You must do a few things differently in the states I see a few things that could be problematic in your delivery... connect to ground first then trailer.….vapor recovery? Opening internal valve after you open faucet handle to check if internals are functioning correctly...and switch diesel to super ground first then trailer
Thank you for a great video, one thing I was wondering is , I don't know where you are or what the laws are there , but when I hauled fuel back in the 80s we always had to have our fire extinguisher sitting out
I feel like u should use one specific hose for each gas. Because when u use the same hose that different a gas was just flowing through, that gas is going inside a different gas tank and might get contaminated, thats why I think that big crack is in the ground and gases are slowly leaking out
No the Crack is from heavy tankers over the years pulling in to unload... if you had 7,500 gallons of gas and 1 gallon of diesel in a hose do you think that 1 gallon will contaminate it?? I don't think so... when that product finishes there probly ain't a 20 bottle of whatever I just got done unloading that is in the hose... if that... there's no way it is getting contaminated
Really interesting video and I’m intrigued by all of this. I’m 2 years out from retirement of my military service and just trying to get ideas for my next career. Obviously you are seasoned, but my only critique for you new fuel haulers is that until you get very comfortable I would ALWAYS put my product hose on my fitting before hooking it up to a trailer compartment & same rule applies when he switches from diesel to premium. The diesel compartment is now empty so remove the ground fitting & place it on the premium drop then switch the from the diesel compartment to premium on the trailer. If you’ve been doing this awhile we all know it takes on phone call, one pedestrian, or one brain fart to cross drop a product into the wrong tank. It’s just an extra step of caution so you can prevent either a call to hazmat relief or your dispatchers. Cheers 🍻
I understand what you are saying but what difference does it make if you hook the hose on the drop first then on the trailer? Why is that so important to do so.. just because maybe you would open the valve before hooking it on the drop? That's why you always double-check before you open the valve.. you can easily cross drop by simply putting the drop on the tank first, then hooking it up to the wrong compartment on the trailer.. that's why you ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK... so it doesn't really matter if you hook up to the trailer first or ground first. Just DOUBLE CHECK BEFORE YOU OPEN VALVE..
@@Life-On-18-Wheels I’d say the difference is you’re looking at it from a seasoned fuel hauler perspective. When I train guys I just want them to work in a way that can prevent spills & cross drops. Think about when you were new to fuel & how much you really have to think about & how much responsibility it actually is once you get to throwing those hoses. I’ve seen a lot of my trainee’s get wet because they moved the hose from compartment to compartment without shutting off a valve & that’s minor, but you just hope from a trainer’s perspective that you’re giving your trainee’s the tools to be successful & not have to deal with the headaches of the job. Veteran guys have been there done that so don’t you want to pay it forward so new guys don’t have to go through the same mistakes we did? It’s just an extra precaution is all. To each their own.. like I said I’m not saying what you’re doing is wrong by any means! There’s a bunch of different ways to haul gas.. but if what I said makes sense to somebody & makes them more comfortable down the line then it was my pleasure. Again brother I think what you’re doing is great! All productive conversation here & no malicious intent sir 🤝🏼
I really can't make a video of how we load the trailers due to no camera equipment in the racks but I do have one rack we go into that might let me do it but u haven't asked yet... if I am hauling fuel I am pretty much home but I usually stay gone all week hauling oil across the lower 48
Brother, I know you don't want here this but its a good idea to hook your hose up to your fittings first and then your truck valves, it could save yourself from uneccessary spill! Cones first, bucket second always! Some States don't require you have Vapor hose but the fact is Vapor is the most Dangerous aspect of the job! Do yourself a favor watch a couple Safety videos on Vapor accidents, its Not pretty!
It all depends usually we just load for 1 store in a load sometimes we do a split load... usually 2 stops... and usually do 3 loads of gas a day sometimes 4 if we are busy...
Ahh we got about 6 fuel terminals that I go to in louisiana... they are in Opelousas.... port Allen.... sulphur.... alexandria.... Shreveport and bossier city... so we don't really have a base terminal... we just go to wherever our customers want us to pull loads out of
We only hook up vapor recovery if we are in the bigger cities Baton Rouge, New Orleans ETC.. when we are in rural areas it is not required to hook it up.. thanks for the question
Is your trailer a double bulkhead? We were never aloud to haul gas and fuel oil on the same trailer unless it had a double bulkhead in case one pot leaked into the next. And always had to use the vapor recovery here in the north east
Law in louisiana is in rural areas no vapor recovery is required... only metropolitan areas we have to recover the vapors.... not quite sure what you mean by vapor dust cover... I have my vent dust cover on trailer off so the trailer can vent properly...
I just discovered your channel, I have a question, is 89 octane gasoline a mixture of 87 and 93 made inside the gas station? Is this true or does it depend on the brand of fuel? Thanks.
Yes sir the pumps actually mix it themselves nowadays... if you see a pump that has mid 89 oct then the pump is a little bit older then the newer ones.. doesn't depend on brand all it depends on is how new the pumps are... but yes it does mix it at the pump.. now with that being said there are still stores where we have to mix it in the trailer when we are loading it where we load so much 87 and then load 93 on it to mix at the rack...
Great video! Thank you for the detail. Two questions: 1. Do your hands eventually smell like fuel, even with using the rubber gloves? 2. Is there any long-term respiratory/inhalation danger with this daily line of work?
After you were the same gloves Ober and over they eventually start cracking and yes then you hands can start getting dirty and smelly but if you have extra gloves and keep them swapped out before they do start cracking then you want smell like it... And I have never heard of anyone having respiratory problems but that's not me saying it couldn't happen...
I just recently got my hazmat/tankers. I’m kinda skeptical on starting because how dangerous the job is.. what are the chances of the truck rolling over? How dangerous is this job?
Your looking for your ullage hes got a mixed bag of products ulsd 93 87 the print off will tell you what fit in each tank stick reading is the before and after inch readings
How were you dropping diesel at the same time as no lead? When dropping ulsd you need to vent the vapor recovery ports to vent the trailer if you are dropping gasoline at the same time you would be releasing vapors into the air which is dangerous, but mainly because states have laws that require you to have a vapor recovery present for gasoline products. Do you live in a state where that is allowed?
In louisiana we do not need to recover vapors in rural areas but in the big metropolitan areas we do... even if I did need to recover the vapors we can unload 2 or 3 products at a time if we had the equipment to....
Question. Aren't you supposed to hook up the buck Rodgers to the no led and hook up the vapor hose? shouldnt you stick after hooking up the vapor to get better readings
I am just curious, and know nothing about this trade, but I believe I have seen other use a grounding cable between the trailer and the tank system. And shouldn't there also be a vapor recovery system or hose? Or is it depending on the tank in the ground?
In louisiana we don't have to hook up vapor recovery in rural areas.. only in the big metropolitan areas.. now the ground cable.. I have never seen anyone hook anything like that up.. they may do it in different states or countries but I have never seen it done around here
No a v bottom trailer is better.. it drains better... this trailer I was using that day wasn't mine due to mine being in the shop... but my trailer I pull is a tapered trailer

Mike,I have a question does the driver ever have to climb on top of the tanker trailer? Thank you and be safe out there sir.
Yes sir do it sometimes to check trailer before oil to make sure trialer is clean....
Will you be making a video of how your fuel is loaded into the tanker? Are you home everyday or are you over the road?
I know what you are saying but hear me out if the store does not have vapor recovery then how are you supposed ti recover vapors??
Yeah I said the same thing with the hose hookup. Also I would add not to take all the dust covers off because you could cross spill
God bless you
God bless you as well thank-you
Thanks for the video. How many customer loads fit in the tanker and how many trips on average do you go back to the terminal daily? Thx!
It all depends usually we just load for 1 store in a load sometimes we do a split load... usually 2 stops... and usually do 3 loads of gas a day sometimes 4 if we are busy...
@@Life-On-18-Wheels thanku! Just curious where is your base Terminal?
Ahh we got about 6 fuel terminals that I go to in louisiana... they are in Opelousas.... port Allen.... sulphur.... alexandria.... Shreveport and bossier city... so we don't really have a base terminal... we just go to wherever our customers want us to pull loads out of
How come u don't have no vapor hose hooked up when dropping the regular? Just curious cause im in orlando Florida 17 years Fuel hauling
We only hook up vapor recovery if we are in the bigger cities Baton Rouge, New Orleans ETC.. when we are in rural areas it is not required to hook it up.. thanks for the question
Do you go back to your main hub after and refill your trailer?
Also if you are not hooking up vapor recovery you don't need to lift up the trailer break
Like I said it is just habit... over 8 years doing it over and over it is just automatic to do it
Its the law you didn't hook up no vapor recovery
Very good ur fast.
Easiest job I ever had so easy I did it for 27 years

Oh ok I come threw there every once in a while
Is your trailer a double bulkhead? We were never aloud to haul gas and fuel oil on the same trailer unless it had a double bulkhead in case one pot leaked into the next. And always had to use the vapor recovery here in the north east
Yes all of our trailers are double bulkheads between each compartment...
That was my keen eye for detail! Lol
@@papajoegarage8008 10-4
You don’t run a vapor line for your super and no lead? I noticed you have the vapor dust cover off. Does it essentially do the same thing?
@@Life-On-18-Wheels Okay, thanks for showing how transportation and fuel management works, I've always wanted to know how it's really done.
I’m starting in August waiting for my TSA to get clear. I’m pumped looks fun.
Awesome man...
What was the last thing you did in the box next to the cones? Thank you.
If it is when you heard the air then it was closing the internal belly valves on the trailer...
It’s ok to use the same hose for diesel and gas? Shouldn’t there be a specific one for each?
Yes there is only residue from the last product In the hoses so it won't be much to contaminate...
Are the tanks pressurized to help unload faster or is it all gravity dump
Just gravity dump
Does ur stick automatically reads for u or u do that
Should always hook up to the ground first before hooking up to compartments. Prevents accidentally pulling the lever & a big spill. Great vid tho.
I get that alot but I that's also why you should double check before you open the valve
Great video! Thank you for the detail. Two questions:
It's very dangerous job I have a friend does that there's lots of rules u have to fellow.
Can you explain what the numbers mean on that print out, the measurements on the stick, and the paperwork you turn in after the drop in detail?
I will make a RUclips short on that subject. Be looking for that this week
Your looking for your ullage hes got a mixed bag of products ulsd 93 87 the print off will tell you what fit in each tank stick reading is the before and after inch readings
How many trips a day yu do?
How were you dropping diesel at the same time as no lead? When dropping ulsd you need to vent the vapor recovery ports to vent the trailer if you are dropping gasoline at the same time you would be releasing vapors into the air which is dangerous, but mainly because states have laws that require you to have a vapor recovery present for gasoline products. Do you live in a state where that is allowed?
In louisiana we do not need to recover vapors in rural areas but in the big metropolitan areas we do... even if I did need to recover the vapors we can unload 2 or 3 products at a time if we had the equipment to....
@@Life-On-18-Wheels got it thanks
How many hours and days do you work a week? Do you get weekends off? How many vacation days does your company give you
Before You Stick the tank supposed to hook up the vapor recovery
This store doesn't require vapor recovery
Question. Aren't you supposed to hook up the buck Rodgers to the no led and hook up the vapor hose? shouldnt you stick after hooking up the vapor to get better readings
once again in Louisiana, if you are in a rural area, you do not have to hook up vapor recovery in the big Metropolitan areas.
@@Life-On-18-Wheels ok gotcha. We gotta do it up here in Texas. So just wondering. I probably missed your explanation.

I am just curious, and know nothing about this trade, but I believe I have seen other use a grounding cable between the trailer and the tank system. And shouldn't there also be a vapor recovery system or hose? Or is it depending on the tank in the ground?
Read other comments on this.. I have answered this numerous times
@@Life-On-18-Wheels Thank you. Just curious on the differences between locations and different setups. 😀
In louisiana we don't have to hook up vapor recovery in rural areas.. only in the big metropolitan areas.. now the ground cable.. I have never seen anyone hook anything like that up.. they may do it in different states or countries but I have never seen it done around here
Why use pump hoses to drop? Hey I get it but a video proof of no vapor recovery?
The hoses we use is what the boss buys for us to use... that ain't got nothing to do with me... and not quite sure what you mean by second statement
How did u vent it
Hi, I was wondering why u didn't use a vapor recovery hose. I just started hauling fuel.
In louisiana w edont have to have vapor recovery for rural areas... but we have to in metropolitan areas... this was a rural area
@@Life-On-18-Wheels 10-4
I enjoyed seeing the process! is a flatbottom trailer better than a V-bottom? or is that just what the company gave you?
No a v bottom trailer is better.. it drains better... this trailer I was using that day wasn't mine due to mine being in the shop... but my trailer I pull is a tapered trailer
@@Life-On-18-Wheels ok good to know. I start CDL school in a few days. I’m learning, thanks for sharing. I hope to haul fuel too. But I’ll start wherever. Retired Army too. Ready to work!
