In this Jakarta street food video, I was hanging out with Ken, who is a local Indonesian food blogger. We first went to a Sudi Mampir Restaurant to specifically eat a dish called sop kaki kambing, which is a famous Indonesian goat leg soup. It was an awesome place, with counter style seating, and there’s was a butchery in the back. They had all the different parts of the goat, all pre-boiled and ready to be ordered. To order sop kaki kambing, you first choose the different items that you want in your bowl, and then they will chop them up, and fill your bowl with the soup broth. We had a mix of just about everything included testicles, brain, and goat feet. It was a pretty intense bowl of goat soup, but it was also amazingly good.
In addition to eating sop kaki kambing at Sudi Mampir Restaurant another Indonesian street food they serve at Sudi Mampir Restaurant is sate kambing, which is goat sate (satay). They were definitely the best goat sate’s that I had during my time in Indonesia.The pieces of goat were so tender and juicy, and grilled over an incredibly high fire heat. Then they were served with an amazing pureed peanut sauce, and some diced up chilies and tomatoes for garnish. The combination was incredible.

After with finished with the sop kaki kambing, we headed over to Martabak 65A, which is one of the legendary names when it comes to the famous Indonesian martabak manis. Martabak manis is a sweet waffle type of dessert, which is filled with a variety of toppings, including chocolate, peanuts, and cheese. My favorite part of going to Martabak 65A was watching them make the martabak, by making a gigantic waffle, and then just absolutely filling it with topping and loading it with butter. I’m not really into sweets myself, so it was alright, but I was pretty happy with just a couple bites. I did enjoy the cheese version. It’s such an intense Indonesian street food dessert, that’s it’s a must try when you’re in Jakarta.

Hi Mark, fascinating video as always. Sop kaki kambing is one of favorite dish in Indonesia. Can't wait for the next video! If you got the chance, please visit Bandung to taste original Sundanese dish. My recommendation: Nasi Bancakan in Jalan Diponegoro.

There are 2 kinds of Martabak in Indonesia, the sweet ones and the salty ones. In this video is the sweet one.
The salty martabak in Indonesia and Mutabak in Middle East is almost the same i guess. The different is the topping inside them.

Martabaaaakk... You went to one of the best places. Martabak is like a family dessert for Indonesians, because you can't eat everything by yourself. In my family, having a martabak means sitting together in the dining table and share our stories. That's the beauty of this dessert.

hi mark, me and my husband usually eat goat leg soup at karet, the place is similar with sudi mampir, in a tent beside road, (kaki lima), but the place me and my husband usually eat are Sop Kambing Abang Ya'Qub and Sop Kambing Abang Karim, and we usually eat goat satay only with sweet soya sauce, without the peanut one (well, it's all about taste) and martabak 65A pecenongan is really famous, btw i love your facial expression when you enjoy something delicious😊

for sop kaki kambing my recommendations you should try sop kaki kambing dudung roxy,it's more original. so long quee,and you can choose yourself what you like and pick it yourself, and for sure sop kaki kambing the soup is not come from coconut milk but use milk.

The cheese, chocolate, butter cake must be Dutch fusion. I don't think Indonesians had cheese before the Dutch.
cheese and chocolate sprinkles are from a recent development. If you pay attention to the menu that they have on the video, you'd notice that we also have versions with Nutella, Toblerone, Kit Kat, Red Velvet, etc., and they don't have anything to do with the Dutch, it's just what we call a 'modern twist' 😆 The traditional version would only have sugar, nuts, and shredded coconut as toppings.
Lots of Asian cuisine that incorporates cheese in their food, was brought over by Europeans or Americans...that's pretty much a fact in history...google it up..many dishes have had their basic origins from another nation(s). Vietnamese Pho, is one of those type of dishes, perfected by them, probably a French dish variant. Another one is Pizza, which was probably brought over from the Middle East and Greece, but perfected by the Italians. BBQ, from the Carib Indians, perfected down here in the Southern US. List is endless. Blending of cultures....so as the world goes round.
+Jabarten Pho is a variation of a French dish? Wow? Which one? I thought it was a variation of a Chinese noodle soup dish cause it tastes aloft like a Chinese noodle soup dish. I think the Chinese brought Pho to the more primitive Vietnamese kingdoms in the pre-colonial era, maybe along with Bhuddism.

Goat is delicious, its my new favorite cut of meat. There's a Caribbean food truck near my place that does curried goat with rice and its amazing. I always get extra Scotch Bonnet/Ghost Pepper sauce to compliment it.
