Horrible interviewing! Stop constantly interrupting the guy by asking questions he was already likely to answer in the next sentence
interrupting as he has no plan, its clear they will break promises, just waiting until they borrow or realise and tax changes start. Main comment is "lets see"

Terrible way of interviewing people. More than an interview it feels like incompetent people trying to challenge someone very competent that didn’t even have the time to take a look at the books he inherited from the previous rulers

This was more of an interrogation than an interview. Total lack of respect. He actually answers the questions too despite the interruptions.

HORRIBLE INTERVIEWING, ...Why do you keep demanding concrete immediate answers, when Darren OBVIOUSLY can't give such particulars after only 72 hours, not to mention that he's not the only person forming the new plans??!!!
they wanted him to say "tax the rich" he said lower taxes on working classes..interviewer went "working classes..hmm!" and that was it. yes, cutting taxes for working classes and planting it right back in the lap of the profiteers.

They shouldn't be "forming" plans, they've been "ready to govern" for years by their own admittance. These plans should be in place and ready to go.

It's integral to Labour's message that children anywhere in Britain should have the chance to make something of themselves, he is the embodiment of that.

I think interviewing styles like this is what helped lead to the dumbing down of the electorate. Susannah keeps asking the same question re: growth expecting a specific, simple answer. When told that it's a bit more complex than providing a specific figure, she then continues to ask the same question again, as though she has "caught him out". This makes it appear that he is avoiding answering her question when he had already answered it (and gave the reason why he was unable to provide a specific figure).
How refreshing to hear competent answer. The presenters however need to reevaluate their questioning/interviewing techniques as in this case are very poor. Let the interviewee answer before you interrupt. The party has changed and so will the press and media.
Jeez let the man answer the question. One rule about interviewing is to let the interviewee feel comfortable to answer your questions.
You will either learn something or give they make a fool of themselves if you allow them to talk enough.

Growth takes time, but the conditions to spark growth can happen very quickly indeed. Investment.

Please excuse my ignorance due to living in the U.S., but is it normal for journalists to interrupt the interviewee? Is this a typical British thing?
It seems to be something our political journalists do instead of waiting for a reply and providing a calculated response. Its really odd. The advantage we do have when you put this journalism spiel aside is ofcom, who regulate political bias for televised news sources, intending to avoid things like fox news to come into existence
It is for GMB. They rarely these days let guests actually answer questions properly.
@AnubisX1 I saw Sky News' Kay Burley doing the same thing to Darren Jones too, he seems to be very well collected and composed though, he seems to be quite different than many in that respect.
Yes it's typical, the point of the interviewer is to challenge the person being interviewed and put the opposing argument to them, stop them if they feel they're dodging the question etc. It can be robust, and sometimes I think there's too much emphasis on trying to get a 'gotcha' moment, but it's right that politicians should be challenged. Darren does well here, he's good at this sort of thing.
Only if they're progressive MPs, trying to help the public.
If they're embezzling crooks, they get the softball questions.
Tax the rich
What happens when the rich leave the country? Who's footing the tax bill then?
The majority of working people dont pay Capital Gains Tax. They pay VAT, NI and Income Tax. CGT is a wealth tax on a class of assets that is unproductive to the economy and at no point did Labour say they wouldn't plunder that. It's redristubitive; rich to poor.
Fully agree, a huge issue in this country is the continuing growth on inequality. A tax on the richest in society is badly needed to address this.
They've said they would not touch capital gains tax
Capital Gains need to be taxed in a similar manner and at similar rates to income tax.

There's a reason people don't watch GMB. It's painful to see two people trying to be something they're not. Comes across very amateur and lack of skills to listen and ask good questions based on the answers not interrupting like old Piers used to do. SMH
I haven’t watched this show for months because their interviewing style has been appalling, interrupting all the time, ridiculous questions, this interview with the brilliant Darren Jones just reenforces my decision to watch another channel.

"Look, I've been in office for approximately 72 hours now. We've barely had a chance to scratch the surface of the nightmare that your Tory chums dropped the country in. So, with all due respect, get off my sodding wick."
They were putting him in a hypothetical scenario that Labour may very well face. Covid wasn't finally planned but required money immediately, we ought to know Labour are prepared for a similar event.
Could only watch 3 minutes of this. Susanna Reid is incredibly rude and obnoxious. Sure Darren will do a much better job than you do interviewing!
DAY four of the new Labour Administration:-
Question 1 - "why isn't everything fixed already"
Question 2 "How are you going to provide solutions TODAY for all the F*** ups from the last 14years
Question 3: "explain fully what you will do if something happens in the future that you don't know anything about yet"
Shame we didn't have this kind of grilling of the Tories at any time during their administration

God her line of questioning is doing my head in - same as Laura K Labour are in the door 5 mins and questioning is way more aggressive than with previous government.
"I'm not talking about those taxes (poor people taxes), I'm talking about other taxes (rich people taxes, aka talking about herself)"
They always refer to the note saying there was no money left but fail to mention the fact that the hedge fund companies in America caused it, one of which Sunak worked in.
Desperately trying to force someone who has only been in the job for 2 days to answer questions about the exact figures of the next 5 years is truly pathetic.

Why all the aggression from the interviewer ? I'm all for challenging interviews but this was like she was trying to muddy and obscure what he was saying which is the opposite of what her job is supposed to be.
Susanna Reid is inept at understanding economics. She quotes figures she has no idea what they mean or represent. They talk 'growth' but the only way you get growth is through private enterprise and deregulation, which we all know Labour will not do.
I enjoined Darren Jones's grilling of the post office heads during select committee investigations. He was fantastic

Forget excuses for the past and slogans for the future… success is based on actual measurable results in increased investment and growth. 3-4 levels of government in the UK is sapping productivity as invested money disappears into pockets of local authority leaders, CEOs, metro mayors, devolved government officials and multiple levels of out-sourced works and services of their pet projects.
