    This is identical to the CP2 set up as a pistol, which was my first step into airguns. Can't recommend it highly enough, the perfect starter CO2 gun. They are great fun as they are but there is a world of add-ons, up-grades and tuning accessories available, and it is so easy to work on (iirc you just need the two allen keys that come with it to strip it completely) that there is no reason not to. Can't go wrong, an easy to use, easy to tune pistol and rifle for under two hundred quid. Accurate too, I had mine pellet-on-pellet out to 30m in .22. Great review, as always Andy.

    I have both the pistol and rifle versions and love them both. If you want a super airgun at a great price, it can't be beat. One feature that was not mentioned is the ability to remove the CO2 cartridge without having to fire the gun numerous times to relieve pressure. Just unscrew the pin in the end cap and use it to twist the cap a bit. The gas will vent from the side opening in the gas tube. This is a feature all airguns should have. This is an extremely fine gun.

    I have a pretty good collection of full power air rifles and pistols, of all types and quality. Without doubt, my three year old CP2 (in carbine setup with a red dot) is the one I find myself picking up the most, both for its practicality as well as its acceptable accuracy. No mods on it whatsoever, and nothing has failed on it yet. I imagine that the Chaser is at least as good.

      PCP does not automatically provide more accuracy in a target pistol and you may well be recharging a PCP more often than swapping a CO2 capsule out. I think you have to pay a lot more money for a more accurate target pistol.

    It is a CP2 and parts are interchangeable. They may need a little work because the factory finish is not first water. Burrs in the hammer tube may need polishing off etc.
    The CP2 moderator will add a little more fps and muzzle brake, but tune for better regulation not more power as excess CO2 ejected will just tumble the pellet. A trifle under 500fps is ideal. Pellets from over 0.51g to under 0.60g seem to fly at the same speed but it is fussy about pellet shape, and some work much better than others.
    It is incredibly accurate and puts more expensive air pistols to shame. Andy's grouping is fairly typical. It is a 10 metre target pistol, it doesn't need more power to do that, but can hit targets out at 40 metres.

    Great video Andy! One question, if this is running on a single 12g Co2 capsule, and is pushing out this kind of power, surely it's possible for manufacturers to give their Co2 replica pistols the same increase in performance?

    • @MrJoep87
      @MrJoep87 2 года назад +16

      CO2 relies a lot on the length of the barrel to develop power as it expands. Most of those replicas have extremely short barrels which will always be a limitation when using CO2.

    • @jeffslade1892
      @jeffslade1892 2 года назад +1

      With a bit of tuning to improve efficiency but not power, on a warm day they can deliver some 65 well regulated shots (9 fps spread) with the last 10 dropping off in pressure as the capsule dies.
      I'm experimenting with a lens dew heater to keep the pressure up on winter days.

    • @davidpaylor5666
      @davidpaylor5666 2 года назад +6

      It's barrel length. If you get a CP2, which is basically the same action as the Chaser but with a swappable rifle barrel and a butt extension, then the power of the pistol is about 5 ft lb but just putting the long barrel on it makes it around 9 ft lb.

    • @davidpaylor5666
      @davidpaylor5666 2 года назад +5

      If you're in the UK don't let the plod catch you using the long barrel CP2 without the butt fitted, it is a serious offense to exceed 6ft lb in an air pistol and could put you in prison.

    • @jeffslade1892
      @jeffslade1892 2 года назад +3

      @@davidpaylor5666 the Chaser says 210mm pistol barrel, prolly with the cap on, the CP2 is 208mm prolly with the cap off. Same barrel. There is a combo option with the Chaser, same as the CP2 kit. Diana do seem to glue the moderator onto the rifle barrel, apparently that comes off with a little heat and brute ignorance. The CP2 is under 5 ft lb, with the rifle barrel a little over 7 ft lb. It can be tweaked up but not advisable if you want accuracy. With very light pellets I can get close to 600fps off the .177 pistol (still under 6 ft lb) but they're all over the place, mine does not like pellets under 0.51g at all.

    Bought this some time ago in my country and it was bundled with the rifle barrel, a silencer, the rifle stock and a fabric case/bag.
    A note is that the one I got was made to fit Belgium law which meant the short barrel was glued in place so to fit the rifle barrel required me to break the original barrel free from the rest of the gun. While doing this I damaged the glue of the CO2 capsule holder which meant that it was more likely to be damaged by rust over time.
    The silencer was glued to the rifle barrel which meant I was unable to take that off and put it on the shorter barrel.
    Because of this I do not recommend this airgun. A shame since I did like it, especially how effective the provided silencer/suppressor was, but all the glue really ruined it for me. For a budget I prefer the Artemis CP400 even though that can't fit a silencer/suppressor.

    • @unzulaessig
      @unzulaessig 2 года назад

      Its Locktide, and its good when there is a little between breech and barrel so the gas just can go in one way out. Dont know why they do that also with the silencer but a little torch to make it warm helps! Unfortunaly they didnt put some locktide on the little maggot screw from the trigger adjustment, should be done afterwards. Sometimes it takes a bit of manual skill. Or spend 2k in a Edgun or so^^

    1 drop of
    .automatic. .transmission. .sealer. .fluid., any reputable brand, to the top of each CO2 cartridge before installing, is necessary to keep the seals flexible and lubed. Very expensive Pelgunoil not needed,
    says Tom Gaylord of Pyramid Air.
    Good review of a quality airgun.
    I learned on RUclips how to remove the stock moderator from the .177 cal. long barrel and installed it on the short barrel. It is laughably quiet. And with Gamo Platinum PBA pellets, it shoots 3/16" groups at 15 y, and makes enough KE to dispatch burrowing ground squirrels at 15 y.

    Will it do the "swap out" set up with the PCP Bandit ? I saw the CP2 video where you swapped out the CP2 rifle barrel and pistol body with the PP800 and they both look exactly like the Chaser and Bandit...I have the Chaser rifle kit and it's extremely tempting to do it. The CP2 brand isn't available here in the USA so the "Chaser" aka "CP2"? set up is still fairly new over here and it does get pretty cold where I live which makes using CO2 outdoors limiting, PCP however, much better prospect. Big advantage over here is there's no limit on pistol power....My chaser out of the box using it as a pistol shoots at 640 fps about 7 ft lb, the Bandit is advertised at 725 fps, about 9.25 ft lbs which could possibly be more with the longer barrel. A PCP rifle / pistol combo that I only need a hand pump to fill ......Christmas is only just around the corner..and those damn squirrels need moving off the bird feeders......

      The Chaser is up to the mission you described. To a max of 15 yards. Get two magazines. It they don't work, just look inside, the chamber isn't matching the exit hole. Just buy a tiny (smaller than usual chain saw sharpener) appropriate diameter rat tail file, and match them up. This gun is well worth a little finishing of the magazine production.

    Nice pistol, but I still prefer my Crosman 2240 simply because of the virtually unlimited amount of accessories and parts available for it (yes, I love to tinker). Being a rifle shooter I bought it as a cheap indoor plinkinker for the winter months, but I love it no less than my HW100 (although with over 300 Eur spent on it's not that cheap anymore).

    Bit like the Webley VMX but the VMX doesn't have a stock attachment but it does have picatinny rail top and bottom and 1/2 UNF threaded barrel, no safety on the VMX though and it's a little more around £109 mark but has both multi shot mag and single shot tray, personally I prefer the VMX.

    Although I assumed it would be identical to the CP2 I notice that this gun has a trigger that can be adjusted with the stock on via the grub screw let into the front of the trigger (visible at 4:23). This would be a worthwhile modification to a CP2 I think as the internal adjustment of the CP2 requires taking the trigger out of the action each time you need to access the grub screw.

      when adjusting the trigger screw the gun can go off, so as always have it unloaded and in a safe direction when working on it

      @@nmarbletoe8210 Oh yes, I'm super careful when working on a gun. My father was ex army and I had an air rifle thrust into my hands at the tender age of 5 and instructed in its care and handling with a discipline that would not be very acceptable today. However, it has served me well since.

    I've just re-watched this video and realised that with 480fps the CO2 is self-regulating - as the vapour pressure of the liquid CO2 drops with temperature, so the hammer is able to open the valve more. And it should remain pretty constant until the last magazine when it drops off, whatever the ambient temperature. We get more shots per capsule when it is warmer.. It's also at the magic "just under 500fps" which is just-right for a target pistol. It is when the energy is pushed up by playing with the springs that CO2 becomes adversely affected by temperature. If the energy is pushed up, as they do in some countries, you cannot get grouping like that.
    With the moderator (not supplied by Diana, perhaps because USA has some weird silencer laws) I might expect to see the velocity pushed up by 5-10fps. In summer I was seeing 490fps +/-4.5fps out of the SMK Victory CP2 (pistol) with about 65 good shots per capsule, in winter at 7° 485fps but only 45 good shots per capsule. In both cases during the last magazine the velocity drops rapidly, below 300fps the capsule is spent.

      The long barrel comes with a moderator. YT videos tell how to remove it using a more costly brand of penetrating oil and slight heat. That stock moderator makes even the short barrel extremely quiet.
