  • How much can you make with a mobile detailing business-and what does it take to start one? We’ll tackle those questions in today’s interview with the founder of GoDetail mobile car wash business.
This video is sponsored by Stash, an investment app and platform designed to help users fast-track their financial future. Sign-up on Stash to redeem your $50 bonus here: bit.ly/3GGyEHU.
A RUclips video led Alan to his success with GoDetail. He started his car detailing business right out of high school, expecting it would be a temporary gig for the summer. When he saw another auto detailing business’ video-and that they were making $300 a day-he realized car detailing could be a lucrative career. He left college to focus full-time on his business, and after its first full year, he’s making an average of $50K a month at only 22 years old.
We’ll get Alan’s insights on starting a mobile detailing business in our interview. He’ll tell us what it costs to get started and what kind of gear you need as a car wash business. We’ll also get his advice on branding and advertising to quickly build a customer base, and what processes he built during the startup phase that led to such phenomenal growth once he went full-time.
One crucial key to GoDetail’s success is their consistency. Their top-notch customer experience keeps people coming back. Today Alan shares his tips on how to cultivate a positive culture of excellence, along with his advice for instilling those values and goals in your team.

Roughly just a thousand. Put as much money back into the company as possible upfront. My favorite thing about detailing is that there is A LOT of ways to do things correctly. Its a very regimented service but within those guidelines theres a lot of freedom (ie: brands for chemicals, gear, marketing)

As far as carpet and upholstery goes, that's where my strength is as well as being thorough in what I do. So far, detailing has been rewarding, at the same time challenging because of my age (46). No matter what anyone says the money doesn’t lie. Knowing Alan personally and professionally, this man proves himself everyday by the business growing on the back of his hard work. When he could have been goofing off like most people at this age he was grinding, sleep out of the question. This position is not handed out but earned. If it were handed out it couldn’t be maintained. If you want to try to get here, ultimately you can only do it with what’s inside of you, things like your work ethic, attitude, and motivation. Don’t sleep!

The thing i hated about doing mobile detailing was the money I left on the table. I’m in DFW so there’s a lot of traffic. The time it takes to setup/breakdown, traffic and time it takes to go to every location I left around 450 a day on the table vs doing it out of my garage. I can tell clients to drop off their vehicles the night before or early morning and then start on them around 6am. No extra money on a shop since I’m doing it from home. No money on gas, vehicles or extra insurance. I will be getting a shop down the line as we grow.

Anyone else detail their family cars to perfection just for the right to live at home? Oh and the garden, and the house. I had detailed over 1000 cars on my own before I was 18.
