- This classic song by Foreigner, Waiting for a girl like you is one of the most beloved tracks of the era. Alexis loves Lou Gramm's vocals as well as the music. She noticed the many layers and talent of the entire band including founding members, Mick Jones and Ian McDonald, along with Gramm. From the late 70s through the 90s, Foreigner continued to produce some of music's biggest hits and most recent their song Cold as Ice was cast as one of the soundtrack features on the hit series Stranger Things.

Dude do a video of triumph magic power
Or lay it on the line
Foreigner 4 was the start of the downward spiral, after three very good albums, Foreigner 4 was a disappointment.
I would venture myself to state, without fear, that Lou's singing is pitch perfect.
I'd also say that when he delivers in lower tones he might have an almost perfect modulation in his voice . This is really a haunting love song. It's provocative and dramatic. In this sense, I do agree with your partner, the instrumental theme for "Stranger Things" has this same atmosphere despite being musically different.
To sing and interpret this blend of 80's Rock and AOR I would list Lou and the late Brian Howe (Bad Company) as the best players in business.
Def leappard
Lou Gramm is one of the greatest voices in the entire music history. Period.
Period!!!!
Do you even simply Red ?
Loved her reaction to this classic song. Now she needs to hear "I Want to Know What Love Is"
I am thinking JukeBox Hero and then I want to know.
@@flickeringboxofficial Jukebox good tune, but not as good as - I Want To Know What Love Is especially with the people for backing vocals. I get it though you want to change up the sound. Should also do Lou solo with Midnight Blue.
What are some other good foreigner songs?
I would probably go to Hot Blooded before the next ballad to get a better comparison... just a thought...
Try this live version... Lou Gramm rocks... ruclips.net/video/8yDmeYxTeC0/видео.html
Foreigner 4 was one of the albums that everyone had to have in their collection.
Next cut should be Juke Box Hero.
I was in high school and it was summer and fall of 81 and this album huge. Everybody had to have it!
@@chrislebon5927 Graduated in '81. Remember it well.
"Juke Box Hero" is my favorite song of all time.
@@plushstitches5146 They did that song in Philly at the now gone,😥, Spectrum in the mid '80's. A huge inflatable jukebox came out of the stage.
Absolutely!
FUN FACT: Waiting For A Girl like You was actually used in Season 1 of Stranger Things! ✌️👍
Here's one Foreigner song that definitely deserves more recognition: "Blue Morning, Blue Day."
That and “Red Line.”
This song was on Stranger Things season 1 episode 3.
Foreigner, Journey, Styx 3 great 80's bands with outstanding music
Urgent is my favorite from Foreigner. Lou is the shit
Thanks for playing. I've known Lou for 20 years. Amazing singer to this day. Much appreciated..
He is tops for me Paul. If it ever comes up with him, you could put in a good word for an interview 😂😀
@@flickeringboxofficial I can arrange that
@@flickeringboxofficial That would be Awesome! Maybe 30k mark for that?
Ok, that would be awesome as hell Paul and I would owe you a dinner my friend.
Gotta make it happen bro I love lou. I may only be 25 but he's been my favorite since I got my first handheld CD player when I was 13
Foreigner 4 was iconic. The album art grabs you right from jump. Anyone who's ever seen the old-school lead-in countdown from the physical film projectors of yesteryear immediately recognizes it. The sound was unprecedented at the time. It was released near the dawn of the CD player's popularity, though most still listened on vinyl or cassette tape. But the production values and the arrangements were ground breaking for their time. Foreigner 4 was a wall of audio stimulation that moved and inspired our imaginations and made our heads explode with auditory delight. We dreamt of being the Jukebox Hero. We felt the urgency of "Urgent" and that amazing rubber band delay effect on the opening guitar riff and the soul bending sax solo. This album solidified Foreigner as a Rock and Roll royalty and placed the "no doubt" stamp on their careers, affirming all of the great work they had released on previous projects. It was like, 1977, great debut self-titled album, you're on the map. But can you do it again? Then with 1978's Double Vision, the 2nd and 1979's Head Games, their 3rd releases, the answer was a resounding, "Hell yes we can!" And 1981's 4 was like, that line from Remember the Titans when coach said, "Run it up. Leave no doubt. Make sure they remember [the name Foreigner]. Can't wait 'til you guys return for some more Foreigner.
This is one of those songs where if it's on the radio in the car, you've reached your destination, but you will sit and listen to it finish before exiting.
Lou Gramm killing the vocals 🔥 this song is a forever vibe
You know it Jennifer
That intro is like a time capsule back to the 80s it makes u feel nostalgic even if you weren’t around yet
Love this one... and "I want to know what love is"... Such a masterpiece!! 😍
It's mediocre at best, can't even come close to their first three albums.
@@brenthenderson3983 Thanks for your view of things - I am sorry you don´t feel the same, but happy you still have the older stuff to thrive on.
I Want to Know What Love Is is a bit clichéd in all the worst ways but still catchy as eff. Shouldn't be good but it is.
Yes, the band Foreigner was used in Stranger Things. The song "Waiting for a Girl Like You" was featured in Season 1, Episode 3. It was playing in the background when Jonathan and Nancy were investigating the Byers' house.
The song was a hit in the 1980s, and it fits well with the setting of Stranger Things. It's a catchy song that helps to create a sense of nostalgia for the era.
~BARD A.I.
Had to look it up before seeing this comment. Found it was season 3 but thank you for sharing scene.
This is one of my favorite songs of theirs. They have a bunch of great songs. I love Lou’s voice too. Great singer.
“Grab that special girl or that special guy, it’s time for the couples skate” you nailed it, songs like this helped us guys out!
I’m 63 so I remember a time when Foreigner came on the radio every time I turned around. My favorite Foreigner song was I Want to Know What Love Is. The video is great too.
It's totally ridiculous that foreigner is not in the rock and roll hall of fame! They have so many great hits. The rock and roll hall of fame should be ashamed of themselves.
Finally, this year, they are in the RRHF! Long overdue.
Foreigner 4 was the first 8-track I bought in my first car...memories..
Ahh 😌 this brings back memories from my youth back in the 80’s… 🫶🏾
School dances and trying to tape songs off the radio....
What I remember the most about this song is how it spent 10 weeks at #2 in the USA. It just couldn't knock off "Physical" by Olivia Newton-John (10 weeks at #1, #1 song of the 80's). When Physical finally dropped, Hall & Oates jumped up to #1, and that was when Foreigner spent their 10th week at #2.
I'm 50( ish )and as I watch all of these reaction videos of songs I grew up with it hits home how much amazing music came out of the 70's & 80's. I would submit that a lot of music from this generation completely obliterates pretty much anything from the last 20 years.
100%! I'd say that the 70s has the edge over the 80s because the instruments were real and not electronic, just a richness of sound with so many textures and layers, but this stuff up until about 2000 is the best music of our lifetimes.
Nobody rocked like Foreigner back in the 70's or 80's.Lou Gramm just had that that voice!
When I was a teenager, I would listen to this music in the dark lying in my bed, with my walkman... Ah the 80s so many memories
Burch I am so glad that the two of you did this song. What a fantastic song to show a young lady of today. This song is nothing but total class. When this song came out, I was in seventh grade at a school dance. I’ll never forget it…. Great song choice buddy.
The ultimate teen slow dance song! My teen years were awesome! Great song!
Foreigner...another of those classic rock bands, that I feel so blessed to have grown up with. While I may be past my prime now, I wouldn't trade experiencing those those years for nothing. Juke Box Hero is probably my favorite Foreigner song(you need to do that one at some point). Don't know what it is, but the intro to JBH just gets me every time!
These keyboard bands, I call it "Piano Rock". Journey, Styx, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon. Sorry Def Leppard, you're not a member! 👎
Perfect love song for the winter nights.
Fun Fact: The synthesizers on this album were mostly played by Thomas Dolby ("She Blinded Me With Science," "Hyperactive," "Europa and the Pirate Twins," etc.)
yep,,,,linear notes says synth textures by thomas dolby
Lou Gramm has an incredible voice.
This was the best time for great bands and great songs
Number 1 school slow dance song for every high school and jr. high school through the 70's and 80's!
love this song I still remember who I danced with 42 yrs later brings me back to that 7th grade prom
EVERY time I hear this- it's the Fall of '81, I'm at the local pizza joint after dinner, seeing friends. Cold Fall/Winter that year. This song brings it all back so vividly.... Still love it.
A good band that wrote good songs. So many good songs. I have a Foreigner playlist that is filled with bangers!
Lou Gramm is not only the Voice it's his whole Being in every song he sings
One of a number of groups where Mutt Lange produced their biggest selling work. He did it for these guys on this album, The Cars, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Bryan Adams, Shania Twain, etc.
I think this is one of the best produced song in the rock era. The layers of sound are incredible.
Remember this band listening to them on 8 tracks
As others may have mentioned, Thomas Dolby played the keyboards on this track. Also, the Stranger Things vibe makes sense. The 2 main composers from Stranger Things are part of an electronic band called Survive (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survive_(band)). They're big fans of 80's era analog synthesizers.
I am in my upper 50's. I never thought I would get to the age where there would be a younger gal that has not heard this tune before, as it is so epic. Damn, I got old....
Watch Dio reaction when she says "Black Sabbath, is that another band?" Ouch 😁 Alexis is so awesome and it is so cool watching her find these awesome musicians and singers.
@@flickeringboxofficial Oh that is hilarious on the Black Sabbath! I will head over and check out the Dio video reaction! Props to Alexis for having the time and interest to check out this music that is now 40 years old.... Great channel!
As good as Lou Gramm is, I still always felt his voice was underrated.
By whom?
Back in the 70's and 80's we didn't have alt rock. It was just rock. The good old days
I’d like to dedicate this song to every young man in America so they can sing it to their young ladies.
"she gets it". Yes, she does. Great reaction.
Yes, bro! Lou Gramm is one of the best voices ever. Massive Foreigner fan here.
This song was a rock staple. I would say still is in many cases. This is the song that everyone waited to slow dance too. The time at the dance if you didn't have a girl you were in the parking lot, because you were to depressed to be in there and listen. Open Arms feel but different, more manly in a way. Like Alexis said, like carmel, voice and song so smooth.
For the next one let Alexis hear "Juke Box Hero" Love that song.
I do think that one will be the next one Glen.
I always remember this song from the 80’s movie Footloose.
Just do it!!! 🤣🤣 Let it out girl! And Here Without You is an AMAZING song!
I played that album to death , a true gem back in the 80s ,hairbrush in the mirror time lol .
Fantastic Foreigner showing their romantic side! Thanks for your reaction.
I think 'Head Games' is the first Foreigner song I remember hearing.. in the back of my parents' 74 Impala when I was 3 😎
Buried deep in the super lost foreigner archives... is in my humble opinion, their second greatest ballad... "All I am" - Please Spin this Incredible ballad.. which has mind blowing lyrics!
Yep this song is in the first season of stranger things, then i hear this song for a first time, thanks stranger things, this song is very Good, nothing like 80's, the Best music is in this time 😊
I've been waiting AND praying for a girl.....LIKE ALEXIS !!!!!!!!!!
The First Four Foreigner Albums 💯💢❤🤍
Foreigner is my all-time favorite band and I've been a diehard fan from the moment I first heard their self-titled debut album which was released towards the end(March '77) of my junior year of high school. 4 was a great ,iconic album and their most successful release commercially but their debut album will forever be my favorite as I have always considered it to be an instant classic. I've been fortunate enough to meet and briefly talk to Mick and Lou a handful of times over the years and I had them autograph my debut and 4 album covers which are now framed and hanging in my garage. Never in a million years did I ever envision myself getting to know them a little bit when I first saw them in concert from my nosebleed seats at the Spectrum in Philly in '82 during their 4 tour. It was on a Sunday which was the final night of three-straight sold-out shows at the iconic Spectrum which is sadly gone now. Billy Squirer opened for them. I've seen them over 30 times in concert at this point and I'm waiting to see them FINALLY be inducted into the so-called RRHOF. It's looooong overdue.
I love how you described the band in the beginning.
The bass player was just killing it! REALLY good!
One of my favorites 😢💓🤘✌️
This song WAS in fact used in the season 2 finale of Stranger Things at the Jr prom. Big nostalgia moment 😂
This is one of the most difficult songs to sing. I've never heard anybody absolutely nail it in Lou's range.
Jukebox hero feels like the first time cold as ice hot blooded dounle vision i could go on forever
Soon as you said im happy were doing Foreigner i was like heck yeah brother im only 33 but i love some foreigner great band classic
this was our wedding song i danced with my wife back 34 years ago. i love Lou's voice as well. please do some of Lou's songs from his solo albums.
Lou was even better live as well !!!...so good!!!
Four is such a Great album, They had hits on every album
The sound she's thinking of is that 80's keyboard/synthesizer that we all enjoyed from bands like Foreigner, Journey, Toto, Tears For Fears, etc....
Lou is from my area of NY. Met him a couple times, and found out his song red line is partially about my uncle. Very nice guy imo.
Lou is a Rochester boy. Was in a local group called Black Sheep before he made it big.
This song is a favorite of mine. I had this song in my head on a walk one night in the fall of 1981. Mick's keyboard is hypnotic to me in this song.
Love your videos I'm 57 you are bringing the younger generation into 80s rock and I like how they like it thank you
Your Channel is awesome, keep up the great work 👏🏻👏🏻
God we had great Music.
Speaking of Lou Gramm's voice... my personal favorite vocal performance of his, is "Break It Up." He doesn't really have a low register, but he can belt out the high notes like few men man.
He's not underrated, but I feel like he's really underappreciated.
Foreigner just flat out rocked, when they needed to, but wrote and recorded some outstanding ballads.
To be fair, he was castrated as a boy so he has an easier time hitting high notes.
She needs to hear urgent!! Love seeing the making of a new fan. Great group
One of the albums I'm sure everyone picked on their Columbia House 12 Casettes for a Penny.
Burch, Great to see you again, keep this going.
Hey Marc, been a long time. Hope everything is going well. Have to catch up soon
You both are awesome as always.
Great reaction❤
Thank you so much 😁
Believe this song came out in 1981. Met my wife in 82 and dedicated this song to her. We re still married. Foreigner was great as this song demonstrates.
I never knew how much Kelly Hansen sounds like Lou until he took over on vocals. But Lou, well, he's still the best Foreigner singer ever.
Lou Graham and Steve Perry are the best to ever do it ,,Hands Down ❤
Lou Gramm is incredible. Amazing voice and amazing human being.
I'm SO GLAD that they're finally being inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame this year! ABOUT TIME! 💯💯💯💯
Great reaction !
God Bless!
Stranger things season 1 episode 3 waiting for a girl like you. Good memory Alexis!
The harmonies on this are to die for. Very sophisitacted arrangement.
Yes! More Foreigner! So many great songs! “Juke Box Hero” has to be the next one
This song and many from the late 70s used the Korg Poly 800 synth. I had 2 but sold them during hard times. I miss them. I am primarily a guitar player and now I have many other keys too. Poly 800s were the first easy to use synths.
Between that and the gated drum reverb...80s all the way :)
One of the best all time bands.
Foreigner is a big rabbit hole to go down
Throw a dart and hit a great song ... can't miss.
Ok now introduce her to JukeBox Hero.
Agreed
There's 30 other foreigner songs better than juke box hero
Girl on the Moon, please
@@kenkonwick6660 fair, but you have to start somewhere
@@tkmoore6057 Well I'd say if you have to start somewhere start at the very beginning on Foreigner's debut album & opening track that introduced us to the band which was also Foreigner's first hit tune. "Feels Like The First Time." Just saying... +++Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Souls+++
I love her hearing the great voices! Another of my faves is Steve Walsh of Kansas. His top form vocal for me is Can't Cry Anymore from the Power album. I think she'd really enjoy his voice.
I fully admit that I was won over by my SO when he serenaded me with this one.
AHHhhhhh... "Waiting For A Girl Like You" by Foreigner. Kinda brings me back to my childhood... too young to approach girls, too utterly busy drawing & sketching (I wanted to be a Architect). I switched careers, now I'm a Police Officer, assigned to Forensics, as a Fingerprint Examiner & CSI. That being said, Foreigner was a outlet for many guys, who wanted a Different style of Classic Rock (that girls could listen to, & rock with). Oh yeah... that Bass & Synthesizer holding down the rhythm section... the steady drum beat, & VOCALS... YEAH... They certainly don't do MUSIC LIKE THIS anymore. So, THANK YOU for doin' THIS PARTICULAR TRACK....by the way, I subscribed. Keep doin' YOU. Peace, Love, & Liberty.
My favorite Foreigner tune. Love it ! Next one oughta be "Urgent"!!! Also, Bad Company's "Holy Water" is another gem with Brian Howe on vocals. Great song all around.
I walked my wife down the isle to this song as a surprise rather than here comes the bride...everyone was crying..❤
Awesome. I walked down the aisle to Someone Like You by Van Morrison. But this song would’ve been excellent too❤
