    Putting this pedal on synth and vocal tracks was a great idea. I think it really shines there, though I liked the guitar sections well enough.

  • @Telorchid

    Nice video. I think I'm in agreement with all of your major points, Leon. I have one of these; definitely agree the high end, especially with Cathedra, is not great with distorted guitars. Bigsky, in my opinion, is easier to manage in that regard, although one always needs to dial back high end and decay with high gain. It's fantastic with clean sources for massive ambience. I also agree that Ultraplate is great for standard reverb sounds on many sources, and finally, that the interface is cumbersome. It's tricky remembering what the alt functions do.
    A couple of other things to note. I DO think density, of all the alt function parameters, is sort of a secret weapon for fine tuning the reverb for conventional or ambient usage. I do not think you will get the most out of the pedal without knowing that one. Modulation speed is also important, but you can turn off the modulation by turning the amount down all the way, bypassing the need for knowing that separate function if the mod is too much (this is the easiest alt control to remember, in my opinion, FWIW).
    The vibrato function at a moderate depth can be really nice on cleans and to me is essentially a chorus without adjustable speed. What makes it a vibrato when it's not affecting the dry though, it's just the wet half of the chorus?!
    Finally, it should be pointed out that the predelay range on this pedal is very small. It was done intentionally, according to the designers, to make part it the 'sound' of the Mercury7. The Bigsky predelays, on the other hand, have a relatively massive range of pre-delay times.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  3 года назад +1

      Any tips for the density control? I'll play with that some more!

    • @Telorchid
      @Telorchid 3 года назад +1

      @@LeonTodd yeah, I would just say crank it for ambient, and work down if necessary, and for dirt, the reverse - set it to minimum and then work up as needed. The more 'sustain' (not decay length, per se) you want in the verb, the more you want to increase the density.

  • @JessieThorne886
    @JessieThorne886 Год назад

    Great review, beautiful playing. I own this pedal. You can get close to copping it's sound with the Big Sky, but this can be set to very over-the-top reverbs with crazy amounts of modulation, which I dislike for guitar but love on synth. I also dislike this pedal's shimmer sound, it sounds like rusty gates opening, though you can mellow it out by adding modulation and vibrato and by turning the shimmer level down. It's great that this pedal takes both instrument- and line level signals.

    • @mrmatthew2443

      That’s funny ., good funny
      Because I like the shimmer on this verb more than any other shimmer I’ve heard .. I’ve always hated shimmer verb until. I heard this one.. and this is why it’s great that there’s lots of variation in the pedal market
      Otherwise we’d just all sound the same
