Priestess: *traumatized after realizing that she figured out how to turn a non-damaging blessing meant for protecting life into an instakill spell*

Here comes the third PTSD experience
I read GS's part in his abridged voice.

Once again I must express how much I CANNOT wait for the abridged series to come back!
In case anyone is wondering, she's crying because as a priestess, she broke her vow in using her holy magic to inflict harm by turning the goblin shamans' blood into water, killing it.
But what about the the time she used the shields to crush the Goblin King to death? Shouldn't she have cried then?
That has more to due with how the miracle was used more than the fact she killed something. Purify being used to literally turn a goblin's blood into water like a mad-man isn't really how the Earth Mother wants that spell to be used.
@@carlosgarza400that was prior to her making the vow which happened after the first time she killed a goblin by purifying its blood to water in the goblin crown movie.
But the Shaman didn't die. He got right back up after the spell ran out. She probably made him agonize a lot however.
@@carlosgarza400 I think there is definitely something to do with purify's misuse there.

Goblin Slayer: You saved your friends. Killed that disgusting Goblin. None of em are worth your tears. Not a single one.
I think she was scared that breaking her vow could cost her powers as a priestess
Unfortunately, even if it was on Goblins, remember that Priestess' miracles are all *granted* to her by the Earth Mother, a decidedly pacifistic and merciful goddess, who just had one of her miracles used in a way that amounts to a very painful, very torturous death. Priestess got away with only a warning in that moment because she was in a desperate situation, but imagine having your god, the being you have spent most of your life devoted to... *directly* making it clear just how upset she is? She very nearly lost the support of her goddess for using her miracle like that.

By the way, FURINA IS MINE, MINE AND MINE ALONE!!!!
Damm major useful
now you are thinking like GS
My theory is that the Earth Mother, while understanding of the situation, was more inclined to settle with only a warning knowing that Goblin Slayer might start seeing her as a Goblin if she were to punish the Priestess too harshly.
That, or she hates goblins too, and it was just a slap on the wrist because she made the least wrong choice when no option was right.
You either protect the earth or become one with, dat aint harm thats ressource transformation from parasite to beneficial, she did good
You're half-right. Priestess indeed got a warning but she can Never use that Miracle that way again. Because that's against Earth Mother's principles. Earth Mama knows That Goblin Slayer is her Devout's Friend.
@@MercyxStarlight This is also the approach I've seen many D&D Dungeon Masters take to players using spells 'creatively'; "Okay fine, but just that once, unless you want all the enemies to be able to do it to you right back."
If only they adapted the part where the Earth Mother angrily warns her to not the same thing again. That is what broke her down.
Yeah, this scene definetly felt like it was missing an important part.
To add context....in the light novel right after tmaking the spell the goddess herself whispers her to not do it again. She commited such a blasphemy that the godess reprehended her.
Why did the goddess allow the spell to be cast then?
@@jollmicelis8253"Ill allow it,But just this once"
@@jollmicelis8253free will, normally priestess would have lost all her miracles but the goddess let it slide, thats why they make a vow.
@@jollmicelis8253 For once in her existence, the Goddess was impressed instead of mad?
Earth Mother: "That was not very merciful though."
But yeah, apparently using her miracles like this is seems to be forbidden and if she keeps doing that she's going to fall out of favor with her goddess.
the warning was quite explicit in the novel "One time only, another more, no more miracles"
Priestess: "What have I done?"😭
Goblin Slayer: "You did good kid. You did good."😁
The reason she looked at the sky and cried is because The Earth Mother warned her never to use Purify to harm again, despite allowing the miracle this one time.
Yeah, I get it why she would have a breakdown and get a scolding, but she used it on goblins, for crying out loud!
Every tactic should be legal if used against these creatures!
I recall hearing about this scene years back. Apparently she gets scolded by her god about misusing that power and if she ever did it again she would lose it.
She was so adorable when she realized she made something wrong but got better when Goblin Slayer praised her.
It’s not about who she used it on. It’s about whether or not she might use it again. The Earth Mother knows better than anyone else that what Priestess did here was panicked floundering in a desperate situation. Which is why she was forgiven, but EM needed to drive home the fact that this is not an option for use in any other circumstance. It amounts to torture, and that’s something that EM is vehemently against. They’re not goblins. Just because the goblins deserve this, doesn’t mean it’s ok to stoop to their level.
@coltonwilliams4153 If she didn't do something, her friends would be dead!
@@zemox2534 And that why the EM gave her a warning, basically, a one time pass, and is what worries priestess, remember, she has devoted her whole life into her and her teachings, the fact she even had 3 uses and 2 miracles at the start of her adventure shows how favored she was by the EM, by comparison, the Law God cleric who is with the rookie warrior, only has 1 miracle with 1 daily use, and the EM, the very same existence went to the lenght to directly tell her "This is a one time exception, one more time, and your connection with me will be cut off" and couple it with her self esteem, she would see herself as losing what made her a really valuable asset (despite being pretty smart and getting tos how that as it goes after this arc)
Priestess: Oh heavenly Earth-mother, please purify us!

The novel description makes it soooo painful to imagine, imagine, everything that circulates in your blood, the plasma, the cells, turned into water and cutting off all functions, an incredibly slow and painful death worse than suffocation, the Earth mother was angry enough she even directly warned Priestess to never repeat this same stunt again
@@HaxeRain For a good reason. For all the stuff she has done with her spells, this is by far the worst one. For a goddess who protects and heals this would be absolute sacrilege.
Purify has got to be the most broken spell ever if used nefariously. She could literally "cleanse" the world of people if it meant making the earth clean
Any type of telekenesis is the most broken if you think about it. The user simply needs to use it on a quantum scale and all types of hilarity ensures.
That’s exactly why she went into shock, she discovered bloodlust.
Priestess: *turns blood to water, killing target.*
Earth Mother: *revokes blessings*
Goblin Slayer: "I'm about to bless you so hard 👍🎲"
I feel so bad for the Priestess she has seen so much blood, death, violence and now has broken her vow but it was nice seeing Goblin Slayer comforting her in his own way
Ok... *WHAT* is there a limit to this power? Because no matter how you look at it this power is beyond OP in any universe.
The limit is that the Earth Mother, the Goddess who gave Priestess access to this spell and all the others at her disposal, will take your magic away if you attempt to use her blessings in this way. In the books, Priestess is explicitly warned by the Earth Mother herself that if she ever does something like this again, she will lose her magic.
it is literally the power of god, and god probably knows that it can be horribly abused, and is pretty strict about allowing people to use it.
she literally uses protect to splat a high-tier boss but it doesn't have any consequences, so there is definitely something to do with purify's misuse there.
It’s the power of a god, of course it’s op. The miracle itself is Cleansing. It’s supposed to be used to purify water and clean people up, refreshing them in the process. Priestess used it to turn the shaman’s blood into water, specifically the blood still in its body, which is spectacularly painful and fatal. Both of which are reasons why Earth Mother, a goddess specifically focused on healing, protection, and sustenance is very much not happy about the miracle being used this way. Although, she only gave Priestess a scolding for it, because she understands the situation.
@@coltonwilliams4153 oh ok, i understand that "miracles" are powers given to her by a god. But what your saying is that the miracles are tools and misappropriation will result in losing them.
So all those times she felt guilty about misusing her abilities wasn't because she was a pacifist, but because she feared her goddess wrath?
When it comes to horrifying ways to die that's been animated, I think this one rivals airbending the air out of someone's lungs...
Man, that scene was dark as hell for Avatar standards, but I loved every second of it. This was cool too
Reminds me of one of my favorite comics, planetary. The protagonist has the ability of temperature extraction, and one thing he does is feeeze the water in the brain instantly killing an opponent.
They adapted this from the light novel quite well in my opinion.
Oh it's going to get worse than that for Priestess... if I recall correctly her patron goddess is going to chew her out for purifying blood to water even in a life or death situation. Kind of like a "whoops, I didn't make that a rule, but I'm making it now and you better obey"
Let's see... if your blood suddenly turned to the water, then you pretty much die from instant anemia and since water has a lower pH then plasma you pretty much suffer from metabolic acidosis. On top of that all your cells in your body would suddenly bloat and explode from all the intake of pure water due to the lower solute concentration.
Well done. And the physiology cookie goes to...
Goblin Slayer: "Woah, that was gnarly even beyond my imagination."
Looks like the DM got mad at the player
This is one of those “oopsies” that sometimes happens with priests and paladins. Mistakes happen and their gods aren’t always happy about their actions.
This is the most cruelest ways to use this miracle. All the other times you can explain, why it was to protect someone, but even the Earth Mother sees the goblins as a living creature. To use Purify to cleans the filth out of the blood out of a living creature is the most heretical thing, Priestress could do.6
that scene was so epic in the LN, and quite different as well.
Been waiting to see this glorious scene. Best part is the Earth Mother flipping out because it breaks the Game System.

How is that even possible turning blood into water sounds creepy.
She purified the blood, thus leaving only water.
It seems that Purify is a clensing spell, so she just need to use it on something that can be interpret as unclean to clean it. In two episodes ago she did that to the broken boats blocking the river, and now, using the same logic she clean the water of the goblin's blood from the "impurities" that are the other elements that are part of blood.
If Jesus can turn water into wine, why not the other way around?
The human body is 75% water already.
Technically, if you boil it down enough, blood is just water with other stuff in it. She removed the other stuff.
Epic Priestess moment, Goblin Slayer II never disappoints! 👏🔥
Goblin Slayer has been an excellent influence on Priestess.
Closest thing in this anime to when your DM lets you cast Create Water in someone's lungs.
Priestess has a lot more devotion than me. If my patron admonished me for using my powers in desperation to save my friends, to heck with em. "If saving my friends is a sin, then I'll gladly become a sinner."
1:40 I have no doubt that this was where the Earth Mother was scolding her, since Priestess looked up to the sky before she broke down.

I heard that the wine that comes from that is usually just glorified vinegar unless the caster specializes in that specific miracle.
Apparently that Goblin doesn't like water.
If pure water were injected into your veins, your blood cells would burst and you would die, this can happen to anyone
"If the gods thought it was wrong they wouldn't have granted this instakill against any bleeding opponent miracle"
The god involved did think it was wrong; she flat-out told Priestess that if she ever pulled a stunt like that again, she would take away her access to miracles altogether.
GS was right.

Priestess.....I understand. There are times we have to bend the rules of killing. Let me remind you those monsters has slaughtered, murdered, and killed your friends without mercy.
It wasn't that she killed. It was more that the Earth Mother really, really didn't like her using that miracle in that way.
the DM must have been drunk at this point and said yes as a joke, then revoked it later since we see the effect reversing after they jumped.
I like to think the Goddess was about to smite her for the blasphemy, but GS' chess piece turned to look at her on the Gods' chess table as if daring her to make him broaden his definition of a Goblin
This is so awesome
I can totally picture the DM if this was a tabletop game: "Okay, you can do that this one time, because it's cool. But do that again and you're banned from my table for life."
It sounds like Goblin shaman is saying “ Let it rip!”
WHAT THE HELL she can do that I've never seen that in ANY media

Unorthodox spellcasting, my favourite ^__^
As many have put it, this was only allowed once. But I can only go in the defense of Priestess and crew, but she made the absolute right call. And I agree with those that have stated it, I agree that it was allowed once due to dire circumstances.
Even if Earth Mother doesn't like Goblins, this kind of thing can only be done once for so, so many reasons.
I don't understand why she broke down. I mean, all she did was turn the goblins blood into water right? So the goblin drowned or was killed by shock? I don't know, this isn't the first time one of her miracles killed a goblin. It's like she was reset to episode 1

Wait did she turn that goblins own blood into water
Wait why she's crying for exactly?
I was wondering the same thing. But I guess because she took a life, albeit it was unintentional & it was a goblin. I guess that as a priestess she can’t take life herself.
Here's a copypasta explaining why she was horrified:
"I don't remember the LNs giving a specific reason, but there are a lot of clues given during this battle that indicates the Earth Mother's miracles aren't supposed to be used to cause direct physical harm to living beings (goblins included).
Judging by how the Priestess perceived the effect of her spell on the goblin shaman (as something horrific in the LN), and combining that with the fact that all of the Priestess's spells are limited to heal, defend (Protection), distract (Holy Light), or purify, the only conclusion I came to as a reader was that direct harm was somehow forbidden for Earth Mother miracles.
Another supporting evidence is that "miracles" in the LN are called upon by praying and directly connecting one's soul to the deity. The deity then grants the prayer, but it always takes a temporary toll on the priest's soul, causing some sort of spiritual exhaustion and limiting the number of miracles a priest can use per day.
"Spells," on the other hand, use words of power to bend the laws of nature. It also takes its own toll but it's different from the spiritual toll experienced by priests.
All these hints from the LN indicate that the Priestess instinctively knew that she'd done something wrong by purifying the goblin's blood. And she was super worried that the Earth Mother would reject her prayers for miracles after this incident."
She used purify, a utility spell designed to remove impurities from water, and used it to change the goblin shaman's blood into water. I think she only intended the blood on the floor to be purified, as the shaman was using that to fuel his spells, but she accidentally changed ALL of it to water, instantly killing the goblin.
Por su "moral" como sacerdotiza, las bendiciones son para sanar no para matar.
Bc she used the "purify" Magic, a spell made to help those who need it removing any impurities from the body or a substance, to purify the blood of a goblin causing it a horrible death, and thus going against the will of the Earth Mother and later the EM threatened to take back all the magic she gave to the priest
Sheesh! Goblins in this world are so filthy and unholy that even purifying magic can harm them!
Well, makes sense since in Final Fantasy, healing magic damages undead monsters.
She doesn’t get to do this again. The dice roll requirements is too high and her head may explode.

But... Wasn't her intention to heal her party of the poison, instead of killing it? I'm confuse.
No. That's why the camera focused on the bleeding goblin, and then showed you the bleeding goblin's blood, right before she said "impure". To make sure there was no doubt what she was thinking. And then afterward followed it up with "what have I done?".
Seems like The Earth Goddess a fickle being, i mean shes fine having skeletal/wood/etc purified in the last episode but when priestess used it on blood shes gets a warning.
Priestess Girl used a miracle meant to be used fo support to directly harm another living being, with the goblin dying an agonizing death due to what its blood becoming water entails. If she had a Smite miracle or something there wouldn't be a problem, but she used something meant to preserve life to gruesomely end it.

Sometimes you have to play dirty to win the war. 🎉
What do you mean the Priestess won the war cleanly. It was brutal way to die but that had to be the cleanest way a goblin has ever died outside drowning.

Lol
actually happened before & almost everyone died
I understood that she's "scolded" by the Earth Mother for using the spell improperly, but hasn't she done the same in season 1 using the light barriers to crush the goblin to save GS?
I'll explain: The purpose of each miracle can't go beyond their intended use.
Using the barriers on the enemy is still within their intended use without directly harming them. The barriers pinned the goblin, but GS killed the goblin himself, not Priestess.
Purify, on the other hand, is a benign miracle and is not intended to be used as a weapon. Because the miracle was the only agent that killed this goblin, the blame falls on Priestess because it's considered abuse, but because it was accidental the Earth Mother let her off with a warning.
