it. It's more like maybe I'll put it on in the background. The actors really cared for it and I believe that shows despite a few things falling short. I need to see the main CW universe. Seen some of Black Lightning but god there is so much streaming across many platforms.
Since Bruce Timm is involved, I'll bet my left nut The Joker won't be Jack Napier or some variation of the gangster origin. He'll be the Red Hood/loser comedian, again.
I dunno, Batman driving his car into the goons at that speed realistically should kill all of them instantly. It feels like a lot of the things they are changing in this show have very shallow justifications. I really don't want this to be the "Velma" version of Scooby-Doo with a Batman reskin. Like, you can break with lore and characterization so much you end up flanderizing and degrading the final product. Obviously August 1st and the actual show will tell us, but change for the sake of change is not confidence inspiring.

I know they weren't able to use very specific characters, but I think they did a great job approximating characters like Turner Hayes (Dick Grayson doppelganger/clone/interpolation) and just characters DC clearly didn't care for at the time like Carrie Kelly and Stephanie Brown.
Harvey Dent, can we trust him?
I dunno, Batman driving his car into the goons at that speed realistically should kill all of them instantly.
It feels like a lot of the things they are changing in this show have very shallow justifications. I really don't want this to be the "Velma" version of Scooby-Doo with a Batman reskin.
Like, you can break with lore and characterization so much you end up flanderizing and degrading the final product.
Obviously August 1st and the actual show will tell us, but change for the sake of change is not confidence inspiring.
This show is definitely a product of its time
Every iteration of Batman is.

I've always liked Christina Ricci. But her voice as Catwoman doesn't hit for me.
To bad really, they would've made more money if it were connected to the dcau
Money doesn't really matter, and would you really want this anachronistic show to be set in the DCAU?
:- D
The best DC Batman was the Detective series, all the ones today are all fakes.
Shits all over canon.
This show looks terable
