I just had my 2008 Patriot North, 4x2, five spd manual clutch replaced. It has 140,000mi on it. Mechanic told me the bottom of the old clutch was full of oil. (There was no fluid in either of the Master cylinder reservoir or slave. The shifter just wouldn't go into gear.) It seems pretty good except that it doesn't like to down shift from fourth to third sometimes. Have to wait a moment slow down more then the shift engages. Sometimes the transmission kicks the shifter back into neutral.. Maybe I'm not shifting properly. Thanks this work through video is amazing.
Thankful I live down here in the West Texas plains area. I recently did timing chains on an 04 Explorer Sport Trac 4.0 that came from upstate New York. Lots of rust, made me appreciate working on vehicles down here.
On the long PTU (Power transfer unit) bolt, I have a similar problem. The bolt is partially frozen in place. Strangely, I can turn it out about 1/4" and back in but any further, I risk stripping the bolt head. It's one in the morning here and I just ran out to the garage to clean the rear bolt hole and douse it in penetrating oil. Hopefully by the time I get to work on it in the morning, it'll work its magic. Otherwise, I'll have to remove the transmission with the transfer case attached then cut the bolt head off to take it apart. Sigh.
Galled thread. Sometimes you can loosen, and tighten it a million times, and every time you loosen it, it turns out a little more. If you get it out, there will be a chunk of metal stuck to the thread.
The other problem I had was with the half shaft threaded end. One thread was so rusty, 1/2 the thread was gone. Otherwise there was nothing wrong with it. Why didn't they put covers on the axle ends?
Well your buddy got a new vehicle cause this compass has issues. Got it my shop now lol. Took side cover off tranny and metal for days. So I'm removing transmission. 🙂
Great video! 1 quick question does the r/s shaft have to come out it looks like the tranny would pull away from the transfer with no need to remove the r/s Shaft?
Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Fisher Alaric i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Gee, book time was a little off for that starter motor replacement, ha ha. I wonder how many cars with that would hit the crusher, without ever knowing the engine and transmission were fine.
This job. This is why I hate cars. You didn't charge enough, no matter the amount. I hope you charge time and material for stuff like this. BTW--nice clear camera work. Good job!
@@RustBeltAuto transfer case locked front axels, had to get towed off highway. already looking at another vehicle, checked trans prices and they want 1,300.00 for used tranny 5 spd... cheers!!!!
4:43-4:59 Some of the greatest acting I ever seen. Really suspenseful. Chilling. A+
I wasn't acting.
How in the world to you remember how all that stuff goes back together.?!? Great work sir. 👍🏼
Mechanics just do that.

I don't have an answer for that
Good video, i learned a few things. It does not hurt to put red loctite on thread repair inserts.

Thanks for zipping those transfer case bolts in with a million ft lbs of torque😂 was a pain in the ass to get out
No problem. That thing couldn't leave my garage fast enough.
Well, this made me not buy one... I was so close ... thank you!
As long as it doesn't sound like a popcorn popper, you might be okay.

Having an old man call me up and say his car sounded like a popcorn popper, and then just died... Priceless.
Wtf are you talking about "clutch's I am looking for information on adding fluid to hydrol clutch!
Look at your owners manual.
