You need to use Remo Muff'ls inside the drums to control the ring. I also use the muff'ls under mesh heads. I used ddrum triggers with an old ddrum2 unit, and they are awesome.
The 5 pc kit is just $99. I play on a 4 pc, and intend to get a good 2 zone for my snare, but IMO? These are awesome for someone like myself who's looking to convert a small acoustic kit and needing spares just in case anything breaks?! Great demo my dude! Thanks!
The biggest thing in triggering acoustic drums is you have to know your unit the sensitivities of the trigger when i play live i turn my sensitivity way up high and when i record in the studio i turn my sensitivities down
Hey Justin, do you know of any acoustic triggers that work well on acoustic drums with mylar heads that you don't need to completely deaden the head to make it work?
In order to use the "Red triggers" correctly, you are supposed to fill the drums with rubber foam or any light material that will silence the acoustic sounds leaking from the drums. If you follow that procedure and connect them with the "ddrum AT module" you should get a perfect triggering! AT stands for Acoustic Triggering. Thanx for a good show by the way!
It may sound strange but that is the way the top 40 bands do it in Sweden. Thus getting moore power to the drum sound through the PA-system. It's the "Scandinavian School". Test it, 'cause you might even like it! Also it prevents two drum sources! So it does make sence! Right?
i've been recording some metal drumming (with real cymbals), and still i have all of my red shot triggers working very well. (three years with them). They are very good with acoustic heads and of course some dampening!. Nice video!!
Thanks for making this. I'm looking to get some triggers to use on mesh heads to hybridise my kit, these are the cheapest option, followed by "Tdrum" triggers on Thomann so didn't want to order them without a review, but they seem good to use with mesh heads.
Hi. Is DDrum DDTi the same equipment as Alesis Trigger IO, only a different manufacturer? If so, do both modules have a cymbal choke function? I have 3 additional Roland crash cymbals (two-zone) and I would like to connect them to the Alesis Trigger IO, which will work as a slave module with the Roland TD-30 module (via midi cable). I want to have a working cymbals choke funcion for the cymbals connected to the Alesis Trigger IO. Regards.
Seen these around for a long time and your explanation is solid, but never truly considered them for my kits. Great info on the sensitivity of mesh heads and, for all those who wish to know, is there a dual zone trigger out there that fits that particular role?
I've had the best luck with these using them on medium-dampened Remo Pinstripe heads and Aquarian Reflectors. Reflectors are thicc. Oh, and I always keep my toms tuned really low,, and it didn't take much work to get the triggers close to perfect.
I installed these on a hybrid kit I built. I drive them with a Roland TD50 brain and rtom mesh heads. Needed to tweek the trigger settings, but they are awesome for the price. Would have bought the ddrum clamp on, but not buying all new xlr cables.
this may be a stupid question, but could you just adjust velocity on the interface and use this, lets say on a piece of wood for triggering non-sensity-responsive drum machine samples?
okay, so i put these on a pearl rhythm traveler with those triggers with the remo silent strokes. i get a shit ton of double triggering how would i fix that?
So it doesn't work as well with 1ply mesh drumheads. That's what the silent strokes are. BUT I tried it and got it to work. Try tuning the mesh head a little more loose. Or a little more tight. Also mess around with the drum module settings. I made a whole video about what you can do to avoid double triggering.
4:03 -> "It doesn't make any sense" ... I thought; ..... the XLR has a little lock, so with movement of the drum, the cable can't fall out. It won't fall out with a jack plug, but that one hasn't got an extra click-lock. 🙂 . Thanks for this video. I'm gonna order 2 ddrum-triggers now. Great. Looking forward to trying these out. . Thumbs up.
Is it a problem if I use this trigger with the cable provided with the module (it’s a trs one) in terms of getting even more double triggering? cause right now it sounds really bad, and I’m assuming it’s my single ply mesh head, but just wanted to confirm if the stereo cable might be making it even worse
Hi , Just few questions. I want to trigger an acoustic drum set with a simple module like Roland Tm2. Just to have more punchy bass drum and snare plus a pad for 'bonus' What triggers should I buy? Thank you. regards from Milan .
if that one is not good for snare, which one snare trigger would you recomend? also with low budget. another question: there is triggers for symbols? than you very much for your answer and thanks a lot for your videos
Hi. Great review. Your videos are super informative! I would like some advice from you if it's okay. In Bangladesh, we have a local drum shell manufacturer called BESHI JOSS DRUMS (BJD). I've asked him to make me shells in the following sizes: 10x4" rack tom 1, 12x5" snare, 14x6" floor tom, 16x13" kick (specs from Pearl Rhythm Traveller). Since I want to make a custom electronic kit to trigger vsti such as superior drummer, I don't really need regular drum kit dimensions. I have four questions: 1) What would wood(s) you recommend for longevity of the kit? 2) What brand of mesh heads should I put on to get that 'similar feeling of playing an acoustic kit' but is quiet enough to be played in an apartment? 3) What triggers do you just for the snare (need to trigger rimshots as well), toms (1 rack and 1 floor) & kick? 4) What brand of cymbals and hats do you recommend? Quiet but sensitive ones. I have an Alesis dm-6 drum module to trigger the DIY electronic kit
1. Wood doesn't really have an impact for electronics 2. I like Jobeky heads for toms, still looking for the perfect kick and snare mesh heads. But Roland and Hart are great options too 3. Rdrums/Jobeky 4. Roland
JUstin I know this vid is a few years old - I can get hold of some DDrum clip on tuners - I have an old alesis DM5 module which the (crappy) audio sounds inside long ago died -I want to hear my drums play through a module as they are recording midi data only (I record to SD3) What brain were you using to get that 2ply mesh head to sound so great? your Roland? - Would the DDRUMS D3x be a good module for the DDrums triggers? HEY! Love your Videos! these help a lot! two questionsthough : in the "RT10/RT30 Video" you say, the roland triggers loose the soft hits... how is this with these Redshots? and 2nd: did you ever try the triggera intrig triggers? how do you like them compared to the jobeky triggers... how about a comparison video? :) keep up the work!!! its great!!!
My rt 30 hr was inconsistent missing alot of hits with Roland 3 ply head. Others say they are designed for mylar heads. This trigger seems to perform better for way cheaper on mesh. I went back to my pd-120. Couldnt dial in the settings on the rt30hr.
Thanks Justin! Question for you or anyone else seeing this. What is the best trigger to use on an acoustic floor tom tuned regularly? I’ve had the same issue with the Roland HT30 on mine and I’m looking for something that works well. Thanks!!
Do you have any reviews of the DDrum Elite's and or know if I could use them with a Roland SPD-30 or SPD-S? I want to find the best way to keep my acoustic drums but add triggering to them. Any advice is appreciated.
hey man, instead of Roland td11kv , i am planning to buy acoustic drum sets, primarily, Yamaha stage custom birch or tama silverstar birch . Can you help me choose anyone between the two. i know both are great kits, bang for the buck. will be highly appreciated man!! and a great video
Did you watch the video? I tested the redshots on Remo silent strokes, did not perform well. They are great triggers when paired with 2ply heads. That setup should work :)
Have you had any experience with megadrum ? My TD-6 doesn't support 3-zone rides so I'm thinking of getting megadrum and using it with addictive drums.
Will do, thanks man. Is there much difference in feel between 1 ply silentstrokes and 2 plys eg roland powerply? Since if possible I'd like to get silentstroke on my toms to save some money as the budget is tight, but not if it causes a noticeable differential in feel between them and the 2 ply snare
You can skimp on the drumhead to save money, the 2ply mesh heads feel better, and the module reacts to them more accurately. There are cheaper options out there than Roland Powerply. Check ebay :)
the most under rated under documented trigger of all times! at last I see it in action. Thank you
Yesss! I've known that they exist, but no one makes videos about them
on my channel i use ddrum acoustic pro triggers if anyone wants to see demonstration of them in use
good video! are you triggering mesh heads with those triggers, or acoustic heads?
thanks I'm using remo silent stroke its them
@@65Drums I did, in Sept 2010! :) ruclips.net/video/DpfXCd24CAY/видео.html
You need to use Remo Muff'ls inside the drums to control the ring. I also use the muff'ls under mesh heads. I used ddrum triggers with an old ddrum2 unit, and they are awesome.
You can use single-ply mesh heads if you use moon gels next to the trigger (for double triggering) and a patch in the middle.
The 5 pc kit is just $99.
I play on a 4 pc, and intend to get a good 2 zone for my snare, but IMO? These are awesome for someone like myself who's looking to convert a small acoustic kit and needing spares just in case anything breaks?!
Great demo my dude!
Thanks!
The biggest thing in triggering acoustic drums is you have to know your unit the sensitivities of the trigger when i play live i turn my sensitivity way up high and when i record in the studio i turn my sensitivities down
Appreciate your detail reviews and my go-to reviewing drum stuff.
Been using these awesome triggers with V-drum mesh heads since the early 2000's!
I am thinking of putting these on my acoustic kit but with remo silent stroke! Do you think it would be good?
@@martinadolfsson5762 Yes I do but of course you can't be 100 percent sure until you try it.
So i can mount these on home depot 5 gallon buckets and im good to go?
Hey Justin, do you know of any acoustic triggers that work well on acoustic drums with mylar heads that you don't need to completely deaden the head to make it work?
How did you get a v-drum head on that Tom?
For me I just used a drum that is the same size as the head. The rim holds it down just fine.
Hey Justin, loving the name change. Keep up the video's they're excellent!
I really appreciate that man! Thank you!
Hey dude can you do a review on the new ddrum Chrome Elite Drum triggers vs the older red ones?
In order to use the "Red triggers" correctly, you are supposed to fill the drums with rubber foam or any light material that will silence the acoustic sounds leaking from the drums. If you follow that procedure and connect them with the "ddrum AT module" you should get a perfect triggering! AT stands for Acoustic Triggering. Thanx for a good show by the way!
+Johan Belfrage 😒 well that's no fun. Who wants to ruin the tone of a acoustic drum like that?
It may sound strange but that is the way the top 40 bands do it in Sweden. Thus getting moore power to the drum sound through the PA-system. It's the "Scandinavian School". Test it, 'cause you might even like it! Also it prevents two drum sources! So it does make sence! Right?
i've been recording some metal drumming (with real cymbals), and still i have all of my red shot triggers working very well. (three years with them). They are very good with acoustic heads and of course some dampening!. Nice video!!
Do you use one for the snare or did you trade it out for a dual zone?
Thanks for making this. I'm looking to get some triggers to use on mesh heads to hybridise my kit, these are the cheapest option, followed by "Tdrum" triggers on Thomann so didn't want to order them without a review, but they seem good to use with mesh heads.
can you connect this trigger to any module/interface ? ej. i have a yamaha module, can i plug it into it ?
your vids are not only helpful but really funny and easy to watch. you deserve the same amount of views and subs as a big channel like jared dines
"everything is harder on camera" ; i try to explain that to my girlfriend but she did not believe me
^^

Your videos are top shelf, can you try and get your hands on the magnatrack triggers and do a review?
I tried a few years ago, but they only lasted a week or two and then broke on me. So I never made the video review
i hate mesh heads...do the triggers work on normal heads?
Seen these around for a long time and your explanation is solid, but never truly considered them for my kits. Great info on the sensitivity of mesh heads and, for all those who wish to know, is there a dual zone trigger out there that fits that particular role?
Hey what would be the difference of using a kick trigger on snare ?

Oh, and I always keep my toms tuned really low,, and it didn't take much work to get the triggers close to perfect.
Who makes 3-ply mesh heads?
Can this be a a better replacement instead of installing a piezo inside the snare ?
dont use this for a snare trigger - only use it for toms. I would reccomend a 2 zone trigger for a snare drum for more realism.
I installed these on a hybrid kit I built. I drive them with a Roland TD50 brain and rtom mesh heads. Needed to tweek the trigger settings, but they are awesome for the price. Would have bought the ddrum clamp on, but not buying all new xlr cables.
dude buying a complete set of Quarter Inch to XLR cables is expensive. I had to do it once for a video with 1990s DDrum pads
Excellent explanation I saw one listed on Facebook for 10 bucks and I didn’t have a clue what it was or did thanks for your video
hi everyone, i need an information . can i connect a trigger direct to a mixer?
i would like to know if it will work
Could you tell me what module youre going through?
this may be a stupid question, but could you just adjust velocity on the interface and use this, lets say on a piece of wood for triggering non-sensity-responsive drum machine samples?
or am I going into the wrong direction? maybe just using contact mics or other gear could by smarter.. just started thinking about this idea
You can adjust the sensitivity in the module if that's what you're getting at
okay, so i put these on a pearl rhythm traveler with those triggers with the remo silent strokes. i get a shit ton of double triggering how would i fix that?
So it doesn't work as well with 1ply mesh drumheads. That's what the silent strokes are. BUT I tried it and got it to work. Try tuning the mesh head a little more loose. Or a little more tight. Also mess around with the drum module settings. I made a whole video about what you can do to avoid double triggering.
Do you know if the trigger will fit on the rim with a rubber cap?
What would have made this perfect is to show the module that you used.
4:03 -> "It doesn't make any sense" ...
I thought; ..... the XLR has a little lock, so with movement of the drum, the cable can't fall out.
It won't fall out with a jack plug, but that one hasn't got an extra click-lock. 🙂

Great. Looking forward to trying these out.

How can we use in cymble ? Plz suggest me brother
What about dynamic range? Does it depend on the trigger or the drum module?
will it fit on the bass drum? ;(

It works good on bass drum ?
What’s the best low cost module for the triggers?
Can I use the same triggers for all of my drums toms, snare, kick, cymbals
Hi , Just few questions. I want to trigger an acoustic drum set with a simple module like Roland Tm2. Just to have more punchy bass drum and snare plus a pad for 'bonus' What triggers should I buy? Thank you. regards from Milan .
Fantastic. ...now what’s a trigger?
The electronic drum sensor
65 Drums Uh, huh... and? What’s it do?
Gool, you could use it to layer sounds at your snare drum:)
absolutely:)
I get a better response with the simmons trigger and i have batter heads on my drums i tried the d drum trigger they dont sound as good live
nice job on the review, keep it up
if that one is not good for snare, which one snare trigger would you recomend? also with low budget.
another question: there is triggers for symbols?
than you very much for your answer and thanks a lot for your videos
Does the redshot triggers come with cables or do I have to buy them separate ?
I think you'll have to buy the a cables separate. Best place is Amazon, that's where I buy mine.
Hi, will this works with roland td17 module? Thanks
yes
will these work with the yamaha dtx502 if i put 2ply mesh heads on my acoustic kit?

so I found a "new in box" ELECTRIC DD1 plus for sale on craigslist for $499, is that a good deal?

Where can I get a two or three ply mesh head for acoustic drums? I've looked everywhere can't find any
ebay, thats where I buy mine. Also 682drums.com sells them
A heavy coin or something over the trigger maybe work... Weight/Sensor ratio.
The redshot works better with mylar if it is tight and stuffed

Yamaha makes incredible acoustic drums. I'd get the yamaha stage custom
Hi! Can you use the trigger on the bodies of an acoustic drum silenced? Thanks
ELIXIR OFICIAL you can use this on the rim of any drum
hi, quick question. what is the most cost effective module you can buy to use with, say, Superior Drummer?
thank you!
Well it depends on how many imputs you need. But a yamaha DTX500 module is decent for around $300 used.
*$200 used
65 Drums would it be compatible with DDRUMS triggers and Roland cymbals?
Also, can that trigger backtrack, say, for a song about a setlist length? Thanks so much!
Honestly I don't know
what do you think about the Roland RT-30HR Dual Zone Trigger?
I've heard some great things about them
would you consider them over the DDrum ones?
The roland ones are more high quality
I’m just gonna grab the acoustic pros. The difference in price is worth it.
Nice whats a good external trigger to capture rimshots?
You could just buy a trigger that captures both zones. I say that because I don't know what to recomend for a rim trigger
Do you think remo silentstrokes and red shots are a good combo for toms? thinking about doing that + roland powerply and RT30HR for snare. Thoughts?
Did you watch the video? I tested the redshots on Remo silent strokes, did not perform well. They are great triggers when paired with 2ply heads. That setup should work :)
Didn't actually realise the head you were using to demonstrate 1ply was the silentstroke. It seems ok In your video for the toms?
Hey man! Are you using a Roland TD-30 for this ?
What drum module did you use with the ddrum trigger here? I am thinking of getting these and a DTX502. Any thoughts?
Roland TD30 module is what I used. The DTX502 is decent. I like the TD11 module more though.
Have you had any experience with megadrum ? My TD-6 doesn't support 3-zone rides so I'm thinking of getting megadrum and using it with addictive drums.
To my knowledge, Megadrum isn't solid here in the USA so I haven't played one before.
great advice!🤙🤙🤙
What’s the red clamp on snare for ? Pls advise
Hey Justin. I'm looking to get a edrum kit. I have a budget of 3000. what would you recommend? love you Videos. very educational.
Roland TD25kv is a good kit for around that price. Or if you get lucky on ebay, you might find a used Roland TD30k for $3000. Good luck, and thanks:)
Man are you a drummer do you play live shows
Yes I'm a drummer. Yes I play live occasionally
works well i heard nothing but doubble triggering the whole time dude
It double triggered only on certain heads. I own the thing, trust me, it works fine.
roland mesh heads these are what i used to convert my drums to edrums www.quartzpercussions.com/store
Roland Mesh Heads are getting harder to find these days
Do you know how good the Roland RT30 is with a 1 ply silentstroke for snare? Or if a 2ply is still recommended
Nope, go with 2ply. Less double triggering.
Good point. Thanks for the tips.
