    Okay awesomeness i tightened the head a bit. Put extra muffling i actually put sensitivity at 32 and it picked up nicely . i tried your settings some of them worked for me others not so much but i tried them nonetheless to see how they function for my playing. Maybe when i get better and faster I'll chage up some of the settings. Thank you for all your help though really appreaciate it. Can't wait till you create a patreon page I'll totally support it man you helped me with my settings so much.

    Great tutorial!^^ I don't use any electronic stuff at the moment but I'll definetly come back here as soon as I do :D
    If you are still looking for video ideas: I'm thinking of an exercise that makes you more comfortable with playing independently legs and hands at the same time. for example, I usually learn a certain pattern or rhythm with my feet or hands and later on try to combine it with each other...seems to work for me (sometimes) but there might be a better way of practicing or "thinking" if you know what I'm saying xD

  • @mattvdh
    @mattvdh 6 лет назад +1

    i have the TM2 and it's alright but like you said the signal strength or its built in preamp is very weak. I'm thinking of either getting a signal booster or just replacing the TM2 with the SPDSX because it has a stronger processor as well. I mean the TM2 works fine, but I think the SPDSX is the better module for death metal. It has the separate headphone jacks with individual volume control for the output and heaphones and you can load in your own samples and click tracks. Spencer Prewitt talks about it in a gear video

    • @beyondbetrayal
      @beyondbetrayal  6 лет назад +2

      What does genera of music have anything to do with why it would be better? Sure the SPDSX does more stuff, but I'm not paying 5X the price for a headphone knob. Sure it has a faster processor, but I have never had any lag issues with the TM-2. I can upload my own samples to the TM-2 as well. I only use one kick sample as well. If you needed more pads to do song intros and things like that the SPDSX might be a better choice as that is the only limiting factor on the TM-2 is the inputs/pads. Just turn the gain to plus 2 on the TM2 and that fixes the low output. also check my videos and I have one of the $60 mixer I bought. I run my inears in that and can adjust my kick volume without messing with the FOH volume.

    Have you ever experienced the TM-2 not booting up properly? On mine, the screen will light up when I turn it on but the text won't appear. I'll have to unplug it and plug it back in and turn it on again from there.
    The other issue I've been having lately is when I split an input. Triggering the head/rim from two different sources independently but from the same input jack. Itll work but then it will wind up triggering both sounds from a single source. Totally sucks when all of a sudden your bass drum sound also has a splash cymbal sound!

    Hey man, great video. Do you know what settings might change the compression of the custom trigger sound? I have this custom sound and it sounds waay different than in my DAW. It seems like the entire signal gets compressed like crazy, so the loud attack gets squashed, and the sustain gets boosted. So even though it's a sound that has veeery slight hall on it, the hall gets way louder than it should be... I thought it'd be the curve setting but it didn't seem to change anything. Any ideas?

    • @beyondbetrayal

      2 inputs as no two triggers are the same. you can also raise the retrig a bit with 2 separate triggers and eliminate double triggers better. rt-30 or pad. I forget. I don't think it made all that much difference to be honest. Threshold was the biggest difference maker on the ekits.

      You have 2 different sounds setup for each input? each one is stereo so that allows for 4 triggers total. I bet the second set of the stereo input is set to a different sound. You may have a stereo cable too.... easiest thing, if you are just triggering the kick, is to change both sounds on input 1, or both on input 2 to the exact same settings and you should be good to go.. And thank you for replying to this question as well because I barely saw it on my feed so I appreciate it and I apologize for the very long replies. Do you have a patreon page that I can support are somehow contribute because you are the first person who has actually replied to my questions about triggering and drumming so to me I find this very helpful?

    Hey man, I know this is an old post but kinda tearing our hair out so any help would be appreciated!
    I have the tm2 and rt30k trigger and kick drum skin is nice and tight but snare hits are triggering the kick drum, if the threshold is raised it eliminates the loud snare hits but then isn't picking up the kicks....struggling to find a sweet spot
    Tried putting the trigger on the side of the drum but then it wasn't registering the kicks no matter the threshold, just wondered if you had any tips to elimate the loud snare hits without triggering the bass drum?? Thanks!

    • @beyondbetrayal
      @beyondbetrayal  Год назад +1

      Make sure the kick drum has blankets etc to stop extra vibrations.
      Make sure the snare isn't right over the trigger, even slightly offest, .like 1 or 2 oclock might help you. if you put it on the side one pedal will get picked up more.....
      Make sure you are hitting the kick drum hard enough you don't need to crank the sensitivity to a million.
      It is a bit of a balancing act, If the snare is setting it off you need to either stop those viberations from setting off the trigger, (moving trigger, stuffing drum with blankets, tighten head etc.) lower sensitivity, or increase threshold....
      I find sometimes going to far on one (threshold/sensitivity) effects the other too... You
      should have to crank both or its counter intuitive.
      If the sensitivity is too high, things are going to register past the threshold level... so I set sensitivity first, then slowly increase threshold if needed.

Things have been going fine, but now that I’m pushing 260-280 on my hands, I notice my feet aren’t keeping up with heel toe, as well. Coincidentally, I had to get new shoes, and I think they have me ALL FUCKED UP down there. 1. Should I invest in a dif pair of shoes or just maybe start going in my socks? I can't heel toe at all in shoes, but I learnt it in socks. I can do slide doubles much better in shoes. Different shoes change the feel 100%. The nice thing about socks is it is consistent, I actualy ripped for a while bare foot and didn't mind it either. I do have more power wearing shoes though. Do what feels right for you. I find in socks I have to dial my spring tension back and tune the batter head tighter. I get the rebound from the head more that way and don't have to work as hard for it without the added weight of the shoes.

    Got any tips for velocity issues? I'm a rather hard hitting/kicker, and Everytime I'm doing double bass (2 bass drums) my left trigger will produce a snare pang (like Saint Anger🤮) whenever it maxes out the velocity from me hitting too hard, whereas if I hit just as hard as with right it won't max out the velocity, and will produce a kick sample. The left produces kick sample sounds, but if I hit to hard it'll throw in that snare pang to throw me off🙄
    Any help would be much appreciated! 🙏🤘

    • @beyondbetrayal

      If you are not getting double triggers it could be the cable or the fact that you have a snare sample on the second channel (each trigger has a Right and Left channel.. set both to the same kick sample.. I used to have a cowbell when I played mine and when i set them both to kick it fixed it... option 2, lower sensitivity if you don't need it.

      Just a tiny little Behringer. Basically, II run the TM-2 in mono. So one of the outputs goes to the front of house. The other to the mixer. I run my headphones from the mixer. That way I can adjust my ear volume without messing up the sound at the front of house because the knob controls both. Also you can get a monitor mix into the mixer and have independent control over the kick and the IEM mix. With the XLR input I could run an overhead or something If I wanted also but it's mostly just to adjust the kick volume.

    • @beyondbetrayal
      @beyondbetrayal  6 лет назад

      If you have the RT-30K, AND you have it set to Head and RIM, AND you are using a stereo cable, it will use the rim sensor to stop triggers from other drums. I have actually never used it, but it is a good way to maybe lower your threshold a touch and still avoid double triggers. Same as the other settings, too high and you will start to miss your quieter hits.

    • @chiefjeef9267
      @chiefjeef9267 6 лет назад

      beyondbetrayal ah ok thanks, that's what I thought. My problem I've noticed is that when I play the snare really loud, it will miss one of my hits. So what I think is happening is the. Lose cancel activates because the snare hit is loud, and it then cuts out the trigger hit I did at the same time. I'm going to turn it off and raise my threshold. Thanks as always

    • @beyondbetrayal
      @beyondbetrayal  6 лет назад

      Ya, that is weird. Is your snare triggered? That could be possible, or you may just not be hearing the trigger? I don't use that setting and have never experienced that. Let me know what you find out

    • @chiefjeef9267
      @chiefjeef9267 6 лет назад

      beyondbetrayal ok that was the problem. With noise cancel and a nice amount of muffling, I was able to set the threshold super low, all the way to 1, and the snare wouldn't trip the trigger. However, when playing heel toe stuff, it would cancel a couple hits when I hit the snare. I think playing the noise "trips" the noise cancel, and tm-2 just cancels whatever is happening at the time, that's my guess. So I turned it off, and set a real threshold and everything is good now.
      Tl;dr don't use the noise cancel features when playing heel toe, I think it's finicky and can even cancel out some hits when you hit the snare.

    • @beyondbetrayal
      @beyondbetrayal  6 лет назад +1

      Awesome... Each setting effects each other too but work slightly different. I could see maybe using a SLIGHT bit of noise cancel if your snare is actually setting it off, but sensitivity and threshold seem to curb that usually. Thanks for the update.

    • @beyondbetrayal
      @beyondbetrayal  3 года назад

      It depends i guess. For ease, Id use one trigger in each port, unless you have a way to split them into 1 plug. (TM-2 can support 2 stereo cables). So with one left and one right you should be good. do you want to trigger both sounds at the same time? or 2 different spots. If it's two spots it will be tricky and you will really have to play with sensitivity and threshold. It's the same rules. low sensitivity and high threshold to prevent false triggers.
