Stumbled upon this issue when looking up the lubricant for the seat tracks....I can't believe what's going on here. I have a 2017 Santa Fe with the 2.4L engine with over 170K miles...and never had an issue with oil consumption. Of course that doesn't happen with any of my vehicles, as my great grandad told me back in the 80's to run a can of "Berrymans B-12 Chemtool" in every other tank of gas. Pour in the can and then fill with gas....that simple. Also....you shouldn't be using that ethanol crap in your engine, and only use 100% gasoline....that ethanol has so much particulate matter in it, it will literally wreak havoc throughout your fuel system, engine and exhaust system...don't try to save a few cents at the pump on the ethanol, as you'll pay the price down the road like a lot of you are doing right now paying for extra oil and risking potential engine seizure. Keep a few cans of B12 in your vehicle in the backseat and pour one in every other time you fill up your car and you will never have the oil consumption problem....and...quit using the worthless "ethanol"....always 100% pure gasoline! Always use a good quality synthetic oil as well....traditional oils have so much butyrol peptide waxes that they gum up engines like crazy after just 10-20K miles.

Needed help I bought Hyundai sonata 2017 2 days ego. Everything was perfect but i face engine night on and the car little bit breveting. This is my first car and I don’t have enough idea about it. Could you help me to find what’s wrong with it and how much it’s gonna be cost to fix?😒
Hello, I have the same problem with my 2012 Hyundai with a 2.0 engine, but the vibration sometimes occurs for a short period. I have checked the PCV valve by blowing and it works perfect. The spark plugs were replaced a year ago and have only driven 5000km. I noticed engine oil around the top of the spark plugs around the spark plug opening screw, is it possible that oil is flowing from the top into the combustion chamber?
Generally oil will not be able to leak into the combustion chamber from a valve cover leak. It can cause a misfire if the oil is getting on the coil boots. If you have oil reaching the inside of the plugs and have no pcv issue, it is very possibly it’s making its way into the combustion chamber through worn valve guides or piston rings.
@@SMAutoRepairLLC The spark plugs seem dry. The mechanic advised me to replace the spark plugs even though I have NGK, IR, and Silzkr7b11 spark plugs. What do you think?
@@Sss-r1j you could try swapping the ignition coil and or plug from cylinder 4 to cylinder 3. Clear the codes out and run it again until you set a code and see if the code moved cylinders. So a P0303 is what code would set if it moves. That will clear up if it’s a coil or spark plug is the issue in that cylinder. This is the easiest method of testing you can do to determine what’s the wrong. If you want to try and replace the spark plugs you can, but the NGK iridium plugs you have, should do just fine.
i have sonata2017, its reducing engine oil but engine recall is already open on it since 2018. can hundai wil repair it free of cost as recall is already open on it.
I'm having the same issue with my 2017 Hyundai Sonata except its just P0303 we changed the ignition coil as well as the sparkplugs and it's still giving me the same codes.
I have a 2014 Hyundai sonata gls and I changed my spark plugs and no lights on the dash but when I turn on the car it lightly shakes and when I turn on the ac it jumps hard for 2 seconds and stop then just runs regular. It just jumps every time i turn on ac just for 2 seconds . And sometimes while I’m idling . No oil droppings , I changed by filters so any help???
So for the AC being switched on it is not uncommon for these smaller engines to have some vibration with the added load of the Air Conditioner, as far as the vibration (Engine Surge) on start up or while at idle I have seen the purge valve stick open on occasion and cause these exact symptoms so something to look into.

@@SMAutoRepairLLC your right they do have a recall i just took my 2016 hyundai sonata sport into the dealership i got a brand new engine with full lifetime warranty this is 06/25/24

After scanning, it got P0301 and P0304 codes. After i notice fuel on the plugs for rome 1 and 4. Thanks
A Pcv valve will not cause excess fuel in the combustion chamber, if your plugs are wet with fuel I would be looking further into the fuel injectors also make sure your ignition coils are producing good spark so it is able to completely burn the fuel during each firing event.
I put in new plugs and a new coilpack and still getting misfire cylinder 1. Running rough idle. I dont think pcv is issue. Car has 134k and this is literally first thing wrong with it since got it new. 2017 sonata 2.4.

No engine lights or anything and when you try to shut it off before the engine stops conpletely it has a misfire??
@jasminemart6146 well we didn't find out but a month or two later her connecting rods broke and the engine was making allot of noise we ended up going to hyundia dealership and there's like a major problem with these engines so they ended up replacing our engine for free at 135k miles hope this helps good luck
White smoke out of the exhaust is a sign there is oil in the combustion chamber. The piston rings are likely warn and allowing oil where it shouldn't be... will need an engine rebuild unfortunately 😢
So I would start by changing the oil and filter if it’s due and changing the spark plugs if they have carbon deposit built up on them. Check the PCV system as well. The p0010 code is caused from VVT solenoids or cam phasers, oil condition and level are critical for ensuring normal operation of these components. You can test the VVT solenoids with a multi meter or bench test them to see if they are operational by supplying power and ground to them you should here an audible click when it is supplied with power and ground. Having access to a scan tool will be needed to properly check the cam phasers performance I hope this helps.
My Hyundai sonata 2018 limited 2.4 has check engine light on p0303 code we changed spark plugs ignition coils and fuel injectors for 4 cylinders still it is misfiring what is the solution for this when I contacted Hyundai service center they said they found 0 compression in cylinder 3 may be there is hole in the valve in cylinder 3 I’m confused now they are recommending to change the engine
No compression could be piston rings or valves. A leak down test could be performed to determine the cause of the loss of compression. If it’s a valve leak a new cylinder head may be in order if it’s piston ring issue, you could have the engine rebuilt or replaced. Very common with Hyundai and Kia.
@meghanadhrocky2004 depends on your area and if you choose to go to dealership or independent shop. Also if you’re looking at a new or used cylinder head or maybe having your head machined and all the valves replaced would change the pricing significantly. I would say easily $1200 and up.

Would the pcv allow oil to build up in the valve cover valley? I have exact same issue with misfire, fouled spark plug, oil consumption and excessive oil on top of cover. Did customer return for oil consumption or did this solve problem?
If your having this issue excessive vacuum in the crank case could be a cause of oil buildup in the top of the engine due to a stuck open PCV valve. This vehicle here has had no other issues and has been in twice for maintenance services since this video was done, but this is not a guarantee fix to your issues these engines are notorious for valve problems causing this exact same concern. If your unsure of the cause and can’t find any engine mechanical concerns replacing the spark plugs pcv valve and changing the engine oil is a good place to start and all of which are maintenance items that probably need to be serviced anyhow. (depending on mileage)I hope this helps.
Found the video very instructive. Please does a faulty pcv valve cause excess fuel on the spark plugs? Cause i newly installed this engine on santa fe 2017 model, but the car isnt idling properly. have a 15 sonata . every 60 miles cylinder 4 spark plug is wet with oil and causes misfire. i clean the carbon off the plug and im off and running again for 60 more miles. the problem is the piston rings. the spring tension on the rings riding against the cyl wall is weak due to wrong design of the spring tension of the steel rings. the more tension that is against the cyl walls the less miles per gallon. When the rings become weak there is less tension from the rings which means oil will seep up the piston and on the spark plug.
It's burning oil because your sticking to the manufacturers oil change guide,,these guides from all manufacturers is way to long,,,for a GDI engine change it every 4 thousand miles,,it's probably to late for your engine, the oil rings are prob seized ...
But why replace the PCV valve you can test it just by taking the PCV valve out and leaving it attached to the hose put your finger over it and it should plunge back and forth you will then know that you have a good PCV valve why replace something if it's not broke you're just causing an extra expense for the customer
With A Clear Indication Of Excess Oil Passing Through And It Being Only A $5.00 Dollar Part I Would Recommend This Is To Anyone Having This Issue And Would Suggest It As A Maintenance Item Per OEM Mileage Recommendation Any How, Sure We Could Test The Valve And In Some Cases It’s Necessary……In This Case Kind Of A No Brainer With The Related Issues This Customer Is Having. These Engines Are Very Troublesome With Oil Burning Anywhere From The PCV System All The Way To Engine Mechanical Thanks For Reaching Out.

After scanning, it got P0301 and P0304 codes.
After i notice fuel on the plugs for rome 1 and 4.
Thanks
I’m literally having these problems now going to be fixing it this weekend
What did u do ?
Just had oil on that plug cylinder 4 misfire
have a 15 sonata . every 60 miles cylinder 4 spark plug is wet with oil and causes misfire. i clean the carbon off the plug and im off and running again for 60 more miles. the problem is the piston rings. the spring tension on the rings riding against the cyl wall is weak due to wrong design of the spring tension of the steel rings. the more tension that is against the cyl walls the less miles per gallon. When the rings become weak there is less tension from the rings which means oil will seep up the piston and on the spark plug.
Ours doing the very same thing and end up fixing plugs and pvc, and now the sensor we have to change
If you don’t have a misfire but it’s burning oil like crazy could what you changed fix the problem if the car only has 99,000 miles
Heyy i do have the same 2017 H sonata and t was not running more than 40mph + not going up to 3-4RPM no speed at all felt like could not change shifts then said someone missfire might be the reason then i saw this video i just wanted to get an advise please 81K mileage good taken care car
Possible. Is the check engine light on any codes stored?
@@SMAutoRepairLLC yes engine light was on and it was flashing
@@SMAutoRepairLLC knocks signal i think P132600
@@i_m_ak1 so these vehicles have a service bulletin for knock sensor issues and trouble codes, that could be an issue for you if not a misfire as well.
@@SMAutoRepairLLC is that something i should be worrying about i mean i wont be driving with the check engine light on also not running more than 50mph rpm not high enough but the engine is not a problem right it could be because of cylinder miss-firing or any censor or some?
This is exactly what my sonata doing
seeing it all to often, more and more.
@@SMAutoRepairLLC good job bro it takes good specialist to notice that🦾💯
@@GambinoVegas Thank You that’s appreciated. This was one of my earliest videos when I first started the channel as far as recording definitely not my best work, but with that being said this video here seeks a lot of views it’s no coincidence. These engines are just troublesome.
Hyundai's are so bad, they have so much engine issues this is why they give you a 10yr warrenty right after you buy it lol lol. Honda / Toyoata are just so much better. What you pay is what you get.
Couldn’t Agree More!!!
This car looks like its not well maintained.. poor shape, scratched ass guage cluster, low tire pressure.. probaly only had 1 or 2 oil changes in tjat 73,000 miles
Catch can might help.
Dealership is recommending a long block engine replacement. No warranty at 97,000 miles on mine 😭
That’s Upsetting
@@SMAutoRepairLLC you think I should fight with corporate or find a good mechanic to take care of the specific problem?
By My Understanding All The TSB I’ve Seen On These For Issues Engine Mechanical Are Covered Under Powertrain Warranty 100,000 Miles, When We Run Across This We Send Our Customer To The Dealership For Warranty. I Have Had 3 Cases In About The Past 6 Months Where These Vehicles Had Engine Mechanical Problems Not Carbon Not PCV Related….and all 3 Needed A Replacement Engine 2 Of Them Covered By Powertrain Warranty, The Other almost 150k So To Answer Your Question I Would Be Inclined To Contact Whoever By Whatever Means Necessary To See Why The 100,000 Powertrain Warranty Doesn’t Apply To You With 3,000Miles Left to Go. This Is A Commonly Known Problem.
these cars really need a ovs..on the pvc system..i installed one on a customers car.. and the oil burning went down a lot.. but you need to watch the ove , once a month,, empty... just as bad as bmw.vw/audi pvc system... audi/vw think 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles is ok...my 14 ford fusion 2.0 vel( spainish built engine) has a much better pvc system... it take the vapours from the block under the intake manifold.. not the valve cover .i did install a ovs on my car on day one... no oil burning,, and almost no oil use between oil changes
OVS , OVE, PVC?
COULD YOU EXPLAIN THESE IN DETAIL?
I THINK PCV NOT PVC
@@sybae1593 remove the intake manifold.. look for carbon build up on the intake valves,, then get back to me
Ovs...?
@@mateo-6965 oil vapour seperator... why cannot anyone look things up on there own... everyone seams to need there hand held
I have Hyndai sonata 2015 eco . worst decision I ever made. it burns oil like crazy I changer both spark plug and coils and still having high oil consumption. I have to add oil every 700 K miles otherwise the car will go below the minimum,. No warranty even the issue started bellow 100 k . Hyundai and kia NEVER AGAIN!
