Great Review thanks I had previously actually thought this module were only for an electronic set up and did not know this could be implemented into a live kit or set up Thanks again And nice foot work at end of vid
No problem. Just remember. this isn't to use MY settings. its to learn how to set it up yourself so if something changes you can fix it yourself on the fly
Yeah for sure everybody's settings are different and everyone tunes their drums differently it took a second to find the best number for the gain and other settings. Thank you for making it clear. I didn't have anyone do that for me. Really appreciate this video. Check out Enslave the Creation, Flub, or Psychosomatic when you have a chance! Beyond betrayal is your band? I'll check it out!
Thank you SO much!!! simplified at it's finest. This is the only video that has actually helped & answered all my questions & any confusion I've had about kick triggers and settings. Not even most people like the guys at the drum shop or Guitar Center were able to answer my questions about this type of stuff. Not only am I going to buy a kick trigger over an "internal kick mic (which doesn't cut it when playing various fast-metal styles)", but I think I will purchase an Alesis DM5 while I'm at it. #Legit
thanks man. I have a few videos on this type of thing. I have actualy been using my roland module and I like it much more.. they have a new cheaper module out that has 2 inputs.. I would check it out..
Thanks man. Click LIke. Click subscribe.......... I'll try and make some more videos out to help everyone with this kind of stuff! glad to hear it helped you
Very helpful. The DM5 is great as a simple module for metal kick. I have an old matching Midiverb that's been laying around, I wonder if putting it in the chain with the DM5 with some very light reverb would help give it a more natural sound.
Nico Axis no. there is plenty of inputs. just change another input to a bass drum sample. second option is a splitter cable. 2 inputs both with bass drum sample will work best though
Hey man. I just got an RT-30K with this module as well. Problem is that the DM5 doesn't detect any sort of response from the RT-30K at all. Do you have any idea what the issue could be?
Good video, I am just getting back into triggering and I wanted an Alesis because of the rack mounting option. You got some quick feet there too, dang \m/
fair enough. I was going to toss this snare.. used brasso, helped the oxidization, but still looked awful. my hoop was an oval after and i had to form/bend it back round myself. but it wasn't too hard. still sounds great. and its held up very well. If the snare was in good condition before i never would have
Hey am I the idiot here or is there no way to save these external trigger settings? Even after doing the STORE function on the selected kit after adjusting GAIN and VCRV, it still wipes clean and resets default EXT TRIG settings on my DM5 when I turn it off and back on.
I have this module...I can't get the closed high hat to sound even remotely loud enough...is it me? Is something faulty? Or am I missing an adjustment parameter to raise only the closed high hat volume?
My D5 wheel doesn't select in sequence, it skips all over the place...I can't program it to my Zendrum zx pads... Also I heard you said you made it the D4 with the D5 well that worked is that work for my Zendrum? I've been using my D4 until my friend gave me his D5 with the problem... where should I go or can I go to get this fixed?
My MIDI out stopped working. Everything else works fine -- been pouring through the manual. It's 8+ years old so maybe it just blew out. Any ideas if I'm missing something? I want to use it with superior drummer. Thanks!
+marco antonio dominguez garcia Gain es el volúmen de la señal que entra al trigger, mientras volumen es la el volúmen de la señal que sale del trigger. El Vcrv tiene que ver con la sensibilidad del input.
I had the same issue. make sure they feel VERY even. I have a few how too's on my channel too... one thing i usualy do is pull my left beater back slightly more than my right and it makes it feel more even to me..
hi.. nice video explanation.. im looking into getting 3 dm5 modules for as massive e-kit projject im working on... see the pic in my profile :) and i just wanted to know, after you set the v curv to 7...do you get a completely even volume on every single hit ? or is the volume slightly fluctuating ? because in my yamaha dtxpress modulesis could set the minimum volume to be played to its MAX level..so the same volume used to come out whether i hit low or hard.
Thank you for this tutorial !! Will try this thurdsay @ rehearsal ;) This Alesis 've got a lot of interresting sound but he's also very hard to setting ah ah !
I've never try producer. Pillow is pretty good, with -4 on the setting "tune". And actually, i'm playing with Speed metal, with -2 on the setting "tune"
It has SLIGHT variations. I get around this by turning up the gain abit more, then they are all full volume, but you have to counter that by turning up the threshold a bit so its not easy to trigger. haha 3 of them? thats going to be a monster of a kit!
Hey I have the same drum module and I'm undecided on what speakers to use. Which ones are you using in the video? Or which kind can I use any help is appreciated thanks.
I have a PA system I bought used off of someone. just a few large Yamaha 15 inch speakers. Remember if you have to hear it over drums and guitars you need em pretty loud.. few hundred watts should do.
I have. What are you having an issue with? I used to double trigger on my e-kits due to bad technique.. you CAN NOT rest your left foot with the e-kits. they are also very sensitive... i have used them and set them up though
beyondbetrayal I think that's the problem I'm having...maybe being carless when my feet rest. I'm playing on 2 single pedals so its a pain dialing in both triggers because you have to do it one at a time to see which on it too sensitive or not sensitive enough. but then when I'm playing a single stroke roll i play differently then when I'm using one kick to try and dial it in lol its a headache!
Ilanney same reason i switched to a ddrum... it allows me to rest my left foot.... don't rest your foot on the skin, even when playing with the other foot... a few things you can do are set the hammer to trigger JUST before the pedal hits the skin.. that really helped for me.
yeah I gotta mess around with them (their at my buddyies house where we jam right now , which SUCKS! lol) but yeah ive always been a Ddrum guy too but my trigger got damaged while moving back from college so i eventually just went with the ekits. they might not be for me though, we will see! lol thanks
Ilanney let me know if you got more questions.. they work amazing if you have good technique. lol.. so don't rest ur foot. or try what i said. with 2 kick drums you may get away with it if you set it to trigger BEFORE the beater hits the head...
Que tal buen video pero pudieras hacer uno espesificando bien los pasos para editar el bombo gracias no entiendo el ingles pero se be bien el video solo que no entiendo a cual y cual boton apretarele oara editarlo saludos y gracias
+shhme3 All triggers work the same way so this would work on the D4, Roland modules, Yamaha etc. The thing is to listen to what I'm explaining and not just use MY settings because they probably won't work for you. You can use them as a starting point but its good to learn how to adjust them when you need to.
haha ya. i got that after my first post..DW clicked in. $50 powder job.. turned out great. minor change to the sound. slightly less harsh. but hard to tell. still cuts threw anything
Dude I have a Drum Staff Drum and I switched the module to an Alesis DM5 - it was much more than the Staff, but I'm having a serious problem, depending on the number of pieces used simultaneously, it has to turn on and off. It's not overheating, because I can play for hours if I make a simple beat, but when I use too many pieces it hangs. Does your module do this? I have already researched and if I do not put any information it takes a bit longer to lock, but as a factory the box comes very low and the very loud dishes force me to save only 1 single bank. I really need some support. From now on I thank you for your attention. Hug.
I don't know what you mean by dishes, but no. it shouldn't hang. These things are pretty old. too many peices? you should be able to trigger with every input as fast as you want without it freezing on you.
I speak from Brazil. My module is crashing when I attack with speed or use many pieces at the same time. Could you tell me what I could do? I already used the RESET but it did not work.
First of all I would like to thank you for your attention. It may be the same battery I'm going to change and I'm very keen for it to be just this. I'll tell you later. A hug.
When my battery died it would loose the settings when I powered it off. If it is locking up when you check inside make sure the capacitors are not leaking.
haha thats what this video was NOT for... learn how to find your OWN settings.. all triggers and drums are different.. you can use it as a starting point but it won't be the same as mine!... good luck and hope it works.. let me know if you have any questions or issues
I'm affraid to powdercoat my shell because the powdercoating fellas are kindda smartest in the world and don't really pay attention to what I say. They 'F'ed up my lugs and hoops. I’ve gotten a lot of miles from this video over the years. My DM5 is still kicking. Much appreciation man!
I love my TM2 these days but the DM5 worked well for me
Great Review thanks

Yeah took about a week to adjust my trigger and find the correct settings.
Check my band dissolution or in2months on my channel. If you have more questions i can give you a hand. Happy drumming

Does making the velocity curve at 7 make every note equally loud, regardless of how hard you hit?
hey
iam using a alesis dm 5 and my question is how I can put 2 bass drum triggers in the drum modul
it only got one input
Nico Axis no. there is plenty of inputs. just change another input to a bass drum sample. second option is a splitter cable. 2 inputs both with bass drum sample will work best though
thank you :)
Thanks for this. Super helpful. Just got this module along with Roland RT-30K's and settings work perfectly.
Hey man. I just got an RT-30K with this module as well. Problem is that the DM5 doesn't detect any sort of response from the RT-30K at all. Do you have any idea what the issue could be?
its pretty hard to find anyone with a video for Dm5 settins, i will try theese settings.
thanks!
Good video, I am just getting back into triggering and I wanted an Alesis because of the rack mounting option. You got some quick feet there too, dang \m/
@ckyro121 thanks. I'd check out thr TM2 though. Way better than the alesis

I’m having the same issue. Anyone have a solution?😂
Same problem
So if I have a bass drum trigger and a module and an amp is that all I need?
I have this module...I can't get the closed high hat to sound even remotely loud enough...is it me? Is something faulty? Or am I missing an adjustment parameter to raise only the closed high hat volume?
Sorry man. I use the TM2 now. Haven't touched the DM5 in a few years but maybe another viewer will answer
@@beyondbetrayal I figured it out...it was a real bone headed thing...definitely my bad! :)
@@lgmnowkondo938 haha right on!
Kinda spooky that I just picked up my dm5 kit and brain from storage yesterday and I just now get this video recommended to me O.o
HAHA rock on. Man, those things are getting old. Happy it still works for ya.
@@beyondbetrayal honestly, I've barely used it and so it's still in great condition, for now muhahaha.
Is the item for sale?
This video was soooo helpful!! Thank you very much!
how do you save these setings?
mine doesnt seem to save them after I turn off the module and turn it on again.
saveing a drumset didnt work eithet..
the battery inside is most likely dead. its just a watch battery. without it it won't keep the settings.
Ohh thath might be it! Thank you very mush for your answer! :)
Just found your chanel yesterday, seems really good!
Feel free to subscribe. I try to help out where I can. I don't use the DM5 anymore though. I use a Roland TM-2. It is much better.
What about two kick triggers? How do you set and adjust for two kick triggers?
The exact same as one. you plug in a second cable and do it all on another channel.
My D5 wheel doesn't select in sequence, it skips all over the place...I can't program it to my Zendrum zx pads... Also I heard you said you made it the D4 with the D5 well that worked is that work for my Zendrum? Just get a tm2 id you can. D5 is SO old now.
olá !
O que o senhor está usando para captar o impulso eletrônico do modulo? vai direto para o mixer?
Trigger ou Microfone ?
piezo eletrico tambem é otimo
Is that Pearl snare powdercoated in blue with whide lugs and hoops? I remember one fella posted picture of it on DW forum
im going to go and try it out, thx for the tip
My MIDI out stopped working. Everything else works fine -- been pouring through the manual. It's 8+ years old so maybe it just blew out. Any ideas if I'm missing something? I want to use it with superior drummer. Thanks!
do midi devices work on that pc/laptop? make sure you chose all channels.
Yes, thanks, I've had it working 8 years and it suddenly stopped. I contacted Alesis tech support and my DM5 appears to have a broken midi port. :(
Well done, Sir.
Hi
It is still worth to buy used dm5 + rt30k for beginning adventure with triggering? Or better to save money for tm2?
Save up for the TM2 and rt30k 100%
DM5 was good in it's time, but TM2 triggers better, and you can use your own samples..
@@beyondbetrayal Hi thanks for great advice i already got used tm2 with rt30k and this stuff i great :) I owe you a beer :)

can u get the old simmon SDSV sound from this? If yes, is it tuneable? May I assume this brain works with the simmon sds pads? Thanks.

TM2 hands down

You can also upload your own sounds to the TM2, the DM5 doesn't have that function.
