Concerning Hasbin Hotel's most hated character, some have asked the question is it hypocritical to hate Valentino but still like similar villains that do awful things that are similar to him? Let's deep dive into this question and come up with an answer.

I think the reason people hate valentino but love joker is because joker is so over the top, you just can't take it fully seriously. Meanwhile, valentino's deeds are done in a realistic way
Yeah there's so many things you can do with how you portray murder.
But SA is supposed to be done and taken seriously unless when it's done comedic it should have a point.

this. valentino is incredibly one note, and is not taken as seriously as he should be.
I think the point you make is very telling with how Alastor is also a character who has done a lot of bad things in the show but is universally loved because his introduction was met with levity and humor first before then showing his darker side both said through dialogue and then shown through action.
Also, I don't even know if I, or most people, would like to see him redeemed, but am absolutely open to the possibility if it is done correctly. I don't even know how, that's for a real writer to figure out.

I completely agree. I never understood the extreme hate for Valentino when so many worse villains are loved. For the Joker, he has many versions, and that definitely helps. And yes, timing is also crucial.
I personally am more neutral towards Valentino though I like his design and his dynamic in the Vees

OBVIOUSLY THERE IS ONLY ONE VALENTINO!! IT’S A SINGLE SHOW WITHOUT A DAMN COMIC! He’s awful and yeah, definitely dislikable. However, how is the Joker any better?? If anything, he’s worse because of just how much he’s done. How are you going to argue that a mass murderer is better than a grapist??
@@AbysmalGhost chill out, christ. As someone’s already mentioned in a comment, the Joker is extremely over the top, he’s supposed to be chaotic and entertaining. He’s given a kinda sad backstory, at least in one version, and has done some better things. He’s still a terrible person, we’re just given more. Things to like about him, something to make us feel bad. We don’t get that with Valentino. All we’re shown is Val is a temperamental abuser. No better actions, no backstory, no reason for why he is the way that he is. All we’re shown is Val is bad

The problem isn't that people are supposed to like him.
No he is a terrible person.
The problem is that people can't separate reality from fiction and attack people who like or cosplay the character and also attack the VA for just doing his job.
There shouldn't be a morality compass over liking fictional characters.
The difference is that one is the relationship between a controlling boss and their desperate employee, where as Joker & Harley is a pairing of two emotionally broken mass-destructive, *as well as self-destructive,* psychopaths with their motivations & vices for staying.
I really dislike Valentino, but for his personality and actions. I like his design and think he’s written really well. I don’t think I’d want to see him redeemed. I don’t even know how you would redeem someone like Valentino
I feel like the reason the Joker is widely loved is even though he has done TERRIBLE things, maybe even worse than Valantino in some's opinion, is because he is written by writers who understand his phsycology(sometimes), I love Hazbin Hotel, but it isn't really a well written show, most of the characters rarely get time to shine and there are so many it's hard to keep up with, the story and pacing is non-existent and they seemed like they tried to jam 3-4 whole seasons worth of story time and development in a 8-episode season which obviously wouldn't work. and it down-right fetishizes Angels SA by Valentino in episode 4, Valentino isn't written to be liked, where as some versions of the Joker are a lot more lighthearted and made to be more comical than dark (take the differences of Lego Joker and New comic 52 Joker who cut his face off) Joker is also a character with many layers, No matter what version of official content you watch, even the weirdly shippy ones (like Telltale John with Bruce) He always has more to him than meets the eye, which we have yet to see any with Valentino, also the fact that Valentino is meant to be a truly evil character with bad intentions, he hasnt even given himself a reason why he does this (not justifying, a reason why HE thinks he's right). Where-as the Joker, with his many onion layers, is a reflection of Batman, a truly Super-sane or psychotic person, someone meant to tell a message on Batman himself. You can go on novel length essays on the different Jokers and their characters while Valentino can take up maybe a Page at the most. There's also a ton more people that are down-right evil yet loved, Like Adam (not Hazbin, SK8 Infinity) Who is a freaky weirdass man with a ton of mental issues, or Cartman from Southpark, I hate him but also like him at the same time, or maybe even the entire list of Creepypasta Characters if you will, none of these people are good, Yet widely loved, and I actually used to see a bit more lighthearted Valentino fan Content before we knew exactly how he treated Angel, and Grape is a topic sadly very real unlike Jokers, pretty real phsycotic-ness, but over-the-top character.
There's also the fact that the Joker has been the star to many amazing and thought-provoking media where-as Valentino isn't. He's just the evil villain of a popular show that has been around for a few years (technically).

People love well written characters, especially villians, because it gives us something different from 'good guy that sometimes is normal' it's something that satisfies many, including myself. Valentino is just awfully written and is there to give Angel Dust some sort of character because they had no idea how to write any of these characters. As you've said, Joker has some sort of intention behind his actions but Val is sort of just there, not to mention Vivienne having a really weird rape kink and that might be why Val is a character that doesn't have much to him. This may be a stretch but I feel like he's solely there for Viv's entertainment while Joker is more understood and advanced in his writers eyes. Also, Joker is apart of a GAINT franchise with many generations of writers and study behind physiological malicious actions. He in general as a character is special and different and people absolutely adore him for it. Valentino is seen as a weird demon rapist apart of a small franchise with an awful creator that has no idea how to write her characters or be a normal person.
I hate Valentino because of how I lovee his writing. He was written to be hated and he is hated. Hate the way he treats his employees, the other Vees and always go "urgh Valentino" every time he's on screen. He's terrible, but his lines when he's with the other vees are funny to me. He's such a whiner and pathetic creature, you kinda wonder how he even got to where he is.

People were upset that a canonical child-murderer did another equally messed up crime in the game.
Oh and people were OK with it when it released but years Later Twitter threw a fit over it
And going along with the Joker parallel, there are many versions of William afton/purple guy across many fangames (an even official material)
Honestly I agree with you there are characters that are just as bad as Val (example: Cartman from South Park) 💀💀

I enjoy Val as a villain. He also makes me laugh when he says stuff that shows he isn't all that smart. I'll be happy when he gets what's coming for him
I think the only way it’s hypocritical is that you would hate how Vivziepop and her writer did for Valentino but now how maybe someone did for another bad character.
I think it's that jokers whole thing isn't just sexual bad things and he doesn't just do that while joker has done horrible things like Valentino Valentino is supposed to only be sort of a representation of sexual harassment meanwhile joker just kills people cuz he likes it
I absolutely despised the joker, but my guess is that they come from a different era of cartoons which could explain why they can see the nuances in the character rather than Valentino.
