First time hearing Faithfully by Journey

  • What memories does this song bring up with you? Journey's Faithfully is such an iconic song and was part of the soundtrack of our lives. Every school dance, every high school party or just cruising with friends had this song play a large part of our collective memory. Alexis only knows one song from Journey and no surprise, it's Don't Stop Believin. As I say in the video, it's awesome and depressing that she hasn't heard it before. This was a very fun to do and there are many more to come from Journey.

This song was an actual love letter written at the time to Jonathan Cain's wife while he was out on tour with Journey for their Escape tour. Great song. I have seen Journey live in concert since the Infinity album was released.

I saw them in concert as well … went to every concert here in central Florida… rain or shine … garbage bags were our attire in the rain lol … always worked our way to the front stage stood by the big speakers on the ground… probably why I can’t hear to good as I’m 58 now lol … we definitely had the best childhood in the 70-80’s wish I could take my kids and grandkids back to simple life

Steve had his own bus. He and his girlfriend Sherrie shared that bus. She’s the girl he’s singing to on the song “ Oh Sherrie” from his 1984 solo album Street Talk. Journey band members weren’t exactly happy with the special treatment Steve received, but he was the guy that brought the band so much success. He really wasn’t even the guy that owned the band. Lead guitarist Neal Schon was one of the 2 original members that started the band. Gregg Rolie was the other one, but left the band after they released the album Departure. He was originally the lead vocalist, but the band’s first 3 albums tanked in sales. The record company told the band’s manager that if their 4th album was another flop that they were going to release them from their contract. They hired Steve Perry, even though Schon and Rolie didn’t like his singing style, to be the new lead vocalist. Rolie and Perry did do some co- lead vocalist songs, but Rolie had grown tired of touring and wanted to do his thing. At the suggestion of his replacement, he recommended Jonathan Cain become his replacement. Cain has written and co written Journey’s biggest hits.

Yes, Journey. Best arena rock band ever, and maker of better power ballads than any other band in history. You guys should react to "Stone in Love"! Neil Schon is vastly underrated!

Burch, one side note factoid about this song… sort of, is that when Prince did Purple Rain ( the actual song) after recording it, but before releasing it, he became concerned that his outro solo was too reminiscent of Neal Schonn’s Solomon Faithfully. So Prince called Schonnand explained the situation. Sent Neal a copy of it, he listened to it & said, I can see a little similarities, but you have to go release this song kid, it’s phenomenal.
    Paraphrasing the convo, obviously.
