- Keir Starmer has said that he is going to have to make tough decisions and "make them early" in his first news conference as UK prime minister.
He said that prisons are an obvious example of an issue that needs to be addressed, "where other parts of the system are broken".
On Saturday he chaired a cabinet meeting for the first time in Downing Street in which he said a "huge amount of work" was under way.

People complaining that he's too dull and boring. A charismatic politician is the last thing this country need. We've had enough of the toxic spectacle and entertainment. This is exactly what we need, a boring government, no showmanship just doing the job exactly as it needs to.

Basically this is reality and the uk knows, we are not in the 2000s, early 2010s anymore. Where our future is going to look bright. Maybe it will happen. Its a different page. And both know we are on the same page, even though there is distrust and hate and indifference. Just hope that as we are out the EU, idk why but we can make it better. That's what I want to see.

I too am happy but unfortunately they won it only as a punishment towards the Tories. Five years time we are no doubt going to be in for another tirade of populist Center-right and right wing claptrap. My faith in humanity remains rather low.
next joke....
@xsm5525 "you"
😂😂😂😂
Yeah, swapping one self serving government for another that also hates the UK people and will make THEIR rich friends richer and Tax the Worker for the Indolent.
Omg wow a prime minister who answers questions
Have you not watched any of the election build-up? Dude barely said a thing
are u dumb. he answers nothing.....
Except "what is a woman?"
@c.karnstein3299, what's the answer, then? What would you have preferred, he said?

No sound for a short period
Can the media - please - just stop doing the poliTIK rather than the policIES that the people of UK need.
Someone who loves this country and it’s people💪💪 please help the poorer 🙌🙌
lol, "loves this country and it's people".... he's Blairs student.... he'll sell out the UK to the WEF / EU and hates the UK (loves HIS rich friends)... The UK will be renamed WEF /EU puppet state 28... the Affluent fake left & indolent will win, the workers will be taxed!
How can you love a country when your prepared to let thousands of illegal migrants onto this island at the expense of the Inhabitants... at least some of guys have someone to serve your tofu frappes at pret a manger for minimal wage
Did they really just mute him for 1 min, 6.43 to 6.53 ??
THE Patrick Vallance? Lord help us all. I profoundly question your judgment already.
James Timpson will know how to change the locks and keys at the prisons
Awful appt is Patrick valance . He was the architect of awful uk management of covid , many people died because of his mismanagement , many people never recovered from covid thanks to valance . covid enquiry will recommend he and is cabinet office cronies were culpable for many U.K. deaths and loss of thousands of businesses , hence he will need to go when starmer reads the report. already starmer is playing up to the evil rotten civil service that is responsible for broken U.K. this means nothing will happen in the next 60 months .
It's a shame that none of those keys will work 😂
Unelected minister. Labour power sleaze just begun and people turn a blind eye.
An actual politician who is talking about delivering things to the people.
Yes another one
all of them talk we will see next year...
Delivering things like economically damaging net zero policies, large numbers of illegal migrant men milling around towns , goodbye free speech, the madness of woke, indirect taxation, yep much to be delivered
he aint capable of delivering a letter pal 😛
Every politician does that, but few ever did, the last being Maggie. I hope you like mass immigration, because there is loads to come, and the infrastructure will suffer even more. What the hell were the electorate thinking?
I'm not generally a big fan of starmer, I didn't even vote Labour, and I still live in a tory constituency, but this conference is a breath of fresh air, the last few prime ministers we have had have seemed like they were fighting for popularity instead of doing their jobs, talking generalised fluff and waffling on about nothing to avoid answering any questions. This conference actually had real sentences, I am hopeful that maybe the future will be looking up
Please sir, ease legal immigration
FINALLY a sane prime minister. It only took 14 years…⏳
Sheep
Don't forget that he prevented Jimmy Savile from being prosecuted. He also wants uncontrolled mass immigration. We are doomed.
Where is this sane person you speak of ??
@@IsclachauEh? 😂
I'm sure lots of CPS victims agree, so do the non tax payers and the indolent
At last a grown up in No.10.
Misrepresenting the head of state from the get go. The crown on the Lectern Royal Cypher is not the Kings Chosen Tudor crown representing the King but the St Edward’s Crown chosen by Queen Elizabeth II. Sunak used the same Lectern as well. Its Comedy of errors act 2
@@tellitasitisOh no he used the wrong symbol? How does that affect his leadership for the working man?
Yeah, he makes Joe Biden look smart.
thats exactly what you said when rishi won
@@Ramesh98575 undermines credibility of the judgement of the government and that effects everybody. The Symbol represents the head of state using the wrong one means the real head of state is not being represented.
The government 66% of Britian didn’t vote for
I think people saying he's not said anything meaningful, genuinely didn't listen to the speech. He's literally going around the whole of the uk, from ground up, lower tiers of government to dish out and mandate economic growth in every sector. That's what he said. He's done more work in three days than any tory PM in the last 14 years.
Good speech, actually.
Actions speak louder than words, particularly in politics, The electorate will judge you in 5 years or less.
Given the limited financial sources the govt now have, they may have to review the UK’s commitment and role in the international arena vs-a-via domestic priorities to avoid raising more taxes.
Well spoken, charismatic, boring even dull? Is that what people think can run a country?
Personally im more interested in the fact that in 6 weeks he gave us NOTHING other than the labour classic "tories are bad we are good" all the other things he said were immediately proved to be completely unrealistic and unaffordable.
Remember the country voted on more to get the tories out NOT to get labour in.
He seems like a decent human being
Check his record then… he’s a patented liar who endorses “ruthlessness” as a political virtue
There are lot's of decent human beings, but they can't run a country either
Why?
Seems, yes. Is, no.
he's a politician
Say what you want about the result, but Starmer has talked more sense in 2 days than any PM in the past 10 years or more
Rubbish Blair is PM, Blair talked great as well whilst he screwed the country (BTW I voted for Blair and wasn't stupid enough to be fooled by a second rate version!)

This guy sounds logical and calm. Not the previous few, delivering their speech like an entertainment performance.
We've had 14 years of tough decisions, in the form of attacks on our services and the raising of our taxes. Can these tough decisions affect the rich this time please?
No, don’t be daft. He means the tough decisions that were inevitable after the Tories, with Labour biting at their heels, paid out 80% on salaries and shut the economy down because of a bad flu that affected the elderly and the sick. He can now take those decisions and blame the Tories for all of it. From each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs.
You're dreaming
did nobody ever teach you the principles of finance and economics? Firstly, you cannpt tax the rich.. because they hold assets, majority tax free.. and then on top of that whenever they need money they borrow against their assets wich is tax free mate. In terms of ecnomony. if you hound the rich and make it difficult... they up and leave the country and most likely move their business with them.. then what? unemployment.. less money n the economy, less of everything. Why are people so stupid this days and unable to understand basic principles.. ridiculous.
@@DjNicolaiUcins "Why are people so stupid this days" 🤣🤣🤣
@@DjNicolaiUcinsagreed. People should take basic economic tests before they are allowed to vote because especially the number of people who voted for the Green Party that wanted to raise taxes on people earning £50k described as the “rich”. When they open the booksand have a look all this optimism will change.
He sounds reasonable, what worries me is when Labour remove him, who is waiting to replace him.
I like that he's boring and not charismatic. Those are good qualities for a politician.
Indeed. Charismatic politicians get into office on their charisma alone and are usually useless at actually governing.
I mean Biden and trump are old politicians. What’s wrong being young charismatic?
@@Nemenisit’s the charisma that can be viewed as impressionable. Many charismatic leaders were shite too. Charisma doesn’t mean it’s the person is a good leader but rather better are getting votes since many like charismatic leaders.
