I bought one 30 years ago when they first came out. I got it from a shop in the Edgeware Rd for 60 quid in London and and took it back to Australia to use against target pistols that cost upwards of $1000au. It performed well. I didn't set any records but it was FAR more accurate than me and was a heap of fun. The trigger was great.
They came out even before that. I used to use one weekly when I was 6, and I'm over 39 now... :) It was thrashed when I got my hands on it too.
Great review. I have the Beeman P17 myself ($50 in Canada) and it is insanely accurate to about 10m and not too bad out to 25m (tin can at that range). Have been using it pretty much daily for a little over 2 years and with occasional o'ring changes has been fantastic. Always love the reviews, thanks.
When your heart says HW75, but your wallet says Gamo Compact...
The brain says no :p
Got one of these last month to use for target practice in the garden, find it to be accurate and decent value. I did find the trigger to be a touch heavy out of the box. Took the grip off and found very little grease on mech, much better after grease applied. Also have the cheaper P17 Beeman, HW 40 clone, great little pistol for £65 but the finish reflects the price. Mrs AAR just to let you know you’re not the only one to get your T shirt caught!
I got my GAMO COMPACT 18 years ago...still works no problems at all. 👍👍
I did buy my Gamo Compact in 2010 and is still my favorite single stroke pistol. I had a HW but sold it did not liked it.
I do have the Beeman P17 single stoke pistol and I am in love with it.
I have the original ASI compact which is at least 20 years old now. It does look slightly better on the grip. I find it really comfortable to shoot. I recently got it out again for my son to use and was pleasantly surprised it still puts pellet on pellet at 6-10m and over the chrono has still held its power. I tried many flat head pellets through it when target shooting and Hobby always came out on top! Great for me as they were one of the cheapest. Great review as always
I have the Beeman P17 and it is very accurate. I dont use it any more as I am suffering from arthritis in my hands but having great fun with my Colt Peacemaker and CP1M. Great vid as usual
I really like this pistol! I've shot it a few times and it is very comfortable in the hand, even with the unfinished wood grip. It gives my Baikal a run for its money!
Exactly the review I was waiting for! I was looking for an affordable match gun and drooling over the 6004 FAS, but simply couldn’t find it anywhere. So fortunately I found this one 🤗 The match grip fits my hand perfectly out of the box, accuracy is spot on and the build quality is impressive for 235 EUR. I am happy with my purchase and hope to enjoy it for a long period!
Good video. I have a Gamo PR45 I purchased years ago, very accurate but not a powerhouse. You're right about keeping your fingers out of the way when cocking!
The trigger pull can be lightened by doing a very small amount of work on the hole the trigger adjusting screw is in. Mine is at 1 pound of pull now. Smoothing the sear and release etc plus a nice bit of greasing, gives it a really nice two stage crisp release.
We all know, at the very end it's a matter of personal taste, and budget. I don't have the GAMO Compact, but the P-900 IGT and PT-85. Must say GAMO's products are excellent quality.
I've had that Gamo for about 10 years now, so I' a bit familiar with it. A few observations; pumping it a few times before inserting the pellet will slightly increase fps, even if it is not a multi-pump gun. I do not know why, as it shouldn't really do so, but mine does. About the rear sight, the width of the blade opening (or whatever it is called) is also adjustable, in addition to windage and elevation. An interesting feature, not seen too often on other airguns. And finally, it is absolutely true that the grip will need a bunch of whittling and sanding to become comfortable, but it is worth the effort. The gamo is the most accurate short gun in my collection, by far. Thanks for an other excellent review, and greetings from Finland!
So, it's basicly Gamo PR45 that I own and I don't find it's enough for target shooting. It hasn't got enough power to make clear holes in the target. 5J pistol makes nice holes with target pellet. But I must admitt - it's very accurate.
I really love your videos, it helped me choose my first gun and will help me with all material yet to come. Keep it up, it's very educative.
I loves my Gamo Compact. Me and 2 other friends bought 3 of the Air Venturies a few years ago, unfortunately 2 of them leaked within 3 weeks. Thankfully, Pyramyd Air refunded us on the 2 duds. The one that survuved is still shooting after 4 or 5 years of use. I really hated to surrender mine back but I was concerned about getting a replacement as 2/3 failed. That being said, the guns are extremely accurate, very comfortable to shoot, light ,great trigger and a blast to shoot.
I've owned all three of these pistols over the years, the zoraki is too loud and the grip is not suited to my hand and the hw40 having fibre optic sights mean it can't be used in comps but is nice, the gamo is the most suitable by far once to have adjusted the grip to suit and I found if you take the trigger spring out from under the clear plastic cover under the grip and give it a little stretch it makes the trigger pull much lighter which combined with the adjustable rotation on the trigger blade makes it a dream to shoot👍
Yet another cracking video, I was waiting for one of you to get your T shirt caught :), stay safe and keep em coming.
Bought my first Gamo 30 years ago, on my second one I've had for 10+ years :-)
More outtakes please Andy 😂😂
I have an HW75, lovely bit of kit.
Great review as always Andy!
For me, the Artemis/Zasdar PP700SA is 'King' of the pistols in this category. Sure, you need a dive cylinder or pump to charge it, but I get over 110 full power (5.4 ft/lb) shots in .22 per charge. (Much less effort than a 'pump up'. Also, it only costs 50p to fill it up at my club if you don't have your own kit.)
I have a choice of open, scope and red dot sights. A Swift Stumpy silencer completes my package. Bolt on the folding shoulder stock, and you have a VERY versatile pistol that is super accurate, and can deal with 20 yard vermin without a problem.
Overall, I don't think you could buy a better pistol in this class!
Keep up the great job Andy.
Morning Andy...well thats the review done best get of to work. Great job as always, love these Friday morning reviews.
My Beeman loves the taste of T shirt in the morning tastes like victory.
Really good nice piece, i've bought it in 1990 😀). Very smooth and pleasant to shoot. 👍👍
You and your wife remind me of that couple in ‘Tremors’ , who loved there guns lol
Zoraki Alecto is the best gun I've ever , owned
Thank you, You are both really good shots!
I enjoyed your review. I did not consider the Zaraki because it is about $100 more expensive than the V10. I did try the HW40 which is sold under a different name in the US. It was almost as accurate at the V10, the trigger a tad heavier but the biggest negative for me was that the HW took a lot of effort to close the pistol. They claim 25 lbs of force but it was more like 30. The V10 was just under 20 lbs and more better for my 70 year old hands with a touch of arthritis. I was lucky enough to find a reputable air gun dealer (Pyramid Air, Solon, Ohio) that was selling a refurbished one with a new warranty for only $200 (~ £140 ). If anything goes wrong in the first year I can get it repaired or replaced by them.
I have the HW40 and 45, great pistols.
Awesome review guys 👌🏻
Great review. as always Andy.... and thank you. I've got the HW40 (amongst my ever growing collection) and what a pistol .. I've even fitted a budget 2x20 pistol scope to it. and it stays on zero. which has surprised me..what with the pump action ect.. and we've had her out to 20m with no problems at all.... for pure value for money the hw is the bizz. thanks again Andy. I look forward to Friday mornings.... keep up the good work and keep safe... regards Dave....
@@POINTSOFAIMcheekyscouser hi yes the HW40 even though it's not classed as a "competition type pistol". for pure target fun it is one of the best regards VMF... myself. probably like stacks of of other airgun users end up with a fair collection to choose to have some fun with.. just as a note of interest my other top fun gun (AAR. I just had to get one) is the crosman triple threat with the 8in barrel and a modified laser that can mount under the barrel.. that's another VMF. fun gun... happy shooting. kind regards Dave.
Ps.. value more fun... cheers.
Rather nice pistol for the money Bought min a "few" years ago for £100, case wasn't included then though. It needed a little polishing on the sear to get an acceptable trigger.
Pay the extra
Could you help!!!
I do enjoy the video thankyou,
My dad suffered a stroke losing use of his right hand and being now in a wheelchair but would like to get back into target shooting, would you be able to review or suggest an afordable option for this at all
Good enjoyable weekly in depth review as usual, I know you have reviewed the Kral Np02, I am considering purchasing the Kral NP03, are you considering reviewing this air rifle, as I would love to hear your thoughts on same, prior to purchasing.
This lighter weight gun would be used for target shooting in my garden ( can only achieve a 20 metre range) and close range ratting
Accuracy is the important aspect for me, as my main rifle is an HW100 (super accurate and reliable gun, but a bit heavy for garden shooting and close range ratting) the problem being I do not want to get smaller groups shooting in the garden.
Getting great groups and accurate shots using the Custom Targets, these are great, have you tried then, if not you will not be disappointed, try the 5mm pin targets at 20 metre or further ! !
Keep up these great weekly blogs, regards
Go steady and stay safe
That Gamo Comöact been a bit pricey over here. But, I really do not care for it anyways. Love my Beeman P17.
Would buy the Zoraki though.
i just ordered one of those 2 hours ago, i mean, what a coincidence!
Love this channel I would sand it too fit my hand that's pretty koo just not enough power thanks for sharing buddy bsafe
Hey I’m getting my first air gun and I think I’m gonna get the smk m22 pcp rifle, I’m gonna get the bundle from redbeck shooting supplies, any thoughts?
Better to save up the extra money for the “Alecto”,better looking, more power, accessory rails, auto safety and a much better case!
Great video. One question: How do they compare to the crosman 1377?
Nice reviews 😀
Looking forward to someone in the US rebuilding one of these to 85 ft/lbs. 😳👍
I'm guessing you mean multi pump conversion, all done to Beeman P17 years ago. My P17 does about 3.2 ft /lb single pump. Just use your favourite search engine to find them US forums....
It'd be good fun to shoot but I wouldn't enjoy all that pumping on the top (Slide?) also the sight radius is a bit short for those 75 yard starling shots You take so well . Stay Safe & Stay Well .
@@humblemanor2376 i’ m guessing you didn’t get the joke.
Great review but actually the hw45 is a spring powered pistol, you must be thinking of the hw75 which is the pneumatic version.
Do you ever do request reviews?
There's an airgun I'm really dead curious about, and would love to know whether it's worth the money or not - but there are so many questions around the construction quality. Almost no detailed reviews on the web (None I could find in English!)
Please do let me know! Would love to learn more about the Artemis SR900S - A really unusual design!
Good morning Andy , how are you ? Your presentation is very professional ✅
Nice review today , the gamo looks okay. But that handle , is terrible. As you say needs improving. If your on a budget, ok buy it .
But I'd wait , and buy the HW range. In this case you get whot you 💰 pay for .
Personally it's not for me , Iam disabled, and struggle with my hands . It looks hard work closeing.
Thank you both so much for your hard work 😓 ✅ . Take care and have a great weekend.
Cheers Simon from York North Yorkshire. 🏡🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Love all your videos, however the guns mentioned were not the ones shown being shot. The HW 45 is a springer !
Mrs AAR gets her T shirt stuck , So it's not just Me then ! , I usually manage to get My shirt sleeve stuck in a similar manner at least once per session whilst using My HW40 , but Mrs AAR is a far better shot with a pistol than I am ( so are My Wife & youngest daughter for that matter ) Thanks for the revue , Stay Safe & Stay Well .
What distance was the target? 20 feet?
can you make a review of artemis (zasdar) cp1 4.5mm multi shot? thanks
Will you be reviewing the Crosman R1 when it comes in?
chiappa FAS 6004 might be worth a look at
Great review. Good to have comparison. I am into rifles and the replica co2 pistols for plinking. I do have a Beeman P15 which looks identical to the HW40 and is only £80... Great pistol for the money.. The grip on that Gamo looks horrendous, in my opinion..
The Beeman is P17 is identical to the HW40, only it's made in China instead of Germany like the HW40 and Beeman P3. Weihrauch don't put their name on guns made in China, Beeman aren't as fussy, and as ownership of the design is shared by Beeman and Weihrauch Beeman decided to put a budget version on the market.
What Co2 Replicas ya got Tony ? Got a CP88 a few weeks ago its near time for another ! Gimme a rundown of your favourite pistols if you can be bothered. Cheers ...... *BARRY*
I used to make my own grips from scratch.
Can you get air guns delivered to your door in the uk?
Would be nice if you could have used a crosman 1377 and a beeman p17
weihrauch hw75 is pump pneumatic, the HW45 is a springer
Totally off subject of the video. Regarding the Swarm mechanism on Gamo break barrels. I've seen Americans using a gen 2 version of the mechanism which is more streamlined than the original version and incorporates open sights. Does anyone know if Gamo has released guns with this gen 2 mechanism on in the UK or when they intend to do so? Could do with a review of this Andy if you can get your hands on one. Cheers
The pull weight is adjustable but the grub screw it ships with is too short, it's a simple matter to replace it and get the pull down to regulation standards.
I had one , found it a pain to load
Andy does the Gamo Compact qualify fo ISSF competition?
The grip is unfinished, but I suppose it being sold with the possibility of actually making it "your own" could be seen as a good thing, although I feel the option to have a finished, treated one should be available..
Not a fan of the lack of a safety switch, if I`m at the range and the guy next to me is cocking this thing, I`ll be very wary of his/her movements.
Not the gun for me, I`d rather mod a 1377 and end up at a bit higher price, but save a lot of time, which of course, is money ;)
A single ragged hole....not bad at all. But geez those stocks........man, what are they thinking?
Er, isn't the HW45 a spring pistol Andy ?.
A target pistol need wood to be good, no one will use a starndard "one fits all" in pro target leauge :)
Love the show Gov, concerned about your not wearing eye protection for your safety during firing though.
Keep up the good work. Cheers!
Around 5:20 you repeat the same thing again. But the rest of the video is superbe👍
Prefer the FAS 6004 even though it is more expensive
Looks like the HW40 was more accurate than the Gamo Compact?
You should try the HW75 also
Very slick gun, but boy is it expensive. Luckily picked mine up second hand.
Looks to be a good buy for a first serious pistol after stepping up from a club gun. The ability to shape the grip exactly at that price is excellent.
The synthetic grips on the other pistols are fine if they fit exactly but few hands will, a target pistol doesn't need the styling nor does a single shot need a safety when you're going to charge, load, and fire.

I had a Gamo compact over 30 years ago. I used it for target shooting I sold it and got a HW75 and an HW45. The 75 for target shootong and the 45 for close up Ratting like in pig pens and chicken sheds when my rifles are just to much power. I used to target shoot with a .22 LR target Rifle to but after Dunblane the gun club closed.
This may fit a crossman 2240/ 1377
prefer HW 45 to either of them
This Gamo was around when I was 17 years old, this year im 40 years old, seriously ITS NOT NEW! and it may be handy to also include for those that are not in the know - BSA now own Gamo and Gamo (majority) products will no longer be made within the EU, they will be made in Birmingham (I believe) - which means - Gamo is better than you were thinking! (example: The Gamo Coyote is a BSA R-10 but with a cylinder (Rather than a bottle) at almost half the price!). thank me later.
What about the left handed shooter?
You buy the left handed version!
@@terryfletcher6465 Buy the Gamo PR 45, its the same pistol minus the grip and can be had for only £100................. *QUAD*
Seems a little expensive for what it is.
Do you sell?
I'm in the USA and have a Compact that isn't holding air. Gamo USA is of no help at all for parts. Can anyone in Europe give me a heads up on where to get seals?
I see why you used that 10metre indoor partition to show the Wolverine so as not to arouse every neighbour without 1.4 of a mile, that's being said it did give Mrs AAR some 'cheek'. LoL.
don't like the look of the the grip, looks a bit flimsy time will tell if it falls apart after a lot of usage good group thought
Zoraki seems to be 100 times better.
Thst gun is AWSOME
And STRONG
The absence of a safety wouldn't really bother me.
However, auto-setting safeties really annoy me.
Feinwerkbau Model65
I wasnt first
Nor was I last
But when I saw this
I clicked fast
This Gamo doesn't sound like it is much better than my Beeman P17, if any. And it costs 4-5 times the money.
I am a fan of gamo and I have a few gamo products. I like to play and improve my guns. But I wish gamo would finish their guns better. Good design poor finishing.
Well....in my opinion....there are worse things to get caught in your pistol😎
not suited to target work loading this 60 time a match would not help ur arms wrist.
Those elves in the Black Forrest really need to get their poop in one sock. None of these pumper pistols outperforms a good CO2.
Not even Gamo guns like Gamo pellets. How sad.
You fail to mention the Zoraki is pig ugly though.
I hate leaving negative comments, great review as always though, but my god that thing looks cheap, the handle alone looks like it was made in DT Class in senior school 👎
Both overpriced. The zoraki looks like that awful Turkish made Webley from a few years ago. I've tried both and prefer the gamo. It's very comfortable once you have the grip sanded a bit to suit you .
why when not making REPLICA guns, do makers try so hard to make their AIR PISTOLS, resemble colt 1911s or other makes. in the past airgun barrels looked like airguns , a lower tube for compressed air or spring, and an upper tube for barrel, very little chance of it being mistakem by police for a fire arm, but today makers produce firearm resembling NOT A REPLICA airguns that take a close look to diferentiate. its no wonder the law clamps down.imagine your a cop, you enter a house for a disturbance, on the sideboard is what appears to be an automatic pistol or revolver, your next thought is ? now imagine the same but instead you see what is cearly an air pistol, dial back the tension 50% at least. your opinion please
The Bad:
The the trigger take-up adjustment doesn't work (screw too short) yet Gamo hasn't fixed the design flaw but still advertise the feature.
The pistol is plastic. Now firearm makers like Glock have used polymers extensively in their guns without problems. Firearm polymers are designed to handle tremendous shock and pressure and the Glock has proven to be extremely durable and reliable. The Gamo compact on the other hand is made of CHEAP plastics. The two that I had has cracks in the frame and one has a broken spring post (trigger spring) after less than a 100 shots. I
Personally, I think they're ugly and hard work - prefer my HW45 :-) And no offense but the accuracy tests on the range show only that you can make holes somplace on a target, it's not really testing the capabilities of the gun. A solid bench rest and sticking with one (experienced) shooter might help for consistency but really you should aim to take the shooter out of the assessment as much as possible.
I love my HW45's, but they're completely different guns to the gamo compact, apples and oranges.
@@billythepigeon7345 For sure you're right there, but they're similar money. I'm struggling to figure out what pneumatic pistols like the Gamo are best suited to.
@@chrislx2006 10m target shooting and back yard plinking mostly.
@@chrislx2006 the Zoraki HP01/Webley Alecto has more punch than the HW45, just slightly has the edge. The Zoraki is comperable to the Gamo Compact and HW40 on just the first pump.
I don't like the wood.
Sand it... strian it... spray ...make pannels out of duck tape for it.... or just by a pr.45 ...😆
That's not what we've heard captain Adams 😉
Thats not what she said......
