- In late 1966, Chevrolet released the muscle car that would change the world and set the standard for years to come. A young 25 year-old racer looking for a competitive edge in the NHRA class racing world was about to purchase a big block Chevelle before spotting the new race-ready 302 cubic inch four-speed machine. The gamble paid off resulting in the car and team going down in history.

Bobby - thank you for doing your Interview series. To capture this gentleman’s history and stories of 1960’s is a true treasure. Fantastic.
I met Ben last year at Rockingham. He broke an engine, Saturday, and he and Jerry MacNeish changed engines so he could run on Sunday! Great guy. FYI: My first trip to a drag race was April 1968, at Capitol Raceway.
Wow racers helping racers is always nice to see!
Man, I absolutely love Stock Eliminator! A car show and a drag race all rolled up in one.
Absolutely and that’s what I am trying to show everyone.
Seems like a really genuine guy and his brother. Drag racing never leaves your blood!
That car is bound to be in the NHRA museum some day.
Wow...this guy is a time capsule: 348s, 409s, 396s, 302s, muncie transmissions, a clutch from a guy who used to race hemis...too cool! Great interview, Mr. Fazio!
That was cool! Those two brothers are epic!!!
One of the greatest stories in NHRA drag racing! I started racing a Jr. Stocker in 1966....That car is legendary....and it's amazing that they are still racing it and are able to !! I drove a '69 Z a couple times in 1970....F/S fully prepared Stocker.....
F/S Cool car for sure. Thank you for watching. Please subscribe if you haven’t.
You have that right Adam! Dave and Ben are the salt of the earth! Two nicer guys you will not find!
Two great guys still racing their camaro
How could anyone NOT love Stock Eliminator? Great looking cars, awesome people, something for everyone in Stock Eliminator. Thanks for another great interview my friend, Semper Fidelis.

@@driverinterviews Been a subscriber since the first time I watched a video on your channel my friend. Semper Fidelis!
Awesome cool story. I was so happy listening to how he won the 67 YS Nationals in Stock eliminated. ;0)
Wow what a cool video. I bet he's the only original owner 67 z/28 on the planet. He's a true Hot Rodders and that car found the right owner for life. Thanks for sharing the video 👍
He is definitely the original owner with all the original parts. I graduated with Daves son. The car is famous where we live
@@mikefick5466 That's pretty dang cool man!
Great interview Bobby - Wenzels are wonderful guys and you did a great job of asking them all the right questions.
Thanks for watching.
Wow - what an absolutely great story - thanks a bunch!
Wow, that was a good one ! These guys should write a memoir.
I wish they could race that car for ever, what great guys! my favorite stock eliminator car, I hope it goes to NHRA museum. Great interview Bobby
Same here. It is going to be sad when they have to stop. Would love to see it go in a museum.
They probably ran the tri city dragway in freeland mi back in the day. Awesome to see these guys out there still doing what they love.

This is one of your best videos Bobby. One of my favorite Drivers/cars
Those 302's were hell when they was well!! Very hard to beat on the street they didn't just turn a lot of RPM'S they wound up so fast and were gone before most were just getting up they hurt a lot of feelings
I remember these guys racing from back in the late 60’s. Ben is absolutely right when he brings up the L78 396’s in the ‘65 Chevelle. I’m sure his old 409 was now obsolete at that point. Believe it was called the Z11 package in the ‘65 Chevelle. ‘67 Camaro’s were their first year and still the best looking particularly this one in the Teal color. You should ask Ben what rpm he goes thru the traps at! I’ll bet he’s at 8000 or more.
I believe the 65 Chevelle with the big 396 was the Z16?! I remember Chevrolet giving one of these to Dan Blocker from the Bonanza series!
@@badgerbait8351 think you are correct on both things😎
Z11 might have been a 1963 Biscayne 427??
@@kimmorrison9169 That sounds right! The "mystery motor", I believe!
@@badgerbait8351 the mystery motor and the z11 are 2 different engines. The z11 was based off the W 409 and the mystery motor was the new big block engine.
@@hs400 That's right. It's all coming back to me!
I have a stock bore 1967 302 engine out here in Arizona, with correct date heads if either you or Jerry need to acquire a spare.
Awesome car!
That is all good stuff!!!!! Other comment where Jerry helped him change engines. All really good. The in car camera and sound. Sooooo good!!!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!!!
Thanks for watching and spread the word!
Cool' I've got an old 1967 popular hot rodding engine annual magazine with a feature on this car 'great to see car and drivers still doing it🙂
Awesome! Yes it was so cool to meet them. If you are anywhere near Indianapolis I would advise you to come Labor Day weekend and you will see tons of them.
@@driverinterviews actually it might be in an advertisement for a speed equipment manufacturer rather than a feature ' I'd have to have another look. It shows Ben in shorts 't shirt and flip flops standing beside it' those early Camaro's are beautiful. I'm not what you could say is anywhere near Indianapolis 'I'm in the south island of New Zealand 😁
You should show at least one round of racing with the interviews!
Another “Most Excellent Interview!” I’m sorry Ben / Dave and I never got to race one another as we both were in D/S. They being too far away from Arizona or me being constantly in some sorta car prison for eternity. Would have been a great race and win, lose or draw, a highlight of my career in Stock Eliminator. I love those little 302’s and if I were to build another Stocker, surely they would be worthy of consideration. And that’s no easy combo! Any idea what the asking price is? Should be bought by the Peterson Museum.
Keep those interview coming!
I just wish I could have been around back in the day. Thank you for watching. Be sure to subscribe to my channel.

Wow..he won 6500 in 67 that's about 58k in today's money...most don't pay that much today no wonder why everyone wanted to buy a car and go racing....
Beautiful Camaro
That lil small block is a screamer....ive seen 327's get to 10k rpms...

Traci Birtch races cars with the Wetzel name on the car 55 chevy
what rpm does he turn and it said for sale on the side of the car , is it really for sale ?
Shifting around 8000 and going through the traps at 8500. Yes they are selling.
Killer content
Thank you!
Great interview. 🇺🇸 Growing up in the 60s. Used to seeing that. Finally got my own 69 Z in 1970. They are great cars. 👍 🇺🇸
says for sale. how much?
I think 200k
I wonder what this car would sell for?
I think they want 200 or 300k I can’t remember.
Did he say 5.86 rear gears?
Yes these 302s like to rev.
WE Used 5:86 GEARS in My 1965 Chevy II IN SS/JA Back in 1974.. Switched to 6:14 GEARS and tossed 2 Rod's through the block... Major Bummer that day..!!
