One of the finest production engines ever created! Simply magical and musical. F355 and F50 5 valves per cylinder magic. These are so special and love the channel! If I were in the UK i would definitely pay a visit!

I've never seen a driver of an 355f1 without a smile on his face especially when he passes 5000rpm !

Thank you for this excellent video. As an owner of both a manual F355 GTS and a 355 F1 spider, I’ve never understood the negative perception regarding the F1 gearbox. When set up properly, I find it just as enjoyable to drive as the manual. A different driving experience sure, but not worse in my opinion. And the sound…well, it just doesn’t get any better than a 355 on full song. My cars also spend more time in storage than they should, but each time I take one out it feels so special.

These videos are criminally underrated. Keep up the good work and the views will come. Found your channel today from Mr Jayemm and I suspect that will help boost your channel. On another note, I never thought Id hear “Doo doo” and Ferrari in the same sentence, unless referring to the reliability of these 355 F1 systems

As Michael Caine would say "not very many people know this" but..Yamaha developed both the 5 valve system and the exhaust valve for the 355, both straight from the Yamaha R1 superbike programme. Of course Ferrari never admitted to it but, it was Yamaha engineers who were contracted to develop it.

Is this true? Seems like a natural evolution from F1 programme

Thanks for a great video and well explained, I learnt a lot. I have a '97 355 Challenge with the free breathing Bosch 2.7 Motronic injection, non cat, no anti pollution plumbing, no exhaust shut off valve, manual gearbox. A lot less 0:14 expensive to maintain.

A million dollar class by a very classy organization. I almost felt after watching that I was going to be required to answer a few exam questions! Yes, the 355 is a ‘modem’ classic, and one I prefer to the less engaging 488, for instance.
Thanks for a very good video, Mates!

They updated to the 5.2 Motronic because it was able to have OBD2 which is what the USA required post 1996 for emissions. Nice video, always enjoy your posts.....

I knew update was for emissions but didn't realise it was to do with the USA you learn something every day

@@Daylight7.7.7 it may not be all States but definitely California would be one where they use the OBD2 port in part of the emissions test. I was reading about it on one of the Ferrari forums.

It doesn’t matter it’s a junk box it’s beautiful to look at but cost too much money to repair do you need in this amount of cash for this kind of car you can’t be rich you have to be Elon musk rich So I don’t hurt you regardless beautiful car but sad to say it is a junk

@@legendbodywork1313 After three years of ownership of my piece of “junk” I couldn’t be happier with my F355. Average annual maintenance has been around £2,000 (including a £3,000 cambelt change) and the value of the car has gone up by around £10,000 so I’m actually a bit ahead in profit.
Would be interested in what you drive and how much you are in profit (or loss) over the past 3 years when you take in maintenance and depreciation?

16:22 Small error... The *earlier* "2.7" cars had the separate intake pipes with dual MAFs. The car in your video is a later 5.2 with single MAF and engine ECU.

Great cars and I had a great weekend in a 355 I hired for a weekend away in the early 2000's. I'd always go for a manual though as the gear change on a 355 is brilliant.

Thank you another excellent and informative video Ian, you blend the right amount of interesting technical facts with your walk around the cars with the driving experience, brilliant - I have a 328 which is adorable :-) - but the 355 is the pinnacle in my eyes!

Great Video presented with your natural dedication and energy Ian as always. Superb example of 355, who wouldn’t want one, what a drivers car!!
I always thought it looked fun in silver. After 13 years ownership of our manual 355 Spider it never failed to make me howl in joyous laughter as I screamed through the rev range and handling capabilities in those annual summer months. Best regards. Catch you this year.

11:09 Is a seriously complicated gearbox set up. However it was first generation. Will be interesting to see a comparison on the later car maybe the 430 when it has gone through two more generations as to how this works and how more efficient he had to come? You already mentioned they upgraded the pump for the 360 so it will be interesting to see how it got along to the 430 and maybe even the 599

Beautiful cars, especially the profile and rear 3/4 view. I love that the exhaust bypassed the cat at higher revs, absolutely hilarious abuse if the rules. And people are upset about the vw emissions scandal.
