Don't own a Ferrari and never will; Don't need to know how to service one. Most things you cover are irrelevant to me. However, these videos are so pleasing to watch. Why is that? Keep them coming and thanks for the channel.
Cheers Brian, its a really tricky one for me because obviously these service videos will only appeal to a limited number (mainly that model owners) and as a RUclips channel thats not the ideal with small number views. However part of the reason I started this channel is to help out others owners and take out some of the unknowns of ownership and encourage people to a) buy their dream cars b) drive them
Its really nice for me to hear non owners watching that videos and still enjoying them, so thank you for the comment.
I am a motorcycle guy, no interested in cars at all. But I am here too, enjoying! Thanks for sharing!
Just from what I can see, after reviewing the footage several times, I think you installed your fuel filter backwards. The old filter has the lip on the pointed upwards. But when you install the new one, the lip is pointed downwards.
Found this. Liked. Subscribed. Now I'm just waiting for the belt change... the bane of every 355 owner's existence.
BELTS NEXT? I don't think I have ever been so looking forward to an upcoming youtube video.
al H I know, I can’t wait to see this video.
Great series, you make it look easy. Clearly you don't need to be scared to "play" with your Ferrari. Great work!
Thats the idea Robert, if you take care and take your time its just a car and you can enjoy the ownership even more
Do not have a Ferrari but love the way you take care of yours.
"IKEA fixing Ferraris" a quote I didn't expect to hear. LOVE these vids.
Great work Scott - part 3 will be interesting to see - nice car 👍
Ordered the service kit for my 3.2 Mondial today. Thanks for the shipping break!
Looking forward to part 3 👍🏻
The old coolant looked nice and clean
Yet again more gold, thank you Scott 👍🏽👍🏽
Can you do a video explaining how you became who you are? Where did you start and how did your journey bring you to this point.
Congrats for the videos ! Well done dude !
Your videos do a great job of making the seemingly inaccessible more accessible.
cheers paul
Just catching up on some of your vids. I've got to say the 355, especially the Spider is one of the best looking cars ever. Man... Those lines!! 😍... Especially when you parked up on the drive where the 308 lives and you filmed around the car! Oh yes... And the colour of yours is epic! 😎
Love that colour!
Bro ur a legend... watching from Canada.
Thank you sir
Fantastic videos. Makes one confident to save money to buy these cars.
Great vid
You're the man
thanks for the video, helps a ton !!
thats what i like to hear !!
Enjoyable viewing. That’s the most dramatic music ever to accompany someone pouring coolant into an engine! It was like anti-freeze porn!
ha ha ha ha .... its the sexy pour
Thanks! I'm going to check the right side spark plugs to take care of an SDL light on a 1998 (M5.2). I attached thermocouples and a thermocouple reader, and see the right side cat outlet flange is about 150 degrees hotter than the left!
You’ve just made a lot of specialist Ferrari mechanics upset !!! But you’ve also made a lot of people potentially looking at one of these awesome cars a lot more comfortable. As always knocked it out of the park. Keep doing your thing 👍
Nicely done. Will be doing this on my non Ferrari cars this weekend.
Love the channel, I’m 37 and growing up had a 355 poster on my wall... love watching all the videos, I hope to own one one day and hopefully looking to move out of my flat in Battersea London but trying to find a house with a garage in SW8 is proving tricky with out breaking the bank... need to take a measure tape with me on viewings to measure the garage to make sure a 355 fits in ok!! 😂 keep up the awesome channel mate! Big fan! Good luck with sourcing an f40!!
Watched these a million times!! Awesome. I selfishly wish you could follow up with further ‘diy’ Ferrari owner tasks such as brakes, suspension, surface corrosion.....my 355 is adding up fast!
I always enjoy your videos👍 If I lived in England we would be great friends for sure😆 I’m ripping cars apart 24/7 and I love it😃 I’ve been eye balling a 98 Berlinetta 355 in Red/Tan over here in B.C Canada. Good to know you can get to the timing belts via the fuel tank removal 👍
Great vid ! The only thing I’ve ever done to my car is change the battery in my B5 RS4 ! Just wish I could do more 😂 I’m not very DIY at anything mechanical but I can build a house as that’s my job.
The circulatory system 🤠💯🙏
My granny has been servicing my Ferrari for years 👍
If the spark plug cover comes off without damaging the gasket, and it can be removed from the cover, then all you need to do is either rub each side of the gasket with a lithium based grease untill you see it being absorbed , or you can use vasaline, easy on then next time you take it off, easy off.
Very good video,I saw your ratarossa last year down carfest southeast my F355 was parked 2 spaces away from it
Nice Alex Ive got a pic of your car
@@Ratarossa nice one,I've got a photo of yours as well buddy
This former two Ferrari owner enjoys watching your videos and will continue. Is there a Mercedes SL500/SL550 guy like you on RUclips?
Alex at Legit Street Cars. Ex MB tech
Yes Alex @legitstreetcars is a merc mastertech and has an amazing channel
@@schmidt28117 Thanks, found his channel and subscribed
Awesome videos. Know that a lot of gear heads appreciate these, whether on the 348, 355, or 360. Am I missing Part 3 or is it "in the works?"
Schöne Erklärung
Well done ,,Just one tip ,,I use the same brake fluid pressure bleeder,,,when using this system I think there is no need to submerge the end of the tube because there is no pumping of the pedal / master cylinder...just positive pressure so there is no risk of air going backwards.
More F355!!!!
Can't wait to see the cam belt change..... when are you planning to do this? Nice channel to watch, by the way!!
Another great video taking the mystery out Ferrari maintenance. For your brake bleed section, this looks more like brake fluid replacement. You should have mentoned that and started with replacing all the fluid in the reservoir first, then hooking up your pressure bleeder to purge the system of old fluid. Next, you omitted the bleeder under the bonnet at the master cylinder. These are a pain to do but necessary on a 355. Thankfully we 348 owners don't have them. Lastly, at least with a manual, we bleed the clutch back there on the housing. Can't remember what to do on an F1 car.
Thanks for the Video !! Isn`t there a bleeding nipple on the clutch for brakefluid like on normal manual cars, or how does it work on a Ferrari with F1 Gearbox ?
Looking forward to the cambelt replacement video tutorial on the 355 :-)
Any special torque on spark plugs?
Hi.
Just looking at the filter. Did it go in correct direction? Looked different than one that came out ?
Great write up Scott. When are you going to do a garage makeover? It's a bit scruffy in there :-) Surely some willing sponsors out there for a new floor / cabinets etc
Fuel filter went back in different? There should be an arrow on the side showing direction of flow.
The music at 17:57 sounds like an old 80's porno.... Suits the Ratarossa perfectly!
Great video!
What coolant did you use to fill it?
It looks like Gytasyn G48 came out. An approved coolant for BMW and Mercedes :).
Where did you get the bleeding system for the brakes? Tired of recruiting family members to pump the brakes.
Some time you must make a video , cleaning the engine bay.by the way your 355 engine is very clean.😎
You should cut open the filter to see how much debris was filtered. Thank you again for the one-handed acrobatics!
still got it so will do that
Noticed the coolant you drained was green (and pretty clean! Good job!), but the replacement coolant was blue. I’ve been told that German cars should use blue coolant. Was the previous coolant incorrect for your car? I know it’s Italian, but sometimes I hear blue for European cars in general. Great video. I’m now thinking about a 355. Thanks!
Did you check the gap of each new plug before you put them in?
Got my eye on a very nice 355 here in Oz all i need now is the money to buy it...lol
LOL
Hi, aiming to restart my 355 after six years idle, any advice would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.
Helpful video but, for the life of me I can't crack the nuts on the fuel filter on my 355 to remove it. Even after soaking in penetrating fluid. Any tips?
What?? Not wearing coveralls??? Great stuff!!
Do you know how much it costs at the dealership?.
Does the blue fluid not stain your system?
So could you go thru the fuel line recall fix that solves the issue of these burning up? Thanks
Or you can bring it to a Ferrari dealership where they will do it for free?
Providence! I am the 356th person to like this video for the 355. There is one unlike - 356 likes less one unlike is 355! Jokes aside - well done Scott another cracking vid! #Lockdown #Winning #INeedThatCar
love the quote - "IKEA fixing Ferraris" ! btw, why did you keep F1 and sold the 6 speed? I thought 6 speed is more desired by market.
Good question, the 355 grey was a much better car and low mileage.
@Ratarossa what do u think of the #aftermarket #carbonfiber #airboxes by #Gruppem for the #355
Hey Scott, thanks for the interesting vid's. I was wondering what brand of coolant you use for your "308" engines ? Also I noticed your coolant colour had changed to blue on the 355, was there a reason for that, or was it just preference ? Cheers, Marc- Perth, WA
The coolant looks like Comma Gytasyn G48 (the green coolant). It's the only IAT coolant I've used on my cars (non Ferrari) which has not gone bad within the year. It's OEM approved for BMW, Mercedes and for older Porsche models
I don't know if anyone else has had this idea for a "Ratarossa drinking game" during the lockdown (or after...!), which is to take a shot everytime the term "crush-washer" is mentioned! Don't worry as you shouldn't be driving wither after drinking OR watching any Ferrari-based videos!!
lol
Why did you put blue coolant in when you removed green?
355 one the best Ferrari ever made.
Never seen blue coolant before. Clearly the stuff that came out was green. Is that the right coolant? You didn't fill it with washer fluid did you?
Looks like it’s the opposite way round to the one you took off??
Hey Scott!
I can't believe you didn't film the part when the bottom engine drain plugs came out!
🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
That was the best part of the 'movie' I was looking forward to view!
Great stuff man, as always!
LOL ...messy
@@Ratarossa Yes, all the fun would be on our end...
👍
Why no body protectors?
Why does the coolant look like windshield washer fluid?
Did you put the fuel filter on the wrong way??
It was put back in with a different orientation to how the old was removed???
no you some go that way around you just need to look at the flow arrow and make sure thats correct
I don't think the blue brake fluid is not available any longer.
As someone who loves the F355 (in a gated six speed coupe) and if I stretch I can afford one...the scary part is the major every few so years. So if I could ask one thing, if you can be as detailed and as long of a video when you go do the belts engine in style. Would love to know if this is a viable option for me going forward.
did you watch my 360 cam belts video ....its over 1 hour long
Yes sir I did...a few times actually. If you could make the 355 one as long or longer and very detailed, that would be fantastic. Cheers
May I ask what kind of coolant that is? It looks bright green on the video. All the cars I have worked on so far had a dark green/blue (like BMW's G48) or red/pink (VW G12) coolant.
So I have some questions:
1. With the low mileage you do you add an extra oil protection like slick 50 to keep your valve train lubed?
2. I take it you copper greased your spark plugs or in bare?
3. Paper air filters? No k&n/powerflow options on Ferarris?
4. Have you considered waterless coolant? Reduces system pressure works well in my supercharged Jag...
12:23 How do you remove NGK PMR7A 16mm hex with 10mm socket?
10/12/14mm aren't the actual "across flats" sizes
Looks like you installled the new fuel filter in the opposite direction from the one you removed?
yes some go the other way, as long as the flow is correct
Time of death on gloves..13 minutes :)
Why the change from green to blue coolant? Is that the same concept as the brake fluid or a spec change? Also,... what’s with the two little flags on the center console?
I was thinking exactly the same thing, I thought the colours of the coolant meant something and shouldn't be mixed.
15:09 Looks like the wrong end of a screw just between the camera and the plug.
What do you do with the contaminated rags and the old fluids? Is there a place in the UK to recycle or dispose correctly?
With the fluids my normal practice is to pour the old fluid back into the 5litre container I just used on the new stuff. Then at the local there’s a place to safely put them.
Same thing with shop rags/towels? Sorry to be gormless, but what is the "local"? The local trash dump? Or the local auto parts store where the fluids were purchased?
I thought I was the only person who saved all those stupid little tools and screws from Ikea furniture kits lol! I have a 3L plastic baggy full of them!
Sauce Haus you could probably sell most of those now to my viewers 😂😂😂
Did you alleviate the issue that caused it to go alight
that was an old 355 of mine not this car
4 Ferrari and no hoist to lift them for servicing?
coolant coming out was yellow but the new was blue was that correct?
yes, many different types of coolant available same as brake fluid
@@Ratarossa I thought different colors were for different cylinder head materials
It's nice to be able do to this yourself. But it begs the question whether you should. Considering rising prices of 355's and the fact that any potential buyer is going to religiously inspect the owner's manual and bills (from respected garages) for maintenance, how does "DIY maintenance" affect the price of your car? Unless you bought it for a bag of chips and it's a very high mileage barn find, is it sensible to do usual maintenance yourself?
Its a good question everyone asks and I will address it in a video at some point but basically from 20 years experience. If you want a pristine full ferrari main dealer service history car then thats absolutely fine you will pay a premium for those cars. Then there are good specialist independents that are accepted as good servicing. If you keep all the parts invoices and take pictures during service put all those in a nice a4 history file showing the work has been carried out with the right parts that history file is also worth its weight in gold when you sell a ferrari. I have never had a potential buyer been put off in over 30 Ferrari's that I have owned on service history (if its done right). There are also those would want to buy their dream car and a) worry about the complete uncertainty of maintenance costs on these cars when in some cases with certain dealers its a 'pick a number' bill. b) would like to keep costs down and enjoy maintaining the car themselves. c)want to enjoy there cars (they are made to be driven) and like to know how to look after the car themselves
Obviously if you were buying a 1500 mile garage queen Ferrari, its generally as an investment and those type of cars it's recommended to keep up that cars premium to have a dealer history.
Advanced race derived 5-valve 8500rpm engine -- Using $3 dollar Fram paper air filters..
blue brake fluid is not the original, it is an ATE typ200 or the super blue racing I am no shore, but the fluid is top quality, use liqui-molly oils, just my opinion :)
Sure that is coolant and not WINDEX?
sure tastes the same LOLc
have to wonder, as i watch another delightful episode, if anyone else is cringing as the tools get dropped on that nice looking valve cover.
... just a bit of good-natured ribbing.... sort of. :)
Thats funny as ai was editing the video together I noticed that and thought to myself you guys will be cringing, ill put a rag down in future just to save you all the pain
@@Ratarossa i should thank you for your video production efforts. in that they are very informative, despite the occasional cringing. :)
The coolant you drained is not suitable for Alloy engines and then you filled it with a different coolant without flushing out the system as to 2 coolants are different and am sure neither are suitable for that engine . Also never fill with tap water as it has so many chemicals in it always use distilled water as it will never cause corrosion in the radiators
You don't get enough attention AT ALL.
Most likely common sense, but might want to mention spark plugs are something else that should only be attacked on an ice cold motor. Bad things can happen removing plugs on aluminum engines that are warm.
good point Howard I kind of expect these things to be common sense and overlook it sometimes
k-zoo-Fcar compression tests are not generally done on warm engines. If you pull plugs on a warmed up aluminum headed engine, you may find it tough to get them back in afterward.
Just told James May to watch these as he's promoting crap channels.....just saying LOL!
LOL
Nice video but service on a Ferrari is all about details details en details.......
ruclips.net/video/3lHvaddRxyY/видео.html looks like you fllled the cooling system with screenwash by mistake! ;-)
