Hey Mike, I'm a Butcher. Go to your local butchers. Proper frying steak usually comes from the salmon cut of Silverside sliced thinly and sometimes beaten out flat or Beef Knuckle medalion. Again cut thin and often flattened. Some also call it 'minute steak'
The thin frying steaks you're thinking of, are called Steak Canadians (i think) You can still find them in a shop similar to Farmfoods, called Heron Foods. They're amazing with fried onions and cheese 🤤👍
Mike you could do a week on Jack Monroe's Tin Can Cook recipes! Will take a bit of planning but could be surprising to see what delicious food you can make with mainly tinned ingredients!
A WEEK ON MEAL DEALS Most shops got you covered for lunch. And dinner could be the old set meal for 2 at a supermarket of your choosing. Just gotta figure something out for breakfast.
(Listening out for Basil in the intro) Basil:...Meow! Me: Oop, there he goes XD Mike: And time to give this cat an absolute kicking for ruining my shot >:( Basil:...Meow... o_o ('Ooh, shite...')
LOL I love how you test the foods most of us look at but stop and think 'hmm maybe not' but thank you so much for testing the things manufacturers should be ashamed of
Them sub steaks I have them often they are really nice and the ones you are thinking of from back in the day were called minute steaks or Canadian steaks , these are the closest thing I've found to them but I'm sure they were all beef back in the day these are beef and pork but still nice. PS after watching all the way through you didny cook the steaks anywhere near enough , you have to use a bit of oil and they go a bit brown and crispy round the edges , pre heat the pan they have to be flash fried.
I think I used to get them steaks as well but they were called Sandwich Steaks. Really off putting brown color, about 2mm thick and packed separated by paper. We used to microwave them and they were awesome.
My entire being is shrivelling up watching you do this to yourself. O_o It's even worse when you realise that some people only have enough money to spend on this trash. STAY WELL, MIKE!
Try the butcher’s if you want decent frying steak. Also, I love curly fries, especially with loads of vinegar or salad cream! They are too easy to over cook though. As for cheese, I seem to remember there being Farmfoods own brand.
I actually love those sandwich steaks on a piece of toast and some burger sauce, although they were better in the 90s, gotta go to a butchers for the real deal.
900W is powerful here, most microwaves are 800W, budget microwaves are 700. The most powerful ones here are 1000W. The rated wattage is actually just the cooking wattage, they all draw 30-50% more to power the light, fan, display, circuitry, magnetron losses. my 800W unit actually draws 1300Wish
@Henry Byrd Huh. That surprises me. I'm not a native English speaker, so I wouldn't know, but I don't remember ever coming across the word "fayre" before. My best guess was "fare" which can mean food (the context helped). Is that really such a common word? Or do you have secret Welsh ancestry that nobody told you about? (Just kidding. 😋)
Do you just mean “minute steaks”? Actual steaks of bees just very thin that take a minute to fry? Any butches will sell them...if you mean reformed grill steak type things, Iceland is your best bet...
Comment 200:Please DON'T ever say the words 'SEX MAGAZINE' ever again. The photo on the left, what is your hand out of shot doing? Holding a hamburger, silly!!😁👍😎👏😅
And more expensive - $15 a box locally here. Most people dont really know they can buy beef roast (typically chuck or top round) and just have the store slice it super thin for you for less money and better product.
Hey Mike Morrison's sell those frying steaks , called beef grill steaks not sure if thats what you want. groceries.morrisons.com/webshop/product/Morrisons-4-Beef-Grill-Steaks/273117011 I tried them they're alright. Also If you go Morrison and look in the fresh meat section you can find fresh one there too. Sizzling steaks or sandwich steaks they are called . They are nice and go great in subs. They are kinda cheap aswell
Henry Byrd pleased to meet you, meat to please you.
Henry Byrd have you replied to yourself?
I know they're bad for you but I really love curly fries, the seasoning they put on them is delicious.
The thin frying steaks you're thinking of, are called Steak Canadians (i think) You can still find them in a shop similar to Farmfoods, called Heron Foods. They're amazing with fried onions and cheese 🤤👍
I think there also called minute steaks, cause they literally took 1 minute to cook in a frying pan
That steak looks more like kebab meat than the kebab meat did
I love your videos so much! It takes a special kind of funny to sustain a week of eating terrible food.
You could have done a smoothie with your frozen berries
Yup, thats why the banana is in there
Week on Just Eat
Isn’t that just week on takeaway?
A week on just eat?
I've been on just eat for about 3 years now 🇬🇧
Mike you could do a week on Jack Monroe's Tin Can Cook recipes! Will take a bit of planning but could be surprising to see what delicious food you can make with mainly tinned ingredients!
A WEEK ON MEAL DEALS

(Listening out for Basil in the intro)
Basil:...Meow!
Me: Oop, there he goes XD
Mike: And time to give this cat an absolute kicking for ruining my shot >:(
Basil:...Meow... o_o ('Ooh, shite...')
Me and everyone watching: Touch Basil and we’ll give you a kicking, Every shot is improved by Basil!
😂
LOL I love how you test the foods most of us look at but stop and think 'hmm maybe not' but thank you so much for testing the things manufacturers should be ashamed of
Prefer Heron myself. For anyone that doesn't know, Heron is a frozen food retailer that falls in between Iceland Foods and Farmfoods
@Henry Byrd lol
I totally misread Heron for Heroin at first.....
beef connective tissue yum yum
Henry Byrd beef tissue 😂🤮
How about a week on British produce 🇬🇧🤟🍺🥩🐑🐓🥕🐄🥃☘️🍏🇬🇧
This^
that's just normal foods, we have plenty of farms in the UK, for both animals, fruit and vegetables
#brexit
So the majority of stuff you find in a supermarket?
1:46 Next up, A Week on Sex Magazines (edited for more accurate time stamp)
Day 5... I'm extremely, extremely hungry. Yet strangely satisfied.
Steak Canadian! used to be able to buy them in Fultons ( well known Yorkshire freezer shop) havent seen them in years, bloody delicious!
You should do a week on Aldi and as usual basil stole the show
Aldi is evil. That poor Tesco CEO having his salary cut to £50million a day because of that invasive species.
How did you even think that piece of meat thing was going to be good when frying it?! It looked fucking rank!
Growing a beard has transformed you in a level 99 Brit
I thought Findus was no more, I haven't seen any of their products for years!!
I remember something called ‘Morning steaks’ which I used to do for my husband in the 90’s
where can you buy findus meals?
please try and do a week on Eddie Hall's diet. Love you Jevo :)
I got an advert for Gordon Ramsay before this video and instantly thought Mike had upped his Knife Skills!
I got the exact same Gordon Ramsay Masterclass advert lol. 😂
I used to work for farmfoods and some of the food is good
Some 😂
Josh Smith well it’s the same for every supermarket, some of the food is good, I don’t like everything...
Digging the beard you handsome scoundrel you!
Poor Mike going through the ringer just for us 😂
Do Steak-Emms just not exist in England? What Mike described is exactly that, which I have regularly here in the states.
except they are more like the ones he remembered not at all like those gross ones he had
I’d love to try a pizza pocket. An American staple I hear.
Never had that express sub version, but there is a thin meat sheet called steak'em that tastes pretty great.
I buy frozen fruit with bananas for making smoothies. Just an idea!
I was thinking the same thing, they not make a smoothie, Farmfoods must sell milk
Try the butcher’s if you want decent frying steak. Also, I love curly fries, especially with loads of vinegar or salad cream! They are too easy to over cook though. As for cheese, I seem to remember there being Farmfoods own brand.
they are called steak canadians oblong shape very thin meat slices u can still get them
New subscriber here, loving watching these videos , reminds me of the kind of food I lived on when I first moved out 😂
Beef connective tissue,yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum
You should have put the cheese on top of the meat while it was halfway through in the pan, so it would have melted a little.
Have a butcher thinly slice up some sirloin for a steak sandwich.
I actually love those sandwich steaks on a piece of toast and some burger sauce, although they were better in the 90s, gotta go to a butchers for the real deal.
Absolutely loved steak Canadians as a kid, would never touch them now but love the nostalgia of those saturday afternoon lunches.
You had steak-umms and got pissed about it. LOL
A 900 W microwave sounds pretty anemic. 1200 is common here.
Lmao meat costs like a quid and he says it tastes so cheap...
Canadian sandwich steaks, some supermarkets have them in the freezer x
With additional water? #Yummy OMG 2 minutes later...... Connective tissue!
You can get sandwich stake( thin stake) from tesco
Paul Hollywood would not approve of those pizza pockets.
0:38 what a perfect timing. He's such a vip
Most supermarkets do quick fry/sandwich steaks!
Failing that, buy a skirt steak or a rump steak and beat it out thin
You can get frying steaks in Waitrose in the fresh section, you were brave trying that haha
salt doesn't hurt your liver...it's the kidneys.
Can't you do a week on aldi's food
I trust no man who fails to get excited by curly fries.
Do a week on traditional Welsh fayre
What does that mean? Food?
@@KatKaleen yep
@@simonmorgan9646 That's cool.
EDIT: Do you have links to videos in Welsh or do you know books for learning Welsh?
@@KatKaleen hi Welsh is quite hard to learn, but go for it 👍 you would be better going to a class rather then from a book
Pizza pockets are mutts nuttttttsssssss!
Can you do meals if the week
Hmmm, ascorbic and citric acid. Always something you want in your frozen fruit. No wonder it was so sour!

Osian I it’s farmfoods for a week so aye it’s gonna have a part 2 fs
this must be the most depressing week on ever
@Henry Byrd yeah true tbf. that is why i said most depressing
Ahh Farmfoods... the place where you buy everything in frozen packets of 50 or more.
Farmfoods is what it is good for those on a tight budget but obviously nothing they sell will be a taste sensation
M&S to the frying steak :) - but it's not always in stock.
I had a pizza pocket that tasted like the wax room smelt at a duck factory I used to work at. Fuck that shit!
“Connective Tissue”. My fucking christ!
They are called minute steaks and you can get them from most supermarkets. Good god that dinner looked shite

Comment 200:Please DON'T ever say the words 'SEX MAGAZINE' ever again. The photo on the left, what is your hand out of shot doing? Holding a hamburger, silly!!😁👍😎👏😅
Beef Connective Tissue - delicious
In America we have "steakums" same thing, but definitely a better quality.
I was hoping someone would have mentioned those :-)
And more expensive - $15 a box locally here. Most people dont really know they can buy beef roast (typically chuck or top round) and just have the store slice it super thin for you for less money and better product.
And Heron foods x
Why do you keep thinking these will be good without adding your won ingredients, sauces etc
Extremely underrated
Henry Byrd quiet
Henry Byrd Bro idk if ur joking rn or what but your being weird
Henry Byrd I also like pie
Henry Byrd are you a subscriber or a hater?
Henry Byrd the name Henry is associated with power but from what I am reading it seems that I am the alpha in this conversation
not only is it gross its also expensive 8£ for one day i can bake my Owen bread and cook dinner from fresh food for less wtf
The curly fries are £1.59 not £2
Think i've gotten too used to living opposite a farmfoods. Dulled the senses, i generally enjoy the typical absolute trash they sell!
I live next to one too, but never braved anything other than the cheap deals on pop 😂
If u want good steak thats that style its called steak ems they r delicious
I'm surprised they are labeled as "curly FRIES". Shouldn't they be "curly CHIPS" in England?
Thin chips are fries, chips are thicker cut ☺️
Canadian steaks you cant get them anymore. Not the original ones
Hey Mike
Morrison's sell those frying steaks , called beef grill steaks not sure if thats what you want.
groceries.morrisons.com/webshop/product/Morrisons-4-Beef-Grill-Steaks/273117011
I tried them they're alright. Also If you go Morrison and look in the fresh meat section you can find fresh one there too. Sizzling steaks or sandwich steaks they are called . They are nice and go great in subs. They are kinda cheap aswell
