My issue with the Nephrekh "push button to blow up star" thing is that it's a plot cul-de-sac. Due to the high risks involved with it, GW can never pull the trigger on it. They will never destroy their own setting, unless destroying the setting to reboot 40K is the actual plan (like what they were probably planning to do after Gathering Storm, until they got cold feet). Just want to say I’m very impressed by the effort of this podcast. There’s clearly been a lot of effort that’s gone into researching several of the topics and clear thought for the editing. Particularly editing out any over lap in conversation is a lot of work and sounds great for the format.
Novokh woke up from their who knows how long slumber and just chose violence, and you know, I respect that. I like these hour long propaganda pieces. very fun.
Twice Dead King: Ruin was the first 40k book I read (aside from a sample of Ciaphas Cain) and it utterly blew me away. I didn’t expect Infinite & Divine to be better, because I honestly couldn’t imagine how it realistically could be better. In fact, I’d contend that-depending on what you’re looking for-Ruin is on par with Infinite & Divine. It’s just intensely creepy and psychological and personal in a way I didn’t imagine Necrons could be. Which is all to say: yes to an Ithakas dynasty. A thousand times yes.
It might have been said before somewhere in these comments but the machine they are talking about at like1:03:30 is called the celestial orrery and is a scale model of the universe that is guarded by the Oruscar Dynasty who keep it on their crownworld, Thanatos. In short they act as the universes garderners keeping the population of stars/solar systems stable while ensuring it is not misused. They have a rival dynasty, Kardenath, that would use said machine to destroy those pesky lesser races so ofc the dynastys fight each other! I know to much about the little tidbits bc I run a custom Oruscar dynasty using Pitiless Hunters and Healthy Paranoia dynasty rules!
Nephrekh I thought was also the idea of a dynasty that had the idea of rather than returning to flesh wanted to further ascend to become beings of pure energy. And honestly if this is true plus the whole defending the super weapon thing, then degrading into a flayer virus corrupted subfaction may be fun since it seems that they likely have a above average self opinion since all of their lore seems to scream "we are morally and objectively better than you" plus it could be justified as a side effect of going energy mode briefly over long periods of time, like small warpings of how they remanifest into metal driving them mad. I honestly just want something done with them because the blue and gold look is one of my favorites and the idea of wraiths made of light manifesting out of nowhere and marching through the wall just seems badass in concept to me.
I play the Szarekhan Dynasty beacuse I like the colour scheme and the lore of it being The Silent King's own dynasty too. It's why I call my army "The Heralds of The Silent King"
There is a reason I love novokh. I was in the middle of a losing game, made some pretty bad misplays throughout (didn't get a 5th of my 1000 point army up the board quickly) however my opponent couldn't crack through me at all. It took his **entire** army's worth of shooting and several command points to get down my single squad of skorpekhs. When my lychguard finally got into combat they took out a character (that I'm pretty sure shouldn't have been able to get into melee since he moved models **out** of engagement range to get him in there) and finished off a tank. We had to call the game early but I know for certain that I was just about to turn the tide in my favor.
While I agree, Nephrek is the weakest faction, the bonus is consistency especially in melee heavy armies. The downside of not being able to shoot is not really a downside for melee units. Especially at the end game most of Warhammer becomes a "move into position and hide game", where a constant 6 advance can be a golden ticket.
I could see the teleporting dynasty being obnoxious in a silver tide style army where they just cover the board and if you are fairly elite they can just contest every objective all at once. As a Khorne boy I could see them being a nightmare for my list. But obviously anything with solid shooting and not hyper elite should push them off fairly quickly
Wow, ditching on my Nephrekh bois! Ouch! They are struggling currently but they are FAST. I just wish they could actually do damage in addition, but meh, next Ed maybe. Lore wise I love their Buddhist Nihilist theme, unlike the rest of the Necrons looking to go back to bodies of flesh. These guys are looking to sublime into beings of light and become the next star gods.
You REALLY undersold the Novokh lore. They had a ritualistic attitude to combat, bathing in the blood of the enemies that they cut into pieces. They aren’t just “the bad guy bad guys”. Oh I guess I should’ve waited before I wrote this comment because god damn, you’re just flat out wrong about the Nephrekh dynasty.
Somehow this made me feel like the game is called Imperium 40K and not Warhammer 40K. I was kinda interested in Necrons, but GW "half-assing" the rules (rules not in line with the subfactions, glaring brain farts, etc.) and still eternally present Adeptus favoritism makes me kinda sad. Feels like a game for Space Marine vs Space Marine, with some discarded piles of Xenos in the corner to bring "color".
You should have a rule with Trazyn where you can take any faction as allies, but every time they roll a 1 the mindshackle scarabs malfunction and they attack you instead. This is absolutely be a terrible but fun option if something like this is ever done.
I relate to Trazyn so much... my plan for getting into 40k was to build his vault, but if this was an actual rule, I might be more interested in actually playing!
I got a list that's also focused around Kanoptek and Destroyer units, though mine is focused more around the Spyders supplemented by Chronomancers. (running rad-wreathed with the pre-game move as the dynasty) Fun fact: a fully decked out spyder is worth the same amount of points as the reanimator, and you get 12 18" assault shots, five strength 8 melee attacks, a psyker deny, a repair module if you run vehicles, and the ability to revive a scarab base every turn. Also the fact that they're elite now means that they're not competing with the (actual) heavy support options for space anymore, which was the main reason people ignored them in the past.
This has made me start looking at necron combos and I think I have something with potential: Pick Novokh as the dynasty Get a Technomancer and give them a canoptek control node and a fail safe overcharger. For relic and wargear you give them the veil of darkness and implacable conqueror. Get a unit of 3 canoptek spyders and give them all particle beamers (or don't, this part is optional) What am I doing with all of this you may ask? Well I want a nice meaty melee phase with some spyders. They hit WS/BS on 4+, not great. Technomancer with the CCN gives them plus 1 to hit. So now they hit on 3+. In shooting, 3 spyders with beamers will get you 36 shots, hitting on 3s, at S6 0AP and 1D. Not too bad, will get a few wounds out. But that's not what I'm raving about. What I am raving about is the fact that with the CCN they get +1 to hit in melee, the Novokh stratagem and the fail safe overcharger gives each Spyder 1 extra attack respectfully. So now they have 7 attacks each, a total of 21. Using the veil of darkness on the technomancer and the spyders (who are core. Who knew?) you can get them up the board. If they charge, they get +1 to charge due to Novokh, and rerolling charges because of implacable conqueror. If they make the charge they get an extra pip of AP on their attacks, and if you have the hungry void as your main command protocol (recommend using it all game), you also get +1S on melee with the potential of even more AP on 6s to wound. So at the end of this, for 315pts in total, what do we have? We have 21 S9 AP-4 D2 attacks that hit on 3s all on a successful charge, with rerolling charge and +1 to charge, all on models with 6T, 6W and 3+ save which can also be revived by the technomancer. I don't know what you could really use this for other than taking down big blobs of armoured enemies like marines and terminators, or against vehicles and such like a kastelan or a tank. I just think it's a neat combo that I'll be using on a few friends. Edit: The fail safe overcharger actually adds d3 attacks to monsters, which spyders are. So you're hopefully getting more with this combo
This would probably be horrifically broken but imagine if Trazyan as a rule could have one ally from any faction. But if they succeed too hard on a moral check they turn on you.
Started playing around with custom dynasties and rad wreathed + 6’s autowound in melee in my current favourite. It feels so good to swipe at a bunch of marines with whip coils, get a bunch of wounds and then go on to wound on 2’s.
I am pretty new to necrons, and decided to go with Novahk since they were so simple, and a much different vibe from my complicated, seal team 6 deathwatch stuff. Sometimes becoming an imposing, melee monster is a great change of pace.
The star destroying weapon just called the celestial ornery and as its own dedicated dynasty to protect it that isn't among the 6 primary ones so ya they don't even got that
Mephrit is the Dynasty I painted and play my Necron army. Fun fact, there isn't a photo of a single model painted as Mephrit in the entire codex. Some things I have learned with my Silvertide Mephrit that I play for fun. Twenty Warriors with Gauss Reapers were never that concerned with Armor of Contempt. What they are concerned about is getting tagged in melee. So, I find the fall back and shoot at -1 protocol (Conquering Tyrant) the most useful as the game long one, since the Royal Warden can't be everywhere. I do agree that the Conduit of Stars relic isn't especially impressive. Though, I do take it to make my Royal Warden seem more scary. And the Mephrit's Warlord trait is a puzzler. I usually take Immortal Pride on my Overlord to keep Combat Attrition in check. Because even with Leadership 10, it's easy for an opponent to junk a bunch of Warriors when they are in squads of 20.
You mentioned a list I just thought of last week. I’m a new Necron player (WarHammer in general). I didn’t know shit about Warhammer, but thought Necrons looked kool so I dropped a bunch of money and now I have everything. Well I did a two Ctan 2 plasmancer mephrit list with 10 death marks. I wanted everything to dish out mortal wounds. I did a lot of mortal wounds. It was fun. I need to tweak the list, the death marks did a little bit of work, but I may swap them for something that can get on an objective.
If you buy more (any?) Necron Warriors, get the 40K Recruit Edition rather than buying a Necron Warriors box. You are paying almost if not exactly the same amount of money, for way more models. Even if you never paint the Space Marines, you can sell them on ebay. It's considered the "correct" way to stock up on Warriors.
I started playing Crusade recently and I decided to make a Royal Warden with the Conduit of Stars the warlord of my Mephrit dynasty "shoot all of the things" list (mostly to do something different from my usual Novokh list). This is normally where I'd try to sell someone on the idea, but frankly he's garbage (seriously GW, at least give our garbage HQs an invuln save). Still fun as hell though.
Joined this hobby towards the end of 8th. When I read the Mephrit snippet of lore, all I just imagined was just like a cryptek trying to shove a sun into the guass flyer for that extra AP. Ever since then I have played the Mephrit dynasty.
I'd been running Rad Wreathed and Healthy Paranoia for my Necron Dynasty when I started. Swapped to Paranoia and Eternal Conquerors for about a year, now I had to backpedal to take Rad Wreathed again. I like the mix of shooting and melee I can get out of it and the fact that my warrior blobs run up to most enemy infantry in a charge and wound on 2s or 3s is absolutely hilarious.
I like Novokh the best as I have love my wraiths and ophidians (but still not as much as I love my void dragon) but have been playing mostly Szarekhan as my collection is still mostly everything and anything. It is nice to have a sub-faction that works for any list.
Novak is a lot of fun with the Destroyer Cult AoR, give a Lokhust lord a Blood Sycthe and the tesla melee warlord trait and pray for rolling at least one six. Depending on how well you spike your rolls you can just outright murder a whole squad of marines
For Nephrik it says specifically that you can not shoot not charge. Also this is a Translocation move not a traditional advance so you should be able to long bomb melee units through everything.
Szarekhan has a lot of depth. If you take their Favored Command Protocol as your all game Protocol, every model gets 2 Wounds in the Command Phase, their Relic is actually great. You get 4 Directives if you are within 9" of your Warlord. You get your 2 from Legion of the Undying, and any Core within 9" get both directives. Reanimation rerolls all game is great. Then as you mentioned, their Warlord Trait Triarch's lets you take Novok's Protocol twice or Mephrit's which Synergies with Szarekhan's each unit rerolls 1 wound roll once per phase with 6 Wounds take Doomstalkers combined with Protocol of the Eternal Directive 2 and Overwatch on 5's each time a Dynasty unit is charged within 6"? Sentinel Construct says th e Doomstalker is treated as being charged as well. For Mephrit I would take a CCB with Merciless Tyrant.
Guys. Thank you. I'll come forward and admit to only ownig 2 models and don't intend to buy more. Moreover, I've only ever played about 3,5 games of W40K, one of which was 2nd ed way back in the 90s. And yet, here I am bingewatching your vids and enjoying myself. :) Good job!

I liked the ork episede much better. There you realy felt like you want to make people play orks, and show they are fun. This episede its fun for getting to know the rules but I don't really fell compeled to try any of this subfactions, I was not hyped for any of them...
I want to play the MW power spam Necron list... but I really don't think it's worth doing. Care to convince me otherwise? For now, I just have to sit here and contemplate if I pick up Grey Knights or Thousand Sons to round out my Custodes and Knights.
As a Necrons collector I'll never forgive them for not offering the Transcendental C'tan as a stand alone purchase. I'm not getting a freaking Monolith for one! Lmao
My dynasty is affectionately called the “gilded dynasty” by everyone who isn’t in it, as well as being the butt of every joke thrown around a tomb world. With a leader who is a cross between starscrem and dr. Nefarious who’s only claim to fame is cracking the silent kings command code and gathering a small number of necrons out of TSK control except himself and after the great sleep he forgot the password
I like custom subfactions a lot, but I understand that they were usually either too good or not nearly good enough, and I accept that their removal from the game in 10th is for the best. 😔
Honestly, every time I listen to Trazyn or someone mention it in I&D I'm like "Yep, that's how it's pronounced." then I immediately go back to pronouncing it wrong.
interesting listening to this now in 10th Ed before the new codex, and dynasties do not exist any more. I'm really hoping they do more with the destroyers
Brad just does not understand that AdMech have 10 000 year old stuff or just printed stuff while Necrons have 60 million year old stuff that a bit rusted that is why when you bonk some one with it, it does very little damage in melee.
Watching your 5h movie in a row to check the temp of 40k right now(before i jump again) as last time i played in 2008 and new models look realy cool - I have played Necrons with as you said "bouble auras" - sold the army. My gut sais - "do not do it man, WG wants the money but decade later the game is still bit of a mess" - gun that replaces non existing gun(classic- if not space marines they wont notice- see flavour text for vanquishers mask), still cannot match lore with rules or use common sense, nevermind the balance as i never was tournament enthusiast. The atmosphere of which literally and figuratively was bad at least in Poland. :) Keep doing your thing. Cheers!

Would love to hear how you made your custom flayed ones!
They have fewer neighbours than when they moved in... 😁
@@EthanKristopherHartley took me a second to get that 🤣. Bravo to you
Speaking of the twice dead king stuff, that was my idea for a custom army when the funds come...
Damn already at 12k subs.
It's been quite the month! lol
(running rad-wreathed with the pre-game move as the dynasty)
Fun fact: a fully decked out spyder is worth the same amount of points as the reanimator, and you get 12 18" assault shots, five strength 8 melee attacks, a psyker deny, a repair module if you run vehicles, and the ability to revive a scarab base every turn.
Also the fact that they're elite now means that they're not competing with the (actual) heavy support options for space anymore, which was the main reason people ignored them in the past.
TY for the upload!
I wanted to play Necron but the TSL "glitch" right after AoO made me chose space elves instead 😂
This has made me start looking at necron combos and I think I have something with potential:
Pick Novokh as the dynasty
Get a Technomancer and give them a canoptek control node and a fail safe overcharger. For relic and wargear you give them the veil of darkness and implacable conqueror.
Get a unit of 3 canoptek spyders and give them all particle beamers (or don't, this part is optional)
What am I doing with all of this you may ask?
Join Novokh! We’re like khorne for people who hate demons!
Fingers crossed for the Severed getting rules at some point. Kind of a 40k take on the Borg.
Nihilakh and Nephrekh is what i play for Army and Kill Team respectively, they simply have the best colour schemes!
The star destroying weapon just called the celestial ornery and as its own dedicated dynasty to protect it that isn't among the 6 primary ones so ya they don't even got that
oruscar dynasty
"The red subfaction is the melee one, unless you're Orks, then it's the fast one" OR ELDAR
A while bunch can be found in a supplement, and I'm pretty sure some of those photos are in the codex...
Waiting for them to give us a Maynarkh Dynasty
@@Bluecho4 This is a great piece of advice I'd forgotten since I was getting the new warriors early-edition.
Got a sad chuckle from this. You had me in the first half.
I just finished my necron monolith and I’m so happy, needs to paint it
Joined this hobby towards the end of 8th.
I feel old now, I remember when those 'old, ugly finecast' models were new releases and how cool they were.
What're your thoughts on the two Armies of Renown? They do go into that whole "Destroyer focus" and "Cryptek/Canoptek focus" thing
Kinda bold to say "We don't get those imperium updates every 5 minutes" to, of all things, the Grey Knights player

Indeed I am reading this, o mysterious editor
My first army was "rad wreathed" before there was rules for it. They were called Thokt in 8th and had codex lore, but no rules.
Found this video to try to narrow down what direction to go while I wait for my Codex to come in, Novokh be sounding -spicy-
ya'll make such great, high quality content, that it baffles me that you aren't more popular.
Good job!
Thank you, that's really nice to hear. It really means a lot to see comments like this one. Possibly even more so than people who are enfranchised and enjoy us.
Also, Nihilakh has the best color scheme, teal and gold just FEELS very egyptian
Uhm ahctually, there's a couple of books with the silent king - The Word of The Silent King, and Shield of Baal. They're available from the black library.
I liked the ork episede much better. There you realy felt like you want to make people play orks, and show they are fun.
This episede its fun for getting to know the rules but I don't really fell compeled to try any of this subfactions, I was not hyped for any of them...
Sounds like Nephrekh should be good at defense, bodyguards, overwatch, heavy weapons, and rerolls.
Sautekh is the correct choice, because Immotekh is a chad
Novokh is going to be my first ever army
Where can i find details of this parking lot list?
I almost regret trading the necron half of the 9th edition launch box for another marine half.
It is hilarious to look back at this now and see them wanting a Canoptek Court.
I was hoping for this! TY
I want to play the MW power spam Necron list... but I really don't think it's worth doing. Care to convince me otherwise? For now, I just have to sit here and contemplate if I pick up Grey Knights or Thousand Sons to round out my Custodes and Knights.
So I want to know would it be cool looking if I painted Necrons thousand sons blue, Abaddon black, white scars White and silver.
That's literally half the Nihilakh colour scheme lol
I wanna play Nihilakh because I assume I can only have Trazyn as a Nihilakh.
MTG Warhammer Necron Precon was fun
I am so waiting for a video about I&D!
As a Necrons collector I'll never forgive them for not offering the Transcendental C'tan as a stand alone purchase. I'm not getting a freaking Monolith for one! Lmao
Love your guys’ show, even though you think Dark Angels are boring.
Update for 10th edition, when?
My dynasty is affectionately called the “gilded dynasty” by everyone who isn’t in it, as well as being the butt of every joke thrown around a tomb world. With a leader who is a cross between starscrem and dr. Nefarious who’s only claim to fame is cracking the silent kings command code and gathering a small number of necrons out of TSK control except himself and after the great sleep he forgot the password
I like custom subfactions a lot, but I understand that they were usually either too good or not nearly good enough, and I accept that their removal from the game in 10th is for the best. 😔
I just started playing war hammer and my first army are necrons
I love the crons, the codex is unfortunately awfully made. But their lore and (some of the) models is so coool!
As someone who listens to the audiobooks, it’s weird to hear people pronounce Nihilakh as “NI-HILL-ICK” instead of “NI-HIGH-LACK”
Honestly, every time I listen to Trazyn or someone mention it in I&D I'm like "Yep, that's how it's pronounced." then I immediately go back to pronouncing it wrong.
11:00 Szarekhan: “Old as Hell” instead of “Old as Fuck”
interesting listening to this now in 10th Ed before the new codex, and dynasties do not exist any more. I'm really hoping they do more with the destroyers
Brad just does not understand that AdMech have 10 000 year old stuff or just printed stuff while Necrons have 60 million year old stuff that a bit rusted that is why when you bonk some one with it, it does very little damage in melee.
any chance of an Ep on the Guard codex when it drops?
Yeeees i love my egyptian, zombie, terminator, god slaying, archeologists 💜
00:51:06 "Holy shit is anyone reading this? What a gigantic flavor text." lol
I always thought Sautekth was the Vanilla Necron.
A knight of house bobby is happy
Video is good for my paint
Cheers!
Just seeing this now. And you guys really make me want to play necrons.
I like to try healthy paranoia +3 rng and Pitiless hunters, for full rapid fire from a whole bunch of immortals w/ guass blasters. A poor attempt and long range guns I suppose, but AoC is gone so they can feel your -2 ap again. All 33in of it!
